Birth control pill question

Has anyone here ever not taken the placebo pills and started a new pack so they wouldn't have a "period" that month? I really don't want to deal with that while on my trip in September.

I have my yearly physical in 2 weeks and I will ask then if it is ok.

I take 3-4 packs in a row without a break, year-round. My doctor knows and is fine with it - and so is the FDA: it's the exact same principle as the recently-made-available Seasonale pill.

I take them for 12 weeks straight for my endometriosis. They do have a new pill called Seasonal for just that reason, so you don't have to deal with it every month.

DW is an OB/GYN and does this herself from time to time. If your doc has determined that the bc pill you are on is safe for you, then doing this should also be safe.

I can't because it causes a lot of bad cramps the following month. But I have at least two friends who have done this with no problem and my doctor has told me as long as you personally don't expereince anything weird, it's not dangerous.

I do that sometimes. Just be careful though, b/c I will not have my period the scheduled week, but will have some bleeding the week after. (Sorry, I'm trying not to get into TMI, but just wanted to warn you!)

Why do we have to fool w/ this stuff???

I do it sometimes but I just take one weeks worth of extra pills to delay for one week.

I just did that for a recent vacation, my Dr. was the one who suggested I do it. My friend is an obgyn though and she says you can have breakthrough bleeding with some pills. She was surprised I didn't have any bleeding with Ortho Tricyclin but I was fine.

Hmmm. Sounds like a plan then. Of course, I still will ask when I go for my physical. Even if I had a little breakthrough bleeding it would still be better than getting my "period".

Thanks!

I have done this before with no problem.

I suggested it to a friend of mine so she would be safe for her honeymoon. She had a really tough time, cramps and bleeding for the whole week - just not as heavy as usual.

I used to take a tri-cyclic pill and tried it for my honeymoon, it didn't work. Just delayed my period for a few days. Big Bummer!

Hope it works for you!

Good point - mine are monophasic (same level of hormones every day).

princess pooh, what is the deal w/ Ortho Tricyclin? That's the brand I take, that must be why I still have some bleeding.

Did the cost of your prescription go up? Mine did and the insurance said it was b/c of the manufacture.

I have a friend who stops her pills early and gets her period early before going on the trip if its scheduled to be during her trip. Just be careful of the birth control aspect.

I know that they were encouraging some female soldiers to do this that were deployed. My dr told me it was ok to do this 2 months in a row so I could throw my cycle so it would not appear in the middle of vacation.

Could it be because all the generic's are out for tri cyclen? Many ins companies will charge the higher copays for brand now that so many generics are out. The other problem is if you skip that week of off pills you may be to early for the next refill and you'll pay full price. One way around that is to ask the dr (if they say it's okay in the 1st place) if they have a sample pack .

I have been taking the seasonal pills for almost three months now...and I think....OK I HOPE...that the break through bleeding is almost over. It takes a while for your body to adjust to the change, but its been nice not having a period for the last couple of months. I pay 75.00 and that covers the three months of pills. So its only a little bit more than I would pay otherwise for my regular BC pills.

Welovedisneyx4, I'll have to ask my friend why tricyclin is associated with breakthrough bleeding. She was surprised that I skipped my period without any problems.

I'm not sure if the price has gone up because I've been living off of samples for the past six months. I have to pick up my new perscription today and I'm glad I'll know what to expect.

I take TriNessa (generic for ortho tricyclin) and I tried not taking the placebos. I had about two days of breakthrough bleeding but it allowed me to push my period up a week so I was not on it during vacation.

On my old insurance I could only get the pill covered (sorta) if I used a mail order company. I paid a $50 copay for three months supply. My new insurance allows me to purchase three months worth from a pharmacy for $10 (for generic)!! Or I can still use mail order for the same price. I'm likin this new insurance ::yes::

I want to adjust my period to be later by one week in for a trip October. Any suggestions of how to do this?

I'm assuming I don't just *skip* a week on the pills, right? I need a second pack to adjust things properly?
