Birth control pill question

Yes, just skip the week of sugar pills, and start taking the next pack when the first one is finished. I've done this several times for vacations and special events and never had a problem...

I agree, why DO we have to deal with this stuff? Just doesn't seem fair....

I always do this for vacations, I couldn't cope with haveing to worry about that and everything else! I must say that I haven't experienced anything nasty either.

Hope you have a great holiday.

I did this for a trip last year and it was fine. I think I felt more bloated than usual though.

I am getting Married in October and wouldn't you know it, it's that week. We are going to be on a cruise that week.. yuck. I am taking the patch and my ob/gyn gave me a sample to use that week and push the period back. I am not worried about it, anything will be better than getting it anyway. Usually I get it between Tuesday adn Thursday so at least if I can miss it Monday and Tuesday I'll be happy. I am concerned about being bloated because there isn't much room left in my wedding dress regardless!!!!

What's this about pushing it up a week? How does that work? Take the patch off and not put one on that third week and then start a new on the next week??? I kind like that idea too...

It depends on the pill. The triphasics you can't just skip the placebos. In fact, I think you have to keep taking the third week from a new pack to push your period to whatever week. Definitely call a doc to find out exactly what you need to do.

I'm on ortho tri-cyclen and thought I could skip my period and I not only got my period, but had it for four more weeks! Was NOT fun and really got in the way of my beach vacation!

I do that sometimes. Just be careful though, b/c I will not have my period the scheduled week, but will have some bleeding the week after. (Sorry, I'm trying not to get into TMI, but just wanted to warn you!)

Why do we have to fool w/ this stuff???

Maybe too much info, but this same thing happens to me. I have done if for our last two trips, and the week I'm supposed to have my period is great, but I have heavy spotting for the two weeks after that. Which is almost worse to me. I usually do it a month or two in advance of my trip, just to change my schedule if that makes sense.

Thanks all. :)

Okay, so I have a package with 4 weeks of pills. This is the way y'all are suggesting I ask my doctor about trying, right?

Pack 1: week 1
Pack 1: week 2
Pack 1: week 3
Pack 2: week 1
Pack 2: week 2
Pack 2: week 3
Pack 2: week 4

Right?

As opposed to:

Week 1: pack 1
Week 2: pack 1
Week 3: pack 1
Week 4: skip anything
Week 5: pack 2
Week 6: pack 2
Week 7: pack 2
Week 8: pack 2

Right?

I think what your saying is correct. When it's time for your 4th week of placebo pills, just chuck that pack, and start with week 1 of the next pack.

Yes! :)
I do this whenever my cycle is inconvenient.
So, you'll have 6 weeks of freedom, then your cycle the seventh week. :)

If it matters, I'm on monophasic pills (Loestrin) not tri-phasic.

Has anyone here ever not taken the placebo pills and started a new pack so they wouldn't have a "period" that month? I really don't want to deal with that while on my trip in September.

I have my yearly physical in 2 weeks and I will ask then if it is ok.

My DW takes the pill for three or four packs continuously and then makes a break for a week. It was a recommendation by her obstetrician. But it doesn't work with every pill, you have to check wit your doc.

I was on Yasmin (no idea what "kind" that is) and skipped the placebos the month before my wedding, so I wouldn't have Aunt Flo on my honeymoon. BIG MISTAKE. I bleed every day through May up to the day before my wedding - an entire cycle. I have no idea why it happened (stress from the wedding, maybe?) but it did!

So, I would ask your ob/gyn first!
