birth certificate?

Our TA emailed me today that we need to bring DD 6's birth certificate. Has any one else done this yet?

With all the new rules of what can and can not be taken on board, dh is so we are sending a package ahead of time.. It would be so nice not to have any baggage.. ahh yes dreaming aren't I?

Something we did was to go to our local Drivers License Bureau and had them issue a NON-Drivers License ID for our children. It looks just like a drivers license with all the info about your child. (birthdate, weight, height, address). In our state it's good for three years. They then take a picture of your child. We didn't want to carry around birthcertificates, etc... so we opted to do this just incase we were asked at the airport. To get one of these, they did need to see the child's birthcertificate and SS card.
We flew to Seattle in July and the airline did look at the ID's.
We are going to Disney in October and we will have them for that trip.

Why do you need the birth certificate? You do not need ID for a child to fly and they are well above the free age at Disney so I have no idea what you need it for. I never took my kids birth cert except for when they were lap babies under 2. I wouldn't unlesss you plan on going out of the country and EPCOT doesn't count.

We also needed to bring the birth certificates for our kids!I figure if your are told to bring them then there must be a reason ( you don't need the original just a copy)it's better to to be safe then sorry after all how much space can a piece of paper take up!

It can't hurt to bring it. I'm bring my son's birth certificate since I'm taking his asthma meds in my carry-on and I figure I'll need proof of identity for him since it's his name on the meds.

I was just advised by the TSA at our local airport ( TYS ) to have a state id for my dd 3. I called with questions about her RX meds ( gel form ). They told me they are treating the children the same as adults with RX meds. The script has to match the name on a Gov picture id. So, I called my local DMV and here is what they need to make a State ID.

My DL
A bill that is no older than two months with my name on it.

It costs 5 bucks and is valid for 2 years.

This is for the state of TN, but I am sure each state is similar in guidelines.

So, if your child has RX's they can not take them on the plane without ID. A orig BC wont work. HTH

I like the idea of having a State ID for my Tot. With the restriction and who knows what next, it will just help us get on the flight quicker rather than having to worry.

I guess we will go down on Friday and get an ID.

We just came back from WDW last week. My son has meds (Liquid) that we had to take on the plane. They just checked to make sure the name on the meds matched the name on the ticket. They didn't ask for any other ID.

I'm sure that would have been announced.

We flew in July and no id was needed for my girls on a domestic flight.

ETA: Worse case scenario we have our passports and those are sufficient identification.

It doesn't say anything about a picture id for children's meds...on the TSA website:

However, prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket; up to 5 oz. of liquid or gel low blood sugar treatment, including juice and up to 4 oz. of non-prescription liquid medications are permitted.

I was just letting people know what I was told by the TSA at my local airport. Some people are by the book and some let things slide. I am not taking any chances. The DMV in TN can also do the fingerprinting with the State ID ( or at least the one where I live can ). So, for 5 dollars, I think it is a great thing to have. I also wont have to worry when I get to the airport.

BTW, I also asked the TSA manager at my local airport why this was not announced or on the website. He told me that they have the right to do this without the announcement. I told him that their would be a lot of upset parents if this was not made public. He said that "if a parent took the time to call the airport they would not have this problem". He was kinda rude.? So, maybe everyone needs to call TSA at their local airport to see what THEY require.
