I just received my DCL Official Guide today. I was very disappointed. It was basically like reading the DCL brochure. I just thought I'd post this in case anyone else was considering buying it. I haven't even been on my first cruise yet and I already felt like I knew everything in the book just based on my DCL information kit. Save your money and just order the free DVD from Disney.

yeah, i was shocked at how little it was. but my hubby who isnt
a reader will enjoy looking at it.

I also ordered the passporter cruise guide, now it is awesome!:teeth:

Where do you get the Passport Cruise Guide?

I purchased a Passporter and the Birnbaum book at overstock.com for a great price (thanks to a recommendation on this board--they did take some time to arrive though--maybe a glitch or something on my order). The Passporter is wonderful, could have skipped the Birmbaum book, but it did have a couple tidbits of info that wasn't in the Passporter book.

HTH

I got it too and like you, was very disappointed. We are doing the Magic out of CA and there was 1 page about how the ship is going there. Nothing else at all. Considering the book is a 2005 edition I expected a little more. A good part of the book is all about the Caribbean ports. :(

The Passporter cruise guide is wonderful. I purchased it at a local book store chain. There is a first and second edition.

Also check eBAY...I just saw a Passporter Cruise guide going for $2! I paid approx. $20 for mine at a bookstore when it came out last summer.

We stopped buying the Birnbaum guides years ago, just for that reason.

They are actually produced by Disney now, so don't expect anything special out of them anymore.

The Passporters are everything the Birnbaum guides used to be and a good deal more.

I bought the guide yesterday. If it been for me, there's no way I would have paid $13 for what seems to be a brochure about the cruise with very little detailed information. However, I have cruised with Disney before, and I have read informaiton here. For people who don't look things up on the internet (yes, there still are some!), it's probably nice. Maybe not worth $13 (really, for that, I expect more pages than that!).

The copy I bought is going into a "goody bag" of little gifts that I'm giving to my sister on Monday, her actual birthday. The cruise is her birthday gift, so I thought that the book was a good purchase for someone who has never been on a Disney cruise and has no idea what to expect.

Just wanted to add that I agree with all of you. But with boards like this, it's going to be hard for any book to compete (even the Passporter).

My husband won't look at these boards and has never cruised before so he likes looking at the pictures and getting "tidbits" of info.

I think I will be able to use some of it for scrapbooking. Can't say I'd recommend it but I'm a junkie -- willing to read anything about Disney at least once!
