Quick ? I love my Birkenstocks and would love to wear them at WDW...do you think I'll be alright or should I wear sneakers instead?

Take the Birkenstocks!!!....Here's my quick story. I had just purchased my first pair of Birkies and took them (brand new, never worn except to try on) to DW. I slipped them on to run down to Mara for breakfast stuff to eat in our room. Jump ahead to right outside MGM, and I happened to look down and notice I'd forgotten to change into my sneakers. My DH said I'd better run back and change them, but I didn't want to take the time. Well, that was the first Disney visit that I left the park with happy and comfortable feet!!! I never were anything to DW except my Birkies!!! The only bad part about them is that most are not waterproof and we alway get rained on down there, so I slip my "rained on" pair in my backpack and if it starts raining I switch pairs. I know many others on the board like other brands, but they work so well for me!!! :goodvibes

I guess it depends on how much walking you plan on doing......I wore mine when we spent the day at Universal and my feet were killing me.....I wore my tennis shoes at Disney....and my feet were fine...

If you are taking a backpack, then I would suggest taking your tennis shoes in the backpack....that way if your feet start to hurt, you have your tennis shoes!

During warm months, I wear pretty much nothing but Birkenstocks and I always wear them in WDW! My feet hurt at the end of the trip sometimes just from walking way too much, but I think it would be much worse without my beloved Birkies. The rain can be a problem, but I find they dry out fine enough to be worn again the next day. This trip is the first that I won't be wearing them due to the colder tempuratures and I am already dreading what my poor feet will go through!
If you are not sure how your feet will react, pack a pair of sneakers in your luggage just in case. I am sure it will be fine though.

I was fine in mine. They have been rained on, snowed on and been dropped into a lake and surrived so they did me just fine at WDW. I do try to switch up my shoes while Im there. Im not taking mine this time just because they are getting a bit aged and I think my crocs and my sketchers will do me fine.

Happy Feet!

I wore my Birkies for most of my last trip and I loved them! My feet were too sweaty in the socks & tennis shoes. Of course, I pretty much live in my Birkenstocks as soon as the weather gets over 70 degrees.

I did bring my tennies on the first couple days and stowed them in a locker, and days when rain was in the forcast I brought an extra pair of socks and shoes.

One thing that helped me was to use Body Glide on my feet to prevent blisters. I have very flat feet and tend to get blisters right along the edge of my foot where an arch should be.

wear the birks, and have a back up pair of shoes in case of rain :)

Let me put it this way: For years I wore reeboks to wdw and always had blisters by the 4th day. Since I started wearing my birks, I haven't had a blister, not one !.

I have tried several Birks styles in WDW. My suggestion is to choose a pair that are broken in and that have more straps. I wore my thong style ones that I was super comfortable in and they ended up hurting my feet. When I wear my broken in 3 strap Birks I was fine all day.

I also alternate them with my tennis shoes and Columbia thong style sandals.

I wore mine a couple of times on our October trip and I was very pleased. I don't know the name of the style I have, but they have 2 straps across the top and no strap in the back. (The back of my heel is what tends to blister.)

I wore them when I knew we would be going back to the room mid-day in case I wanted to change, but they were fine. My Birkenstocks are not able to get wet, so I just kept that in mind. I was glad I brought them!

I am waiting for Birkies to make a more stylish pair and ones that do not have to take weeks to break in. I'm too busy and experienced to allow a pair of shoes to break me in.

I have taken my Birks on each trip - they are great at the water parks too or on wet rides (I always end up getting soaked on Kali River Rapids). They are the only shoe that I wear for my entire 7 day stay. My only advice - be careful wearing them on Soarin as they may slip off and hit someone else in the head (nearly happened to me). My son (age 8) is also a convert - he is smart and wears the ones with straps on the back to avoid the dangers of slip off.

:)

I wore my birks for the whole trip this last time and it was great. There was one day that I wore another pair of sandals and my feet were killing me afterward.

If you are looking for more stylish Birks, check out QVC.com. They have the most I've seen and I get all my Birks from them (don't ask how many pairs I have ) They are practically all I wear in the spring, summer and early fall. I am one of the lucky ones that don't need break in time. I can just put them on and go. As for the parks, I try to take 2 pairs and trade off. I do also take a pair of Rykas. I like to give my shoes a day or so off to dry out from foot moisture and just in case it rains. Wet shoes equal blisters.

I get all my Birkies at QVC, too. So many styles to choose from... :goodvibes You can go to QVC.com and see all the styles. Just search for Birkenstock sandals...

I'm a big believer in alternating footwear. I think different ones work different muscle groups and afect different foot spots.

I looked at QVC and I need to buy another pair. What other styles do you have Kim? I have the plain two strap ones. I thought that the Thong ones were cute but are they as comfortable. Those mary jane clogs are pretty cute too. I have a foot injury and they are the only sandels that I can wear. If you could give me any tips on what styles are the most comfortable I would appreciate it. I know that sometimes thong sandels are hard to keep on.
TIA

My most comfy Birks are a pair that have two straps that cross in the front, another strap higher up and an open back. I have three of these !

I love my Birks, but how do ya'll keep them from killing the tops of your feet and shins? It's not from the straps, it's muscle aches on top of both feet extending almost up to the knees. I wear mine all the time in the summer, but not for large-scale walking--too tiring.
