Birds at Flame Tree BBQ

My son and I ate down by the water at Flame Tree in early June and the birds were extremely aggressive that day. We were constantly shooing them away and when I got up to get more napkins and had my son watch my food, just like samsteele's experience - a large white bird jumped up on the table to try to get to my ribs. And my son was sitting right there shooing it. :crazy2:

They are a problem at Flame Tree. We last ate there in June and had to fight them.
They are a problem at all other outdoor restaurants we've been to at Disney too

Worse we ever saw was at Epcot, by the water near UK, by Yorkshire Fish place. Lady was starting to eat her fish and right as she brought it to her mouth a bird flew up and took it right out of her hand while the food was half way in her mouth

That happened to my mom when she was there with my sister - as she was walking to the table with her tray of fish, a bird came right down and snatched it. Luckily the CMs were very understanding and gave her a new order of fish "without essence of bird".

In terms of Flame Tree, I've always noticed the birds around but never really had a problem with them trying to get the food. I always try to sit in the covered section right next to the water/lake (best view of Everest) so perhaps they don't like to go there as much?

We were there last September and I felt like the birds were the worst I have seen them there. My kiddo even said he felt like they were stalking us. lol.

I've never had much of a problem at Flame Tree BBQ, but at Yak and Yeti CS-I won't eat there anymore because of the birds. One time I got up from my table to throw something in a nearby garbage can. In those few seconds, a bird swooped down, landed on my crispy chicken, took one, and flew away. I'm not normally a germaphobe, but I just couldn't finish it, thinking of those bird feet on my chicken.

A couple years ago, I was getting ready to eat at Flame Tree. Just as I set my tray on the table, a bird with a long beak (an ibis, I think) swooped in with me right there, stabbed my half chicken, and flew away with it! People were pointing and saying, "Did you see that??" It actually looked hilarious to see the bird fly away with a half chicken on his beak. I went and found a worker, told her what happened, and she graciously got me a new meal.

Worst I have seen was at Epcot. Lady was sitting on the benches near Refreshment Port in the World Showcase, holding a hot dog. Bird swooped down and took the hot dog right out of the bun.

If reincarnation is a thing, I wouldn't mind being reincarnated as a bird at Disney World. I'll just loiter around Epcot and steal cannoli out of people's hands.
DH and I say the same thing! We both want to come back as ducks at Epcot, though AK would be a good choice as a duck too.
We have a family contest, the first to spot "duck butt" on each trip. Don't get anything, just gets to be the first to say "duck butt"

That's exactly where we were sitting in May when the birds were around. There was a duck and one of those big white birds roaming between tables there. And people sitting a few tables from us feeding them.

One time we were sitting in a different section and a huge Hyacinth Macaw swooped directly over our table and startled me. He didn't grab anything, or maybe he was going to and stopped short. But he was HUGE. I'm thinking he was one of the birds from the show.

The worst problem I ever had with a bird at WDW was at HS, when one flew by and snatched a potato chip out of my hand.

This happened to me in Frontierland. With a churro, which I had yet to have even a bite of.

Mean, greedy seagull!

Just reading this thread is freaking me out. Large white birds with big beaks roving through the tables? A hyacinth macaw?

OMG! This sounds like my worst nightmares. I don't care how good the ribs are. I'm staying out of there.

Wonder if something can be done for her at this early age, birds are lovely, it is a shame there are people who are afraid of them. I imagine people who are phobic had been traumatized at a young age and it stuck with them for life.

I'm pretty sure my phobia started when I was a small child being babysat by my grandma. She brought me to what is known as the "Birdie Park" in my family. It was packed with pigeons, and I was so tiny, they terrified me.

Bad news is it's not just Flame Tree. It's pretty much outdoor dining venues on property
Heck, I can't tell you how many times I've seen squirrels and birds ravaging through strollers looking for treats left unattended. They are cheeky suckers, the lot of them

We were there two weeks ago and didn't have any issues with birds. However we always have issues at Casey's at MK and La Cantina de San Angel in Epcot. But that isn't surprising since you typically see MANY people feeding the birds while they sit next to the sign that says "Please do not feed the birds." My favorite bird scenario is when you see parents laughing and smiling as they watch their children feed the birds as the sit next to the "Please do not feed the birds" sign then go crazy and start freaking out on the birds when one of them gets too close and scares one of their kids or steals food off the table. You can always see it coming.

In November we were in Epcot and a family was feeding the birds some slices of bread. I was so annoyed that I said to the father "you know that you are not supposed to feed the birds, right?" And pointed to the sign that was right in front of them. I did feel a bit bad when I realized that they didn't speak English as their first language. :P

Well, those signs do have a photo/drawing of a bird with a line through it, don't they?
Those poor birds are SOOOOOO unhealthy from all the crap people feed them.
And yeah, I realize the conundrum that DH and I want to come back as birds at Disney because they have it made yet they birds at Disney are unhealthy because they are fed crap by guests.

So true! I've seen those white birds at Fame Tree, Pecos Bill, and Min and Bills in HS. At Epcot, we've had run ins with the ducks.

Those squirrels are very bold! On our last trip we passed a mother sitting down and her baby in the stroller facing her and there was a squirrel jumping in the back basket. A couple sitting next to her saw it and pointed it out to her just as I was going over to tell her. The squirrels and birds on strollers freak me out! Who knows how many times babies put something in their mouths that they've been on?! Every time we pass a stroller parking I see them all over the strollers, eating foods, touching sippy cups left out, tearing ziplock bags with snacks open. (shudder!!!) Parents really need to put food and drinks away before leaving their stroller.

I believe it initially started with a fear of being pooped on lol. Then it just progressed from there.

Honestly, the squirrels are worse than the birds at WDW. The wildest squirrely spot is the stroller park in front of Finding Nemo at Epcot. I have watched platoons of squirrels dipping & diving through the parked strollers. Never a CM in sight. No doubt the goldfish crackers & graham crackers are gourmet dining for the squirrel set. Never leave any food or snacks in your stroller. Just don't. If you are going to set your child in that stroller, you don't want to even think about it having been tossed by multi squirrels before your baby is plopped back in there.

A few months ago, my friend and I were eating at Flame Tree BBQ and he decided to feed a duck even though I practically screamed at him not to.

Next thing we know, we're SURROUNDED by ducks and white birds looking for a handout. The first duck (which my friend named Fred) was actually pecking at my friend's pant leg looking for more fries. I was so mad at him!!

I know exactly what you mean. A trip last august was perfectly fine, they seemed to have mellowed quite a bit.
