Tonight my cockatiel had a night fright and broke a blood feather. I put some flour on it but this was not easy as she is not tamed. She was bleeding and I am very concerned for her. I plan to take her to the vet tomorrow but until then what else should I do? I'm very worried.

this happened quite a few times with our breeding female. YOU did the right thing. Put on big gloves so it wont get you and come from behind her...not in front of her face..(unless the gloves are the heavy duty ones and the beak wont go thru them.)...put the flour on the area if it is still bleeding......it always looks like alot of blood ...

Thank you so much. She is doing ok this morning. Going to call the vet soon.

My husband once did this when he was cutting our parrots wings. The vet had us apply cornstarch with a cotton ball. Another time our cockatiel broke a blood feather and we did the same with the cornstarch. This time we had to bring the bird to our vet to have the feather removed since he was concerned that she would re-injure it.

Hope your bird is OK.

I hope your poor little bird is doing better. Please let us know how the vet visit went.
