Bird Lady on 1600 Loop

Have you seen or better yet heard the bird lady on the 1600 loop Ft Wolderness??? She has a white tent full of birds. Is this even allowed?? They makes awefull noises.

She's actually very nice and I believe she is also a travel agent . 1600 is a pet loop and I haven't seen anything in writing that says the pet must be a dog or cat. I actually found the site next to her more distracting with all of their displays.

The camper with the lights and blowups beside her doesnt make noises either, however squawking birds do. Im sure she is a nice lady. I don't know her though.

She has been coming to the FT for years and did stay for extended periods of time since she is a TA. She may now be full timing there since she lost her husband (had a heart attack while at the FT) last year. She used to be on 1200 most of the time.

Birds don't make noise at night. Birds sleep at night (except owls, nightjars and such) and they don't want to give away their position since most birds can't see well at night and therefore can't fly at night to escape predators.

The wild birds make noise, too, so be sure to bring your bird guns, LOL.

Her name is Nancy and she runs Spann the World Travel. She's actually an awesome person and a TA who helped me get a site when there were none available otherwise. Folks at the fort should stop by and introduce themselves, she's a great source of information about the Fort and Disney in general.

I was surfing, looking for a TA ( travel agent) that would book something so small as a string of partial tent site days.... It seems the FW campground is just too smallbeans for most TAs I know, but I thought, as long as there's a commission, someone might as well get it- and came across a client reference to her, and found this: (link).

(well, so this is my first post and I can't yet do links- But google "RV travel is for the birds", "Better RVing" (a magazine) and Nancy's name. It's a short read from 2011 with nice pics. Maybe someone will post the link.)

Reading, this, you get to know about her a little.

I can't imagine doing it... but now I understand more, how she loves them, and why she does- maybe even more, now without her DH! And have to say, more wildlife at the fort would definitely be plussing my kids' delight there!

Readerbug, that is nice to know.

Since the DIS is a sister organization to Dreams Unlimited, a travel agency, I was a little nervous about this reference to Nancy. But as you correctly point out, the campsites at the Fort are not widely covered by knowledgeable TA's. Dreams Unlimited does a great job with WDW vacations, Disney Cruises, etc but their only Fort service quote is for the cabins. That leaves campers like us looking for help with our tents, campers, and RVs to pursue other avenues. So there is no conflict of interest with Dreams at all. That is good to know.

Whoops! I wasn't meaning to promote any particular travel agent, or Nancy. I do not know her. I was just explaining how I came across the article about her birds...the article itself does not mention disney TA-ing, I don't think. It was not meant to be a recommendation. I appologize!

I just thought it was good to put a human touch to the odd and mysterious 'bird woman' title....Feed the birds, tuppence a bag...
