So now it starts. We are in our planning stages for our first ever trip to DL as a family of four! Me, DH, and our two kids.. ages 2 and a soon to be 4.

We've been to WDW twice for halloween, which was an amazing experience.. although with two toddlers last time, sometimes hair pulling. Our family doesn't "get" why we want to go again since they don't think the kids they are old enough to remember going.

The might not remember, but they both had a great time. So did we. Last Oct my son was finally big enough to ride some of the roller coasters which he just loved.

This was his favorite

I also used to live in SoCal and have always wanted to go back there. So our trip this time will include a few days (maybe more?) in SD, then the rest in DL.

We are planning on going from oct-30 until 6th or 7th. I think we are leaning doing disney from the 30th-3rd, then taking the rest of the time for SD. We are still in the middle of debating that however.

We are also a bit stuck on what method of transportation we'll be taking to get there. If we are going to try to save and fly, or if we are just going to bite the bullet and drive from Chicago to LA with two toddlers. :scared:

I hope you all will go on this journey with me as we plan our the stages of our first ever DL trip!

ooo.. Chicago to CA with two toddlers... I'd fly. lol Plus, that way you get more time for fun and spend less time on travel.

We're only 6 hours away by car and I think we'll be flying from now on. The drive through the desert is kind of boring and I hate to put extra miles on my old car. Not to mention, it's only about an hour flight which makes it 4 hours RT instead of 12. I'll gladly pay a little extra for 8 extra park hours. lol

We want to fly in theory (husband and I hate planes). It's just a matter of expense. If we can get a deal that another poster posted about then it would be 300-350 for us to fly with my daughter on my lap. That's not too bad. 4 hours of flight vs 36 hours in the car?

If it's more than that, we might have to drive. I really don't want to drop 1k on travel when we can there for about a third of that in the car, you know? Our last drive to FL was around 22 hours.. it was rough. I am not even going to lie. I want to say that we can do 36 if we did 22.... but I start twitching just thinking about it. :scared1:

The other option is the train.. but again. That's 700 bucks for us, and 42 hours on the train, constantly chasing after our toddlers.

I feel your pain. The cheapest I can find flights for our potential October trip is 342 RT for the both of us. It's only about $120 to drive it. Then I'd want to leave the night before though which means an extra hotel night. So while it still saves money, I'm not so sure saving the $100 is worth the 12 hours in the car. Even teenagers get whiney. lol

Okay. So we are looking to book our flights on monday if we can get a good deal!

Then to book the villas hopefully *fingers crossed*

Fly in the ointment.. :(

One person I was planning to rent DVC from said that CGV were all sold out for Oct 31st. It's not clear it that was just studios, one bedrooms.. or what.

I am so disappointed. I really had my heart on staying here for halloween :(

AH man! I hope something works out for you.

Well, it looks like we are going to WDW this Oct instead and trying DL for next Oct. Maybe this time I'll be able to get ahold of someone who has that as a home resort 11 months out so we can book our trip then.

Thank you for following along with me! i'll post a link to our new pre-trip report as soon as I put it up. :goodvibes
