Good job Mr President, CIA and Men and Women serving Our Great Nation....

I TOTALLY said that to DH last night!! I wished Obama would've made his speech in a flight suit with that banner behind him. NOW the Mission is accomplished. :thumbsup2

It's great news and a great bit of mission planning and execution but does anyone seriously believe that it's mission accomplished?
I'm sure the troops from both our countries, and others, currently putting their lives at risk around the world don't believe it.
One evil man is dead, many more evil men remain.

Yes, it IS mission accomplished. They wanted to get Osama, they got him. Doesn't mean the war is over, but that particular mission IS accomplished.

Very interesting info about the raid.

The helicopters were not supposed to land, but rather hover over head while the Special Ops team was lowered into the compound. One of the choppers malfunctioned and had to touch down. The team went forward with the mission anyway and a third chopper was brought in to evac the SEALs and the body and at the last moment the US forces decided to blow up the malfunctioning chopper on their way out.

Then the Pakistani gov't, not knowing what was happening, scrambled fighter jets to go and intercept the choppers. All of this was being monitored by the US governement from the situation room. I would imagine that was the moment the call was put in to the Pakistanyi gov't.

I heard this as well. I know how brave these guys but I cannot even begin to understand that selflessness that propels people to do a job like this one. They had no idea if they would come out of this alive and they went in anyway. How do you think people for heroism like this?

Amen!

I'm hearing, info leading up to this day, began four years ago at Gitmo with interrogation methods, no longer allowed. This wasnt our first opportunity, over the last year. I hope his death, gives some peace and closure to all families, who have lost loved ones, due to Usama.

Huge win for the intelligence community and our troops. I'm sure the scum bag politicians will try to take credit for it but the people who deserve the credit are the ones who put their life on the line to get the job done.

Bravo!

Bin Laden was found at luxury Pakistan compound

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. forces finally found al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden not in a mountain cave on Afghanistan's border, but with his youngest wife in a million-dollar compound in a summer resort just over an hour's drive from Pakistan's capital, U.S. officials said....

..."The bottom line of our collection and our analysis was that we had high confidence that the compound harbored a high-value terrorist target. The experts who worked this issue for years assessed that there was a strong probability that the terrorist who was hiding there was Osama bin Laden," another administration official said.

The home is in Abbottabad, a town about 35 miles north of Islamabad, that is relatively affluent and home to many retired members of Pakistan's military...

WALLS TOPPED WITH BARBED WIRE

Intense security measures included 12- to 18-foot outer walls topped with barbed wire and internal walls that sectioned off different parts of the compound, officials said. Two security gates restricted access, and residents burned their trash, rather than leaving it for collection as did their neighbors, officials said.

Few windows of the three-story home faced the outside of the compound, and a terrace had a seven-foot (2.1 meter) privacy wall, officials said.

"It is also noteworthy that the property is valued at approximately $1 million but has no telephone or Internet service connected to it," an administration official said. "The brothers had no explainable source of wealth."...

I was crying w/ happiness this morning!

My neighbor 2 doors down from us lost the firefighter husband (left behind 3 wonderful boys and his wife), our other neighbors lost their 21yo daughter (she was working there and was actually on the phone w/ her parents while they were watching it unfold on tv, then the phone went dead when the building fell), and my sil lost her cousin (fightfighter).

This is a day of celebration!! I'd make it a freakin national holiday if I could!!

And for anyone saying there will be retaliation, honestly, there was going to be continued terrorism ANYWAY.

I dunno, this seems anticlimactic to me. I think I'd rather have had him stand trial than be killed. It just seems empty this way.

May the people that had loved ones lost find some Peace in the death of this evil person, who does not even deserve to to have his name uttered.

Bravo to all our Brave Military!
Bravo to the procedures in place to secure the information that Lead to this!

Be Vigilant ......and Peace to All Our Citizens around the world!

This bears repeating. And not just because it's Frank. ;)

Ha! My FB profile pic is now a pic of Obama standing in front of the Mission Accomplished sign. But I don't want to make anyone mad. I would have been just a thrilled had this been done under Bush. And anyway, it's the men on the ground we are all thankful for.

It looks filthy inside, you can here a dog in the background barking.

Well, from what it sounds like, they were living within the walls 24/7 for quite some time. Only the couriers were coming and going, and that, too, was infrequently. Anytime people are stuck living inside for a long time, basic cleanliness seems to start going by the wayside. In addition we know he was very ill, so he wasn't getting up to clean, and who knows what kind of struggle went on inside that would have added to the mess.

It may have been a "mansion" in the sense of its size & worth, but it really was nothing more than a hideout.

I would like thank our armed forces for their dedication over the past ten years to quit until justice was served.
