Bin laden dead!

BEST news in a long while!! :thumbsup2

So proud of our CIA, who "found" and "fixed" the target and the Navy Seals who "finished" the job - :worship:

Public Enemy #1 is GONE, and not a single US casualty!

I'm glad we took him out. Capturing him and taking him to trial would have only encouraged his Al Qaeda lunatics to more violence.

As for those who asked about the DNA testing, they have his sister's brain. She died of cancer in Boston, and her brain was preserved just for the purpose of using it to identify bin Laden.

Twitter broke the news first.

apparently someone living near the compound sent a tweet that unexplained helicopters were flying over near him

CNN is coming back with more info. how interesting that in this day and age with twitter, facebook and all kinds of other social sites that thats how the news got out first even though the guy didn't know he was breaking news

WOW - the guy was on "vacation" and wanted to get away from the noise and busy stuff and tweeted that its'1am and helicopters are flying overhead then the name of the town.

.

Yeah, but you have to sort through a lot of unsubstantiated, baseless rumors on FB, Twitter and blogs before you might find any "real" news. Just check out the Dis thread from last night about the press conference to see how erroneous that kind of stuff can be.

I'd rather hear it right than hear it first.

Funny, as a survivor of the WTC attacks of 9/11, I have felt a combination of
(1) hoping it was true
(2) absolutly nothing.

This is NOT the reaction I expected. At all. I guess it doesn't bring back anyone, doesn't make us really safer (after all, it was reported he hadn't been in control for some time), doesn't bring back our feeling of safety and comfort in our country.

It's a great thing-I just don't feel anything :sad1:

 so you were there? I can't even imagine the sheer terror you went through.

Everyone has different reactions, none being right or wrong. I only hope peace for you :flower3:

Huge win for the intelligence community and our troops. I'm sure the scum bag politicians will try to take credit for it but the people who deserve the credit are the ones who put their life on the line to get the job done.

Bravo!
:thumbsup2 This truly needs to be said again.

News is saying he'll be buried at sea, after a ritual Muslim washing and wrapping, and it'll be done within the 24 hrs as required by Muslim law. This was on FOX right now.

I don't think they truly gave him a burial required by law. According to their law he needed to face Mecca which didn't happen. Well, that is what I heard.

Yes-and thanks for the kind words. I actually posted on DIS about my experiences a day or 2 after it happened. I can't believe it is almost 10 years.

I find myself wondering what Ghadaffi is thinking today, particularly in light of his narrow escape this weekend.

I know this may not be relevant to the conversation, however I can't help but even IMAGINE the terror in the hearts of those who actually entered that compound in this attempt to capture him.

Can you even imagine the adrenaline and heart rate/blood pressure raging through the Navy SEALS? And to come in, guns blazing and actually be face to face with OBL?

Gives me shivers just thinking about it...God bless those who fulfilled this mission...and may peace be with you.

I imagine the terror was in the hearts of those in that compound. Don't believe the SEALS was afraid for one minute. No place for fear.

SEALs don't "do" fear. :thumbsup2

The guys IN the compound though...sucked to be them!

He's thinking there is an elite fighting force that all of a sudden finds themselves in need of another mission. :thumbsup2

Why re you belittling these men?!?! Because they have a different view? I doubt there was any fear in them as well.

I'm glad I checked this board and found so many liked minded individuals as myself. I spent the morning listening to a bunch of women go on and on that anyone happy over killing a man is just as wrong as those who killed him.

This was here, in America. It blew my mind away. I was made to feel guilty for being happy this scumbag was wiped off the earth. I mean listen, I have my easygoing qualities but I will NEVER feel guilty about the death of this man when both he and his people wouldn't shed a tear if they killed me, my children or my family and friends.

I don't understand anyone who was born and raised here who cannot feel anything but some sort of joy over this man's demise, after what he has done to our people, our country and to our friend's overseas. My husband's cousin has been either serving in Iraq or Afghanistan since shortly after 9/11. I know the dread he's experienced and how much he wishes he could be home sometime soon, for good.

I also will NOT subscribe to the paranoia and bs that this doesn't do anything, it may not end the terror overnight but it sure as hell sends a clear cut message that we will NOT stand down and we do have the means to the end.

Ok, now I can breathe.

That thread you started wasn't enough? I hardly think saying those people were afraid is belittling them. The end was near and they had to know it.

You really have a strange take on this.

I'm pretty sure any man, regardless of race or religion, would be terrified to have the Navy SEALS descend upon them with guns drawn.

Good points!! You're right...they prob went in there with not a shred of fear whatsoever. I can't fathom being that fearless...but thank God we have those serving us that are!

If they weren't fearful of what was happening please explain why those spineless "men" used women to shield themselves from the gunfire during the final minutes. I have ZERO issues with belittling ANY human who would use a child or a woman as a human shield to protect themselves when they are faced with death in the name of a God that promotes the kind of evil they praise.

And the fact that they didn't go down on their terms like they claim they did on the 9-11 attacks makes it even better in my book.
