Just in case some folks need a visual:

:confused3 What makes you think they wouldn't?

Oh wait...

Don't have much faith in our military? Amiright?

I'm pretty sure luvsjack meant that they may have cracked open a few beers.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

And played some Toby Keith songs.

Actually I have all the faith in the world in our military, since I can't think of a single instance where they've let us down in the field of battle.

Not being naive enough to believe that there aren't any bad apples in our military = lack of faith & support for them. Another stretch?

Got any more?

I think we had this dixie chicks debate many moons ago... LOL I remember because I was there...:lmao:

I support the military, I love patriotic songs, I have flown the American Flag on my house since 9/11.... and i supported the DIxie Chicks Right to their Freedom of Speech....

I abhor the assumption that just because my opinion is different than yours.. that I am any less American or any less of a Patriot !

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I support all of those things too. And I didn't say it made you anything.

But please do not tell me that she sounded like a "patriot" by saying the things she said.

Or, you just didn't agree with them. Why do they have be stupid, disrespectful and disloyal to the US because they didn't agree with you?[/QUOTE

Its not about agreeing with them. There is a time and a place for everything and that was not the time nor the place for those remarks. She should have kept her mouth shut. And she is an idiot regardless.

Disagree. Very strongly.

I said "i " was a Patriot not her... LOL and I never said "you " did anything....

ETA but since you brought it up I do think that it should be considered patriotic to express your concerns about a government policy you disagree with , especially when that is an unpopular opinion...
The USA would not exist today if brave patriots had not spoken up and stood up to the established order of the day....

I know how some feel about quotes on this thread :lmao: but...

"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then." -- Thomas Jefferson - (1743-1826), US Founding Father, drafted the Declaration of Independence, 3rd US President Source: letter to Abigail Adams, February 22, 1787; reproduced in Thomas Jefferson, Writings (The Library of America, 1984), p. 889-890

That is a great quote. In reference to the Osama situation I prefer this one from Full Metal Jacket:

"Then how about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big win?"

Seal Team Six FTW...Osama PWND!
w00t

Don't even want to guess what they mean, because apparently FTW has an entirely different meaning now adays than it used to. So clue in the old folks please. :)

FTW now means "for the win".

I much prefer its old meaning though, I say it in my head when I'm ticked at the world.

Oh, sorry, you are correct--you did say YOU not her. :goodvibes

Yes of course we wouldn't be here without those brave patriots. But they stood up and said what they did to accomplish something and to make a change. The things she said were not to accomplish anything except maybe the hope to sell a few CD's (boy did that backfire) She was not trying to change anything or to accomplish anything. Those patriots you speak of were ready to lay down their lives to accomplish the changes they thought were best for our country--is Natalie Maines ready to do that?

For those that don't speak l33t:

Seal Team Six for the win...Osama owned.

We own (the) other team.

Breaking News from Bikini Bottoms...Sponge Bob Square Pants has issued a HIGH Terrorist Alert. Reports coming in that Bin Laden has been spotted sinking around Mr. Krabs underwater mansion...More on this breaking story later...

I have younger brothers in college now and they watched my mom & I cry. They knew what my DH was doing. It was on the news 24/7. You couldn't go anywhere around here without flags hanging off of cars and houses. The way people acted was different. They knew this was a horrific event. It had to have huge psychological impacts on the minds of those kids. Not to mention we knew people who died, too. It's bad enough when one person in your own family dies of natural/accidental causes, it can cause issues.

But when they heard over and over how one man was behind it all, how else where they supposed to feel?

How can those self-righteous refuse to see that? :confused3 I think it's pretty nervy to look down on someone on the way they deal with grief. They have no clue if someone from school's dad was killed in the towers and maybe they wanted to lift them out of a funk. The world is not black and white.

:thumbsup2 I feel bad for the kids. It was horrible to deal with as an adult.

I think you make some good points. I'm a high school teacher (took today off for an appointment, before anyone wonders why I'm DISing midday LOL) and my students were in kindergarten on 9-11. They have a very different perspective on the attacks than adults do, since much of it was filtered in various ways by the adults around them (teachers, parents etc.) For some of them, 9-11 is one of their earliest memories, certainly among the most vivid. But many did not directly see the attacks or the coverage - at least didn't see the worst of it.

I think that's why we see the celebrations tending to focus around college campuses or at least involving many younger people. They are looking at this through a different lens - maybe a simpler one - that's not really the word I want to use, because I think it's a tad insulting, but I can't come up with a better one. They're not as in touch with the grief many felt, because at that young an age in 2001, they couldn't really understand what was going on.

I'm in my mid-30s and was working in a newsroom on 9-11 and the days that followed. Myself, I didn't feel necessarily happy Sunday - relieved, but it is bittersweet relief. Nothing will bring back the dead, or entirely heal that scar on the country. In a way it reopened that wound, IMO.

Just my $.02...
