I know you can rent bikes at HH, but how does it work? Do they rent by the hour only or can you get them for your entire stay. I don't suppose they offer anything like the bike and boat plan at WDW?! Are there enough places to ride that it would make sense to rent bikes for the week? Thanks!

Bike riding at HH is great. There are many miles of bike trails and the beach offers a fun place to ride.

The resort does have rentals- hourly, daily and a family weekly rate (I don't remember the details but it seemed to be a good deal). There are also local companies that will deliver to the resort and have very competitive rates.

IMO, the best trails are located at Sea Pines, where the trails are all paved and free of auto traffic- except where they cross roadways. Near the HH resort, there is a trail under the main highway that leads to the beach and the Palmetto Dunes plantation.

I concur with Doc, biking at HH is wonderful!

But I thought I'd share a bit of well-learned advice when venturing onto the beach for some biking.

LOL! :)

That's GREAT advice!

If you have a cell phone, bring it with you. We had problems with the bikes the first time we rented them and should have had our cell phone. The next trip we always brought it with us and didn't have any problems. Go figure!

We have rented from Disney on the family weekly plan. It was $50 last summer for 2 bikes, each additional bike was $10. We used a trailer for our 2 year old, which we also rented from Disney. It was great to pull him to the beach along with our assortment of "stuff". We found the ride to and from the beach an easy one.

Have fun!

Thanks everyone for the info and great ideas! We will plan on renting for the whole week.

Now you tell us. :) :) On our first trip to HHI I went out with the wind at my back, and rode to Coligny. I felt like Lance Armstrong. Then I turned around and reality set in. I had to walk my bike most of the way back. Boy, was my face red (and not from sunburn).

Jimbo,

We did the SAME thing (hence my word of advice). Only we had kids on the back of our bikes too. They looked like little popsicles by the time we got back to the beach house. Starting off with the wind at our backs--and therefore going really far before turning around--was definately not one of our more stellar parenting moments.

Oh well, live and learn. And it does make us laugh NOW when we think back on it.

Looking forward to our second trip to HH in late March and we'll check out the opposite end of HH (from the beach house) this time. ;)
