This news flash was just posted by Disney On The Bayou on the thread that was asking for information about the Bike & Boat Family Plan.

Just returned from VWL and found out that the family plan is no longer! Yep, no longer. I had to beg them to let me have it for this trip but officialy its over. Good Luck!

I am extremely disappointed to hear this news. That was an awesome plan and we really enjoyed it this summer. At that time, it was $199 for length-of-stay, regardless of how long you were staying (we were 10 days).

Then later in the summer they cut it back to a maximum of a week, and now it seems to be completely gone!

What a shame!

I wanted to move this into it's own thread, since so many members here have used this great plan or expressed interest in it.

Thanks, Disney On The Bayou....I hope you don't mind me clipping your notification into this thread.

I am super disappointed. I am staying at Wilderness lodge just so we can get the boat and bike plan.

Maybe it will come back.

My kids will be very disappointed. Although I don't care that much. I get tired of the boats after about 30 minutes.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bike & Boat Family Plan was such a great day breaker and in my eyes was a "help" to "visually sell" the 1/2hr rentals, bikes or boats. I guess I was wrong, I am interested and mabye will post a poll for members too see if "our" marina has less boat usage since they decided to drop the plan. The shame is we got a discount, but the plan was for any guest to use, so now no one can take advantage of the good deal it was.

Another question, since it's not the discount but the plan that they removed, what about all the other resorts (DVC and Non-DVC)?????? Did they adopt the same agenda? Or was the WL/VWL boat/bike rentals used so much that they figured we were easy targets to milk more money from??? Does the Captain Plan still exist ??????

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

That is the only reason why we were staying at VWL this coming April!!! My family was so looking forward to this benefit!!!

Maybe we will try to change our ressies now for our home, OKW and save some points!!!

MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

What was the reason?????????/

I just called MS and expressed my displeasure in this change. The CM that answered the phone did not know of the discontinuation of this plan and had to call over to VWL where it was confirmed!!!

I explained to her that we were only staying there because of the plan and would have booked BWV or BCV (which were available at the time of booking!!!! and we have friends staying at both these places!!) for this trip if it wasn't for the plan.................of course, there was nothing she could do about it now but I just had to vent!!!!

I'm not surprised that MS was unaware of the discontinuance of this since it's not a DVC program. It was open to everyone.

I agree it was a great plan. And we definitely won't be doing much boating or biking...probably none. Paying the hourly rate seems kind of high...but getting a lot of usage out of a flat rate seemed like a much better deal. I think I figured that after about 5 hours of usage or so, we broke even and everything after that was free.

I'm hoping that maybe DVC will come up with their own plan there? (hint, hint...in case any Disney-type folks are reading this).

Otherwise, we'll just have to pass on the bike and boat thing, I'm afraid.

Mabye their gonna build that boat ramp I was looking for.

Or how bout this ! We have discovered where the MAGIC will be for the 3 months of summer 2005 . 8 Day/7 Night cruise on Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon! First stop Magic Kingdom!

Oh Nutz.:( :( :(

I was tempted to try to change our May res to VWL just for this reason. I guess I'll stay put at OKW.

:( :( :( :( :(

That's why I chose VWL for our family reunion. Oh well. No one else will know what they are missing I guess.

Darn.

So sorry to hear this! The Bike and Boat plan was something that we always said that we would do "next time" and never have. Now, unless DVC decides to offer this as a "perk" we probably never will.:(

We've used the boat & bike plans for years now :( How disappointing :(

Does anyone know about the Murphy Plan? It offered 4 hours of bike/boating for I think it was 120.00, is it still in existance???

What about the Contemporary bike/boat plan? Was it disbanded as well?

May I suggest those of you who are disappointed in the disappearance of the Bike & Boat plan might be more effective if you called Wilderness Lodge to try and get it back? Going through DVC is going through the wrong entity. All it takes is a phone call.

I will be sending in an e-mail and probably follow up with a phone call. But it doesn't appear to be the kind of thing that a few phone calls or letters will change.

I posted it here for the exact responses that I got...I knew that several fellow DVCers planned on using the Family Plan and wanted them to know it was gone.

If I get a response, I'll share it with the boards.

I haven't heard of that. But four hours for $120 compared to unlimited for $199 is quite a difference in value.

During peak times persons using the family boat and bike plan were monopolizing all the rentals so that hourly paying customers were unable to rent out the equipment. I could see them using this plan again during slow times or winter months to drum up business. I very disappointed as I was taking my entire family there this Thanksgiving.

Exactly. I was told by a friend that works there, that they never had a problem with too many guests using this plan until it was widely shared on the Internet. Then it became a problem.

As you stated I was also told they might add it on during slow times, but it will be unannounced except to guests at the resort at that time by possibly putting it in the newsletter you get a check in. It would not be something you could plan on having at any certain time.

We were planning on doing the family boat and bike plan this summer. My kids were really looking forward to it. We thought we would make this trip much more relaxing, with less time in the parks. Using the plan was going to be one of the highlights of our trip. We are going the very end of August & early September, so I hope maybe they will have it since that is a slower time.

I called Wilderness campground to see if they still had it. I was informed that all Marinas no longer offer the Family plan or the Captains plan. I spoke to the manager and he said they were deciding what they wanted to do, if anything. He said there was no plans of any type right now. Slow seasons they might have something. He then recalled that you might get wishes option with your resort stay. I told him that being a DVC member I could not get any wish package.

Family plan would be a great DVC incentive.
