Biggest Misconceptions

she gets to ride the selected ride as many times as she wants as long as it is within her FP window.

That actually sort of makes sense... If only it allowed for this...

That having a FP+ For Captain EO first thing in the morning is a good and necessary thing. Seriously saw people doing this. I don't note this to be mean, but point out the misconception that some folks have about the necessity of the fastpasses they select (or are just given by MDX).

But did you talk to all those people to determine if they actually thought it was good and necessary? Or their reasons for it?

I had a bonus day at Epcot when we allowed ourselves to be bumped from our flight Superbowl Sunday 2014, and just before getting my rental car I went through and made some FP+s. Front and center was Figment. I had never been on it (reason why is related to my answer after the next quote) and was interested in it, and wasn't sure what the lines would be like. So I made the reservation. Much longer explanation than someone just thinking I thought it was necessary because I had it. :)

I am pretty surprised at some disney veterans/people who live in the area who I know that are ill informed or they just don't know.

Wasn't the A&E meet/greet only in Epcot a while ago, though?

And yes, I think it's really easy for locals to just assume nothing has changed since their last visits. My family lives on the coast out there and we knew quite a bit that they didn't now, because they had just done the parks the way they did the parks, and never changed their touring styles. And that's why I thought Figment was closed, because *they told us* over 3 visits in 2 years that Figment was closed, so I never even went over to that building area.

Yep, they moved the A/E to MK quite a while before our trip last year so I was pretty shocked that she didn't know. Also very possible she didn't have daughters lol

I overheard a woman ask a cast member at Spaceship Earth if her "hopper ticket" entitled her to use the FastPass line. I doubt that's a common misconception, but it did make me wonder how much a "line hopper" ticket would cost compared to a park hopper :).
I'm amazed at what people assume. My husband, for instance, thought park hoppers meant we had tickets for both Disney and Universal  Clearly I don't need any more proof that he doesn't listen when I talk...

I've heard people in the parks, at home, AND on the DISboards imply that Cinderella, Rapunzel, Anna, Elsa, et al are Cast Members in costume, and not actual princesses.

It blows my mind that people can be that stupid. OF COURSE they're actual princesses. Do you really think they'd let a Cast Member live in the Castle?

For those who have been to the parks with FP+, what do you find are the biggest misconceptions people make with the new system? I was reading a post the other day and the poster was saying how they saw a woman at the park arguing with a CM about how she gets to ride the selected ride as many times as she wants as long as it is within her FP window. Is there incorrect info out there or do people just not know how to google something? I am not saying this to be mean, just intrigued.
WOW , bless her heart

I had to tell my coworker that there was no such thing as Universal/Disney Hoppers- they are 2 separate companies! I really don't think she believed me and had to go home and research herself- smh I'm also trying to walk her through fastpasses but she sounds like she rather see if she can find a deal on tickets when she gets down there or just buy them at the gate.:sad2:

I have heard that so many times it is ridiculous! Yes, they can track you, but, they only track you as a number unless there is a reason to track you as a person. They want to know where people are in the park, not where an individual person is in the park. They need to know how to man each area and what kind of traffic it is generating. If they truly wanted to track individuals specifically do you have any idea how many people it would take on the staff to do that.

I understand that the novel and movie 1984 which put a great deal of emphasis on the problem of "big brother" tracking has kind of brought out a lot of paranoia in many people, it isn't, in Disney's case anyway, a completely personal thing. It is also a direct result of our seeming never ending quest to be attached electronically 24/7/365. It is the side affect of that obsession and is already at a point of no return. We got what we asked for, but, in the case of Disney, it is relatively harmless. Yes, if someone were to give them your ID number they could find you, but, otherwise, it would be a waste of time and energy to care unless requested.

I totally agree they're not doing any live tracking, with a NASA style room of monitors and cast members keeping notes on where each person is at every moment. I'd be shocked however, if they're not doing data mining on when & where individual magic bands are used - for park entry, meal purchases, fastpass, souvenirs, etc. Information on "typical days" for an individual at the parks would be extremely useful for them. And I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they're at least looking into marketing based on individual usage - if they find a magic band usage profile that correlates with big spenders, they'll direct more marketing effort into getting people who fit that profile to come back.

I would never want to come across as a Disney snob to these confused people. But sometime the questions could be easily solved by a simple google search. I have asked questions on this board and people pounce on you if you ask the "wrong question." But I typically do some research before I ask.

I think the common misconception with the Fast Pass+ system is:

"You mean I have to schedule out my entire day? When to ride certain rides and when to eat meals?"

It is just hard to explain to people that the Fast Pass system isn't NECESSARY, but just allows you to skip a few lines throughout the day.
While some see it as a necessity that sucks the fun and spontaneity out of the day since you have to schedule every minute!

I think an even bigger misconception was that you could do WDW before FP+ without planning and scheduling :)

When people think that the whole WDW resort is just a kids park...

It drives me crazy. If they only knew how big WDW actually is...

I think a lot of people think you book your hotel and order your tickets and thats all you have to do...I'm sorry to say but we disboarders know way more then the average person, I work in a school and we were on spring break last week, the week after easter,,, seven families that i have talked to went last week...a few of them only for three days a couple for the whole week... six of them had no Idea about fast pass plus, how could you not know with the emails they send out... yes they should have done more research,,, but a lot of people dont think that way.. you book your hotel then you go,,, if only I had known they were going... four of the families say they will never go back ,couldnt get any good restaurants, couldnt ride any good rides with out an hour wait, couldnt meet anna and elsa, couldnt ride SDMT,,, A couple of them say they will go back, but will do a lot more planning, they didnt realize how much planning you need to do...

Those not familiar thinking they do not have to make any dining reservations.

It's unfortunate for those that go expecting to experience some exciting dining yet are turned away from most.
