Biggest Misconceptions about WDW

Probably the granddaddy of them all is that only the Magic Kingdom IS Disney World (and that Epcot, MGM, and Animal Kingdom are not part of it).

But what are some common misconceptions that you've either experienced yourself...thought something about WDW or its resorts that you later learned was untrue, or maybe know someone, or overheard misconceptions.

The biggest misconception I have found is those that say you lose a lot in service staying at a value resort. UNTRUE!!!! We stayed at All Star Music on our last trip and the service was wonderful! The atmosphere was great, the CM's answered all our questions and any concerns we had. My children loved coming back to the room at night and finding all their stuffies looking out the window. This year we're staying at All Star Sports and I can't wait! DISNEY ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

I just heard a radio announcer this morning, when discussing theme parks in Orlando, refer to "...Disney World, Universal, MGM, Epcot..."

Poor Animal Kingdom always gets left out.

I hate when people say it is too expensive. What entertainment is not too expensive! Have they been to Six Flag or a football or basketball game lately? People will gladly spend $75 or much more for a football/basketball game ticket or a concert ticket but complain the WDW tickets cost too much!

Just like most things in life, Disney can be done very affordably on a tight budget if you look for deals or you can spend a fortune if money is no object.

That you should not bring young children because they will not remember it. Our trips are for all of us to spend time together and create memories. Like the look on DDs eyes at the age of 2 when she saw the castle for the first time, she may not remember it but I will never forget it. :cloud9:

I think a lot of people think WDW is an amusement park, like Six Flags. WDW is a "Theme" park. It is about the total experience. I love just sitting around looking at all the details in WDW. Even the smallest details are important to the Disney Imagineers.

I agree with you Wannabe@WDW. My husband refuses to go to WDW cause he insists its an amusement park. He wont believe there's a big difference between a Themed Park and an amusement park. Trying to talk to him to impossible because his answer is " It has rides so its an amusemnet park."

So I leave him at home and go with my DD18 and DS20 and we have agreat time . :cool1:

I too agree about the people complaining about the cost. We live near a r  esort that has a boardwalk. We just went last noc for 5 hours. 2 large pizzas and 3 pitchers of soda was 75$, the rides were 40 tix for 15.00 and all of the good rides were 8 tix a piece. i've always said that Disney is much cleaner, more enjoyable and LESS CROWDED than Ocean City in the summer!!

I love  the All Stars----they can't be beat. I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in 1971. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney. :earsboy: :earsgirl:
My last 4 visits have been at The All Stars and this fall when we take dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 we are staying at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic at the All Stars on his first visit. I can hardly wait. :hourglass
When we pull up to check in and I see those huge icons I know I'm at Disney :earboy2:

That wouldn't happen to be Ocean City would it? We have gone there for vacation the last two years staying at the Holiday Inn Suites Hotel on the boardwalk. 7 Days at WL looks frugal compared to the cost of going to the beach for the summer. I agree about the food cost and rides. For those of you that think the counter service food is expensive at WDW check out the cost at Ocean City.

Having said that OC is a great place to go but still this year Disney here we come!

When people say - I'd get bored of Disney if I went every year like you...

No they wouldn't - they'd learn what it is to have a FUN vacatyion.

The biggest misconception we've seen is that WDW is just for kids. SO not true....

Ditto that. We're two young adults (23 and 29) who go twice and year and love every minute of it! No one else seems to get that... :confused3

:wave2: I love it when I tell people I am going to WDW for 8 days and they tell me that I can see it all in just a couple of days...they have never been or know nothing about it... :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Also when people think you can walk from park to park because they are "next" to each other...! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I still smile when I think about having to "coax" my husband into taking a trip to WDW in 1996. He was a bit aprehensive and really wasn't sure he would like it. Almost 10 years later we are now DVC owners and have visited the world many times since. He didn't "get it" till he went there....now he loves it as much as me. For all of you that think WDW is an amusement park, think again. However, if you're that sure you won't like it, stay home....that means less crowds for the rest of us.... :rotfl: As for traveling to Ocean City, YUK....Been there more times than I'd like to remember. Just returned from a trip to Myrtle Beach and spent as much as a WDW vacation. What the heck were we thinking??????

My SIL just returned from her first Disney trip. Her biggest misconception was that MK, Epcot, AK & MGM weren't smack dab beside each other. She thought you could just hop, skip and jump quickly between them. :rotfl: She also was disappointed that it did have more rides like Six Flags, etc. for the older kids.

I agree with what others have said!

Another misconception is that it's awful to go to WDW during Spring/Easter Break.

Getting to the parks early and clearing out midday made it so so great!!! We saw/did everything and thanks to a plan and fastpass, we never waited more than maybe 15 minutes for anything.

Would absolutely go again in March or April -- weather's nice!

That the food is terrible and completely overpriced everywhere at WDW.

I actually think a lot of the counterservice is pretty good, and it's far less expensive than some of the other non-Disney parks that servce some fairly inedible stuff! Not to mention many of the really great sit-down restaurants.

I just don't get it.....it's like a cult belief and people just nod their heads in agreement. Maybe they're going to WDW in an alternate universe or I just have really easy-to-please food tastes!

I have to agree with shelly3girls, I took my 1st DD at the age of 3, we went back when she was 4, and we ar going back this year when she is 6 and her little sister is turning 1. We have had a great time on each trip and this one will be just as good if not better.

Another misconception: Disney is too crowded. Yes it can be, and I should say this too loud, but try going in early December, you will yearn to go back every December.
