Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

QOTD - I LOVE outdoor activities. Usually running or walking the trails. Our town has the rails to trails program, where all the old railways are now biking trails. They did them a few years ago and they are really nice. I don't have to worry about uneven surfaces or anything like that. It also feels very safe I don't really about running on my own. It's also walking distance from my house, and i have three more entrances less than 2 miles from my house. I really enjoy hiking as well and would love to bike but i ran over my bike a few years ago and can't afford a new one!

Pamela The one thing I did really like about that documentray is that while juicing does not necessarily teach you good healthy eating habits is that guy did practice good healthy eating habits after he lost the weight so that was good. Did you make the pumpkin oatmeal yourself? I love pumpkin! That sounds so good!

I started my new job today and it went really well. It's at the Harriet Beecher Stowe house and i will be a tour guide, but today being the first day i didn't have to do any of that. Everyone seems really friendly and happy and it seems like a relaxed atmosphere. It's such a change from Petsmart where everyone hates their job and is miserable, people here really seem to like their job. And it seems like if you follow basic rules they are quite leinent about most things. You get quite a bit of down time where you can read and my boss even said "Everyone falls asleep at this job at least once, it's cool don't worry about it." This is EXACTLY the kind of atmosphere i need. I'm big on customer service but i also like feeling relaxed at my job, and like i can actually enjoy my day.

I also love the fact that its historical. I learned so much in one day! The houses and grounds are just beautiful, i LOVE that era and it just makes me want to live there. It's not necessarily an aspect of history i'm overly interested in but i'm eager to learn! I'd be more at home with WWII Era European stuff, or British History, but it's nice to have well rounded history backround. They also change their tours with the seasons (they even have a ghost tour) and I'm hoping this job will last past the summer (that's the impression i get) so this might turn out to be a good thing. There is also room to move into the musuem education department working with school groups which is actually the field i want to go into if the whole teaching thing falls through so that would be super amazing.

Who knows, it could turn out to be worse than i thought, but i got a good vibe, and i was really surprised by how relaxed and friendly everyone seemed. Also i'm training with another girl so i'm not like the only new person and she seems nice.

Today was someone's last day and they had a big cake from this really popular italian bakery and i declined a piece. I said lactose intolerance as the reason but i didn't want the extra calories as well. Cake is a weak point for me so i was proud.

Although when i came home i just wanted to eat everything, and i'm having a hungry night. No one made dinner so i just made some soup but it wasn't great.. i'm going to try some fruit to satisfy my hunger cravings i hope that will help. I had sushi for lunch so i'm not sure why i feel so hungry!

Something weird just happened while I was updating the first page. Be right back. LOL

Question of the Day NOw that summer is here every talks about water. What do like "Ocean, RIver, Lake or Pool" Or do you have a fear of the water?

I think I like the way a river looks and I liking walking along a river and listening to it; it is probably my favorite. I do like oceans to walk along, but only occassionally. I spent a good much of my childhood on or near lakes - I like little ponds better. I swim in a pool occassionally, but not that often.

I don't have a fear of water per se. I would like to go white water rafting and I enjoy cruises. Canoeing is fun too, but have not done it in years (since GS). But I have a fear of drowning, of not being able to breathe. I had someone very close to me drown when I was young, so perhaps that is where it came from.

Carol It couldn't hurt to talk to your DR. But other than that, just keep an eye out for the bullseye mark (Athough some people never get that), high fever, joint pain.
Jill DS is responsible for taking his pill. I can never remember so he just takes it at the same time DS10 takes his ADD meds in the morning, and then again before he goes to bed.
Rose Lyme is tough, if left untreated it can cause neurological problems. My brother has the joint swelling on occasion. Hopefully we caught it early enough that he doesn't have any lasting effects.

I'm trying to figure out a time to see someone just to get the blood workup, although we wonder if it was really a deer tick. I don't have the rash, but have joint pain and headaches - but joint pain isn't that odd with my joints, and headaches could be due to the heavy work load since my coworker is out on vacay.

Buffy, I accidentally deleted your quote - but those decorations are awesome. You did such a great job on them!

Have a GREAT week!

I don't think we've heard back from Jen yet. If so, I haven't seen it either.
Anyone hear anything??

And I HATE picnicking in the sand! Who wants to have that grit in their teeth from eating a picnic that has sand blown in it??? And I've NEVER seen the appeal of just going to the beach and laying there. Plus I'm a blue-eyed blonde. We would spend that one day each summer trying NOT to get sunburned!!
That said, I love going to the Cape for our time with my in-laws each summer. I love sitting on the beach visiting and chatting and taking walks. If it is super hot (or the water is warm) I will venture in and wade, but I hate the taste and feel of salt water on my skin and hair. I love the IDEA of the ocean, I like the sound of the waves and the smell of the water (but not at low tide;) ). I love walking on the beach and the warm sun. But I don't LIVE to go to the ocean.

I might try an apple with a little bit of PB - the protein might make it a bit filling. I use to eat apples regularly and is seemed to be true about keeping the doctor away!

I was wondering about Jen myself after she had to stop to take care of her DS. I hope all is going well. I am concerned about Ash as well - there was an issue with her blog and she was feeling very down the last I read - was hoping she might show up here.

I feel pretty much the same about the beach at the ocean. My favorite time was when we took DS when he was younger, it was overcast and breezy and the waves were crashing. That is an exciting ocean, and he was having a ball, running from the crashing waves, giggling - he was young then! Haven't been back since. When we have time, we go west, to the mountains - or what they call mountains out here. I'm more of a mountain girl, think they are so pretty. I can take or leave the beach.

I don't "twit" :lmao: and I'm not on MFP and I RARELY hit FB, so I won't be looking for you there. But I hope you have a successful run!

Why do I ramble on and on about my housework? I don't think anyone cares and I don't blame you one bit! :lmao: Guess I"m just thinking out loud.

I don't do the tweets or the MFP either (I can barely keep up with WW and this challenge!). I got on FB because I there were something I wanted to see, but most of my old friends don't seem to have joined, and I friended a few but got bored...I prefer email and boards like this.

I'm just amazed that you do so much! It would be nice if my house was as immaculate as yours must be! Even though you say it is messy, I have trouble keeping up with pack rat DH!

Ugh After an amazing start last week, I can't get 2 good days in a row this week. Had a stellar day yesterday with good eating and great workout and then today just could not get myself away from eating eating eating. Have eaten more than double my daily calorie allotment according to MFP.:scared1: Seems that one false move today led to a landslide.:guilty:
BUT I will get back on tomorrow and let this day be a hiccough not a derailing.
I will look at the positive side in that I honestly kept track and was able to see what I did so I can learn from it rather than just try to ignore it. AND tomorrow is a new day where I can start fresh. 1 really bad day wont hurt too bad but 2 in a row is a definite no no for me.
Back on the wagon.......
Christopher

I have had some issues this week too, as well as some really hungry days. Still OP, but used up a good many of my splurge points. Exercising has fallen by the wayside. Maybe now that my coworker is back it will be a little better - of course, in a week we may (or may not, depending on DH schedule) be on a trip to see family. That is always hard to work into a plan.

I enjoy water and grew up on the Y swim team starting at age 6. I enjoy being in pools the most. I like laying around the beach but only go in the ocean a bit. I want to be able to see my toes. As soon as I can't, I start to panic. I never go in lakes and I enjoy rafting and kayaking on rivers, but won't go in them. I think as I got older and starting thinking about what's in the water, I decided I didn't need to get in :lmao:

I grew up swimming in a lake about a mile from my home, went with my friends all the time. When I was a teenager they started talking about how dirty our lake was from all the sewage being dumped in by the lakeside homes :( Geez...needless to say, I didn't go swimming in there after that, and I don't really want to be in lakes anymore...

Nice. That's pretty responsible. DS6 wants liquid antibiotics still, so I have to remember to give it to him. We finished today, so I don't have to think anymore.

:rotfl::rotfl:This just sounded so funny, and now out of context...:lmao:

Izzie Update: We went to see our PCP this morning. Got in at 9:40 this morning. Ear is looking much better. He put her on an antibiotic to be on the safe side saying it would also help with any blood that may still be in the ear area. She was so happy to get the tape and gauze off of her face and hair. We will go back one more time to see our PCP before our vacation to do one more check. Can't miss work tomorrow so that's why I didn't make appt with surgeon. I know our PCP well and if he saw a problem we would have been sent to someone else right away. We went shopping with my parents the rest of the morning and early afternoon and then picked up Ash. She's going to dancing but only watching today. It is the last class before dress rehearsal for the recital so the director of the centre wants her there to at least watch and see how the finale is being done since she missed last week. I was perfectly fine with that and I agreed!

Glad her ear is doing better.

My latest Sparkpeople blog:

It was much easier just to copy and paste then to write the entire thing out again.

Congrats! I'm glad things are falling into place for you. Good luck!

I've been keeping up with all of the posts but haven't had time to post myself. Life has been crazy with the show getting ready to close, the tony awards last night and trying to find a new job. I've put some feelers out and gotten two responses!:banana: The industry is really small so two is amazing. One was from a supervisor who will need people in July and one was from another wardrober with advice. I want to switch from theatre to flim this summer because the hours are better and no one in theatre has any openings until september. I'm wearing a fit media band so while I haven't been able to workout as much as I would like at least I can make sure I have a calorie deficit everyday. Two more weeks and everything should calm down.

Good luck on the jobs!

Hey guys, sorry I have been MIA.
Well echo show my DD still has a PFO...for those of you non-medical folks :confused3 it means the hole between the 2 upper chambers of her heart that is supposed to be there while still a fetus and close soon after you are born, never closed once she was born.
Have some follow-ups todo with a pediatric cardiologist but typically they don't do anything with it. They do have her taking a baby aspirin every day but that is it for now unless she continues to have fainting spells. We saw our doc today and he said everything else looks good, not concerned about her having a stroke but keep her on the aspirin for now.

Kind of scary but sounds like the doctor is not too concerned that she will have future problems. Will it eventually close up?

OK, did anyone else get a chuckle out of this?!?!? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I just got hungry :blush:!

Hey regs and new people I haven't met yet. Will officially join tomorrow just saying hi. Not even going to try to catch up on 38 pages! I only have one kitten left of the original litter I took and he's 5 weeks today and went poo in the box last night the first time and now is going wild on it lol. I took in another litter that was 2 weeks old, found them a Mom to nurse on and kept the best eater of the lot as a friend for Triumph. She's a week younger than him but when the playing really kicks in that won't really matter.

Wow, you're really busy with that!

Question of the DayIn 6 months we will be going into to winter. Which season is your favorite? Is it easier for you to lose weight during a certain season? If so which one?

Love spring and summer; enjoy winters if they are snowy. But I really do not like summer, especially in this neck of the woods. It is just too humid for this girl from Wisconsin. But the temps are wonderful in the spring and fall, not too hot or cold, perfect for taking walks and getting outside.

Some days are just like that, Buffy. I myself went upstairs at 6:45 pm because I was under calories and I wanted to sure I stayed that way. :rotfl2:

Oh my gosh, I have days like that. Just go to bed before it goes bad.

** Disclaimer: This is more an "idea" than it is an actual recipe. I saw things like it around and decided to tweak it for my family. I am posting my recipe as I have it in black with other ideas and suggestions next to it in red

This looks really good! I may give it a whirl this weekend. I can aim for mostly the veggies, while DH can concentrate on the meat. I may mix it together for DS to make sure he eats the veggies!

This past weekend was kind of tough for me because my DH took me to DL on Sunday since my bday is Friday and we knew that it was going to be packed with the opening of cars land. I splurged and had a hot fudge sundae, however I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped on the scale on Monday and was down .2. Must have been all the water that we were drinking!

I notice that at the parks no matter what I eat, I don't really gain weight because of all the walking I am doing. I walk miles, so I think I walk it all off. I've even come out of those with a loss! I'm just way more active than I normally am, and like you said, I drink a lot of water because of being active and the heat.

Eating wise i've been doing ok. Not tracking everything, but trying to be better. I'm trying to focus on bigger breakfasts, because i find myself getting so hungry before lunch. My other goal is to stop late night eating. Second suppers are not the answer.
I have work tonight, which sucks because the skies are dark and rainy and i have a stomach ache and i would like nothing more than to nap in bed! I have about an hour before i have to leave so im going to relax with some tea and then force myself to go. Tomorrow is my first day of the new job! SO NERVOUS

I eat two breakfasts, sort of. Whole grain carbs and fruit first thing (oatmeal and usually blueberries) and then have a cheese stick when I get to work. A mid morning banana sometimes, and I can make it to lunch. If I am really busy though, I don't feel hungry. I always eat after supper, I always did as a kid, I just plan it into my day. Usually a little bit of ice cream as a treat.

Good luck on your first day of the new job!!!

As for the diet I started giving myself one high calorie meal a week so I gave myself a pass Friday night. Saturday for some reason I could just not get satisfied. Every time I ate I would be hungry again a half hour later. I didn't eat any junk but I ate more than I should have. The past two days I have really watched what I was eating and fell much better. I just hope I still have a loss this week even if it is .1 pound!

I have found that the day after I splurge I am hungier than normal. I think we are confusing our bodies!

Question of the dayWhat do you like to do outside? Is is biking hiking or even water parks?

Mostly walking, and I combine it with geocaching. Really enjoy it when DS comes with me. I have a bike, but hate wearing a helmet, but should probably pull it out again. It is always fun to do. I discovered water parks last summer! Never had been to one before, my friend talked me into it and I had a blast, but it is not something I would go out of my way to do. We plan to hit one this summer while at Busch Gardens. Of course, first she had to talk me into actually wearing a swimsuit in public! I hadn't worn one in years.

*************************************************************************************************
Well, it is a little later than I thought. Think I'll close this one up for the night and write more next time.

Have a good night all!

Carol

I would love to go back to college. Not to further my career or anything like that, but just to learn about things I have an interest in. However, right now with work and family, my plate (and brain) is just too full to be of any good. I would love to have the wherewithall to go back to school without worrying about work. But I'm also in my 50's - a little more forgetful then I was the last time I went to college!

I will probably take some fun community college courses once we get DS off to his own college.

Wow, 27 years! Congrats! DH and I were married 32 years ago this September. I love your dress! I know you said it looks dated, but it is pretty and that is what we were wearing back then. My dress was saved and packed away, waiting for the daughter that didn't come along - I'll let DS decided what to do with it after I'm gone.

Watch out for those community college courses - they become addicting. I took several over the last couple of years. Mostly landscape design, which I then discovered the Intro to Perennials, Intro to shrubs, Intro to trees, graphic design?? :rotfl: Shrubs 2, trees 2, Master Gardener classes. And all I realized is, as my knowledge of planting materials grew - so did the budget costs!!! Oh did I mention the photography classes??

It wasn't me that called my dress dated - that was someone else. I happen to love my dress and veil, mine is also preserved and in a big box. I told DS he could use the material to make a christening gown for any future grandchildren. He rolled his eyes at me.

Shawn,
My ds and dh went to Sea Base. Which adventure is your son doing because there are several. My ds and dh did Out Island Adventure. They kayaked out to an island and lived there for several days. They had a guide for the entire time there. They were checked for swimming ability and could use a dive vest to help with flotation when there were snorkeling. I hope your son loves sea food because whatever they catch they eat.

DS and dh loved it. They slept on the beach (hope for breezes to keep away the bugs) and had a great time.

I was less worried about that adventure than Philmont which is much more strenuous.

He should have a good time.

Maybe I wasn't as worried about them because they went with another father and son and his wife and daughter and my younger son and I camped in Fort Wilderness and visited the parks.

DH and DS will be going to Philmont in 2014. DS just became a Life Scout, has 3 more Eagle required badges to go, which he will finish off this summer at camp. So he should be an Eagle scout by next spring. It will be a nice trip for the 2 of them before DS goes off to college.

I hope everyone's well - I have been so busy. I leave the house at noon, and return at midnight. I am so ready for retirement!!! I am planning my DF 80th birthday party, bringing him to his doctors appointments - he is going to need cataract surgery soon. But the doctors that see the elderly - if I ever got out of the office in under 2 hours I would be shocked. 3 hours at the eye doctor Tuesday. :crazy2:

The front page has been updated - sorry I have been behind!!

Ok-- kitten pics--

This was stinker when he was about 2 weeks. You can see his umbilical cord was still on. We'd had him since day 1 I think.

Good Thursday morning everyone.

Graduation Day today

I have just enought time to post and then I have to eat breakfast and then dress. I have to iron my robe (yes we are wearing robes this year) and also do my nails. I then have to drive to school to school sign in and then drive to the graduation site (which is the college in the town I live in :confused3. They wouldn't let me just drive to site, I asked. It could be worse one teacher lives on the campus with her husband who is on staff)

Question of the Day

232323232fp733_3_nu7738_63_257_WSNRCG33763_4763348nu0mrj1.jpg

This is from my last trip to DW. It was only dh and I on this trip. We found these guys alone in AK in the back so we stopped. Who is your favorite character?

Have a happy and healthy day.

Have fun at graduation today Dona. That would be so neat to see a different group of kids graduate every year. I'm going to have to think about the QOTD.

I had a nice long reply typed out yesterday but lost it!

Pam, great idea with the veggie stock!

Amanda, I enjoyed your photo album!

Buffy, great quote yesterday!

Kaiti, what do you mean Emily is not nice!!?;):laughing: I don't usually watch shows like that either but watched the first one since in Charlotte and got HOOKED!

Jayne, cute kitties!

Carol, DS is also a Life Scout. He has 8 badges to go to get Eagle. He is working on 2 Eagle required this Summer and will hopefully get 5 regular badges at camp. He should be up to 20 by this Fall but will still need 3 more Eagle required. He is down to the ones that aren't offered at camp.

Hello to everyone else! I am off to work- have a great day all!!

:eek::mad::sad1::scared:

Things just can't seem to go smoothly in my life these days. Brian abruptly lost his job last night! He is so upset and stressed. He just came to bed about an hour ago up trying to make contacts, update his resume and try and make it so we can still get our email. It's too late to cancel our trip at this point and I think it would kill us to have to do that. I contacted a former co-worker of his right away who texted him and he will hopefully be able to talk with tomorrow. He is in a training all day tomorrow. He isn't getting paid tomorrow and is owed a ton of vacation/comp time, etc. He just doesn't know what to do. He is totally beside himself right now and just can't be comforted. He'll be contacting unemployment office today and the guy in charge is contacting the AG's office to see what can be done to get paid.

This couldn't come at a worse time! Hopefully he will make some strong contacts today. He did have someone on FB tell him to contact him as he may have something for him as they are firing someone else. Brian doesn't have the exact knowledge of computer stuff but the guy said that he would worry about that another time!

I've got to deal with work today for 3 clients. 2 later this morning and 1 tonight.

I am not going to stress eat or drink like I have done in the past. It's not worth it. I have my protein bars ready for lunch and I will drink lots of water. I am getting a pedicure by a new nail tech we are hiring and getting my waxing done this morning. I will think positively and we will get through this! Just not the way I wanted to start my vacation.

TTFN :tigger:

Things just can't seem to go smoothly in my life these days. ...... I will think positively and we will get through this! Just not the way I wanted to start my vacation.

TTFN :tigger:

:grouphug: Congrats on the protein bars! IT's times like these that send me into a feeding frenzy....now I use that stress to fuel my workouts! Keep your eyes on your health and encouraging dh...something will come along...hopefully some type of severance or at least pay for his unused vacation will work out. And, YES, take that vacation!! IT will be much needed and help with the worries so much! :)

Well, I have managed to walk 30 miles 2 weeks in a row...saw very minimal loss last week so hoping my body is used to the new schedule..I can tell my clothes are much looser...just need to keep it up until the next measure at the next month, I bet I'll lose more inches than I have pounds! I sure do like to see that scale move, though!

My favorite character would have to be Goofy!!! He's just Gawrrrsh special! :)

Hope everyone stays strong today, only one more day to weigh in!! :yay:

You're so dang smart Pamela. I love the veggie stock idea!!

More like a little smart and a LOT cheap!:thumbsup2

Yesterday, I only ate once and I didn't even track it. We went to BJ'S Brewery for the first time. I had a mini pizza and a garden salad with a brownie al mode. OYE!

We checked out Babies R Us (baby fever sucks, LOL) and went to Books A Million and I bought "PCOS For Dummies" "Low Carb Dieting For Dummies", Bob Harper's new book (my 30 pounds lost reward to myself), and a Week By Week Pregnancy book (just in case I need it at some point in the future, LOL).

By the time we got home it was almost 6pm. I started reading the PCOS book and dosed off and woke up around 9 when my cell went off. Then I was up til 2am catching up on FB, Sparkpeople, etc and waiting for a headache to go away.

We FINALLY have gorgeous weather today and I'm planning on swimming later for my cardio workout. Alan's making chicken fettucine alredo and a veggie for dinner. I had a peanut butter sandwich, banana, and string cheese for lunch. Today will definately be back on track.

I'm learning more about PCOS with the "PCOS For Dummies" book. I've found out other symptoms I have that I hadn't read about anywhere else. Going to get a list of questions wrote out for the reproductive endo on Monday.

Toodles

GREAT idea to have a list of questions with you!

DS is also doing out island adventure. We have 4 crews going from our troop. Maybe I would be less anxious if DH was also going. I worry about sharks, drowning, spiders, critters and all kinds of things! If it was ME going I would not worry at all;). I also worry that each crew has 2 adults that are men except for ours, we have one man and one woman. Oh I'm just an old worry wart!!!

Our troop is on the wait list for Philmont next Summer. They say we have a good chance to get in. I hope DS gets to go. These adventures are expensive but priceless

Shawnprincess:

Try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know. But try to imagine how much FUN DS will have and the amazing learning and maturing and growing experience it will be! :hug: for the worried momma.

WOW! THat is one of the biggest HH participants list I have ever seen! WTG everyone and SUPER THANKS to CC for hosting this part of our challenges!

Favorite outdoor activity? Probably biking!

Another quick post today, I'm beat.

Got up and did 30DS again today. I really had to force myself and almost quit at the beginning but I made it.

SO PROUD OF YOU!!

I've been busy with my new job. I am really enjoying it. There are only 4 employees including me and they are very nice so it's going smoothly. I'm starting to get into the routine. It's nice to make some money, finally!!

Came across a book called Ultra Marathon Man: Confessions of an all-night runner by Dean Karnazes. It's pretty interesting so far but I'm only 2 chapters in.

Hope you all have a great night!!

Glad that the new job sounds enjoyable!

T
I enjoy a lot of outside activities. I run/walk outside. We like to take the boys on hikes and go geocaching. The kids like to ride their bikes and we walk/run along trails. We also enjoy camping and kayaking. My family loves water parks. There is one that's about 45 minutes away and if it didn't cost so much, we'd go more. We also love to go to zoos. We usually have a family membership at Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. It let's us go to a bunch of reciprocal zoos. One year we hit Pitts, Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus (OH). We also have a couple small petting farms/animal parks close to us that we try to visit.

Wish we had stuff like that closer. Nearest zoo I believe is either in Maine or RI and nearest aquarium is Boston.... and believe me, we have done that one to DEATH! ..... actually, in thinking about it, there are a few zoos in the Boston area.... only been to one of them and was NOT impressed (Stone Zoo). And there is a small zoo in the town where DH grew up (Capron Park Zoo), but we haven't taken the kids there in probably 8-10 years.

I absolutely loved swimming. I created quite a bond with the others on the team (since you're with them all the time). You are super lucky to have such great kids, even when you feel like you spend the whole day in the car

It is quite a BONDING team sport. Probably because you spend SO MUCH TIME sitting on the pool deck waiting for your event! We are REALLY LUCKY to have gotten hooked up with a GREAT team. We have been to other events with big teams that don't even seem to LIKE each other. Our kids consider each other FAMILY.... even through the different age groups!

DSis just got all attitudey (made that word up) with me about how she can't believe I'm driving DS9 40 minutes away for archery camp this week. So I got all attitudey back and told her that it's something that makes him happy, it is not offered any closer to us, and I'd drive further if I needed to. You're right, I am so grateful for my kids.

My Mom gets like that sometimes.... I think that she thinks I am NUTS to do all of the driving that I do.... but I'm glad that I am able. I'm glad that I can take the time and I can AFFORD to do it.... and that my kids are healthy and smart and WANT to do these activities! Glad I'm not the only parent who feels that way!:thumbsup2

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ugh...DS6 just finished his antibiotic for strep on Monday and I think he has it again! He was fine this morning. While DS9 was at camp, DS6 and I went to an animal rescue. We checked out all the dogs first and found 2 we want :) (DH would divorce me~one dog and one cat is enough for him). Then we went to the cat area. They have 7 rooms of cats that you can go into and play. We also found 2 cats we want lol.
Well, DS6 was fine during all the animal visiting. But, I noticed around 5:00 that he was laying on our couch under a blanket and not wanting dinner. I took his temp and it was 101.1. And, he sounds streppy now (his voice always sounds funny when he gets it). So, I think we'll be calling the pediatrician and trying to get a throat swab tomorrow. He freaks when he needs to get swabbed, so I would rather DH take him, but he's at clinicals until 3.
Then, the boys are in a Flag Day ceremony at 6:00 tomorrow for scouts. I'm thinking DS6 won't be in the ceremony now.
Oh geez~sorry for all the rambling!
I'll be checking in sometime tomorrow, then I may not be able to be on too much Friday or Saturday. Have a great night.
Jill
Aww.... sorry about the suspected strep. What a PITA! If he does have it again, they may want to check other family members to see if anyone is a carrier.
QOTD - I LOVE outdoor activities. Usually running or walking the trails. Our town has the rails to trails program, where all the old railways are now biking trails. They did them a few years ago and they are really nice. I don't have to worry about uneven surfaces or anything like that. It also feels very safe I don't really about running on my own. It's also walking distance from my house, and i have three more entrances less than 2 miles from my house. I really enjoy hiking as well and would love to bike but i ran over my bike a few years ago and can't afford a new one!
Pamela The one thing I did really like about that documentray is that while juicing does not necessarily teach you good healthy eating habits is that guy did practice good healthy eating habits after he lost the weight so that was good. Did you make the pumpkin oatmeal yourself? I love pumpkin! That sounds so good!
Well... if he was practicing good healthy eating habits, he had to LEARN them somewhere.... so I'm guessing he did some reading and research. And as you mentioned he was "PRACTICING" good habits.... and we all know it takes LOTS of practice to get this healthy eating thing established!!
Yup.... the pumpkin oatmeal is really easy. I've been working on tweaking the amount of pumpkin for a while and finally threw caution to the wind yesterday and did about a 50/50 mix of steel cut oats and canned pumpkin and it was just perfect! Sometimes I use real brown sugar, but yesterday I used Splenda and just a splash of unsweetened almond milk and it was really good! I also topped it with just a bit of cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg. BTW.... I just added warmed canned pumpkin to the already cooked oatmeal..... but I'm wondering if it would work to add canned pumpkin to the crockpot when I make the overnight steel cut oats??
I started my new job today and it went really well. It's at the Harriet Beecher Stowe house and i will be a tour guide, but today being the first day i didn't have to do any of that. Everyone seems really friendly and happy and it seems like a relaxed atmosphere. It's such a change from Petsmart where everyone hates their job and is miserable, people here really seem to like their job. And it seems like if you follow basic rules they are quite leinent about most things. You get quite a bit of down time where you can read and my boss even said "Everyone falls asleep at this job at least once, it's cool don't worry about it." This is EXACTLY the kind of atmosphere i need. I'm big on customer service but i also like feeling relaxed at my job, and like i can actually enjoy my day.
I also love the fact that its historical. I learned so much in one day! The houses and grounds are just beautiful, i LOVE that era and it just makes me want to live there. It's not necessarily an aspect of history i'm overly interested in but i'm eager to learn! I'd be more at home with WWII Era European stuff, or British History, but it's nice to have well rounded history backround. They also change their tours with the seasons (they even have a ghost tour) and I'm hoping this job will last past the summer (that's the impression i get) so this might turn out to be a good thing. There is also room to move into the musuem education department working with school groups which is actually the field i want to go into if the whole teaching thing falls through so that would be super amazing.
Who knows, it could turn out to be worse than i thought, but i got a good vibe, and i was really surprised by how relaxed and friendly everyone seemed. Also i'm training with another girl so i'm not like the only new person and she seems nice.
Today was someone's last day and they had a big cake from this really popular italian bakery and i declined a piece. I said lactose intolerance as the reason but i didn't want the extra calories as well. Cake is a weak point for me so i was proud.
Although when i came home i just wanted to eat everything, and i'm having a hungry night. No one made dinner so i just made some soup but it wasn't great.. i'm going to try some fruit to satisfy my hunger cravings i hope that will help. I had sushi for lunch so i'm not sure why i feel so hungry!
The new job sounds great! What city is it in??? I would LOVE to do a job like that. Wish I had something closer. I did a summer program at Old Sturbridge Village as a teenager (grew up in Sturbridge) and it was wonderful! I loved wearing the historic costume and "playing pretend" that I lived back then! Other than the lack of indoor plumbing and central heat, it sounds like fun.... kind of....:rolleyes: But I really enjoy the HISTORY!
Good job saying NO to the cake.... especially if it is something you really enjoy.
I'm trying to figure out a time to see someone just to get the blood workup, although we wonder if it was really a deer tick. I don't have the rash, but have joint pain and headaches - but joint pain isn't that odd with my joints, and headaches could be due to the heavy work load since my coworker is out on vacay.
PLEASE don't delay. If you even remotely suspect something is wrong, PLEASE get an appointment soon. Many things can be treated and cured so much easier with faster diagnosis and treatment!! PROMISE ME you will make an appointment today for within the next 7 days!!
I might try an apple with a little bit of PB - the protein might make it a bit filling. I use to eat apples regularly and is seemed to be true about keeping the doctor away!
I love apples too....always have. I do generally eat an apple every day. When I really reduced my carbs last spring that is one thing I really missed! I love berries and such, but I missed the crunch of an apple.
I was wondering about Jen myself after she had to stop to take care of her DS. I hope all is going well. I am concerned about Ash as well - there was an issue with her blog and she was feeling very down the last I read - was hoping she might show up here.
Jen did post about her DD condition and basically (trying to remember here), it was a pre-existing heart defect from birth that hadn't fully healed up yet. They weren't concerned about it being more serious and it didn't seem like it was going to require anything other than continued monitoring.
Can't comment on the other issue.
I don't do the tweets or the MFP either (I can barely keep up with WW and this challenge!). I got on FB because I there were something I wanted to see, but most of my old friends don't seem to have joined, and I friended a few but got bored...I prefer email and boards like this.
ME TOO!!
I'm just amazed that you do so much! It would be nice if my house was as immaculate as yours must be! Even though you say it is messy, I have trouble keeping up with pack rat DH!
It is FAR from immaculate! I try hard, but I live with three slobs. DH used to be the worst, but now it is DD. DH has improved a bit over the years (probably to keep from me nagging him!). But thank GOD he is NOT a packrat (other than garage stuff like tools). I spend FAR TOO MUCH TIME just picking up after them all! How can you possibly drop your shirt and socks RIGHT NEXT TO THE HAMPER instead of IN the hamper???!! How can you eat a snack/drink and just walk away from the cup/plate.... and apparently not see it for hours??
That said, I'm GREAT at picking up and straightening and organizing (clutter makes me crazy).... but not so good at deep cleaning. My mom is just the opposite. YOu could probably eat off her kitchen floor.... but her kitchen table might hold 4 sloping stacks of junk mail and papers! I would have those paper GONE, but my kitchen floor??? Not so much!:rotfl:
I have had some issues this week too, as well as some really hungry days. Still OP, but used up a good many of my splurge points. Exercising has fallen by the wayside. Maybe now that my coworker is back it will be a little better - of course, in a week we may (or may not, depending on DH schedule) be on a trip to see family. That is always hard to work into a plan.
I grew up swimming in a lake about a mile from my home, went with my friends all the time. When I was a teenager they started talking about how dirty our lake was from all the sewage being dumped in by the lakeside homes :( Geez...needless to say, I didn't go swimming in there after that, and I don't really want to be in lakes anymore...
I heard that about the lake we swam in a lot as kids.... makes me feel kind of :sick: But I suppose if I made it to this age, it couldn't have been too bad!
Well, it is a little later than I thought. Think I'll close this one up for the night and write more next time.
Have a good night all!
Carol
Watch out for those community college courses - they become addicting. I took several over the last couple of years. Mostly landscape design, which I then discovered the Intro to Perennials, Intro to shrubs, Intro to trees, graphic design?? Shrubs 2, trees 2, Master Gardener classes. And all I realized is, as my knowledge of planting materials grew - so did the budget costs!!! Oh did I mention the photography classes??
I took a few classes after DH and I got married and really enjoyed them. Maybe I'll dive into it again after the kids are off to college! Your classes sound like so much fun!!
It wasn't me that called my dress dated - that was someone else. I happen to love my dress and veil, mine is also preserved and in a big box. I told DS he could use the material to make a christening gown for any future grandchildren. He rolled his eyes at me.
Sorry.... that was me. But in my defense I did NOT say DATED. I just said that it looked "of the time" and it did..... because it was SUPPOSED TO! Just like 20 years from now the strapless blinged out dresses all of the girls are wearing now will look "of the time." Heck, my 1992-era gown was long-sleeved (in May no less).... and you can hardly even find gowns with STRAPS now, never mind SLEEVES! I really wasn't trying to be negative or mean or anything. It was a beautiful dress and veil (particularly loved the flowers too). And mine is preserved in a big box as well.... and I sincerely doubt DD will ever wear it. When I was married my MOm cut up her long-preserved wedding gown to make me a purse for my wedding day.... and I may do something similar for DD.
Sorry if I hurt any feelings!!!:flower3:
DH and DS will be going to Philmont in 2014. DS just became a Life Scout, has 3 more Eagle required badges to go, which he will finish off this summer at camp. So he should be an Eagle scout by next spring. It will be a nice trip for the 2 of them before DS goes off to college.
Has he chosen his Eagle Scout project??
I hope everyone's well - I have been so busy. I leave the house at noon, and return at midnight. I am so ready for retirement!!! I am planning my DF 80th birthday party, bringing him to his doctors appointments - he is going to need cataract surgery soon. But the doctors that see the elderly - if I ever got out of the office in under 2 hours I would be shocked. 3 hours at the eye doctor Tuesday.
The front page has been updated - sorry I have been behind!!
Janis
Makes me all the more grateful that my parents and my DMIL still drive and can do all of that stuff themselves!
No worries about being behind.... we just appreciate the time you take!
Ok-- kitten pics--
This was stinker when he was about 2 weeks. You can see his umbilical cord was still on. We'd had him since day 1 I think.
this is pretty li'l Shasta :
THey are so adorable. Of course, I'm a cat person.... sucker for a cute kitten any day!!
Good Thursday morning everyone.
Graduation Day today
I have just enought time to post and then I have to eat breakfast and then dress. I have to iron my robe (yes we are wearing robes this year) and also do my nails. I then have to drive to school to school sign in and then drive to the graduation site (which is the college in the town I live in. They wouldn't let me just drive to site, I asked. It could be worse one teacher lives on the campus with her husband who is on staff)
Congratulations on another graduation!
Question of the Day
This is from my last trip to DW. It was only dh and I on this trip. We found these guys alone in AK in the back so we stopped. Who is your favorite character?
Have a happy and healthy day.
First off.... CUTE PICTURE!
Can't say.... but I will stop for ANY character that has a short line! I do try to find the newer ones at each visit.... and there are definitely some "classic" characters that I have yet to meet (Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters are on my "must meet" list!). I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE character meetings! I think I could be nearly content with a full day of just character meet and greets and no rides!
If I was under fire and absolutely HAD to pick a favorite.... probably Ariel.
Pam, great idea with the veggie stock!
Carol, DS is also a Life Scout. He has 8 badges to go to get Eagle. He is working on 2 Eagle required this Summer and will hopefully get 5 regular badges at camp. He should be up to 20 by this Fall but will still need 3 more Eagle required. He is down to the ones that aren't offered at camp.
Hello to everyone else! I am off to work- have a great day all!!
Shawnprincess:
Thanks.... and that is neat about so many boys involved with scouting. Wish DS could have gotten into it a bit more. It just didn't seem to be his "thing." HOpe the work day goes well!
Things just can't seem to go smoothly in my life these days. Brian abruptly lost his job last night! He is so upset and stressed. He just came to bed about an hour ago up trying to make contacts, update his resume and try and make it so we can still get our email. It's too late to cancel our trip at this point and I think it would kill us to have to do that. I contacted a former co-worker of his right away who texted him and he will hopefully be able to talk with tomorrow. He is in a training all day tomorrow. He isn't getting paid tomorrow and is owed a ton of vacation/comp time, etc. He just doesn't know what to do. He is totally beside himself right now and just can't be comforted. He'll be contacting unemployment office today and the guy in charge is contacting the AG's office to see what can be done to get paid.
This couldn't come at a worse time! Hopefully he will make some strong contacts today. He did have someone on FB tell him to contact him as he may have something for him as they are firing someone else. Brian doesn't have the exact knowledge of computer stuff but the guy said that he would worry about that another time!
I've got to deal with work today for 3 clients. 2 later this morning and 1 tonight.
I am not going to stress eat or drink like I have done in the past. It's not worth it. I have my protein bars ready for lunch and I will drink lots of water. I am getting a pedicure by a new nail tech we are hiring and getting my waxing done this morning. I will think positively and we will get through this! Just not the way I wanted to start my vacation.
TTFN
OH NO!! HUGE and continuing prayers going up for you and Brian! You WILL get through this.... and hopefully you can both relax and enjoy the vacation without worrying too much. Is Brian part of "Linked In"?? It is kind of like a FB for work connections. Tell him to get himself set up with it. DH can't believe how many connections he has made and can make for others with everyone on there. What is Brian's line of work??
***************
Well... Cloudy Thursday to everyone! The sun was shining brightly when I arose at 6 am, but it is totally cloudy now! :sad2:
DD and I are heading to the Y this morning.... she wants to get in a bit of extra swim practice and she wants to teach me some lap swimming.....thinks I might like it??! I doubt it, but I'll try it once for her. But she needs to rise and shine.... my folks will be here at noon and I have a lot of picking up and cleaning I need to do before then! DS was supposed to vacuume the WHOLE HOUSE last night.... and he did NONE Of it. :mad:
I've had my coffee and emptied the dish drainer.... but I can't vac until folks are up! Guess I'll eat and then wake DD. It is her first day of summer vacation.... not sure WHY she wanted to get up early and go to the Y!:confused3
I probably won't be on the rest of today and tonight with my folks here and DS's graduation tonight. So I'll see you tomorrow!..............P
Hello everyone! I’m just wanted to jump on and introduce myself. I’m Beth 32 and from SC. I’m finally in the right mind set to start losing weight and thought this might be something good to help me on my journey to a healthier me.
Good morning all!
Enjoying the first day of summer here. It is so nice just to take a bit of time and hang out on the computer and not be thinking of uniforms or lunches. I will actually get to work sooner because DS will wake up long after I've left for work. His summer program starts next week so I should enjoy this while I can.
And remember, Disney food has no calories
Yay! I did not know that! :lmao: Thanks!
Jen, congrats on hitting the 160's! :cool1:
Question of the day: What do you like to do outside? Is is biking hiking or even water parks?
Running, of course, and I really enjoy just hanging outside with a cool drink and enjoying the sunshine. :beach: Still waiting for summer to arrive in this neck of the woods. :rolleyes1
Pamela, hope your DD enjoys her first day of summer and enjoy the 8th grade graduation ceremony tonight! :flower3: Loved the veggie stock recipe!
When it's not terribly sweaty hot outside I do love hiking and biking, although I need a new bike. When it is sweaty hot I want to be at the beach :beach: or even a pool, just need to have water around to cool off in!
Lynda, you may be amazed how the technology has changed for new bikes. DH just got one and it makes my old bike look like a clunker! :rotfl:
Quote of the day
Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.” - David McCullough
Thanks for always finding the perfect quote to go with the QOTD, Buffy! :thanks:
I had my WW weigh in this morning (I am doing it at home, so it is my scale at home:) ), and since last Wednesday, I am down 2.8 pounds!!! Woooohoooooo!!!!
Yay you! :yay:
I would really love to start taking up running, just a little nervous to be seen in public doing so.
Once you are out running you stop thinking about what other people may be thinking. :flower3:
Kristina, hope your doctor has some good ideas for you and can answer all your questions. :goodvibes
for earning 5/5 points! Way to go!
Congratulations to all our HH participants -- look at all those folks with all 5 points! :cool1:
And thank you, too, to our lovely HH hostess, CC! :thanks:
DSis just got all attitudey (made that word up) with me about how she can't believe I'm driving DS9 40 minutes away for archery camp this week. So I got all attitudey back and told her that it's something that makes him happy, it is not offered any closer to us, and I'd drive further if I needed to. You're right, I am so grateful for my kids.
Isn't it fun how you are never to old to push your siblings buttons?!? ;)
Trina, glad that you are enjoying your new job! :goodvibes
Carol, glad to hear that your co-worker is back so you can back into your usual routine! :flower3:
Janis, you were a beautiful bride! Your hair and your bouquet were very similar to mine, even though I was married 5 years later. :bride:
Susan, I absolutely loved the kitty pics! :love: You are such a good kitty mama!
Dona, enjoy graduation day! :thumbsup2
Question of the DayThis is from my last trip to DW. It was only dh and I on this trip. We found these guys alone in AK in the back so we stopped. Who is your favorite character?
M-I-Cee . . .K-E-Yii M-O-U-S-EEE :smickey:
Shawn, darn that poof fairy! :tinker:
Tracey, so sorry to hear about Brian's job situation. :hug:
Well, I have managed to walk 30 miles 2 weeks in a row...saw very minimal loss last week so hoping my body is used to the new schedule..I can tell my clothes are much looser...just need to keep it up until the next measure at the next month, I bet I'll lose more inches than I have pounds! I sure do like to see that scale move, though!
Wow! Great job on the mileage! :cool1: I'm sure the scale will get with the program very soon now. ::yes::
Have a great day all!
This is from my last trip to DW. It was only dh and I on this trip. We found these guys alone in AK in the back so we stopped. Who is your favorite character?
I have 2 favorites, Belle and Prince Naveen! I've always love the movie Beauty and the Beast, but ever since we took my DSD to Disneyland for the first time, Belle has been my favorite. My DSD (dressed as Cinderella) was in AW of the Princesses at the meet and greet, but she had a 20 min conversation with Belle and it was PRICELESS! Belle was attentive and super sweet. We have a picture of the 2 of them, Belle and "Princess Cinderella Kira" (which is how my DSD introduced herself to Belle) and the eye contact those 2 had made me speechless. Prince Naveen became a favorite when we were in Disney World doing the Princess and the Frog meet n greet. My DS was scared of the characters and so I was holding him off to the side while my DSD got her picture taken. Prince Naveen took extra time to come over to meet DS in a very calm manner, because he had to meet the only boy that he'd ever seen wearing a shirt with only him and no Tiana on it. It was the only picture with a character that my DS wasn't crying in from that trip. :love:
OMG, Tracey, I am so sorry about Brian's job! That must feel like a punch in the gut. I hope the leads pan out, and I especially hope that you'll be able to leave the stress behind when you step on the boat. I'm so, so sorry. :hug:
I'm way behind this week - work and the last week of school have absolutely snowed me! DD7 hyperextended her knee a little at gymnastics yesterday, and DD5 has inexplicably started having potty accidents (both day and night) after 2 1/2 years of being potty trained. :confused: But the weather is beautiful, we leave a week from tomorrow on vacation, and I'm inhaling pink, exhaling blue.
I've been keeping up with exercise, and I've only had a couple of food slips, which, thanks to the exercise, don't seem to have hurt me. *whew*
QOTD season - I am a summer baby, through and through. Spring makes me impatient for summer, and I can't stand winter. I do like fall - those first crisp mornings when I can bust out sweaters and jeans again. But I am a summer girl!
QOTD outdoor activity - I'm a new runner, and that's my favorite. I also like biking, but I haven't done it at all yet this season! Where is my time going... I'm not a hiker, climber, etc. at all. Camping? No, thanks. Remember Melman in Madagascar (the first) - "Aaahhh! Nature! Get it off!" <---me. :rotfl:
Off to DD7's last parent-teacher conference, then out to lunch with DH. I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed... and my mom arrives tomorrow for the weekend. :)
XO
Liz
Oh, QOTD today! :) I have a feeling I'm going to love Merida when we meet her this summer. Longer-standing characters, though...I like Belle and Mulan, and I will forever love Minnie for hugging then-DD2 so close and pretending she was going to take her home with her. It was an adorable moment!
Question of the Day
This is from my last trip to DW. It was only dh and I on this trip. We found these guys alone in AK in the back so we stopped. Who is your favorite character?
Well obviously Bernard and Bianca but I have to travel to France to see them. I wish they were in the France Pavilion.
I can't pic one specific Character though. We have great memories attached to multiple characters.
Goofy when he spent a ton of times with the boys messing around.
Stitch when he played with DS11's mohawk last summer.
Beast when he stood way behind DD because she was scared of him but still managed to photobomb the picture so he was in it.
Mary Poppins, DS15's first crush
But my favorite was this one:
sweeps_2.jpg
The kids were dressed as sweeps for the Halloween party and we had breakfast at 1900 but Mary for some reason was not there. We went to Guest Services at MK and asked if there was any way we could see Mary at Cinderella's. They snuck us up there between breakfast and Lunch to take some pics. The CM that brought us up asked if we were coming back any time soon and we said yes, at Christmas. She said perfect! Bring the boys costumes and come back for the parade, Bert and Mary will be dressed for the Sweeps scene in the movie. OK awesome!!
So we come back and we watch the parade back in Liberty Square. Alice breaks character and leaves her dance routine to drag Bert over to meet the boys. After the parade we went back up to Guest Services and asked if there was any possible way we could meet Bert because for some reason they had a 12:00 parade and a 3:00 parade. We figured they would stay in costume until the 2nd parade was over.
They took us back to this little room and we waited and waited. Well here comes Mary and Bert!! We probably spent an hour with them talking about the movie and the costumes etc. After they left, we were told to stand in a special spot near the barber shop for the 2nd parade. Bert, Mary, all the walking characters came up during the parade and were handing out High Fives and hugs. It was awesome!!!
Best disney moment ever!!
So, Quote of the day:
It's so important to make someone happy. Start with yourself
Because we all know characters make us happy!! But we have to get out there and meet them to make it happen.
Tracey I'm so sorry to hear about Brian's job. That is so sad.
Was there a reason? I can't believe they just laid him off like that.
You better fight for that vacation and comp pay!!
Take the trip, you guys need it.
I hope something better comes along soon!
Trina I'm glad you like your new job! It sounds like a blast.
Jayne adorable kitties! They found a great home.
QOTD: Fav character?
I LOVE Mary Poppins & Snow White. However, at the park, I am thrilled to see any of the characters. Love the magic!
QOTD: Fav character?
This is a really tough one for me. As a little girl my go to would be sleeping beauty. I was in awe of her and would watch the movie over and over. I also really like anyone from Alice in wonderland. When we went to DL for DH bday last year we actually got to meet the white rabbit. It was great he was running all over main street looking at a watch and we had to chase him down to get a picture. I loved the fact that he was so in character and that it just added to the magic.
