Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Good morning losers!:goodvibes

Dona, did your DS's ever go to Sea Base in the Fla Keys with BSA? My DS is going this August. I am getting scared just thinking about it; I will be a nervous wreck that week.

Shawnprincess:

Shawn,
My ds and dh went to Sea Base. Which adventure is your son doing because there are several. My ds and dh did Out Island Adventure. They kayaked out to an island and lived there for several days. They had a guide for the entire time there. They were checked for swimming ability and could use a dive vest to help with flotation when there were snorkeling. I hope your son loves sea food because whatever they catch they eat.

DS and dh loved it. They slept on the beach (hope for breezes to keep away the bugs) and had a great time.

I was less worried about that adventure than Philmont which is much more strenuous.

He should have a good time.

Maybe I wasn't as worried about them because they went with another father and son and his wife and daughter and my younger son and I camped in Fort Wilderness and visited the parks.

S
My favorite seasons are fall and winter. These are also the ones that are easiest for me to lose weight. I find that I make more home cooked meals this time of year than during summer. Our apartment just gets to hot to cook in during summer, so there are not as many options that I am willing to cook.

Just a thought, but how about using your crockpot? It doesn't heat up the kitchen as much and is much easier than "real" cooking.

Congrats Christopher and all the losers!! What an awesome start to this challenge.

I agree!!

This past weekend was kind of tough for me because my DH took me to DL on Sunday since my bday is Friday and we knew that it was going to be packed with the opening of cars land. I splurged and had a hot fudge sundae, however I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped on the scale on Monday and was down .2. Must have been all the water that we were drinking!

Lucky!!

I think i'm doing ok so far this week. I've done some sort of physical activity 3 days in a row, 2 runs and 1 walk, and yesterday i did my 5 mile run in the morning and then made my boyfriend go with a walk in the afternoon (just about a mile, but I wanted HIM to do a walk). Turns out he had already done a HUGE walk that day. I'm trying to inspire him to get healthy and i think its slowly working. We watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead the other day and it was amazing and inspiring to both of us, and I hope it really opened his eyes. He's not obese by any means, but i can see him ending up that way if he continues on the path he's on.

It was a very interesting documentary! I watched it a few years ago. Not sure that I totally agree with everything (doing nothing but juicing for extended periods of time doesn't TEACH you anything about healthy eating and portion control), but I was impressed and amazed at how he healed himself naturally.... and I LOVE that he paid it forward and helped that other guy!

I do juice on occasion.... I go through spurts of doing it more and less. I have never done a total juice fast though. I was going to try it, but I ended up so shaky with low blood sugar that I didn't make it through a full day!

So anyways, trying to keep up with at least 30 minutes of cardio every day, and then running every other day. I had to force myself to go today because yesterdays run was long and hard but I did it anyways. It was a little hot a buggy but i think the dogs enjoyed it, especially since i can't take them running anymore cause they just can't keep up.

Eating wise i've been doing ok. Not tracking everything, but trying to be better. I'm trying to focus on bigger breakfasts, because i find myself getting so hungry before lunch. My other goal is to stop late night eating. Second suppers are not the answer. I also want to try to go to bed earlier, since my sleep habits are getting all out of whack again. So I would say i'm not so much focused on the weight, but healthy habits that will lead to the weight loss.

I need to work on the evening eating as well...not so much "late night", as I am not a night owl, but those 8-9 pm heavy snacks need to go!

I went grocery shopping today, got some stuff for smoothies, since i want to start trying that for lunch and such. Also fruits and veggies and some other things. I think it was a succedful trip. I got papaya to put in a smoothie, because i heard it helps with stomach issues and boy do i have those! I'll be honest i had no idea what a papaya looks like so i was a bit confused but i think i got the right fruit! The girl at the register had no idea! I don't even know what a papaya tastes like! Just trying new things!

I buy papaya for smoothies and juicing! And usually I have to tell the check-out clerk at the store what it is. The inside is orangy and fleshy..... seeds are small and black and plentiful. I think it is a pretty fruit inside but DD thinks that the seeds look like bugs. :crazy2: Make sure it is really ripe.... it isn't a particularly sweet fruit so it must be ripe to be at its tastiest. Far less sweet than mango and softer than melon.

Papaya is very good for digestion. In fact, when I was growing up my mom kept papaya enzyme tablets in the house instead of Tums or Rolaids. It always helped.

Hope you enjoy it and GOOD FOR YOU for trying a new thing!

I have work tonight, which sucks because the skies are dark and rainy and i have a stomach ache and i would like nothing more than to nap in bed! I have about an hour before i have to leave so im going to relax with some tea and then force myself to go. Tomorrow is my first day of the new job! SO NERVOUS

BEST OF LUCK with the new job! You'll do great!

Glad to hear you're still enjoying the soup-even if not tonight lol. Hope you manage to stay sane;)

It wasn't so bad, although DS didn't make it to the field until just 15 minutes before game time (coach wants them there 45 minutes before). It was a lot of miles (figured it out to be about 100 miles by the time I got home), but I got to see all of DS's game and made it to pick up DD on time (although I had to drop her off 90 minutes ahead of practice time.... thank goodness she didn't have a lot of homework!).

Sadly, both kids ended up with Dunkin sandwiches on the way to their respective sports. Too much fat and too much money! I packed up a dinner to bring DH (who met me at DS's game), but totally forgot about myself. I stopped at Subway after DS's game and grabbed a breakfast english muffin melt with egg whites and avocado. Yummy and filling and just right. Just wish they offered something other than white bread english muffins and white bread flatbreads for the breakfast. A TRUE whole wheat muffin would be a nice option.

But your delicious soup has been RESCHEDULED for tonight! And it is a perfect day for soup.... cool and pouring rain!

QOTD - I love fall! The colors, the smells, the crisp air, bonfires, cool evenings.....mmmmm, I love it :)

I'm not doing so great this week. I want sugar and I'm craving all sorts of things that are not on my plan! I'm having some tea with honey right now, trying to satisfy my sweet craving. I think it's because my weight loss has slowed down, so I'm losing my drive and motivation to stick with the plan. Hoping tomorrow will be better.

Find a way to get that drive back! Promise yourself one weekend splurge (maybe a low fat frozen yogurt cone or a small baked good) if you stay totally OP for the remainder of the week! You will have that splurge to look forward to and maybe the cravings can wait!

Then find a way to work the weekend splurge into your daily/weekly calories/points so it doesn't put you over the edge.

My favorite season is fall. I love the cool, crisp air, pumpkins, apples, football, and the changing leaves. I know summer is usually my hardest time to lose weight because I'm off in the summer and I don't have a schedule. During the school year, I eat at scheduled times, so I get thrown off a little in the summer. Plus...we *occasionally* have ice cream for dinner. That's completely normal, right? ;)

I can remember doing this ONCE growing up! It was an enormous treat! (My Mom was a health-food person way before it was fashionable!) We were all on vacation together (we always vacationed with my aunt, uncle, and two cousins) and the parents took us to an legendary ice cream house that had a make-your-own sundae bar and that was dinner! For a kid who grew up with traditional ( and fairly healthy) family meals EVERY SINGLE NIGHT without fail, this was quite a novelty! Good for you for giving the family a treat once in a while..... but if it is rare, it will be all the more special!

Thanks. This yard sale is sucking up so much of my time this week. I hope it goes well. The boys are very excited for camp. It runs from 9:45-2:30. It's M-F, but I told them we'd go 3 days. I can walk to the park, but I doubt the kids will have any energy to walk back home!

Fingers crossed for great weather for both the yard sale AND camp!

Sounds yummy. Thanks for taking the time to do this!

You are welcome. It IS yummy! More than I thought it would be. The lettuce is a bit crunchy and buttery all at the same time. The texture is great.

I am exhausted. I need to get 8 hours of sleep tonight so I am going to head up to bed to read for a bit. I'll probably only read a page before I fall asleep.

I did my first workout with the Jeff Galloway 5k program tonight. I picked the program to increase my 5k time since I feel like I am in decent shape. I liked it. I am hoping to stick with it and still squeeze in circuit training and spinning. We'll see what the summer brings.

I'll try to check in tomorrow. I don't want to fall behind or I'll be 10 pages behind! And who knows if I will be able to check in Friday and Saturday. My mom doesn't have wireless internet, so I won't be able to pop in if there is a lull at the garage sale.

Hope everyone is doing well :)

Jill

Best of luck this weekend!

Ugh :headache::headache:
Not sure I can be anymore off plan today....I have ate junk all day!!! And am still HUNGRY
Has to be getting close to TOM because I could sit in front of the fridge with a spoon and be very happy :laughing:

And I was doing so good and hit the 160's today :mad:

Good news: my new bike came today :banana::banana: DH is going to put it together tomorrow so wish me luck!!!

Step away from the fridge and put DOWN the spoon! :lmao: I know how you feel. I've definitely had days/weeks like that! Like I just can't stop eating!

Enjoy the new bike!

Pamela~I forgot to mention that I tell my mom all the time how crazy they were for driving us (me and Dsis) all over for swimming. They gave up all their Saturdays to drive us as far as a few hours to sit in steamy pools! Luckily, I didn't swim after about age 12. So, they only had to give up 6 or 7 years of their lives.

I did try to encourage DS9 to try swimming, but he doesn't want to practice daily. I'm okay with that :)

I never knew when DD started this how it would change our lives. But honestly, I"m SO THRILLED that she has something that she loves so much that is so good for her, both mentally and physically. I wouldn't really change a thing (other than possibly moving us closer to the pool).

So many parents have to give up so much of themselves and their lives for kids problems..... mental problems that involve inpatient stays, psychiatric visits, medication issues..... physical issues that involve therapy, medical treatments, etc, etc. I am ETERNALLY grateful that the time I have to dedicate to my DD is for such a GREAT thing. I remind myself that this daily driving I do could be to visit her somewhere in a home or hospital.... or worse. I know I complain about the driving and such, but I try to remember how lucky I am.

Hey, just checking in. I haven't been keeping up the past few days.

I have had a hard time with motivation the past week or so. I have been doing my cardio in the form of C25K, Zumba and hiking but I have done zero strength training except for my once a week class. I just got home from the class and I am feeling much better about things. Much of the sets we do in the class I can do at home and I need to at least twice a week. Thursday and Saturday I will get out the resistance bands and weights.

As for the diet I started giving myself one high calorie meal a week so I gave myself a pass Friday night. Saturday for some reason I could just not get satisfied. Every time I ate I would be hungry again a half hour later. I didn't eat any junk but I ate more than I should have. The past two days I have really watched what I was eating and fell much better. I just hope I still have a loss this week even if it is .1 pound!

I still need to raise more money for the Wounded Warrior Project. If any one would like to donate the link is in my signature. TIA!

Have a great week everyone!

Sometimes I need to LET myself be hungry. Usually, if I can't seem to get satisfied, I have to realize that it isn't TRUE hunger, but something else.... boredom, stress, tired-ness, or even just THIRST. Hope the week proceeds on better.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.
Last day of exams today. I finally get to give one today. I have been cleaning my classroom, closets and file cabinets. I can't believe how organized everything is. I think I will even have an empty shelf in my closet when I get the books in. It has not been this clean since I moved in 11 years ago.

Good for you! I love walking into a clean, organized classroom... but it doesn't happen very often. I think that most teachers are SO overwhelmed by the quantity of papers, books, etc that they get and need to keep track of, that things get piled up pretty fast!

Question of the day
This is a picture of my dh from the last Boy SCout Jamboree (his friend took this picture). They worked the motocross activity for 2 weeks. Yes that is the size they ordered for the boys to ride.

It is also funny that camnhan mentioned that she just got a new bike.

What do you like to do outside? Is is biking hiking or even water parks?

Have a happy and healthy day.

Does sitting in the sun and reading count?? :) I love walking on the beach at low tide, enjoying the sunset and the breeze and finding sand dollars and such! I don't LOVE the ocean, but this is a part of it that I do enjoy!

Good morning losers!:goodvibes

When I am outside, I am usually walking or hiking. Love riding bikes too but have not done that as much since we moved back home. It is nice to just sit outside too if the weather is good.

Pamela, the lettuce wraps look great and so easy! Will be a nice alternative to tacos. Can't wait to try them. I don't actually work FT, I work 30 hours a week (close enough though!)

Hey.... you are a wife and mother.... you were ALREADY working full time!

Dona, did your DS's ever go to Sea Base in the Fla Keys with BSA? My DS is going this August. I am getting scared just thinking about it; I will be a nervous wreck that week.

Today I am taking a meal to my friend who just got out of the hospital Saturday. She was only supposed to have out patient surgery but the surgeon nicked her bowels causing an infection. She was in the hospital and in ICU for most of it for 18 days. I made her a meatload and roasted potatoes (her request). I sampled some of the potatoes and they were so good!

Time to get to work! Have a great day all!

Shawnprincess:

Nice of you and a good "comfort" meal to make for someone just home from the hospital. I LOVED the meals we got when DH was in the hospital. I didn't get to try all of them, bu my parents and the kids really appreciated everything! In fact, my DD still talks about the chicken and rice soup that someone brought.

Shawn,
My ds and dh went to Sea Base. Which adventure is your son doing because there are several. My ds and dh did Out Island Adventure. They kayaked out to an island and lived there for several days. They had a guide for the entire time there. They were checked for swimming ability and could use a dive vest to help with flotation when there were snorkeling. He should have a good time.

Maybe I wasn't as worried about them because they went with another father and son and his wife and daughter and my younger son and I camped in Fort Wilderness and visited the parks.

That really sounds like fun! I think DD would love something like that (other than eating the seafood).

*****************
Happy rainy Wednesday friends! Last day of junior year for DD! She is officially a SENIOR after today! That was truly the FASTEST 11 years of my LIFE!!

DS had a good time at the beach yesterday for their field trip. Despite the lack of sun most of the day, he still came home with sunburned arms and neck. He swam a bit, fished a bit, and played some games. Overall a far better day than one spent sitting in Social Studies! :thumbsup2

Did I mention he is doing the opening intro at tomorrow night's 8th grade graduation!?? Since he has been a dedicated part of the 7th/8th grade student council for two years and is one of just a few 8th graders ON the council, he got selected! And despite the late notice, my parents are going to make a brief 24 hour visit to be able to see the ceremony.

I had the most excellent bowl of pumpkin oatmeal this morning! Thanks to whoever mentioned pumpkin the other day! It was so delicious and satisfying.... almost like a pumpkin muffin in a bowl!

Well.... I got a load of laundry folded this morning while DS was dressing and everyone is out the door with breakfast and the kitchen is cleaned up. But that is all I can claim this morning so far! Off to fold MUCH MORE laundry, make beds, and shoot the vacuum around in anticipation of my parents' visit tomorrow!

I'll pop on again at lunch time................P

QOTD - Which season is easiest to lose weight?Definitely the summer when it is not and I am more likely to eat salads.

I have to say, this is my exact answer too :) Although Fall is probably my favorite season, summer seems to be the best time to lose weight because I am encouraged to eat salads. In the colder months, I crave warmer foods.

QOTD - what is your favourite outdoor activity?

When it's not terribly sweaty hot outside I do love hiking and biking, although I need a new bike. When it is sweaty hot I want to be at the beach :beach: or even a pool, just need to have water around to cool off in!

Non-fitness related, I love cook outs and camping. It's funny because I FREAK OUT over bugs (I try not to, but instinct takes over!!), but I do love to camp. ::yes::

Question of the day

I am sooo not an outdoor person! But I want to hike, and we do go camping in the RV, and we tend to hangout outside on the patio of where ever we camp.
I like to take pictures too, a lot of those are outside.

Question of the Day

In 6 months we will be going into to winter. Which season is your favorite? Is it easier for you to lose weight during a certain season? If so which one?

My favorite season is fall. I love the smells, the cool air, the apples, pumpkins, apple cider, I love it all!! :)

Enjoying keeping up with you - I am visiting NYC in 2 weeks and saw lots of shows on the Tonys I would like to see:banana: Good luck with your search.

Shawnprincess:

I would LOVE to see a show on broadway. We were in NYC for a day just a couple weeks ago, but we couldn't afford to go see a show, nor did we have the time. After watching the tonys, I would LOVE,LOVE,LOVE to see Newsies!! :)

Question of the day

What do you like to do outside? Is is biking hiking or even water parks?

I like to do my running outside, as long as it isn't too hot out. I love to sit outside and watch my kids run and play while I sit back with a good book or crocheting. I also love to play with them! :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had my WW weigh in this morning (I am doing it at home, so it is my scale at home:) ), and since last Wednesday, I am down 2.8 pounds!!! Woooohoooooo!!!!:cool1: Being in the challenge sure makes a difference, but I think the biggest help is DH, who is trying to do it with me. Super supportive, that is for sure. He is the best! :)
Going to the library with the kiddos today, and then to their swimming lessons. Hope you all have a great day!
That is a great loss! And so nice that you have such a supportive DH!
Afternoon friends! Well.... it took a while but I got all of the laundry folded and properly put away.... except the socks. I HATE pairing socks for some stupid reason! But I will do those maybe tonight before bed while I watch something mindless on tv.;)
Has anyone seen my kitchen broom? How does a broom go missing?:confused3 I haven't been able to sweep my kitchen for a few days and it is icky icky! I will vacuum it this afternoon, but I guess I'll need to stop tonight and buy a broom! I'm baffled at how it seems to have walked away! Good dustpan though, it stayed behind.:rotfl2:
Curried carrot soup is a GO for tonight! Got the veggies for it sauteeing away on the stove right now and I defrosted the veggie broth earlier this week (I make my own in big batches and freeze it). Need to figure out what to serve with it. I usually just serve it with cheese and crackers..... guess that will have to do for tonight, since it is another busy one! The kids will be thrilled to get regular white flour crackers for a change! I got a coupon for a free box of store brand "ritz" type crackers that I couldn't pass up, so I'm SURE that is what they will opt for tonight. oh well. DH and I will both skip the crackers and I will serve him a big wedge of regular cheddar cheese (one of the big benefits of a low carb diet), and I will enjoy a piece of Babybel light cheese.... or maybe even two.
DD's swim team is holding a mock meet tonight to help the new kids get prepared for the real thing. Of course, DD volunteered me to help! Well.... truth be told I was foolish enough to have her ASK if they needed help. :rolleyes2 Foolish lady.
And here we go.... today's TIP OF THE DAY:
Before peeling or chopping your organic veggies, always give them a good wash/rinse. Then save the peelings, cores, stems, leaves etc in the freezer in a large ziptop bag. When the baggie is full, dump it into your largest stock pot, cover it with water, add a few peppercorns and a bayleaf, and set it on high without a lid. When it comes to a full boil, turn it down a bit so that it stays at a slow boil (nearly a simmer) until water is reduced by at least 1/3. Cool, strain, and you have just made your own fat-free, salt-free, organic vegetable stock for soups and stews! And it was practically FREE!!
I"ve done this for a few years now and while I must admit that every batch tastes a bit different and is a different color (dependent upon what kinds of veggies and how much of each ends up in the batch.... you should have seen the batch made with purple cauliflower!!), I haven't had a bad batch yet. And once it is made into soup or stew, you wouldn't know the difference. I use onion skins, carrot peelings, celery leaves, the harder parts of broccoli and asparagus stems, cauliflower stems, outside leaves of cabbages, etc, etc. I usually just take care to trim off the very end of the stalks of things like broccoli and asparagus... the part that was exposed when I bought it. Other than that it doesn't matter much if it is tough or fiberous, as you won't be eating it. The one thing I don't usually throw in is tomatoes.
I specify ORGANICS here because otherwise the outside parts of most veggies is where the highest concentration of pesticides resides.... and no sense in making that into a pesticide stew! THat said, I will peel and save the stems of some non-organics like broccoli, cauliflower.
Not sure why I felt so compelled to share that..... just did. ::yes::
Good Tuesday morning everyone.
Question of the Day
P1040402.jpg
This is MacKenzie. She is my ds1's dog but she spends a lot of time with us since ds lives with us.
In 6 months we will be going into to winter. Which season is your favorite? Is it easier for you to lose weight during a certain season? If so which one?
Have a happy and healthy day.
Summer is my favorite season of all...the heat and humidity (yes, even the humidity!) are some of my favorite things. It's part of the reason I want to move to Florida...to experience more of it year-round! But summer means I usually gain more weight. I dont like to leave the house when it's cold out, so I am stuck to what's already in the house during the winter...which usually isn't much sometimes. But in the summer I go to more cookouts and parties and such.
By the way, HI SHAWN!! What part of NC are you in? I know you've said it on here, but I just can't remember
Hi kaiti! I live just South of Raleigh. Have you been watching The Bachelorette?
Ok, now I really need to get to work!
Shawnprincess:
I haven't....I don't usually watch those types of shows, and especially since eveyone around here who has ever been acquainted with Emily Maynard says she's not a very nice person, haha. Plus, there's just no enough time in the day to get started watching that show because I would never stop watching it!
Good Wednesday morning everyone.
Have a happy and healthy day.
I like to just be outside doing most anything, but especially sitting outside with a cold drink on a hot day :thumbsup2 I have really started to explore outside stuff more, like running outside instead of on a treadmill, and kayaking since the weather has been nicer.
I like to play tennis with my DH, even though I am not very good. I love to go over to my parents for BBQs and swim in the pool. I would really love to start taking up running, just a little nervous to be seen in public doing so.
Christopher: CONGRATS!
QOTD (seasons): My favorite season is summer. :beach: I love that I can get out and swim and exercise in the late evenings. I hate being cold.
QOTD (water): I love my swimming pool! I don't like getting into water that I can't see my feet in. I love going to Daytona or Cocoa Beach and sitting in my lounge chair listening to the waves crashing into the shore.
What do you like to do outside? Is is biking hiking or even water parks?
I like to swim and walk the parks at Disney World! I love having annual passes and just going and walking around and not even getting on rides. I love to just show up a few hours before Wishes and the parade, find a good spot, watch everything, and then leave the park. :)
Jill -- Good luck with the garage sale
Tracey -- I'm glad to see Izzie is getting better. Enjoy your vacation!
:)
Okay, I'll finish catching up later.
Yesterday, I only ate once and I didn't even track it. We went to BJ'S Brewery for the first time. I had a mini pizza and a garden salad with a brownie al mode. OYE!
We checked out Babies R Us (baby fever sucks, LOL) and went to Books A Million and I bought "PCOS For Dummies" "Low Carb Dieting For Dummies", Bob Harper's new book (my 30 pounds lost reward to myself :cool1:), and a Week By Week Pregnancy book (just in case I need it at some point in the future, LOL).
By the time we got home it was almost 6pm. I started reading the PCOS book and dosed off and woke up around 9 when my cell went off. Then I was up til 2am catching up on FB, Sparkpeople, etc and waiting for a headache to go away.
We FINALLY have gorgeous weather today and I'm planning on swimming later for my cardio workout. Alan's making chicken fettucine alredo and a veggie for dinner. I had a peanut butter sandwich, banana, and string cheese for lunch. Today will definately be back on track.
I'm learning more about PCOS with the "PCOS For Dummies" book. I've found out other symptoms I have that I hadn't read about anywhere else. Going to get a list of questions wrote out for the reproductive endo on Monday.
Toodles :tinker:
Good Wednesday morning everyone.
Last day of exams today. I finally get to give one today. I have been cleaning my classroom, closets and file cabinets. I can't believe how organized everything is. I think I will even have an empty shelf in my closet when I get the books in. It has not been this clean since I moved in 11 years ago.
Question of the day
Jambo2010006dennis.jpg
This is a picture of my dh from the last Boy SCout Jamboree (his friend took this picture). They worked the motocross activity for 2 weeks. Yes that is the size they ordered for the boys to ride.
It is also funny that camnhan mentioned that she just got a new bike.
What do you like to do outside? Is is biking hiking or even water parks?
Have a happy and healthy day.
We are getting into hiking. Our new weekend ritual is to find a new park and head out. San Antonio has a great Parks and Rec department. There are at least 2 dozen parks with trails in the city. There are many paved trails which are nice, we have one just outside our apartment complex that we go running on all the time. For the weekends though we look for the more difficult unpaved trails.
Here is my FB hiking photo album.
I'm here, but a bit behind my usual schedule. And I realized when I woke up that I never posted the promised recipe :eek: sorry!
I'm done with all of my morning stuff for now... 3 beds made, 10 stair circuits done, load of clothes on the line, load in the washer, house trash cans emptied and trip to the dump done, kitchen cleaned up and sink scrubbed out, dishwasher running, emails read..... now I"m off to read and reply and get that recipe up here! ............................P
In 6 months we will be going into to winter. Which season is your favorite? Is it easier for you to lose weight during a certain season? If so which one?
My favorite season is Fall. Here in the pacific northwest our autumn is beautiful. We often have better weather in fall then spring.
I have no idea which season it will be easier to lose weight in. I honestly haven't tried before this year. So far spring was pretty easy. :)
I think i'm doing ok so far this week. I've done some sort of physical activity 3 days in a row, 2 runs and 1 walk, and yesterday i did my 5 mile run in the morning and then made my boyfriend go with a walk in the afternoon (just about a mile, but I wanted HIM to do a walk). Turns out he had already done a HUGE walk that day. I'm trying to inspire him to get healthy and i think its slowly working. We watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead the other day and it was amazing and inspiring to both of us, and I hope it really opened his eyes. He's not obese by any means, but i can see him ending up that way if he continues on the path he's on.
So anyways, trying to keep up with at least 30 minutes of cardio every day, and then running every other day. I had to force myself to go today because yesterdays run was long and hard but I did it anyways. It was a little hot a buggy but i think the dogs enjoyed it, especially since i can't take them running anymore cause they just can't keep up.
Eating wise i've been doing ok. Not tracking everything, but trying to be better. I'm trying to focus on bigger breakfasts, because i find myself getting so hungry before lunch. My other goal is to stop late night eating. Second suppers are not the answer. I also want to try to go to bed earlier, since my sleep habits are getting all out of whack again. So I would say i'm not so much focused on the weight, but healthy habits that will lead to the weight loss.
I went grocery shopping today, got some stuff for smoothies, since i want to start trying that for lunch and such. Also fruits and veggies and some other things. I think it was a succedful trip. I got papaya to put in a smoothie, because i heard it helps with stomach issues and boy do i have those! I'll be honest i had no idea what a papaya looks like so i was a bit confused but i think i got the right fruit! The girl at the register had no idea! I don't even know what a papaya tastes like! Just trying new things!
I have work tonight, which sucks because the skies are dark and rainy and i have a stomach ache and i would like nothing more than to nap in bed! I have about an hour before i have to leave so im going to relax with some tea and then force myself to go. Tomorrow is my first day of the new job! SO NERVOUS
QOTD - I love fall! The colors, the smells, the crisp air, bonfires, cool evenings.....mmmmm, I love it :)
I'm not doing so great this week. I want sugar and I'm craving all sorts of things that are not on my plan! I'm having some tea with honey right now, trying to satisfy my sweet craving. I think it's because my weight loss has slowed down, so I'm losing my drive and motivation to stick with the plan. Hoping tomorrow will be better.
I passed Five Guys today and I'm pretty sure I had drool on my chin!
Congrats to all the maintainers and losers!
I live in a nice bubble that's called western PA. I haven't heard of Athleta, but I will be looking it up later!
Welcome back. So glad that Triumph made it through. Congrats to you for all your hard work!
Summer barely started and you're mentioning WINTER?!?!?:rotfl:
My favorite season is fall. I love the cool, crisp air, pumpkins, apples, football, and the changing leaves. I know summer is usually my hardest time to lose weight because I'm off in the summer and I don't have a schedule. During the school year, I eat at scheduled times, so I get thrown off a little in the summer. Plus...we *occasionally* have ice cream for dinner. That's completely normal, right? ;)
I am exhausted. I need to get 8 hours of sleep tonight so I am going to head up to bed to read for a bit. I'll probably only read a page before I fall asleep.
I did my first workout with the Jeff Galloway 5k program tonight. I picked the program to increase my 5k time since I feel like I am in decent shape. I liked it. I am hoping to stick with it and still squeeze in circuit training and spinning. We'll see what the summer brings.
I'll try to check in tomorrow. I don't want to fall behind or I'll be 10 pages behind! And who knows if I will be able to check in Friday and Saturday. My mom doesn't have wireless internet, so I won't be able to pop in if there is a lull at the garage sale.
Hope everyone is doing well :)
Jill
We just got a 5 guys-- I've heard really good things....Yeah husband and i were just talking about how we are past the danger period for the kittens and how enjoyable they are now-- it's worth it but for the last couple of weeks it's been very tense, and all of us have been dedicating just about every spare minute to keeping them alive. Losing his sibling really hurt.
Good Wednesday morning everyone.
Have a happy and healthy day.
I really love riding my bike. And skateboarding!
Well-- I think I'm gonna go work out as the kittens are asleep and the pool will be closed Fri and Sat. I am determined to get some pics today-- that will be my main mission...and put them on the computer. I weighed myself yesterday and was surprised to find I have maintained my 2# loss from the last challenge...hey-- I'll take it. I still really want another bagel....so I better get moving and flipping Leave.:sad:
Have a great day!
What do you like to do outside? Is is biking hiking or even water parks?
If it is super hot, I like to be near water: beach, pool, waterpark.
If it is not super hot, I'll do my regular walk/jog outside.
Shawn,
My ds and dh went to Sea Base. Which adventure is your son doing because there are several. My ds and dh did Out Island Adventure. They kayaked out to an island and lived there for several days. They had a guide for the entire time there. They were checked for swimming ability and could use a dive vest to help with flotation when there were snorkeling. I hope your son loves sea food because whatever they catch they eat.
DS and dh loved it. They slept on the beach (hope for breezes to keep away the bugs) and had a great time.
I was less worried about that adventure than Philmont which is much more strenuous.
He should have a good time.
Maybe I wasn't as worried about them because they went with another father and son and his wife and daughter and my younger son and I camped in Fort Wilderness and visited the parks.
DS is also doing out island adventure. We have 4 crews going from our troop. Maybe I would be less anxious if DH was also going. I worry about sharks, drowning, spiders, critters and all kinds of things! If it was ME going I would not worry at all;). I also worry that each crew has 2 adults that are men except for ours, we have one man and one woman. Oh I'm just an old worry wart!!!
Our troop is on the wait list for Philmont next Summer. They say we have a good chance to get in. I hope DS gets to go. These adventures are expensive but priceless:thumbsup2
for earning 5/5 points! Way to go!
Congratulations to this week's prize winner: leeandstacismom! Please PM me your address and I will send out your prize as soon as possible.
Well, this evening has been interesting. My mother cooked dinner. It was completely OP, but she has no idea how to cook. She is making Jello-O for some reason and is saying the recipe aloud. :rotfl2:
Not much to report. Most of my free time is spent doing homework. I have to get some done tonight, although I keep procrastinating. The sad part is that it will probably take me 15 minutes because I learned these math concepts in elementary school. :confused3
She is reading the directions again. :rotfl: I don't know why I find this so hysterical, but I do. Perhaps it is because I already had the directions memorized. :rotfl2:
I better go get some homework done. And maybe check on my mom. ;)
Have a great, OP day tomorrow everyone! Make tomorrow count! :goodvibes
LOL I'm laughing too CC!!
Although I do read recipes out loud too. But.....only when they are complicated or have never used them before.
WOOHOO!! 5 out of 5!
congrats to everyone who did the HH challenge!
Favorite outdoor activity? Probably biking!
Another quick post today, I'm beat.
Got up and did 30DS again today. I really had to force myself and almost quit at the beginning but I made it! I've been busy with my new job. I am really enjoying it. There are only 4 employees including me and they are very nice so it's going smoothly. I'm starting to get into the routine. It's nice to make some money, finally!!
Came across a book called Ultra Marathon Man: Confessions of an all-night runner by Dean Karnazes. It's pretty interesting so far but I'm only 2 chapters in.
Hope you all have a great night!!
I am going to try to remember that about the food the next time we go. We did not do carsland, probably in september once all the kids are back in school and it is a little less crowded. We are really lucky to live close and have passes (please my DH likes to take me when I have had a tough week at work). When we do check it out I will give everyone the update on how it is.
Thanks. I would have a tough day at work everyday if DH would take me :)
Question of the day
What do you like to do outside? Is is biking hiking or even water parks?
Have a happy and healthy day.
I enjoy a lot of outside activities. I run/walk outside. We like to take the boys on hikes and go geocaching. The kids like to ride their bikes and we walk/run along trails. We also enjoy camping and kayaking. My family loves water parks. There is one that's about 45 minutes away and if it didn't cost so much, we'd go more. We also love to go to zoos. We usually have a family membership at Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. It let's us go to a bunch of reciprocal zoos. One year we hit Pitts, Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus (OH). We also have a couple small petting farms/animal parks close to us that we try to visit.
I also enjoy laying on my front porch and reading. It's so relaxing.
Best of luck this weekend!
I never knew when DD started this how it would change our lives. But honestly, I"m SO THRILLED that she has something that she loves so much that is so good for her, both mentally and physically. I wouldn't really change a thing (other than possibly moving us closer to the pool).
So many parents have to give up so much of themselves and their lives for kids problems..... mental problems that involve inpatient stays, psychiatric visits, medication issues..... physical issues that involve therapy, medical treatments, etc, etc. I am ETERNALLY grateful that the time I have to dedicate to my DD is for such a GREAT thing. I remind myself that this daily driving I do could be to visit her somewhere in a home or hospital.... or worse. I know I complain about the driving and such, but I try to remember how lucky I am.
Thanks!
I absolutely loved swimming. I created quite a bond with the others on the team (since you're with them all the time). You are super lucky to have such great kids, even when you feel like you spend the whole day in the car :)
DSis just got all attitudey (made that word up) with me about how she can't believe I'm driving DS9 40 minutes away for archery camp this week. So I got all attitudey back and told her that it's something that makes him happy, it is not offered any closer to us, and I'd drive further if I needed to. You're right, I am so grateful for my kids.
I had my WW weigh in this morning (I am doing it at home, so it is my scale at home:) ), and since last Wednesday, I am down 2.8 pounds!!! Woooohoooooo!!!!:cool1: Being in the challenge sure makes a difference, but I think the biggest help is DH, who is trying to do it with me. Super supportive, that is for sure. He is the best! :)
Going to the library with the kiddos today, and then to their swimming lessons. Hope you all have a great day!
That's awesome! It's so much easier when DH is on board, I'm sure. Hope you had fun at the library and swimming lessons.
And here we go.... today's TIP OF THE DAY:
Before peeling or chopping your organic veggies, always give them a good wash/rinse. Then save the peelings, cores, stems, leaves etc in the freezer in a large ziptop bag. When the baggie is full, dump it into your largest stock pot, cover it with water, add a few peppercorns and a bayleaf, and set it on high without a lid. When it comes to a full boil, turn it down a bit so that it stays at a slow boil (nearly a simmer) until water is reduced by at least 1/3. Cool, strain, and you have just made your own fat-free, salt-free, organic vegetable stock for soups and stews! And it was practically FREE!!
TTYL...............................P
Thanks for the tip! Stupidly, I've never thought of doing this!
I like to swim and walk the parks at Disney World! I love having annual passes and just going and walking around and not even getting on rides. I love to just show up a few hours before Wishes and the parade, find a good spot, watch everything, and then leave the park. :)
Jill -- Good luck with the garage sale
I'm learning more about PCOS with the "PCOS For Dummies" book. I've found out other symptoms I have that I hadn't read about anywhere else. Going to get a list of questions wrote out for the reproductive endo on Monday.
Toodles :tinker:
It must be so nice to be so close to wdw. I would love to just be able to go, stroll around, and take it all in. But, we can only go every so often, so we rush around trying to do everything we can.
Thanks!
Good idea to write all your questions down and I hope you get the answers you're looking for!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ugh...DS6 just finished his antibiotic for strep on Monday and I think he has it again! He was fine this morning. While DS9 was at camp, DS6 and I went to an animal rescue. We checked out all the dogs first and found 2 we want :) (DH would divorce me~one dog and one cat is enough for him). Then we went to the cat area. They have 7 rooms of cats that you can go into and play. We also found 2 cats we want lol.

Well, DS6 was fine during all the animal visiting. But, I noticed around 5:00 that he was laying on our couch under a blanket and not wanting dinner. I took his temp and it was 101.1. And, he sounds streppy now (his voice always sounds funny when he gets it). So, I think we'll be calling the pediatrician and trying to get a throat swab tomorrow. He freaks when he needs to get swabbed, so I would rather DH take him, but he's at clinicals until 3.

Then, the boys are in a Flag Day ceremony at 6:00 tomorrow for scouts. I'm thinking DS6 won't be in the ceremony now.

Oh geez~sorry for all the rambling!

I'll be checking in sometime tomorrow, then I may not be able to be on too much Friday or Saturday. Have a great night.

Jill
