Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

I've really enjoyed reading everyone's goals and plans for the challenge. :thumbsup2

I WISH that I could respond to each and every one of you individually but I did not have any internet access at the office today and it would take me the rest of the week-end to catch up. :lmao: Thank you all so much for chattering and responding to one another. :flower3:

BRB with the QOTD for tomorrow.

I'm Linda and I'll be your challenge lurker! popcorn:: These things move so fast and I get obsessive compulsive about reading every post that I just don't have time to post myself! So I think I'll just stay quiet. Know that I am cheering you on even if you never see me post!

So I have 2 DS and a wonderful DH. We will celebrate 25 years this fall and I am making him take me to DLR. He's never been (WDW 4 times, though!) and I haven't been in 26 years. DS1 graduates from high school in one week and DS2 is a freshman. They are jocks and DS2 is also in choir and band (flute). I substitute for the assistants at 2 elementary schools only. They keep me plenty busy and right now I am cannot wait for summer to start!

Keep up the good work, Losers!! :cheer2:

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals? If you don't want to take the quiz, you can just answer the question or share your thoughts on what it takes to be prepared to reach your goals.

On your Way Your Goals!
You're well on your way to reaching your goals! But you could help yourself get there more easily by implementing a few changes, like enlisting a diverse support group, tracking your progress, and rewarding yourself along the way.

I took the online quiz and found the answer to be interesting.

I just wanted to say a quick thanks for all the support I received today. Im the past I would have beat myself up and then just blown the rest of the day, but with all the support I was able to put the lunch past me and get a little workout in tonight.

What a chatty bunch already!!! Day 1 and I was behind 7 pages already!!!

Introduce yourself - My name is Janis I turn 53 in August. I live a little north of Boston with my DH and DS 15 and our little 2 yo mutt Patches. I work full time nights - and have worked a night shift for the past 25 years. DH and I joke that is why we are still married - we never see each other!!!

This first week is a week of celebrations for us. June 3 - my 33rd anniversary working for the US Govt. June 5 is DS 54th birthday, June 8 is our 27th wedding anniversary. And I hate to say it - but the honeymoon is over. :rotfl: DH and DS are going on a camping trip with Scouts that day for the weekend.

The Plan - keep plugging away. Weigh and Measure, journal a little more closely than I have been. I need to increase my walking - in anticipation of my trip to WDW in August.

During the last challenge we talked about picking an "anchor" something that when we think of that "anchor" it will help to keep us on our path. My wonderful DH remembered mine was a compass. For Mother's day he gave me a wonderful bracelet with a compass on it. I will put a plug in for the company - Alex and Ani. The jewelry is made of all recycled materials and made locally in Rhode Island.

compass.jpg

He is so supportive and loving. I am very lucky. We will be celebrating his birthday on Sunday and he has requested fish. So it is between a local place - Turner's Seafood and Legal Seafood.

I promise to keep up with all of you!!!! :beach:

Yes, I'm prepared to reach my goals. I think not just physically but you have to be perpared mentally too. You can know you should lose weight, you can clear out the cupboards, but in less there is something that truely connects you to your goal it won't happen. I found that something for me! And I hope you've all found your something too.::yes::

Took the quiz. And it tells me I am prepared for success. I would have to agree. ;)

Had a great Day 1....and day 2 is under way.

Thanks for all the suggestions for a C25K application. I ended up getting something called 10K Runner by Heavy Duty Apps. Hey had a 5K version as well that is an 8 week program. The 10 is 14 weeks and will bring me right up to the week of a local 10K. Could not find a local 5K. So this should get me to my stated goal and then some.

Have a great day!

I took the quiz and this time, I am prepared! I have my support system in place and am losing weight for myself. The latter is key. I am no longer trying to lose weight because my mother keeps nagging me. I'm doing this for myself and my health.

This is a great QOTD! Here are some HH suggestions for today. Are your measuring cups and spoons ready? Buffy had a great idea! Organize the drawer you found them in-it's a good head start for an upcoming mini-challenge. Did you find a good-sized water bottle or glass? Lots of us talk about how important it is to drink water. I keep a water with me at all times now. It's all about being prepared!

Well I took the quiz and it said I was prepared for success. I however am not so sure. Ever get that feeling that "What if I succeed and nothing changes?" ack I woke up in weird mood  Well here's to success and finding out what happens with it.

Took the test, and got this for my result:

Congratulations! It sounds like you know a thing or two about goal-setting and that you've taken steps to ensure you'll be successful, supported and highly motivated along the way. Just be sure your motivation stays strong even when the going gets tough.

Sounds like me to a t!

I love reading all your updates! We're starting off with a bang and I'm ready to keep going! :cheer2:

Yesterday was a great day...I stayed within my calorie goal, walked 6.7 miles and stayed positive. Today I need to clean and will at least walk 3 miles. My DH has to work :( so I'm pretty much alone all day. I always have a harder time staying on my diet when I'm alone. :confused3

My friend is leaving for Disney today. :) You know what that means, a day of wishing I were at Mickey's house riding POTC! pirate: Who am I kidding...that's everyday.

What's everyone else doing today?

Well I am a few days late to the party but at least I made it. Some of you may remember me....my name is Lindsay. I joined the BL challenges 2 years ago. I had always been thin and athletic and then I graduated high school and stopped my athletics. Put on weight and lost it, put on weight and lost it, etc....you get the point. I really wasnt that bad until after I had my second child in 2007. I have not been able to loose the weight and actually put on more weight as the years went on. 2 years ago I decided to give myself a goal and I signed up for the princess half marathon 2011. I lost 32lbs and ran the princess at 183lbs. I had more to loose but instead of coming home and getting right to work I slacked. I got back up to 212 and have been working since January to loose and keep off the weight. I am currently at 197.6. I have a new motivator in sight. We are taking a trip to disney in Oct.:yay: So I have 126 days to get myself fit.

Oh and the other stuff you should know about me is that I am 33, Married for almost 9yrs (will be celebrating in disney). I have two sons...Ryan 7 1/2 and Nick 5yrs. In addition to being a full time mom I am also a full time worker. I am the practice manager of a pediatric office. I have been working at the office for 16yrs. I love my job and most times I have a good balance going between work and home but it is quite stressful to keep the balance and often my health and exercise gets thrown on the back burner. I have realized that I am important too and the past two years I have been much better of taking care of myself.

My exercise of choice is running although I really enjoy Zumba too. I love sports and we are avid Philly fans. Go Phillies and Eagles.:yay: I have been currently doing a specific workout the past month but I am being close lipped about it because I feel when I talk about what I plan to do sometimes I dont do what I say and then I feel like a failure. So this time I am going to do it and then live to tell about it. What I can tell you is that I love what I am currently doing, my husband and I are doing it together, I have lost 8lbs and he has lost 15. I also have lost 4 inches from my total measurements. I am feeling great and am starting this challenge off on the right foot.:thumbsup2

oh and last I will add I made some amazing life long friends on here and I cant thank them enough because I would have quit a long time ago if it wasnt for them.

I plan to do my workouts 6 nights a week and also try to fit runs in every now and then too. I will continue to use my fitness pal to track my calories. I will rely on my friends here to keep me inspired and if I have a bad off plan day I will not let it be an excuse to just give up all together. I also will plan my meals and keep healthy choices at home.

thanks for coaching this week Lisa you are doing an awesome job. I have high hopes to catch up later and read everyones intro's. Excited to catch up with old friends and meet new ones too.

Hi Lindsay!! Our weight is very close, I started the challenge off at 198.2 and I am also going to Disney in October! We leave in 129 days, so we will be there around the same time!! :cool1:

Good evening everyone! I know a lot of us struggle with sweets, so I wanted to share a great simple recipe I found that is portioned controlled and only about 100-150 calories. Its called 3-2-1 Cake, some of you may of heard of it, but I was just told about it a week ago.

3-2-1 Cake

Ingrediants
1 Box Angel Food cake mix
1 Box Cake mix ANY flavor
2 Tbsp Water

Directions
In a ziploc bag, combine the two cake mixes together and mix well. For each individual cake serving, take out 3 Tablespoons of the cake mix combination and mix it with 2 Tablespoons of water in a small microwave-safe container. Microwave on high for 1 minute, and you have your own instant individual little cake! Keep remaining cake mixture stored in the ziploc bag and use whenever you feel like a treat! You can top each cake with a dollop of fat free whipped topping and/or some fresh fruit.
**I store my mix in a tupperware container with the directions taped to the outside, for my "forgetful" DH
:rotfl:

Sounds great!!! Thanks for sharing!! :thumbsup2

The quiz says I am ready for success!! The spring challenge was the most success that I have ever had for weight loss and I feel that the summer challenge will keep me on that path! I am very excited about this challenge!! :yay:

Happy Saturday all! :goodvibes

It's so fun to read everyone's plans and goals for the challenge and see if we are all truly ready to launch! :cool1:

Somehow during the walk, I managed to really hurt my right knee. It now really hurts to walk on it! That definitely puts me in a pickle. I was planning on starting C25K tomorrow! I also have another 3,000 steps to complete today. I am not sure what I am going to do. This is not a good start to getting myself back on track!

Hope that your knee is feeling better today, Carla Rae. :flower3:

I guess the best way to look at it is that tomorrow is a new day, and that dinner is not a lost cause. I just need to remember to not let one bad meal get me down.

::yes:: This is exactly the way that you should look at it. Great job! :thumbsup2

Well, my goodness, I had better check on this thread more often! It has only been a day, and I already don't have time to go through all the responses!! :rotfl:

:lmao: Yes, we are chatty at the beginning of a challenge. Don't worry about catching up just answer the QOTD and go forward from the page we are on. :)

Don't be to hard on yourself and just remember tomorrow is a new day! Try to have a healthier dinner and maybe do a little extra exercise, if you feel the need to.

Excellent advice! ::yes::

Hi Lindsay! :wave2: Nice to see you! princess: Great plan. I know that you are going to have a rockin' summer! :rockband:

Don't get down on yourself. It is only a fail if you let it sideline everything else. one meal didn't cause the weight problem and one meal won't solve it. It is a process over time. Just balance it out with something extra healthy today and keep going :)

Excellent advice, Jen!

I didn't expect the laundry detergent to create such discussion! It is for the organizing portion of Healthy Habits. The notebook is also for the financial portion of HH.

I went running tonight with my husband in the rain. It was light and comfortable. I love running in the rain. :goodvibes I usually run while I listen to a book on tape, it makes the time go by. However, I downloaded some new songs and wanted to run to them. My mistakes is that they had a rather fast beat .... which made me run faster ... so I tired out too quickly. My goal is to run longer distances. I can run 2 miles without stopping but I would really like to work up to 3 miles. (Another goal. ;)

Way to go running in the rain, Fran! :umbrella:

There are a couple of Galloway apps on Lolo one for the 5K and another for the 10K that let you sync the beat of the music to your pace. It will speed it up or slow it down as the case may be and not enough so you really notice. You can vary it during your workout, too. They are $3.99 each. Plus Galloway is coaching you. I always like to listen to his southern accent.

BRB with the rest of my replies so far -- having a little trouble with the smilie police. :teeth:

Back again! :goodvibes The smilie police won't let you put more than 25 smilies in any one post, in case you didn't already know that . . .

Kristina, sounds like your body is getting with the program without waiting for the doctor! :goodvibes

As much as I'd like to do the full at WDW in Janauary, I think I'm going to aim for the 1/2. Really wanted the full because it's our 20th wedding anniversary and the 20th anniversary of the race, but I just don't think I'm there. Kinda bummed about that decision.

I know it is disappointing, Buffy, but I think that doing the Donald will set you up for success: :donald: Plus some of your friends will be there. ;) And we get to Scream Team for the Marathon folks and drink beer while the others are running. :drinking: Doesn't that sound like fun?

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals? If you don't want to take the quiz, you can just answer the question or share your thoughts on what it takes to be prepared to reach your goals.

My quiz results this time were "prepared for success." It hasn't always been that result so I always like to have a little reality check to make sure I've set myself up for success. I find that works much better for me than setting lofty, inachieveable goals, and the cycle of failure that results. :hippie:

I haven't introduced myself so here is the short story. I'm Debbie. Been on Dis for 14½ years, and was not creative with my name. In those days...we weren't. I've been on the original W.I.S.H. challenges, too, many moons ago. (before it was W.I.S.H.) I did the first W.I.S.H. half-marathon in 2005 with my three sisters. Those are memories that will live with me forever. :goodvibes

Hi Debbie! Nice to see you! :flower3: It is amazing how many of the original WISH group are still around. :cool2: I cannot say enough about how WISHers truly inspired me and changed my life. :hippie:

I took the quiz and I'm on way to success. Last night was tough. Friday night's are my cheat night because usually it's the only time I really have to relax with my husband after a busy week. I made good decisions during the day but at night I went over my ww points by a few. That's ok though - I'm learning to accept mistakes and ready to get back on track.

This is a tempting month. My husband is a HUGE basketball fan and our team - the Celtics are in the playoffs. I'm not sure how much you all know about New England and sports but we are crazy! Extremely loyal fans, so every game is a party, with junk food. So hard to say no, but I'm trying hard to change my thinking that you don't need to celebrate with food, but it's gonna be a tough lesson to learn!

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals? If you don't want to take the quiz, you can just answer the question or share your thoughts on what it takes to be prepared to reach your goals.

Yes, I am prepared to reach my goal. Will I reach it this challenge? The goal of wanting to hit ONEDERLAND you can bet your booty on it I will!! It'll take more time for me to hit my overall goal but I'm taking it one day, one meal, and one workout at a time.

I know its going to take patience and planning to reach either of my goals. This includes sitting down every Sunday and planning for the upcoming week. I also sit down at the end of each month and calculate the number of minutes I worked out, the number of ounces of water I drank, and the number of miles that I have walked/swam. I love being able to look at those numbers at the end of each month and be proud of what I've accompllished.

HI everyone.

Back from my nephew's wedding. It was a long day. The wedding was beautiful. It was nice to see all the kids cousins. The youngest is 21 and is is wonderful to see how successful they have all become. I have to get some pictures up on snapfish so that I can have sil show to my inlaws who felt that they couldn't travel.

I am so wiped out. It is so taxing to just sit around and chit chat. Maybe that is why I don't like the reception part of a wedding.

I will be back later. I have to check out some websites for some airfare for vacation. I think I need to buy those this weekend.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Afternoon Janis! -- Congratulations on your wedding & job anniversaries. I hope while your DH and DS are out camping that you take the time to do something for yourself. :)

Tinkerbye -- Good luck on reaching your goal! Yes, I agree part of reaching your goal is mental as well. I have days where my brain is just telling me, "You have been busting your butt. You can take a day off, its no big deal." I have to fight that inner voice and keep plugging along.

Christopher -- Enjoy your new app! I hope it helps you in being successful

CC -- I'm rooting you on to be successful this challenge! I love the idea of organizing where all of your measuring cups are and such. Oh wait, I don't need to do that. Alan put a nail in the wall and they are hanging up where I can see them. I got tired of digging through a drawer looking for them, :lmao:. I love the pink resuable water bottle I bought back toward the end of April. It has a built in straw which is awesome for me. I'm weird, I drink more when I'm drinking from a straw.

Lee -- You WILL succeed with all of our help! :)

Twingle -- Sounds like your prepared to reach your goals. :yay:

MinandMick -- 6 miles?!?! WOW!! That's incredible!

Dona -- It sounds like it was a great wedding. Good luck with booking
airfare

--------

Well, going to do some strength training today and I'm already half way through my 64 ounces of water for the day. Alan's going to make some egg sandwiches when he gets home from CVS. I'm going to strip our bed today and wash linens and do some vacuuming. I'm thinking we're going to do leftovers for dinner considering we have so many in the fridge. We shredded up chicken last night for tacos and I may take a portion of the leftovers, add BBQ sauce, and tada shredded bbq chicken sandwiches. I still need to pay bills for the month as well.

I hope everyone has an OP (on plan) day! I'll be back later... :wizard:
