Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Healthy Habits Week 10: Downtown Disney

Mini-Challenge #1: No rope drop here! Don't let that get you down; there are still plenty of ways to exercise here! Earn 1 point for sticking to your exercise plan.

Mini-Challenge #2: What trip to a Disney park wouldn't be complete without shopping? Now, I'm cheap and I'm more than willing to admit it. On 1 trip, I spent about $3 on a postcard of the castle and that was it outside of food. In light of some of our recent chatter, set a grocery shopping budget for the week and stick to it to earn 1 point. (You can spent up to $10 more to earn the point.)

Mini-Challenge #3: Basin-Laundry basin that is! Do some spring cleaning. Wash your blankets this week.

Mini-Challenge #4: Once Upon a Toy-You are never too old to play! Do something you consider fun. This is pretty much free for you to decide. However, I do not consider cleaning the bathroom, doing laundry, or weeding the garden fun. ;)

Mini-Challenge #5: Food-so many options, so few are healthy. When I asked for suggestions for HH, a few of you suggested this one. Make a Disney recipe healthy. The one that comes to mind first is fish and chips. Kudos to anyone who can make a recipe from Goofy's Candy Co. healthy!

Mini-Challenge #6: Earl of Sandwich-or salad! Eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies in total on 5/7 days this week to earn 1 point.

Have a great, OP week everyone!

Good Friday morning everyone.

I just signed on and as soon as I did I remembered that it was my week to post QOTD.

P1000278.jpg

This is a picture of dh. He took a group of scouts and parents to Florida Sea Base in the Florida Keys.

What places besides DW do like to vacation to?

We stayed in the keys a few years ago. We stayed in Key Largo and went snorkeling and rode a glass bottom boat. We drove down to Key West and on the way stopped at Florida Sea Base so dh could show me around.

WE have been to many places around the east coast. We are talking about a couple of trips to the west coast when we both retire.

Trying to catch up!!

QOTD: Magical Moment! Getting upgraded to Tower Room at Contemporary..I do believe there was a very sweet CM who visits the Dis who realized I had lost 50 pounds to get below 200...and I think I caught eye contact with her as I got the news at check in that we were upgraded...Sad that it has taken me 5 years to get back below 200 but this is the last trip down! I will NEVER see 200 again and it was just extremely special to have that boost back then! Thank you!!!!

QOTD: Well, I guess other vacations, we have managed one trip to England with the kids (cheaper than a Disney trip!!) and they loved that, got to attend the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London and my son who at the time was all about falcons/hawks, went to a falconry center where they let him hold a falcon on his arm and throw food out to it and call it back in to him...it was awesome!! The funny part was that my son was obsessed with all ornithology (about 9 years old then) and had memorized pretty much all species! The caretaker at the center put him to the test, they had over 50 species from around the world and she quizzed him, he got everyone right!! Until she came to this one special bird....he was stumped! It was soo funny to see my son just sit there and finally say, "Mom, this is not a bird." Cracked the lady up! True! It was not in any field guides because it was one of a kind, a hawk from South America mated with a hawk from Africa and they actually created a 'new' species...she finally found a bird that stumped him! :)

I have an announcement!
I AM OVERWEIGHT!!!!

As of this morning, I am no longer OBESE!!! I will NEVER see OBESE again!! I have 30-40 pounds to hit goal, no clue what goal is until I get there and see how I feel....but I am now according to BMI officially Overweight!! And claiming the 70 pound clippie!! I can not wait to claim that 100 pound clippie and hope to do it by New Year's...for any that are just having a hard time getting in the groove, stick with it! Those first 20 pounds of any loss are the hardest! I finally feel like I"m in the groove and do not crave as much junk as I used to or have emotional eating days when I'd only have a maintain or low loss week...I'm plugging in and making this body respect my wishes!! :)

Hope everyone has a GREAT losing week!!!

I rarely have time to even peak at this thread, and, I am thrilled to have done so today. WEIGH to go! Keep up the GREAT work! We've been doing this the same length of time and I WISH that I had your stamina and resolve. Congratulations!

Happy Friday:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

SO glad to be off for the weekend. What a week, I am tired!

Unfortunately, just in time for weight in Aunt Flo has dropped in. That's a bother, but with luck the weight gain won't be more than a pound or 2.

QOTD: Favorite vacation spot is Rehoboth Beach, DE:cool1: Have been going there forever and will never stop until i die. Fortunately, my parents now have a house up there so I get there several times a year. Great family spot, lots of character and fun things to do.

May or may not get a workout in today, depends on AF. Definitely gotta get housework done though.

Have a great day everybody:thumbsup2

We like to go to Mexico to see relatives. I love San Francisco & have family there also. Vegas is always fun. I live in the Pacific Northwest so short trips to the coast (brrrr) or Seattle are typically something we do more often.

Debbie!!!:grouphug::grouphug: You are so awesome! Yes! I remember the old gang! I still see some familiar names, but so missed seeing yours! :) It has not been 'fun' but I think this time going down will be my last, too much mental beating ups to want to redo this again! Plus, my family has really caught the 'let's stay active' bug!! I take my son to rowing practice 5 days a week, he lost 65 pounds in 7 months!! He looks amazing! And my girls have never had to struggle but do Irish dance competitively now so they keep me inspired to move! Just gotta get a fire under my dhs tail! He has not caught on yet, hoping my loss will inspire him!! :)

Wahoo! I got my HH package from CC. Thank you so much. Full of lots of good stuff and I can't wait to try some recipes from my new Biggest Loser Cookbook.::yes::

Tara, I am so very proud of you for your own efforts AND for getting the whole family involved! THAT'S key, I think! MY DH thinks a workout is when I hand him the dustcloth to dust while he is watching tv. :lmao: He does bike to the post office each day, so that is a small start. Well done for the kids-especially the son's weight loss! :thumbsup2 Keep going strong!

MY DS left for his week at Sea Base this morning:cool1: Hope he has a great time! I love to travel almost anywhere; I enjoy travelling with my family but it is also fun to travel with girlfriends. I love my annual girls trip to NYC. Love to travel anywhere in Europe, love tropical locations, love my Disney
cruises, even love to just get away for a day trip. I really enjoy travelling, I would say it is my #1 hobby.

Tara, CONGRATS:dance3: I hope to get there one day soon. I need to hit 179 to be in the overweight category.

Our August food challenge is going well, I have spent less than $14 so far. Since we started on a Tuesday (Aug 1st), we had food on hand already. I usually shop for groceries on the weekend. I did not have to spend anything but went out to lunch with friends yesterday and today. That will be a challenge for me but I don't want to stop going out with my friends!

Tracey, I thought of you today - I used a groupon for a mani-pedi and I left the lady a NICE tip!! I think I will go back and try them again. They were pricey but did a great job. My feet were in sad shape and they are baby soft now!

Looking forward to relaxing tonight and watching the Olympics.

Shawnprincess:

Thanks, Shawn!!!! Love you!!!!! We need more people like you!

Been a frustrating week all around! Some clients are behaving appropriately while others are still driving me crazy! I've got 3 clients tomorrow and then I'm off until Tuesday when I have 3 during the day and 2 at night! Still trying to find another massage therapist as the other girl won't work past Wednesday. Guess we will be rescheduling a whole bunch of massages. I can only do so many a day and during the week. I'm not going to injure myself for nothing. I've posted again at a local massage school as it's guaranteed work immediately that gives the therapist experience. Don't know what else to do! But I will be picking and choosing what times I work on Saturdays as of next week. Not much else I can do. My family comes first!

My dad came home yesterday from rehab. He had a nurse here this afternoon and then physical therapy. My sister flies up on Wednesday afternoon and then she will drive them back on Thursday. My sister is in Miami picking up my nephew and driving back to NC with him this weekend They are in Boca Raton at my aunt's tonight.

Brian's going to do something special with the kids on Sunday as he goes on call next Tuesday until he doesn't know when. He met with a former co-worker the other night and will be doing a phone interview one day next week. Hoping he can change jobs in the next month. Just has to go through the formalities of the interview process. He doesn't owe anything to where he is now but doesn't want to leave his co-workers in a lurch either. Loyalty is both a good thing and a bad thing. They are in serious trouble when he leaves but no one will blame him either!

Watching Princess Diaries right now. Not sure what we will watch tonight. Nothing really on the Olympics that I need to see tonight. Will try and catch up on a few shows on the TIVO tonight before they get erased!

Sorry for all the belly-aching! I'm just sooooo frustrated that I don't know what to do! My boss just doesn't get it!!!! She went away again for a few days. She will be the one that will need to reschedule all the massages, NOT ME!!!!

TTFN :tigger:

I get these emails from a Disney related site weekly, and in one part of it people share their magical moments they have experienced at a Disney Park. They can be very simple like the cute couple being surprised by a cast member with a sundae just because they looked so sweet together, or a bit more elaborate like being chosen to be in a parade. Have any of you experienced a Disney Magical Moment?

I actually don't know if my family has ever been singled out for anything special... the only thing I can think of is when I was calling to check on my room requests after booking through Expedia. My grandmother had passed away a few weeks beforehand, and so when I was in a bad mood I took advantage of the hotel being open 24 hours and would call around 1:00 or 2:00 am to check in and make sure that my room requests were registered. One of the nights I called, I said that I wanted a certain building that was as far out of the way of the hustle as possible, and the CM on the other end said, "that's it?" I felt bad being picky, so I didn't know what she meant... she was like, "well, a lot of couples want to be off the ground floor, and a lot request a corner room"... so she added a bunch of things to my request... we ended up getting a REALLY wonderful room location directly across from the quiet pool. I was so grateful to her!

What places besides DW do like to vacation to?

My extended family's house in the Adirondacks (built by my great-grandfather) during the summer, Cape Cod with my girlfriends, and the Adirondack High Peak region during the winter!

Just noticed that you live in NYC, we will be there on vacation next year. Do you know where the Park Central hotel is? If so, is it convenient to most of the major attractions in the city?

I realized that I NEVER remembered to multi-quote this somehow! If it is where I think it is (a block or so south of Central Park) you're in a great spot!! You're right by some good train lines and you've also got the park right there, so you can go downtown easily or to the museums uptown East or uptown West. If you have ANY questions at all about your trip or the city please be in touch!

I love the story of your memory... if I get to go on my trip one day to celebrate my weight loss, I won't be able to help hoping hoping hoping for an upgrade hahahah. When they ask if I'm celebrating anything, can I say "being awesome?" :rotfl:

Also, that story about your son with the falcons is so awesome. What a bright kid!!! Does he still love that stuff?

And most of all-- CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :cheer2:

Well... the week did go well weigh-in time this morning! Then for some reason I kind of "celebrated" and let today go over--not just my planned calories, but over my net for my weight in the first place. I'm going out to brunch with some friends tomorrow and have a big dinner planned tomorrow (trying Harold's sunchoke creamed spinach... anybody with me on that?? :goodvibes), so I need to go and put those recipes in MFP so I have a plan. Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Good Saturday morning.

It is hot and humid here in jersey this morning. It is getting me ready for Fl.

Have you ever done a special tour while in Disney?

This is a picture of my segway tour we took a few years ago. I am the one in the middle in the blue t-shirt. My sons are to the right and left of me. My twin sister is on the left in the white shirt. This tour consisted of all my family and my sister's family and ds' gf. My dh hated the feel of the segway and opted out of the tour after the first 25 minutes (they alllow this before you get out of the building.) My sons had a blast. I liked going into to WS when no one else was there. We also got back into FW when there were people there. We were treated as our own parade. It was a lot of fun. My dh got to watch us through the binoculars on the other side of the lake. He met us as we came into England and walked with us back to Innoventions.

DH also has done KTTK with my bil.

Have a happy and healthy day.

I've always wanted to do a segway tour, looks like a blast!! So cool!:cool1: Alas, no special tours here...but one year the parks were DEAD (we were the first people to board a flight to Orlando after 9/11...very strange, only 8 people on our normally full plane!! We were originally scheduled to be on the flight on 9/12...) and they allowed us to ride Splash Mountain about 10+ times without getting off! That was a really cool 'tour' :)

Have never tried sunchoke! Let us know how it is!! I get the celebrating thing, I do the same thing, I am good for 6 days then if I see that scale move it's like I feel I can be 'normal' for a day...yesterday I had hash browns for breakfast, turkey/swiss slice for lunch and a peach, then dinner I had to try a new restaurant that just opened (Jimmy Johns)....I ate only half the sandwich (roast beef) but then later finished it and the bag of chips it came with! It may not sound like a lot, but that was a big sandwich! And I never eat white bread, so I felt really guilty. Oh, and I had a serving of mint chocolate chip ice cream...all around, not what I do on a losing basis...but not kicking myself, just motivated to make the next 25 days NON cheat days!! Our 20th anniversary is the 29th...I can make this sacrifice to pull off some big numbers on the scale!! I would love to be in the 180s for my anniversary and if possible 170s by the time we take our anniversary cruise!! (9/8)

Here's to you getting pixie dusted on your next trip!! I'll need it on our cruise, have not even booked the rooms yet! Long story! But holding out for IGT/OGT rates...I could get burned but the savings we may realize are worth it!! We'd save enough money to actually have some to spend on excursions! :)

My son still loves birds, but now has moved on to rowing...he's the kind of kid that puts 110% into one thing, for two years he really had nothing that he wanted to plug into and that was sad, so thankful rowing came about, he's got his purpose again and gets to see kingfishers and herons all the time on the river...cool when two of his interests combine! :)

Lots going on right now. Some good and some not so good. I don't have time to get into all of it but here is a recent blog to give you a small piece of what's going on in my world.

August 2nd -- Hematologist Apt
*GRUMBLE MUMBLE GRUMBLE**
Went to hematologist today and was glad I only waited 10 minutes. I get back to the room and they get ready to check my PT/INR. Okay cool no big deal it had been a few weeks. Then he looks at me with this blank stare on his face like he doesn't know why I'm there!

I explained what we had discussed 3 weeks ago. He asks 'Did you fill out a medical release form?" "Um no". I told him "The RE has my hematologist file. She wanted to see what the hematologist in TX had done. I would imagine you can just call them and have them fax it."
I fill out the form and he tells me "I'll call you."

I just called them a few minutes ago and the front desk lady tells me "Oh well the RE's office wouldn't give us the info. They told Dr B he had to contact your Texas hematologist." I had to hang up with her and log into my Tricare stuff to pull the number off of the referral. I called her back with the info.

10 minutes later Dr B calls back and Alan hands me the phone. Back in 2010 my lupus blood test had come back positive and that's why Dr Jain had told me I had to stay on the blood thinners. I'm going back in on August 16th and having the test redone. If it comes back negative then he can take me off of them for good. If it comes back positive I have to stay on them.

I need to finish getting ready. We're leaving for Grand Floridian in 45 minutes

Toodles! :tinker:

Well seems like you guys have been very busy! Have lurked when I have had the chance but work and home have been really pushing me to my wits end over the past few weeks.
Told myself I need to get a grip and take charge and get back on track!

My progress has been snail slow and although I realize that is the best way it is just not motivating enough for me. I am all about instant gratification !!! Have been trying to find motivation but have just been in this funk so have not gotten there yet.

In a little over a month I will get to see Disneyland! I am looking forward to that however since it is a work trip and not family it is not as exciting for me...

Congrats to those who have met there goal (yeah!!) and dropped into a lower weight category ;). I do love to read about your successes!!!! Keep it up!

Vegging out I front of the tv watching the Olympics. So Gunnar go for now.

Will try to be more visible!!!!
