Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

QOTD - I've never done a special tour, but my boyfriend has done keys to the kingdom, and his aunt has worked for disney for 30 years, so we hear a lot of "behind the scenes" stories. We've also encountered MANY characters on smoke breaks because his brother is a smoker and usually smokes in the employee areas. It's sort of surreal to be honest.

I worked today at the musuem and I have to say I just love that job so much. i get to meet the most wonderful people and I truly have fun at work. I had someone tell me today that I was such an inspiration because of how I was going back to school and following my dream.

After work I went to my Aunt's house to see her new kitten because I really didn't want to be home (things are crummy here), he was cute but covered in fleas! Yuck! But a very sweet little guy.

Tomorrow it looks like I'm going to a Revolutionary War reenactment with some folks from the history club. It's the largest reenactment in new england so it should be interesting..I just wish I could have gotten one of my friends to go with me. But still it should be fun.

I've been doing my exercises every night for the past week, so i'm proud of that. I haven't done them yet tonight and I'm so not feeling it, but I will force myself at some point. It takes about 20 minutes to do all of it and its quite tiring but its going to be worth it!!!

Good Sunday morning.

Today is my 34th wedding anniversary. I got dh a tshirt for our trip. It has a Dole whip on it. I also got some magnets in the form of the old ticket system. We used them on our honeymoon. He got me some beautiful flowers yesterday and I think there are some small things we can use for our trip in a couple of weeks.

It will be pretty quiet around here today. We will probably watch some Olympics and then go out to dinner. I may hit the local farmer's market for some fruits and veggies.

This is a picture of my friend's first pillowcase day. We make pillowcases for kids with cancer. They are given out to local hospitals and some hospitals in NY and Philla.

Do you have a favorite group that you like to work with?

I do like to work with this pillowcase group but have worked with Boy SCouts and the local high school band. I also love to work with the local high school theater group and have gotten done a little work with a community group near by.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Do you have a favorite group that you like to work with?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!

Groups- I work with my kids sports teams, I'm team mom for both. Outside of school we raise money for the Hole In The Wall Gang.
Paul Newman has a camp here in CT for kids with cancer. When my dad has his annual Steam and antique car party, we sell T-Shirts donated by a friend and all the money goes to the camp.

My favorite group right now is American Heritage Girls..just picked my girls up after an 8 hour drive (there/back) to get them after a week long camp, amazing volunteers and skills learned...faith encouraged and 100 girls from many states who had an amazing week! 7 years ago, I started our troop, and it's grown from 8 girls to over 60 which is our cap, our church is small we just can't take on more, but more troops are popping up so that meets the need...just a great way to give back to our girls!! :)

Happy Anniversary Dona:bride: I did not know you were a twin:goodvibes. She looks just like you, are you identical? We took a Segway tour last Dec, just of our local downtown. It was sooo much fun, we all really enjoyed it. Have never done a special tour at Disney but have taken many of the Disney excursions on the cruises. We prefer to take the "safe" route and use the Disney cruise excursions instead of an independent operator. You are guaranteed the boat won't leave w/o you and once during inclement weather, we were given the choice to cancel our excursion and get our money back. If the ship has to skip a port for any reason, you also get your money back. They are very expensive but always really high quality.

We work with different groups from time to time but most consistently with our son's BS troop. This can be rewarding but often frustrating working with a group of boys and men;). They are not the most organized, or attentive or efficient;)
I have also spent many happy hours ringing with different bell choirs in town. I am only going to be a sub this year. We've had some fun times volunteering for different teams and schools, working together as a family selling concessions too. Hard work but fun family time.

Well seems like you guys have been very busy! Have lurked when I have had the chance but work and home have been really pushing me to my wits end over the past few weeks.
Told myself I need to get a grip and take charge and get back on track!

My progress has been snail slow and although I realize that is the best way it is just not motivating enough for me. I am all about instant gratification !!! Have been trying to find motivation but have just been in this funk so have not gotten there yet.

In a little over a month I will get to see Disneyland! I am looking forward to that however since it is a work trip and not family it is not as exciting for me...

Congrats to those who have met there goal (yeah!!) and dropped into a lower weight category ;). I do love to read about your successes!!!! Keep it up!

Vegging out I front of the tv watching the Olympics. So Gunnar go for now.

Will try to be more visible!!!!

This is so me:thumbsup2. I need to see the scale move to get motivated!! Need to get out of this rut!

I have been so lazy this weekend. It's been nice but nothing got done. We got our groceries for the week today and so far for the month of August we have spent $144. This should carry us until next Sunday so I think we are still doing well. We bought 25 lbs of boneless skinless chicken breasts today which should be enough for all of DH lunches this month. He eats a grilled chicken breast every day for lunch. He cooks them on the Foreman grill.

Tracey, Hope things get better for you at work. Maybe you can vent your frustrations into exercise:thumbsup2

Kollerbear, I read the article you posted and it was so discouraging! I've always hoped that with regular exercise I was boosting my metabolism. Now, I'm not so sure:confused3. I need to get back to daily exercising. I think at my age it is crucial.

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend dear friends and I will see you tomorrow

Shawnprincess:

Weighed in at my Dr. Friday at 318.2 and this morning I'm 316.8. Craziness!!! Gotta keep it dropping. My bff was wanting to go to DL in Dec well 31st for big midnight show. I think it would be neat but oh so crowded. My brother thinks we should wait till April when we'd have our tax refunds and that makes sense. So its looking like April might have a fighting chance for us to take Zoe for her first trip to DL. She's been to MK twice(at 2 and just a month shy of 6). With any luck I'll get decent full time work soon(and keep the panic and anxiety away) and think about taking Oct break Zoe gets at school to Florida and taking her to at least Epcot and AK. Now that gives me plenty to help motivate my exercise goals, or you would think.

Oh and Zoe and I may sign up for The Color Run in Jan it looks like a lot of fun. We'll probably do more walking. Last time I did the 5K route where its done was years ago and I was a lot lighter than now(Zoe rode most of it in a stroller). So told Zoe we'd have to start training since its 3 miles. The walking training will prepare me for Disney too. I'd like to be under 250 by April and that is a doable goal I think.

Other than that we've been busy. Getting stuff ready for school took Zoe shopping for shoes and a couple new outfits and oh my gosh her first pull over bras because she is worried about her little buddies showing through(and they do sometimes on some of her shirts). Ok I'm off to start laundry and maybe I'll make it back to catch up on reading here.

QOTD: groups I like to work with - PTO/A at my kids schools, RCIA at my church, fellow members at my workout class...

When my boys were your sons' ages, I too wanted to stay home. I really thought I was missing a lot and managing work and home can be real juggle. However, I had an older teacher (who is a dear friend and retired 4 years ago) tell me that teaching is the best job you can have as a mom and I really need to stick with it.

She had said that the most important time to be with your children are when they are teenagers. This is when they really need their parents. And you know what, she was so right (I always tell her this.) We had babysitters come to our house when we needed childcare and I bring up the names of the babysitters and my sons don't remember some of them.

However, my teenagers really need our guidance (even though they tell you they don't :rolleyes:) ) And once everyone is on a school schedule, it gets easier. Hope this makes you feel a little better. In an idea world being a stay-at-home mom would be great. I love my job, but I know you deal with some tough students. :grouphug:

This is so true! I know being a teacher rocks, but every year it gets harder & harder going back after summer break lol! And I am not looking forward to the teenage years. I wish I could freeze my boys at 9 & 6 :)

Catching up on QOTDs

QOTD~vacations?
•We really enjoy Topsail Island in North Carolina. I also like Hilton Head, Hatteras Island, and Pigeon Forge (but not the touristy stuff~mainly the national park).

QOTD~tours?
•We've never done a tour. I'm waiting until the kids get a little older so we can do one together. I'd like to do the snorkeling. Although, the Family Magic Tour looks lime fun & DS6 can finally go now!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I forgot a QOTD :( I'm on my phone again on the dis app & still can't figure out how to multi quote. Today was a horrible weigh in. I was up 2 pounds! I know I didn't eat the best the last two days, didn't have enough exercise this week, and I am so bloaty (Tom). Yuck. Hopefully, those 2 lbs will be gone by next Sunday (my WW weigh in day).
I think we are going camping tomorrow until Friday, so I'm not sure of my ability to check in. I'll try when I have service, but this campground doesn't have wifi. In fact, if we get a lake front site, we won't even have electric since it's a flood control lake (flows through a dam into a river that eventually flows to Pittsburgh) & the lake front site have flooded.
I have had a killer headache today & taken everything possible. It hasn't helped, so I am going to head to bed & put a heating pad under my neck/head. Good night all!
Jill
Don't you just hate it when you are out somewhere, and there are really no healthy eating options? I ran into that today. We went to Old Sturbridge Villiage for a Revolutionary War reenactment and had lunch but there were not many options for something healthy. I did not realize I COULD bring my own food in, so of course didn't even think to pack a lunch. I ended up with a turkey sandwhich and an apple which wasnt the worst choice but it was A LOT of bread!
The reenactment itself was very cool and I had a great day. Very educational and really a great experience. Best of all I got in for free!! The reenactment was free with admission into the villiage but it's 25 bucks to get into the villiage. One of the perks of working in a museum is I can get into many museums for free and this counted! For those who don't know Old Sturbridge Villiage is a villiage set in 1839...kind of like colonial williamsburg but smaller. It's a really neat place, I LOVED going there as a kid. If you are in the new engliand area and are ever looking for a day trip and have younger kids interested in this type of thing (history and such) I highly recommend it.
I did a lot of walking today too (war's are exhausting!) and it was HOT so I drank a ton of water!
All in all i'm really glad i went, I was debating because I was going with people from history club that i really didn't know that well, and i'm shy by nature (shocking considering every job i've ever had has involved public speaking) but I had a really good time.
I slacked on homework when I got home aka I didnt do any. So I have to do it tomorrow. last week of class, can't wait till it's over.
Good Morning friends - hope everyone had a great weekend.. Mine not too good..
Friday night I had a wake for my BFF's 31 yr old cousin to attend - she was a wonderful person and died unexpectedly and leaves an 8 yr old daughter behind (as well as parents siblings and grandparents)
Most of Saturday I babysat my BFF's gram - who has alzheimers - so the family could attend the funeral service and burial then they headed to a siblings house for the after service.. then Hubs and went out to dinner and grocery shopping and didn't get home till 9:30pm EEK
and yesterday I spent most of my day in the hospital becuase Hubs mom wasn't feeling well and my father in law callled the rescue and when all is said and done she didn't have pneumonia like we thought but congestive heart failure. so she got some lasiks (sp) to flush out the fluids and so antibiotics for a infection she has going on somewhere and today she'll have an echocardiogram to see how her heart (and the fluid) are doing - she has a mechanical value already due to a birth defect.
so there was some stress/bored/fustrated eating this weekend but am determinded to make so better choices this week .. i did manage to lose .3 of a pound..
:wave2:
Good Monday morning everyone.
Only 4 more days of teaching and I am done for the summer. I am glad that I did it but I wish I only did 3 weeks and not 5. Once it hit Aug I really didn't want to be in the classroom any more. But only 4 more days.
This is a picture from my favorite evening show at DW. I saw it for the first time either in 1978 or 1982 and have loved it since I saw it. DS went to DW 2 years ago and got it on video for me. I can't believe it still playing and I get to see it in a couple of weeks.
What is your favorite evening show?
:grouphug::grouphug: to those people who are having a tough time this week either with weight or life.
Off to get dressed and maybe grocery shop before I have to go teach.
Have a happy and healthy day.
Spectromagic is my favorite, which has been temporarily replaced with Main Street Electrical Parade (your favorite).
I hope it comes back soon! But after you get a chance to see your favorite in a few weeks.
Hey guys sorry I've been pretty much missing for the past month. I was steadily gaining since my last post and am currently about 138.8, which is about where I was when I returned from florida in June so not too bad. Sometime last week I finally kicked myself in the butt and maintained and started to work out again. I did Jillian Michaels on Thursday and realized I haven't actually lost too much muscle because the workout was fairly easy. Yesterday I did about 2.5 miles on the tm at 6mph which is the fastest I've ever gone. I've started to count my calories again and trying to plan out all my meals. I think I've got another wind of motivation in me now after a couple months of rest. So, I am sure I will join you once again for the fall challenge!
In other news I've been working pretty much full time at work so that's where I've been a majority of the time and if I'm not I'm trying to get some Disney books read and some knitting or cleaning done. Work just sucks up all the time!
In 2 weeks I'll be starting with classes again, but I'll be working on my major so I am pretty excited about that. I also found out there is a marathon held in my area every year, but they also have a half I can sign up for, it's in October just a few days before my 1 year anniversary of vegetarianism! I thought that'd be a fun way to celebrate and I've really got the itch for another one. I had such a great time for my first that I'd love to do another and it'd give me something to work towards, plus I'd like my family to be there to see me cross the finish this time. I was still considering it, but after posting this I think I've made my decision. ;)
QOTD: I love love love Spectromagic, unfortunately it's still MSEP the past 2 times we've been. I did read sometime yesterday that Spectro is returning March of 2013, not sure how accurate that is.
Have a wonderful day! :goodvibes
Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge Week 9!
This week’s group loss = 30.0 pounds!
Average percentage of weight lost 0.64 %
Total group weight loss so far 241.0 pounds!
AWESOME!
Retention Rate (compared to the 58 participants we had sign up for our start week on June 1st)
47% (this includes the Losers, Maintainers and Excused people!). Let's keep sending those weights people!
Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)
Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 9?
The WISH Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer 2012 Challenge Week 9 Superstars!!
NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!
NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.
How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.
Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.
Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.
We have done 9 out of 13 weeks, so the challenge is 69% complete.
Hi all,
Went to the dr this afternoon and she thinks I have a sprained ankle. Probably from overuse like going up and down the stairs helping my parents and doing 15 massages a week! So I'm on Naproxen 2x a day, ice and elevation whenever possible. Also have to switch to my sneakers for a few weeks. If it's not feeling better next week I already have an appt with an orthopedist on Wednesday morning. I told her about all the massages I am giving and she thinks I will probably be seeing the orthopedist! Hoping I hear about someone coming to help me at work. We will be rescheduling some of the massages as I can't do 4 on Saturday. 5 tomorrow is going to be hard enough. 3 during the day and 2 at night.
Kids have been good going up and down the stairs for me helping my parents and getting the ice for me. I have moments that it's not too bad and then really painful moments. Gotta figure out how to do the massages with the least amount of pain. I do have a small stool that I can kneel on and use my regular stool as much as possible.
Going to head to bed now.
Not happy with what the scale said but it's my own fault. I've not been able to exercise and I haven't been able to drink as much water as I need to. Gotta try and start doing my ab and arm workouts that are in my Kindle again. Unfortunately I won't be able to do the elliptical for awhile and I have to get training for my 5K next month.
TTFN :tigger:
I have potentially great and life changing news to share. Maybe it won't seem like a big deal to anyone who isn't me, but to me it's AMAZING news. I have finally talked to my mom and dad and we have decided together that quitting Petsmart is the best thing for me at this moment in time. Basically right now I'm getting about 4 hours a week there, and in the Fall i will only be able to work one day a week, and out new manager is crazy, things are not going well. This has been something that's a long time coming but I have to say it feels so right. I am going to see if I can work just holidays and school breaks, but knowing my manager she will not like that idea, and if she says no I will give her my two weeks.
I'm like nervous and ecstatic all at the same time. It feels like I'm ending a chapter of my life and starting a new one...just...wow. I don't know when I'll be able to finalize it, probably not till Wednesday or Thursday but it's happening!
Hi all,
Sorry I haven't been around much. A lot of things are just frustrating me right now and I haven't wanted to talk about it or had the energy to talk about it. Work is busy which is both good and bad. People are tipping horribly with their Groupons and we are all disgusted at their rudeness. We have a sign stating what's on the certificates and they ignore it. It's an insult! The other massage therapist quit today. She will cover my shift Tuesday night but is done after that. We can't seem go get another one to come to work. I've contacted schools and posted messages and one of the other girls has done the same. We will have to be rescheduling a whole lot of massages over the next two months plus I need to change my hours with the school year starting. I sent my boss a long email this morning. She gets back from vacation this weekend and had better get on the phone and find someone. It's a good thing I took certain weekends off in the fall. I have to go through the schedule and see what ones we need to reschedule.
Dad is getting out of rehab on Thursday. They will be having him have PT here while he is still here. My sister flies up on August 8th and they will leave here the next morning to drive back. I have to be at work early the morning they leave so everything had better be packed.
Mom went to NY to visit friends for a few days. I will go visit Dad tomorrow. She will be back on Tuesday. She wants me to go down on Monday too but I will have to see. Ash has a drs appt and Brian is working all day and overnight cleaning out his office. He starts working from home on Tuesday. He is meeting with an old co-worker on Wednesday night for dinner to discuss going to work for him. Monday will be a long day. Tuesday I have to work all day. Wednesday Ash has a short dentist appt and then we will finish getting the house ready for Dad to come home.
Still haven't lost all the weight from vacation but I'm ok with that. Trying not to overeat and drink too much!
On a positive note, I LOVE the OLYMPICS! Glad I have that to look forward to over the next two weeks.
Thanks for listening to my complaints! I know putting them on "paper" helps sometimes so I hope you didn't mind!
Enjoy the weekend! The RED SOX are leading the YANKEES so I'm happy for that too!
TTFN :tigger:
You really have alot going on right now :grouphug:. Hope it gets better. Sounds like people are just using the groupon as it was not meant to be used. Whenever I get discounts, I still tip for whatever the full amount would be, I've always accepted it is that way - and I tend to overtip - my hairdresser loves me!
I love the Olympics too. Watching the uneven bars while writing this.
Vent anytime. I have done that here often! It is great to let it all out and know we'll understand! I like that here :goodvibes!
Jesus Christ. I have no idea what I'll tell him, or if I'll even be able to speak. I'd like to tell him thank you for sure.
I think Thank You would be right...I don't know what else I could say either.
What is the healthiest snack you get at Disney? What is your guilty indulgence?
Healthy snack - oh my goodness...I do like some fruit salads, the kind without the whipped cream and such, just fresh fruit. And I like the shaved ice in Japan, but no idea how bad it might be either. It seems lighter, but that is syrup. It tastes so much better than a regular sno-cone, but my lips are red for quite awhile after that!
I like the Mickey bar. It is just an ice cream bar, but it is shaped like a mouse and I'm in Disney - it just tastes better! I need to have it once or twice while there. I also like the desserts at Boma and the funnel cake at Sleepy Hollow.
I'm trying the new dis app on my iPhone & have no clue how to multi-quote :( I had about 20 ppl to reply to since I haven't been on for 4 days! Oh well, just know that even though I haven't been on, I've been thinking of everyone.
Qotd~I didn't realize there were healthy snacks at Disney :) Although, fruit is probably the healthiest. I don't have just one guilty indulgence. I have about 3 per day lol. Ice cream & cupcakes probably top the list though. And anything from Goofy's Candy Co. Yum!
Ok now that I've rambled...I can't remember who all I was going to reply to & what I was going to say, but I hope everyone is staying positive even during frustrating times. Sometimes this feels like a never ending journey. And it is. I know I had a couple off track days, but I am right back at it. We can do this!
And holy smokes, July is coming to a close!! I'm not ready for August or back to school :( I start back Aug 27 and my kids start Aug 29. Noooooo!!! We decided we are definitely going to do a camping trip next week. It's a good way to end our summer.
Ok. I'm off to get some housework done. I'll try to check in daily since I can do so on my phone (I'm not on my computer much in the summer). And if anyone knows how to multi-quote on the dis app on an iPhone, share your secrets!
Jill
I don't use the new app. The only times I really tried to use it I have been on 4G, and it claims I don't have an internet connection. So I go to Safari and have the DIS bookmarked and read it there; I'm obviously connected, since Safari works just fine. I can't really do much on my phone, although I have sent a couple of PM's. It is just too small. I haven't tried on DS's iPad.
Summer is going fast, but I prefer it when DS is in school. Gets me back on a regular schedule, and I find it easier to do workouts. Once he recovers from his dental work, he is going to start running again with his team, they already started, but he was having his teeth pulled for the braces. Got his wires back on today, along with some rubber bands, but it is bothering him alot, so he probably won't be able to start running tomorrow.
Last week we went to the zoo after I got home but the enjoyable afternoon ended with the truck blowing a tire on a major highway. Luckily we were in the right hand lane and not too far from the shoulder.
I have been nursing a bad knee. I think it just stuff floating around like the other knee and it has moved to the wrong spot because some times it is fine and other times it is off.
I also have to get ready for my trip:yay::yay::yay: I can't believe it is only a couple weeks away. Dh seemed upset that I only bought PH passes and didn't get the water park option but we can always add it on when we get there.
How scary to have that happen! Glad nothing worse came of it.
Hear you with the knee. My arthritis is like that, comes and goes. Seems to have finally recovered from the trip, but hurting more often. Geez, getting old...:sad2:
You will need the water park in August! I'm waiting anxiously for our November trip, but alot to keep me busy until then. Have fun!
Aside fom walking, how else do you get exercise at Disney? Or do you have a special disney related exercise you do? For instance I have Toy Story on Wii. When I am needing exercise and a shot of Disney, I pop that in and play off the pounds.
Only walking - I figure that is more than enough, plus we are morning to night; we shower and sleep during our down time;)!
I did how ever have a set back this weekend and a big ol' lesson.
First, if you eat clean for a week and then eat what ever you want over the weekend, you will pay for it.
Set back - eating processed food and too many carbs but not enough fruit (ran out) and eating out. Also sugar. I've been pretty good about not eating sugar until this weekend.
Lesson - Your stomach will rebel! I have been so sick last night and this morning. Bloated, lethargic, migraines, and the shakes. You name it, I have it. Once it's out of your system, do not put it back in!!!!
Oh, yes, I learned that sometime ago :guilty: :crazy2:. After years of on and off dieting, I can't eat like I used to when I was in my 20's. But I can still overdo - you'd think the knowledge of what comes next would stop me, but when I'm on a tear...I do that sometimes, see the scale go down and let my guard down...that is killing me this challenge.
Three years ago I lost my mind and decided I wanted to become a mom all over again. Today is my lil princesses 3rd birthday. So in honor of her birthday, everybody gets to make a wish. No wishing for weightloss, that is a given. So close your eyes, blow out an imaginary candle, and share your wishes.
Happiness and health for my family; and a little bit of a financial windfall so I could stay home and help out with my DS's sport stuff (hard to get off of work early so often to shuttle him around, and he is shy about asking for lifts), and let him go to college wherever he wants!
OK todays question of the day is going to tickle your memories. What is the first ride at a Disney park that you remember going on?
I've been going back and forth on this since I read it. I think it was either 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or Small World. It was Disneyland when I was 14, and I remember riding 20,000 but not sure whether it was my first visit to WDW or there. I know we rode Small World - I don't remember it, but my Dad fell in love with it. He bought a record album and loved to play it - it did have other songs on it ;). My Dad had a big soft spot, and I love the ride because of his love for it.
:dance3:Thank God my DH isn't allowed in the room while i work out. This isn't pretty at all.
I work out in the living room, that is where we have the Wii and the DVD player. I usually can't work out unless he out or sleeping in...I can make it home from work during the school year and usually get sometime on my own before picking DS up from school (I get to work early and leave early since I have to pick him up from track. I didn't realize until later I did not need to leave that early, but I had my schedule set, so I just keep it that way - then I work out or take a walk).
The only thing I don't like, is that it's a strapless, so I get that awkward arm flab that hangs over my ****s at the top of the dress. I have 4 weeks till the wedding, so I'm going to look into workouts I can do to target that area.
I've challenged myself to do a little workout routine every night for a month. I do:
40 squats
24 lunges each leg
12 leg lifts each side
24 "mid air" crunches ( I dont know what they are really called)
36 bicycle crunches
36 reverse crunches
It is quite tiring, but not overly so, and im not sore the next day which is important. I figure it's just a small step but if I can do it EVERY night for a month that means something. Anyone have any advice of something I can add?? I'm thinking pushups, but at the moment I can only manage about 5 pushups.
Other than that, not much happening. The dogs are driving me crazy and some nights I can't get in my garage because of the skunk that lives in my yard! He likes to sit in my driveway
I have that same problem, I don't wear strapless or sleeveless. My fave tops is T-shirts or shirts with long short sleeve (not the short ones they have on ladies shirts nowadays, but like men's T-shirts) or long loose sleeves.
Good workout, not being sore motivates you to continue, so that is a good thing. Then you can just add on when you feel ready. I can't do the lunges or squates because of my knees, but I do crunches.
I don't know if I would get out of the car with a skunk staring me down. Is there such a thing as skunk repellent you could put down?
It's been such a busy week getting ready for our schedule to change... Matt started his job at my org. Tuesday morning! So odd to have him around. I had all of our food planned for the week on Saturday and even did a bunch of prep over the weekend. Plus the Olympics and 2 EARLY mornings at the office getting some year-end reports done that were due yesterday, and I just could not bring myself to sit down and get the laptop in gear! So here goes as I try to catch up a little:
I'm so sorry that you're going through this at work. I've heard that is a really common complaint for businesses that choose to use Groupon. I honestly don't buy them much anymore because I often feel really awkward using them... I don't have the income that I'd need to turn into a repeat customer at most of those places, and I know it's such a loss for the owner of a place and a pain for the staff if there's no real possibility of you turning into a full-paying customer. I really hope that your week went OK and that you feel a little bit better about work and all the other things hanging over your head... hopefully that women's gymnastics last night cheered you up, if nothing else! How cool was that??
Guilty Indulgence: It's ALWAYS gotta be Dole Whip. Although I haven't gotten a chance to try any of those cupcakes at Starring Rolls... so my answer might change next time I get to go!
I like the DIS app! But yes, I never write back on it, only read. Really cumbersome to do something like a multi-quote, I bet, and a little glitchy to boot.
Also, found an article in today's New York Times... "Dieting vs. Exercise for Weight Loss" I'm curious to hear what you all have to say. I personally cut exercise out of my weight loss plan because I was experiencing that it wasn't working for me (this was after training for a half marathon from zero, so I DID really give it a fair shot), and I've had a lot of success through diet only using some exercise to get over plateaus. I'm SURE that everyone is different, but this seemed really validating to me because a lot of people were really critical of my decision to stop running for weight loss reasons, but it really was the right choice for me. Eventually when a bit more of the weight is gone (in about 10 pounds or so) I'm going to ease back into a fitness routine for cardiovascular health, and just overall fitness. But I think the example that the researcher gives in the article is just CRAZY--she suggests that she's seen a woman BURN 500 calories in a work out in one day and then BURN FEWER CALORIES OVERALL THAT DAY than if you hadn't worked out AT ALL. :scared1: I feel like this must be an extreme example, but it's still really scary to think about, I'd NEVER have thought the metabolic rate shift was that dramatic.
Of COURSE I know all the benefits of exercise and I COMPLETELY BELIEVE that it can be a healthy and integral part of people's weight loss plan because hey--EVERYONE'S metabolism works differently and it's tough to generalize. But I think it's really interesting that the common wisdom just doesn't necessarily always prevail.
Yes, the Olympics are putting quite a crimp in my schedule too. It is nearly midnight and I have to get up at 5:45...and try to stay awake at work.
I've heard that about groupons as well - I guess that is why it is losing some popularity with businesses - they don't see the return business they were hoping for.
LOVED the gymnastics!
Haven't had the chance to read the article yet. I lost 55 pounds without exercise, mainly because my knees were giving me so much trouble with that extra weight. I want to exercise now because I need it at my age, to help with energy and flexibility, and aerobic for my heart. Motivation is still hard to come by tho :guilty:
I get these emails from a Disney related site weekly, and in one part of it people share their magical moments they have experienced at a Disney Park. They can be very simple like the cute couple being surprised by a cast member with a sundae just because they looked so sweet together, or a bit more elaborate like being chosen to be in a parade. Have any of you experienced a Disney Magical Moment?
We've had little moments, nothing huge. A custodian at AK overheard me talking about the paths by the Tree of Life to get a close up look. She approached us, offered to take us there, and gave us a running commentary about the park on the way over. And at the tree, she pointed out some animals I had not seen, including a well-camoflaged elephant! I went to Guest Services after that and filled out a card for her!
Another time we were riding BTMRR over and over at night, but had to wait in line. DH talked to a CM while DS and I were riding, and they met us at the exit. She asked which car I wanted to ride in (I like the back). She took us back in through a back entrance, and we stood in a special waiting area on the other side of the tracks. She then took us in and we were able to bypass the crowd and get on the train very quickly! It was so wonderful and unexpected!
Even on the phone, when I called and she gave asked me if I would like to save something on our room reservation and gave me a PIN without me asking! And then extended it to our friends who are traveling with us as well!
This actually made me lol. I was just picturing a skunk staring you down as you try to get in your house! We had raccoons in our neighborhood and they were coming on our front porch. One night, a mama & her 4 babies were climbing all over our furniture & she was a meanie! Well, DH put out a trap so he could move them out to a lake nearby, and we caught a skunk! We carefully approached it, covered it with a blanket, and DH drove it to the river in our town. He opened the cage, and that skunk took off running! I'm so glad we didn't get sprayed!
, but I keep telling him I need to watch the Olympics! Plus, I really want to get to bed before midnight tonight. I am avoiding all spoilers during the day and watching it all on prime time from 8-12. I am not getting enough sleep at all!! I'm not sure if I'll be able to check in tomorrow or Saturday, so have a great weekend!
My mom had a coon in her chimney, it got into the house once and wreaked havoc. They had to call someone it to trap it. The worse we have is squirrels in our attic, and once or twice we have had a bird in our house. One flew down through the chimney! Not sure if I want a fireplace in our next house!
Olympics are messing up my sleeping schedule. Our TV blew something Tuesday, so had been trying to watch it on computer, and that doesn't show the highlights, but everything. Had Thursday off, so that helped. TV is working now, but not HD. Found out the fix would be around $500! And the TV is only 1 1/2 years old! So DH is going to try a few things...I really don't think we want to spend that kind of money right now.
I just signed on and as soon as I did I remembered that it was my week to post QOTD.
This is a picture of dh. He took a group of scouts and parents to Florida Sea Base in the Florida Keys.
What places besides DW do like to vacation to?
We've been to Mt Rushmore and the Rocky Mountains, planning to take a trip to Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. Still would like to go to Niagara Falls, and Germany is in a few more years. That was going to be DS's graduation trip, but we have to postpone it one year because we have a family reunion going on the year he graduates. Would like to take a cruise as well, probably once DS goes to college.
I have an announcement!
I AM OVERWEIGHT!!!!
As of this morning, I am no longer OBESE!!! I will NEVER see OBESE again!! I have 30-40 pounds to hit goal, no clue what goal is until I get there and see how I feel....but I am now according to BMI officially Overweight!! And claiming the 70 pound clippie!! I can not wait to claim that 100 pound clippie and hope to do it by New Year's...for any that are just having a hard time getting in the groove, stick with it! Those first 20 pounds of any loss are the hardest! I finally feel like I"m in the groove and do not crave as much junk as I used to or have emotional eating days when I'd only have a maintain or low loss week...I'm plugging in and making this body respect my wishes!! :)
Congrats :cheer2:! You're doing great. The 70 pound clippie looks great! I have to try to get back to my 55 pounder!
Have you ever done a special tour while in Disney?
Not yet, but once DH turns 16, if we make it back (going to be very busy these next couple of years), want to do Keys to the Kingdom and a few others. I would love to see more about the inner workings!
I get the celebrating thing, I do the same thing, I am good for 6 days then if I see that scale move it's like I feel I can be 'normal' for a day...yesterday I had hash browns for breakfast, turkey/swiss slice for lunch and a peach, then dinner I had to try a new restaurant that just opened (Jimmy Johns)....I ate only half the sandwich (roast beef) but then later finished it and the bag of chips it came with! It may not sound like a lot, but that was a big sandwich! And I never eat white bread, so I felt really guilty. Oh, and I had a serving of mint chocolate chip ice cream...all around, not what I do on a losing basis...but not kicking myself, just motivated to make the next 25 days NON cheat days!! Our 20th anniversary is the 29th...I can make this sacrifice to pull off some big numbers on the scale!! I would love to be in the 180s for my anniversary and if possible 170s by the time we take our anniversary cruise!! (9/8)
I do the same thing - then wonder what came over me...I want to get down to 160 for our trip to WDW in November - that is about 16 lbs, and it's not going very fast.
This is a picture of my friend's first pillowcase day. We make pillowcases for kids with cancer. They are given out to local hospitals and some hospitals in NY and Philla.
Do you have a favorite group that you like to work with?
I wish I had more time. I do help out with his track stuff, but other than that I am not as involved as I used to be. Would like to start going to church again, and get involved with that and maybe working with children once DS goes off to college. I really miss children from my teaching days.
Good Morning friends - hope everyone had a great weekend.. Mine not too good..
Friday night I had a wake for my BFF's 31 yr old cousin to attend - she was a wonderful person and died unexpectedly and leaves an 8 yr old daughter behind (as well as parents siblings and grandparents)
Most of Saturday I babysat my BFF's gram - who has alzheimers - so the family could attend the funeral service and burial then they headed to a siblings house for the after service.. then Hubs and went out to dinner and grocery shopping and didn't get home till 9:30pm EEK
and yesterday I spent most of my day in the hospital becuase Hubs mom wasn't feeling well and my father in law callled the rescue and when all is said and done she didn't have pneumonia like we thought but congestive heart failure. so she got some lasiks (sp) to flush out the fluids and so antibiotics for a infection she has going on somewhere and today she'll have an echocardiogram to see how her heart (and the fluid) are doing - she has a mechanical value already due to a birth defect.
so there was some stress/bored/fustrated eating this weekend but am determinded to make so better choices this week .. i did manage to lose .3 of a pound..
With what you were going through, losing is amazing.
This is a picture from my favorite evening show at DW. I saw it for the first time either in 1978 or 1982 and have loved it since I saw it. DS went to DW 2 years ago and got it on video for me. I can't believe it still playing and I get to see it in a couple of weeks.
What is your favorite evening show?
My favorite is Wishes. I always find myself crying! Hallowishes I love too, but we are not making MNSSHP this year.
Went to the dr this afternoon and she thinks I have a sprained ankle. Probably from overuse like going up and down the stairs helping my parents and doing 15 massages a week! So I'm on Naproxen 2x a day, ice and elevation whenever possible. Also have to switch to my sneakers for a few weeks. If it's not feeling better next week I already have an appt with an orthopedist on Wednesday morning. I told her about all the massages I am giving and she thinks I will probably be seeing the orthopedist! Hoping I hear about someone coming to help me at work. We will be rescheduling some of the massages as I can't do 4 on Saturday. 5 tomorrow is going to be hard enough. 3 during the day and 2 at night.
Kids have been good going up and down the stairs for me helping my parents and getting the ice for me. I have moments that it's not too bad and then really painful moments. Gotta figure out how to do the massages with the least amount of pain. I do have a small stool that I can kneel on and use my regular stool as much as possible.
Take care of yourself, those ankle sprains are nasty things.
Well, it's late, need to get to bed but wanted to finish this.
DS is suffering through his dental work. Got 4 teeth pulled and they will move his other teeth - I vaguely remember having that done when I got braces. They put rubber bands in to pull the teeth around, and it is causing him a great deal of discomfort, hoping it will ease up soon. He was back to applesauce and tomatoe soup and milk today - as long as he did not need to chew. And I need to make sure he had enough to eat so he can take Advil as well. Poor guy, I feel so bad for him.
Our TV suffered a power surge or something. Our cable box got messed up during a storm, and our Blu-Ray appears not to work. All the HDMI ports on our TV do not work, and it will cost way to much to fix, so DH thinks he knows a way to get HD without spending that kind of money. He managed to plug in the new cable box with another cable -not HD, but at least we can watch the Olympics.
Planning a quick trip to Mt Vernon for DS's AP History class. He had some stuff to do over the summer - boy, we waited until the bitter end...but have never made it there, so it should be interesting.
Work is crazy, and I am overtired due to staying up late watching the games. Oh well, this is the last week for another two years :rolleyes:.
Getting ready to coach next week, pulled up some ideas from the last challenge, hope I don't repeat...;)
To bed, have a great tomorrow everyone!
Carol
