Since it sounded like most of our BL challenge folks wanted a separate thread for BL show chit chat -- here it is! :goodvibes

Premiere is tonight. I've heard they've called out the Marines to help with the training! :scared1:

I heard that this morning too! I kind of got excited  - my policeman friend was a Marine when we were dating oh so many years ago so I have a soft spot for them, which is probably also why it was so easy for Lindsay to talk me into running the MCM10k! Although, I can honestly say I don't want to have them yelling at me during a workout (or any other time, really)! But I won't mind if one has to catch me when I pass out at the race :lmao: !

Thanks for starting this thread Lisa! Can't wait to watch tonight and discuss!

Yeah, especially if he had to give you mouth-to-mouth! ;)

You are so funny bree. I have a thing for firefighters in uniform so maybe thats why I chose to do the NYC race this weekend.:lmao:

Thanks for starting the thread lisa. I am excited to watch tonight too.

I never get to watch the show until the next day but I don't mind reading spoilers. Was it exciting? Sad? What was with half the people going below the yellow line? :confused3

Watching it right now. It's starting differently than they have ever done before. I'm enjoying it a lot. It is sad and inspiring. I don't want to give too much away.

I'll be back to chat more once others say they have watched it.

yes I would agree a bunch of emotional and scary moments. I like the start of this one. I missed some parts of it but overall I thought it was a great start.

DS and I watched last night, I was disappointed that there were no Marines ;) - just means I'll have to wait 'til next week. I cried pretty much the whole way through as per usual. It is definitely sad, somewhat inspiring I guess. But the one thing that always gets me about the beginning of the season is that these people put so much hope in being on the show. At my heaviest a few years ago I was 252 pounds - it never occurred to me that the only way I could begin this journey was to be on a television show :confused3 ? If you want to lose weight so badly, just start making changes, don't wait around for an opportunity to be on a tv show - kwim? Granted, it has taken me a few years (of on and off effort) to lose over 50 pounds and I'm not at my goal weight yet, and on the show they could lose that much in a few weeks. But still, "I didn't make BL so I'm just going to keep doing the same thing until I can try out again" isn't the same as "I want to lose this weight and I'll do anything to do it". There were a few ladies featured (not possible contestants, just people in the crowds) and their stories were along the lines of "the show inspired me to lose weight and I did it and I want to show others it can be done". Those are the people who were inspirational to me.

Lisa - I'm on the fence about the mouth to mouth - after all, if I need mouth to mouth I won't really be able to enjoy it :lmao: !

Lindsay - I bet you loved the show a couple of seasons ago when Alan got all the firefighters together for the workout with Jillian and Bob ;) ! Good luck this weekend!

Okay... I'm ready to chat!! I really liked last night's show.... but WOW.... so many sad, sad stories!! Kind of makes me feel "guilty" for having been fat. I don't have any kind of sob story to fall back on... no big excuse for comfort eating.

A few people surprised me. I really thought that the woman who was the BC survivor would be first across the finish line.... I mean, her doctor told her that if she wants to continue to win her fight with BC, she needs to LOSE WEIGHT... what better motivator.... yet she was LAST!! Either her heart wasn't in it all the way, or she is truly in deplorable shape.

And the woman who's daughter stopped eating and drinking so that she wouldn't be "fat" like her mother.....:scared1:OMG... that had me crying and clutching my heart!! As a Mom I was CRUSHED by that!! That woman made it on the show.... how could she NOT... I mean..... her DD was right there as a reminder that she was (without meaning to) failing her kids!!

And the young guy who passed out 20 yards before the finish line of the 1 mi race... I felt so bad for him and his wife. Yet he is supposed to be a "life coach"?? It seems like he realizes that he needs to get his own life under control before he tries to coach others.

What I found most stunning was how very, very YOUNG most of these people were!! Many were in their mid-20's and morbidly obese and totally out of shape. SO SAD!!!! This country is TRULY in a CRISIS with regards to obesity.

I went to sleep last night feeling SO strongly motivated to lose these last stupid 5-7 pounsd I want GONE! I saved the show on my DVR for DD to watch. I'm going to watch it again this morning while I finish up a project. Does anyone know if any of the past seasons are available anywhere? I know they used to be on the Style Network, but we changed programming packages and don't get that channel anymore............P

It was a different way to start a new season. I would've preferred for them to have already chosen the contestants and started with week 1 on the ranch. I also think they show TOO MUCH in the previews for the following week's show.

I found this show very motivating as well.Like someone said the ages of these people were alarming. Some sad, sad stories.I have no story just no control.

Linda

Just watched on hulu finally. A lot of them are so young. I'm so proud of the 50 somethings though. They rocked it. That one beating the younger ones. Amazing!

The gal with the brother that just passed in his sleep is but one of the sad stories but I think it hit me the hardest that it can and does happen just like that. Scary thought!

Finally got to watch last night (DD is not allowed TV during the week, so we watch together on Sat). Many sad stories, and so many of them really young people. They showed quite a bit in the preview, including those yummy marines. ;) Also, those who didn't make it may have a chance to get on the ranch at some point, just another twist those evil minds at NBC come up with.

I think it will be a good season, looking forward to being motivated by the show.

And now I'm finally caught up, just in time to be behind for this week! :rotfl2:

Ok, I am not a big fan of the way the show started. I don't want to see that third person not make it, it was just depressing, because some of them really seemed to give up and think they had failed at that point.

I was also appalled at how difficult it was for some people to move themselves one mile. It's one mile -- how do you get around if you can't move that far? :confused3 If they were going to do it that way, some of the challenges should have been mental instead of physical. Mental is much harder anyway, I think. ::yes:: Maybe the theory is that when you are that out of shape, the physical is tougher...

I'll be glad to actually make it to the Ranch this week! I was also struck (like a PP) by how many seemed to think they couldn't do anything without BL. As I believe Yoda said, "That, is why you fail". They have no faith in themselves, which is really sad.

Here's hoping we see Bob and Jil whippin' em into shape and helping them develop some self esteem!

Maria :upsidedow

I know what you mean, Maria. I was kind of hoping maybe some of those elimated folks would end up showing up later. I didn't do a good job of keeping track of the winners, etc., because I watched it in bits and pieces.
I'm sure it is hard to be on the BL team with so many people who need the chance at the show and so few slots to give.

I'm intrigued by the whole half of you fall below the yellow line thing tonight.

I never get to watch the show until later so I'm counting on you guys to tell me what happened.

Good show, but Bob and Jillian (especially) seemed really mean this week!

I think that they need to start that way to kick these people into shape. I think if you start out all mushy and lovey and warm and fuzzy, these contestants will be complacent. They NEED to have their butts kicked! And Jillian and Bob are the people to do it!

I was kind of amused but kind of horrified at all the vomiting going on!! At least it might help with the weight loss....:lmao:

I was glad to see everyone pulling pretty decent numbers on the scale. I get mad when they don't..... I figure they were given a chance that someone else would give their teeth to get and if they aren't going to give it a full on attempt, then BOW OUT and let someone else have the spot!

As for the person sent home..... I felt bad, but it is too early in the "game" to see if that was the best choice. This early on it is too soon to base the decision on "game".... it is more just personal feelings. I'm sure she was upset, but she looks great and seems to be well on her way. Sad though, about the thing with her Mom (I won't say more in case someone hasn't watched it yet). I can't imagine NOT supporting my DD in ANY WAY I COULD regarding something like this that could potentially impact her health in such a huge way!

Anyhow.... I might watch a bit of it again while I am on the TM this morning to help me push myself to MY limit (with no vomiting involved, of course;)).....................P

I only have three words to say about last night's show... Still No Marines :sad1: ! :lmao:

I liked how they shook things up a little. All of the contestants were obviously familiar with the show, I think it's good that the producers or whoever are keeping them on their toes!

And, when they were running up to the gym cheering, all I could think is "that is not a good idea"! :rotfl2:

Pamela - The puking didn't really phase me (although I'd hate to be the one to have to clean those treadmills!) but the snot completely grossed me out, I totally had to turn away from the TV until he wiped his nose!

Talk to you all later.

Bree
