Welcome Kevin!!
Ugh its monday. Not having a good day. Dh and decided to sit down over the weekend and figure out if we are going on vacation in 3 days and guess what? We never sat down, so our trip is still up in the air. I hate being so undecided. I am thinking of just canceling it so I know whats happening, but then I think about not going and I want to go, so I dont want to cancel unless we have to!

I cleared my schedule, so it is all up to dh, if he can move things around.
To make matters more fun though, this morning I came down with thrush!

I feel like a newborn. I am on steroids for a mosquito attack (59 bites) I suffered a week ago and it seems those drugs caused this illness. I am waiting for my doc to tell me if I have to take another drug to get rid of the thrush. This is why I avoid taking meds. The side effects on me are killer.
I'm so sorry about all of this. How did you end up with so many mosquito bites?? Fingers crossed that you get better quickly and can enjoy a vacation!
Wow congrats to DD. How exciting for her. You are such a great mom for driving your kids around and supporting them in everything they choose to do. If they dont already now they will definitely appreciate what you do for them so much one day.
Awww.... thanks! I know they will appreciate it someday. And sometimes they actually appreciate it now!
In the spirit of refocusing on my healthy eating:
I tried a really good recipe yesterday. I have the pampered c. covered baking dish aka magic pot. I used chicken breast, green/red pepper, onion, and a bbq seasoning rub. Put it all in the pot, cooked it for 12 minutes in the microwave and then shredded up the chicken to be served on rolls or eaten without the carbs. It was delicious and healthy. I got the magic pot a month or so ago and it has been so helpful in trying to get some substantial healthy dinners in during the week when we are busy with football practice and other stuff.
Just wanted to share for anyone else who may have trouble getting out good meals during the week and/or weekend when things are insanely busy. You can also do other meats or even veggies and casseroles. I am not a consultant and I am not trying to market for this company but it has been an amazing kitchen tool that I have found to be so useful for healthy living.
Have a great rest of the day!!!!
That magic pot sounds really great! Maybe a good alternative to the days when I forget to load the crockpot in the morning or when the men are home alone. Why didn't I see this all those times I got invited to a PC party and didn't know what to order??
The world should be full of color - especially on your dinner plate!
I've always struggled with having a colorful plate - but I'm really going to make a conscious effort to try new vegetables and fruits at meals. The more I try, the better the chance I will find more healthy food choices that I like.
For years I thought I hated broccoli. I tried it as a kid and was not a fan - but after trying it again last year (for the first time in over 20 years), it turns out I really like it. Who knows if my tastes just changed or what? But hopefully I will discover some more vegetables and fruits that I can add to my favorites list.
Maybe when you had it before it wasn't cooked to your liking. I find that overcooked broccoli is

For most of my family, we like it lightly steamed with still a bit of crunch to the stems, or roasted in the oven or on the grill. I also like it in a cold broccoli salad. And we mostly just like fresh, but will have frozen occasionally if necessary.
But tastes do change also. I am STILL finding that I am learning to like veggies that I didn't like as a kid. It has been a progress since my late teens. That is why I continue to try things even if I "think" that I don't like them. SO far the only veggies that I still don't care for are lima beans and turnip.... but even those I will eat if it is served.
SO keep trying! Try new recipes and new cooking techniques. You never know when you might hit upon a new "favorite" veggie!
PAMELA -- Good luck with the job application
Thanks.... I'm kind of excited about it and hope it pans out. It is a company I've been thinking about working with for years. I really hope they give me a chance.
Nothing much going on around here today. Alan's been dealing with a headache and hoping it will go away by morning. We got laundry finished up and folded. I got most of my bag packed except the last minute things I'll throw in before we leave. We got my one medication filled so I don't have to worry about that. The cameras are charged and ready to go.
We're staying at Baylake Tower in a studio lake view using our DVC. This will be the 1st time we've stayed in a studio there so it'll be interesting to see how small they are. We're bringing stuff for breakfast and lunch that we'll eat in the room. So it'll help cut down on food costs. I'm taking my pedometer and my refillable water bottle to use while I'm in the parks.
Now, I'm off to check the weather report!
Toodles!
WOOHOO.... BLT, here you come! I hope Alan is feeling better soon. What kinds of foods do you bring for the room? I know I frequently travel with at least breakfast foods, but since we don't always have a fridge, I've had to develop some plans/ideas for healthy foods without refrigeration or cooking! IT has been tricky. I'd love to hear your ideas.
It has been a long day at work today... Don't really want to go into all the details but finally getting to go on your lunch break when you have an hour left of your shift is a hoot...
So needless to say, I'm in a FABULOUS mood right now... Not to mention the fact that since I got to go to lunch an hour before I'd be eating dinner, I ended up just eating pudding and a fruit cup on my break, making my total calories at this point about 600. (I try to eat about 1,600 per day) Not the best food day today... So I'm trying to figure out what I want for dinner. We have leftover fried fish but I really don't feel like picking it off the bone so I may do the baked chicken instead.
Shoulder and knee is really hurting today so I think I'll just chill out tonight.
Hope everyone had a great Monday!
Yikes.... sounds like a crazy day!

Take care of that shoulder and knee. Maybe you were feeling "HANGRY" (so hungry you were actually angry). I know I can get like that.

And speaking of food, do you know what 300 calories looks like?
300 calories look drastically different when you're eating in instead of dining out. Choosing healthier, more nutritious foods--at home and away--means you can eat much more food and still lose weight.
Breakfast: 300-Calorie Meals & Portions
Here are three morning meals that each weigh in at 300 calories. Healthy and quick homemade meals pack whole grains, fresh fruit, and protein--a filling combination that will keep you fuller longer. You could only eat a fraction of the comparable restaurant meals (right column) for the same number of calories. Get more healthy breakfast ideas here.

Which leads me to the QOTD for Tuesday, September 11, 2012: Are you surprised by how much (or little) you can eat for the calories, depending on which foods you choose? Which meal was most shocking to you?
OH MY GOSH! Were you in my car last night when I was talking to my Mom??? We had JUST THIS conversation! We were talking about how surprised most folks would be at the ingredients and calories in what they were eating on a daily basis. We were mostly thinking of the unhealthy ingredients, but we were also talking about calories.
For example..... on the old WW Points system, I am allowed a daily quota of 18 Points. A Dunkin Donuts reduced-fat blueberry muffin... sounds like a good choice right?? You got "fruit" and it is "reduced fat".... so it must be a good choice. How about 8 points!??

Yup... nearly HALF of my daily Points! So imagine how many points a REGULAR muffin must be??? And that is without any sort of drink. And let's face it... there is NOTHING healthy about this choice. White flour, white sugar (and probably lots of it to replace the reduced fat), artificial blueberry flavor (I'm guessing here).
Anyhow..... I have come across many many meals and snacks over the past few years that have been SHOCKING in their calorie/Points count and ingredients. I've learned the hard way to try to ALWAYS know the calories/Points in an item BEFORE eating it! Sometimes the most innocent sounding item (like a reduced fat muffin) can be a calorie landmine!
I have developed a small "cheat sheet" and idea card for meals that I can eat out (fast food, chain restaurants, etc). I'd be happy to try to find the original in my computer and share it for anyone who might be interested. I have it done in terms of Points, but I could certainly add calories if it would help.
I think that the most shocking thing that comes to mind was some sort of coffee toffee Frosty concotion from Wendy's (about 2 years ago). I think I had figured it (in my head) to probably be about 8 points. I really wanted to try it and wanted a treat that day, so decided to go ahead. Imagine my surprise when I got home and looked it up and discovered it was actually 13 Points!
9/10 Quote of the day
There was a time when you were five years old,
and you woke up full of awesome.
You knew you were awesome.
You loved yourself.
You thought you were beautiful,
even with missing teeth and messy hair and mismatched socks inside your grubby sneakers.
You loved your body, and the things it could do.
You thought you were strong.
You knew you were smart.
Do you still have it?
The awesome.
Did someone take it from you?
Did you let them?
Did you hand it over, because someone told you weren’t beautiful enough, thin enough, smart enough, good enough?
Why the hell would you listen to them?
Did you consider they might be full of crap?
Wouldn’t that be nuts, to tell my little girl below that in another five or ten years she might hate herself because she doesn’t look like a starving and Photoshopped fashion model?
Or even more bizarre, that she should be sexy over smart, beautiful over bold?
Are you freaking kidding me?
Look at her. She is full of awesome.
You were, once. Maybe you still are. Maybe you are in the process of getting it back.
All I know is that if you aren’t waking up feeling like this about yourself, you are really missing out.

Thanks for this! I gave it to my kids last time you posted it. Not a lot of feedback from them, but I think they appreciated it. Maybe I need to show it to them again.
And Buffy.... YOU are awesome my friend!
not really feeling up to responding, I've had one hell of a day.
My schedule has just gotten compounded tenfold. DS11 is in the High school play, plus DS10 and DS11 started Cross Country today and I only had one hour notice that it started.
And it looks like I will be the asst coach because the old one bailed because of the coaches flakiness.
I'm going to need a vacation come November 1!!!
YIKES! I can SO relate to the "coach flakiness" issues. DD's YMCA swim team has had a MAJOR shake-up this fall, due to some coaching issues over the summer. Sadly, we lost our two fastest female swimmers in DD's age group, plus our fastest male swimmer (also in DD's age group).... plus they were all good friends of DD. She is feeling really devastated that her last year with this group won't be the "special" time she wanted it to be and I am sad for her (plus I will definitely miss a few of the parents). I told her she needs to go ahead and make it the BEST it can be and she can't worry too much about the choices that others make. With just one year left, she (and I) didn't feel like she was in a position to change teams now. This team has definitely been like family to DD over the past 8 years, so it is a definite loss, but we are trying to make the best of it.
BTW.... maybe this coaching will get you out and moving when you might otherwise not?? Try to think of it that way!

I would have to say the Nutrigrain waffles picture shocked me! We don't have waffles in our house since my middle son who struggles with weight loss use to eat waffles all the time ... and it helped to lead him to being overweight. I am going to have to check those out in the grocery store.
Don't be too fooled into thinking that they are a great choice. They are certainly better than your standard "white" waffle, but you could probably make better, healthier, lighter waffles yourself at home. And limit it to one waffle, plus a protein and fruit. Personally, I would never eat both 2 waffles AND yogurt. It would be one or the other (plus protein if I were eating the waffle or a bit of carb if I were eating the yogurt).... maybe one waffle and half of the yogurt??
I have to say ... when I use MFP, I am shocked at the caloric value of some foods. My lunch is usually grilled salmon and broccoli. It is so nutritious and so low in calories. Now, I just have to stop all the junk eating when I get home!
I am feeling good that I logged all my food today. I went over a little ... but I am taking steps to get back on the wagon. I was hoping to walk with a friend this evening, but I had to take my mom to a doctor's appt and the doctor was an hour behind. I didn't get home until 6:00. Thankfully my DH had dinner on. I had to cancel walking since I have school work to get done and I am putting if off ..... chit-chatting with all of you!
Hope you got your school work done!
And let me guess... was the doctor an Orthopaedist?? They are the WORST at running late!
Thanks for sharing this Buffy. I live with magical awesomeness all day long and love it! I have one of my reluctant readers/writers making a Star Wars book with me (since he LOVES Star Wars) and you would think were were writing the next NY bestseller.
That is GREAT!
All of us are AWESOME on this thread .... and don't let anyone make you believe you are not!
Okay ... I do have to get my work done ....
Yes we are!
I weighed in today and was up .2 after being up 3.0 last week. Time to get back on track. I am hoping to do the Komen 3 Day next year as well as the Hy-Vee Triathlon. I have to do better.
I found out that I have multiple food allergies several months ago through IGG antibody testing. This is apparently what was causing IBS. I am allergic to beef, casein (which is in dairy), gluten, and eggs. So basically, I am a gluten free vegan, except that I just haven't done it. I need some motivation to really eat better. I know I'll feel better but it's just so much easier to get drive through which is not allergy friendly. I need to do better.
Sounds like you are definitely up against some major food challenges. Hopefully you can find some things that work for you without making you sick.
I am amazed at some things mostly those at resturants or fast food. Like the natural grilled chicken sandwich and fries at red robins was over 1000 calories. Not that I thought it was healthy but was just blown away by how much the calories actually were. I never counted calories much until a few months ago but it is definitely an eye opener.
Restaurant chains throw words like "natural" and "light" all over stuff to give it a "healthy halo." People see those words and they automatically start thinking that the foods are low calorie, etc. But even if the foods are actually HEALTHY, the portion sizes are crazy. Check out the NI for most restaurants and you will find that the portion you are buying is actually TWO servings (or more!). I think many folks who try to at least look at the NI are fooled by this often-overlooked fact.
LOVE THIS!!!!! My son who is 7 has a tshirt that says hello my name is AWESOME.

We should all have one of those
I'd love to have a t-shirt like that for my kids.
Fear nothing but Fear itself........
Most of us are afraid of failure but I always think its better to try and fail than to not try at all. Nothing is impossible when you really put your mind to it. I like your new outlook!!!!!
I enjoyed a quiet night with my family. We dont get many of these and tomorrow we are back to running around like crazy. I have a pork tenderloin ready for the crockpot and we are going to eat that with a veggie for dinner tomorrow. That will be 2 nights in a row that I planned ahead for dinner. You guys are helping me already and you didnt even know it.
Don't you LOVE it when dinner is prepared? Do you love the "you" that thought ahead and took the time to get it in the crockpot? I love, love, love my crockpot! Just wish I could find more healthy meals for it. SO many crockpot recipes start with "cream of chemical" soup.
Off to bed to get my 8hrs of beauty sleep. Have a great evening.
I'm going to have to go with
If you don’t like it, don’t eat it. I made this mistake the last time I lost weight. Lots of frozen meals were eaten. Each portion was perfectly measured. But when I got sick of Smart Ones, I was done. I had no tools for preparing healthy, DELICIOUS meals for myself.
This time I haven't eaten ANYTHING that comes out of a cardboard box. That right there has eliminated 99% of my problems. That one rule sums up my entire diet strategy. Food has never tasted so good!
That is a GREAT change! The occasional Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine is okay in a pinch, but I imagine that folks who rely on them eventually fail. They have not developed any skills for eating REAL FOOD! And I don't know about you, but I get real sick of the taste of those frozen meals.... there is something in them that is
after a while.
I had a GREAT day at the water park on Sunday! I had a very healthy breakfast and I stuck to my healthy picnic lunch. I didn't let the ice cream, funnel cakes, and fried goodies inside the park tempt me at all. However, on the way home, we stopped at my favorite Mexican restaurant... and it was all over.
I ate shrimp enchiladas covered in cheesy calorie-laden sauce, super nachos, chips and salsa, and a margarita... or two. And after all that I feel... happy!
Hey, it was just one meal. Every so often going out to eat with my friends and letting it all go is worth it. Not to mention the endless stairs at the water park yesterday had to have earned me SOME leeway. Today was back on track, and all went well. No ill effects from a few indiscretions yesterday, I was just as happy with my usual foods.
And I got in a nice six mile run tonight too. I felt great afterwards. I'm really starting to feel like I've got the hang of this running stuff.
Since I haven't been counting calories this time, nothing has really shocked me. BUT when I first did Weight Watchers years ago, I can't tell you how dismayed I was to learn the points value of my beloved large M&M McFlurry. I truly love those unholy hybrids of ice cream and milkshakes, and before I knew the truth I would eat them multiple times a week. Since... I've maybe had one a year! Oh how sad. I can't remember now exactly what the points are, but internet tells me they have about 900 calories. Not a whole day's worth of calories (not quite) but combined with the french fries I would sometimes order... just not good.
Sounds like you had a fun day! And enjoying a splurge meal and then getting RIGHT BACK ON TRACK is great! It is the splurge meal that turns into a splurge day that turns into a splurge week, etc. that is the problem.
***************
Happy Sunny Tuesday friends! Chilly night here in the North Country! I woke up cold during the night, closed a few windows, put on some fuzzy socks and a hoodie and climbed back in bed!

They were predicting some frost north of us. Time to bring in the house plants from their summer vacation on the porch!
Got up and moving quickly this morning, as I thought my Tuesday morning Bible Study started today.... and then checked the date and realized it starts next Tuesday! Oh well. At least I wasn't dressed yet....and I have an ironed outfit ready for next week!
Not sure what is on the agenda for today. Probably hang out a load of wash, since the sun has made an appearance. And maybe a third coat of paint on the front steps so I can call that job done. Perhaps even sanding the bulkhead and getting a coat of paint on that?? We'll see. Of course, nothing will get done if I don't stop sitting here drinking coffee!!
Seriously, there are SO MANY chores that have been neglected around here for far too long.... it is hard to decide what to do first! I am trying to prioritize the ones that require decent weather to get done now, before it gets cold. SO obviously the painting should be done first. The attic and basement clean-outs can wait for colder temps.
I'm also trying to prioritize what actually NEEDS to be done versus what I would LIKE to be done. Our front step lights are in good shape, but they have faded a bit and I would like to take them down and spray them black.... but that is definitely a "want" versus a "need". Plus the decent spray paint would probably be $8/can and I would probably need 3-4 cans. Not sure I want to spend the $$ right now.
Anyhow, as usual, I am RAMBLING here!
Off to spend a few minutes on Pinterest looking up some healthy crockpot recipes. If I find anything good, I'll share it with you all!.................P
