I would love to join this challenge. What a great way to put my love for Dis and BL together!!! I am excited!!!! : )

I'm back in this season. One thread will be a disaster but I prefer it anyway. When we divide into teams I miss the people on the other teams!

Welcome Cinderella Girl!

And welcome back, Raenstorm. One thread is a bit intense at first but there is lots of good info and it's manageable fairly quickly.

The plan is to let the poll run its course at the end of the week. Do a little fine tuning and post the new thread some time next week.

Don't forget to keep using the old summer thread until the final results are posted.

For you new folks feel free to drop in and chat on the summer thread -- we don't bite! :rotfl:

I voted for separate threads at first and then merging later. One large thread can get overwhelming especially if I'm not able to check in every day. Looking forward to starting.

:woohoo: I am so ready for BL8!

I'd be happy to coach again -- I just can't do it around Thanksgiving. I'd also prefer sometime later in the season, since I have yet to complete my Summer BL coaching yet!

I like the simple calculation. I think it's really discouraging when you gain then lose, and it seems like it doesn't count...but then again I'm not a very Big Loser. I'm very big, but I don't lose much! :rotfl2:

That's an excellent point.
I think I was turned off the simple way when was the Biggest Loser last week, and I felt like I was cheating when I'd been a gain the previous week (partly TOM) and so had a big loss.

So, as it stands, I'm completely wishy-washy and can see benefits to both methods.
So I'm going to take the simple way, and each week the results will truly be the results for the week.
The totals, or Challenge-to-date results will be a comparison of starting to current.

This summer, weigh-in day was Friday, and I tried posting reminder posts of who hadn't reported in yet on Sunday or Monday. Everytime I did that I'd get a few people send in their results that had forgotten to (or thought they had, but really hadn't). If people are happy with that, I'll keep doing it. The intent wasn't too pressure anybody, just to make sure nobody was missed that intended to report in.

Some of you may have noticed that I tend to over-think things, so thanks for bearing with me.

I'm excited to new some familar names coming back and some new ones wanting to join!:goodvibes

This seems to be the best solution...that way the week is a snap shot of that week. I know there have been times in past challanges where I thought I should have been on the top 10 for that week but wasn't because I had gained or forgot to send in my numbers the week before.

I like this. There have been times where I plumb forgot or thought I had sent mine in and hadn't.

I agree with you and Christa that this is a good way to do it -- that way you recognize both kinds of progress! (Can you hear "the best of both worlds" in your head now?!? ;))

LuvBaloo - I like that you remind us - I don't think it's pressure at all. I know I would like the reminder if I forgot to report. ;)

I'm okay with either weight loss accounting method you were discussing.
However, for the maintainers I think we would have to go with the harder method where the maintain is within so many pounds or percent of the original weight. Because if the maintainer gained one pound each week and never lost any, they would end up gaining a lot over the challenge. Maybe you have already thought of this and I'm just being obvious. :upsidedow

Definitely maintainers will always be compared to their starting or goal weight. And I'm hoping we'll have some maintainers pop in and say what they think is a good range; right now I'm thinking 2lbs, so if goal weight is 150, anything up to 152 is maintaining.

I also like the reminders -- heck, I clearly *need* the reminders! I like to think of it as my "last chance weigh-in"! :)

I'm definitely in for the next challenge. Since this will be my 3rd BL challenge, I think I could probably step up and take on some weekly coaching responsibilities also. Just let me know what is needed. I won't be able to coach the week before or after Thanksgiving becuase we will be at WDW from Thanksgiving day til the following Wed.

Yes! You can definitely go from a loser to a maintainer mid-challenge!
The intention behind a maintainers team, is that some people like the accountability of reporting in, so the thought is that maintainers will be listed as successes (stay with a certain pounds or % of goal weight). I don't know that there will be a winner for maintainers; I see it more of a did it or not; so if we have 10 maintainers and they all stay within accepted range, they are all successful maintainers. This part is a new idea, so we're very open to ideas on how to do it.:goodvibes

I voted for the one thread, but if the numbers are really large, then I'm okay with teams. The BL 7.1 teams got very quiet on the purple thread, and so I ended up lurking on the green thread a fair bit, but didn't really post there since it wasn't my team.

Looking forward to hearing some fresh ideas! :goodvibes

I'm right where you are- one thread, and yay for maintainers. I felt guilty towards the end of the challenge and gave up but a part of me was just happy with the weight I am now... I kept missing the weigh ins too and felt guilty. I have maintained my weight though since my 25 pound loss staying at 150 or lower since March. I do need to get back into the swing with exercise though. Maybe I'll just pay more attention to inches this winter.

Please never feel guilty about missing weigh-ins.
I think anybody is welcome to participate in the thread whether they are weighing in or not.:goodvibes

PS how's the cat you were bottle feeding?

Daisy is beautiful, gorgeous and had her last shots/worming today. She'll be Daddy's girl for awhile I'm afraid since I'm the bad guy who took her in. I was also spending most of my allotted time online (back issues--never got the laptop to connect to our new router again) doing a lot of research on my son and school. Even with the corrections he never got any grant money so we are just going to wait until next year. Obama has made some big changes to the pell grants so more people will qualify next year and we will know better and get our taxes in as soon as possible and apply. Steven is high functioning autistic so we are in no big hurry, we're going to let him take a year off so he can do things like learn to drive and cook for himself--learn basic independent living stuff. And even though swine flu had 0 impact on our decision-- kind of glad he's not going to be mingling much this school year...he's on my insurance until November, then he has zip. Anyways I might be interested in losing 10 more pounds after all--I've decided I want to live to see Disneyland's 100th birthday and I'm sure that will help me acheive that goal lol. (I'll be 86):goodvibes

I will be back in too.

I go with two threads though - one is just too big to follow for me.
