Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

I had an exact maintain this week. I am okay with that as I wasn't quite as diligent being on plan. This week I'm committed to being on plan!

I'll be your coach this week, so let's get to it!

Here's a quote as we near the end of our challenge:
“Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”
-Will Rogers, found on SparkPeople

I think this applies, and certainly does to me. We're all on the right track just by doing this challenge. But now is our chance to step up our exercise and nutritious eating so we can all complete BL8 with a loss. I think we can! :cheer2:

Friday QOTD: Do you have a Disney-related weight loss or fitness goal? If not, what is your main goal with this challenge (health, doing 100 sit ups, weight loss, etc)?
I actually do have Disney-related goals. I'm hoping to fit into some of my smaller pants by our January trip. My big fitness goal right now is to run a Disney half-marathon. Reading about the courses, I became completely enamored with the idea. The possibility of running in the 1/2 during Food & Wine next year inspired me to start training. I can jog about 2 miles so far, only 11.1 to go!

QOTD Friday:

I will be turning 40 next August and we are taking my birthday trip in early December. I want to be in the best shape of my life and enjoy every minute of it! I want to feel comfortable and also fit into something night for a special night out with DH during the trip!

I Friday QOTD: Do you have a Disney-related weight loss or fitness goal? If not, what is your main goal with this challenge (health, doing 100 sit ups, weight loss, etc)?
:

My disney-related wl goal is to be under 200 lbs by the time I go on the 3rd annual DIS Divas ladies only trip in late february. I need to lose just at 2 lbs per week to make it! Last year I was about 275 on the trip and I gained another 10 after it before I started trying to lose the weight. I didn't have any trouble keeping up with everyone, but I would like to "fit" better sitting next to people on rides.

I was down about 1.23 % this week so not bad!

Sarah

QOTD Friday:

I am going to Disney World in Dec 2010 over New Year's and both my mom and I are determined to be in better shape by then. We stay at CBR and my new goal is to be able to run Barefoot Bay at least 2 times in a row. Another future Disney goal : run the Disney Princess Half Marathon in March 2011!

I had a good week, down 2 lbs, which is alot for me!!!!:cool1:
I am sad to see this challenge coming to an end. I have really enjoyed it! Are we starting a new challenge when the new season starts? I hope so!

I hope everyone has a Magical Day!!!! pixiedust:

Molly :goodvibes

Woo hoo I am down 3 pounds - so that wipes out last week's gain (stole your line Lisa:goodvibes )

I have a Disney related goal too. My cousins are coming over from Scotland and we're meeting at WDW next October. We both want to be "swimsuit ready" by then!

Mikamah happy birthday to your ds! :bday:

Molly too funny "have a magical day" I had to laugh - I just finished working for the day and must have said that 100 time!:rotfl2:

I was expecting a gain this week so I am pleased to announce.....NO CHANGE. I haven't seen that number since Sat so I was very surprised.

Friday QOTD: Do you have a Disney-related weight loss or fitness goal? If not, what is your main goal with this challenge (health, doing 100 sit ups, weight loss, etc)?

This whole thing started for me when my hubby and I decided to make the Disney thing a reality instead of just talking about it and never doing it. I told him I was going on the DisDiet. I was not going to be the fat mom. We are planning our trip for late Sept. early Oct. so I know I'll need shorts and tanks. Those are both things I will not wear now. I also want to enjoy the resort pool and I would be too self consious now to do that now. I would ultimtely like to lose it by April, my birthday, but when I started I had Oct to Oct to get it done. That is the big picture. I would like to have it all off by April though and maintain for another 6 months before going.

I Friday QOTD: Do you have a Disney-related weight loss or fitness goal? If not, what is your main goal with this challenge (health, doing 100 sit ups, weight loss, etc)?
:

Well, I plan on fitting into all the great summer clothes I found in the bins at the goodwill outlets for Disneyalnd in June lol. I even found a really cite Mickey shirt on clearance at Ross a few weeks ago.
Up 3 pounds this week so that negates my 3 pounds last week lol. At least the turkey is gone and most of the leftovers that went with it. I have no excuse, I knew I was eating too much. That's what happens though I guess with me, I lose weight--then I'm Hungry and in survival mode so--poof- back on. Gonna have to fill up on more fruits and veggies I think to feel fuller. And the water. I wanted to go for a walk last night but was exhausted from work and it was 26 degrees so I didn't. I think I'll do some highpowered household chores today and organizing christmas loot. Get started on all that.

Thanks for coaching last week Mikamah!!

And welcome to our new coach princessbride6205!!:cheer2:

I maintained again this week -- but my back was still pretty bad and therefore there was NO exercise. I finally broke down and visited a Chiropractor who told me I have some swelling on my left side (forget what that was called) and some more swelling on my L5 vertebrae. No specific cause -- just stuff that built up over time. So, I've been "adjusted" twice this week and starting to feel a bit better. And he's cleared me to use the elliptical machine or walk (leisurely). No WATP, no biking, no crazy cardio until the back is a little more healed. So, hoping to get to the gym this weekend and spend a little time on the elliptical.

So, I guess, overall, I'm satisfied with a maintain - but I sure would have liked it better to have reported a loss. I'm about 7 lbs. shy of the goal I had hoped to reach by the end of this challenge. And, at this rate, I think I'm gonna fall short which is a bit of a bummer. Okay - enough of the pity party -- gotta get my butt in gear and do some Christmas decorating - I'm so behind this year!

Oh and QOTD...My Disney related WL goal is to be about 15 - 20 lbs. lighter for our April cruise! So, you can bet I'll be participating in BL 9 :thumbsup2

Thank you princessbride6205 for being our coach this week! princess:

Friday QOTD: Do you have a Disney-related weight loss or fitness goal? If not, what is your main goal with this challenge (health, doing 100 sit ups, weight loss, etc)?

I have a couple of Disney goals. The first is to have my 20 pound ribbon before my trip later this month -- three pounds to go. It's two weeks, I will make it, as long as I am really, really careful. My second is to be below 200 by the time that I go to Disneyland in June. It's my 50th birthday trip. I really do not want to see the 200's ever in my 50's.

I had a good week, down 2 lbs, which is alot for me!!!!:cool1:

Good job with your loss this week. We are starting a new challenge on 1/1
-- this challenge continues through 12/18. We had no idea what the ending date of the show would be so just picked the ending date. :santa: There is a planning poll on the WISH boards so if you want to give your input on what you would like to see on the next challenge, please let us know.

I will start the sign ups for BL 9 the last week of this challenge. I try not to overlap the challenges too much but want to get it up before I leave for WDW.

Congrats to our losers and maintainers this week and  to those who gained. It is a tough time of year to keep on the healthy track -- every little bit helps!

Oh, and jennz, have a magical day! ;)

I'm back and getting caught up. I've read all the posts from the last week, and loved reading all the answers to QOTD.

Thanks Mikamah for coaching!:cool1:
And an early thanks to princessbride6205 for taking on coaching this week!:thumbsup2

Shannon,

We have three weeks left, right? If so I'm going to skip next weeks weigh in. I want to go to two week weigh in for myself when I finish this challenge and I want to test it out in the safety of this round. Yes, it might backfire in my face but I want to give it a whirl.

I'll PM you next week to be on but I want to give it a try. I have such a stuggle with the scale. I'm over my numbers reading much higher than my look (hallelujah!!!!) but I'm not over becoming obsessed about it in general. In the last few weeks I've hopped on during the week and gave it so much energy - not good for my head.

Thanks Shannon - and thank you for all your time and energy.

In case anybody else it wondering about doing something like this, its fine by me! If anybody besides Lisa wants to do that just let me know. I'll just divide weight losses by the number of weights between reports for figuring out the top losers list. :goodvibes

Shannon, I hear your frustration as well. I'm sorry. What do you think the issue is if you could name it? If that's too personal - ignore me!;)

I think my issue was just getting burnt out on life. I work full time, DH works out of town 3 days a week, we've got 2 DD's (4 & 8) who are each in a couple of activities. I've been taking one correspondence course at a time for a couple years now. I am doing volunteer accounting work for a political group (wanted to do it for my resume, but not a lot of satisfaction from it, so I keep putting it to the bottom of my priorites, and now have to get it all caught up:headache:). I don't enjoy my job and have been looking to get something different for almost 2 years, (but its hard to convince DH that to switch careers I'll have to take a big pay cut and start building career again) and just generally was getting really blah on life. I'm in a much better mental place this week. I wrote the final exam and DH & I agreed that I would not take a course right now, and take a 3 month break. I think DH and I are getting on the same page as far as my job search. I'm getting better at making time to exercise. And I'm planning to enjoy Christmas season.

Saturday QOTD- When and where was your last disney vacation, and when do you think you will be going again? For those who have been to more than one disney parks/cruises, what is your favorite?

Last disney vacation was a drive down trip for spring break in March. It was a ton of fun. We had a great time, and were able to have a Dismeet with a few folks from the last Disney cruise we did.
Next definite trip is back to back cruises in 2011 (bringing the Magic from LA to Vancouver and then up into Alaska!)
We've been to DL, WDW and 2 cruises ( a 4-night and a 15-night). I love them all. I like DL a little more than WDW because its the original, its the one I saw first (at 24yo) and there's no busses :thumbsup2 I also love the cruises and am blessed with a DH that likes to get in the Disney spirit and goes along with my desire to dress up for theme nights!

Sunday QOTD- What do you say or do when people try to push food on you at parties? Is there anyone you will be seeing at the holidays who tries to sabotage your weight loss efforts, and how can you handle them?

Luckily most my family is not a food pusher, so I really just need to control myself. If I don't want something I'll just say no, thanks, I'm fine. We do have game nights with another couple, and there tends to be snacks out for those and I'm getting better and just saying no if I don't want something.:goodvibes

Monday QOTD- what on the menu for todays meals?

Well, back on Monday, I had planned (and actually stuck to plan) for turkey pepperoni & cheese for breakfast, WW SMart one for lunch with an apple and some raw veggies; dinner was leftover turkey (small amount) with veggies and salad.:thumbsup2

With the holiday season here, I thought we all might have celebrations coming up, and maybe we could share some recipes and ideas to make them a little healthier.
Tuesday QOTD- What is your favorite healthy party food? Do you have any healthy or low cal recipes to share?

DH & my mom really enjoy my version of salsa for a snack. I just peel and chop up roma tomatoes, add some lime juice, fresh garlic, some finely chopped onion, some cilantro and some green pepper. It tastes best after its sat for an hour. And is delicious with whole grain tortilla chips.:thumbsup2

Wed qotd is not really a question, but thought we might share a funny holiday story or memory, or if you want to share a funny disney memory that would be great too.

For holidays, I love kids and holiday music. When my oldest was 3 she loved to sing "Santa Claus is coming to town" and for the line "gonna find out who's naughty or nice" she'd sing "gonna find out who's not being nice". That same year, she had a hairband with reindeer antler's and when we'd play the song "run, run, rudolph" she'd run and grab her reindeer headband and run around like crazy.

For a funny Disney story: last year my youngest DD was 3 and loved going on the "Buzz LightBeer" ride :lmao:

Somehow I don't think we are going to be able to lose over 125 lbs in two weeks. But who knows...Miracles sometimes happen!

We had 3 weeks to do it, and it could happen!:goodvibes No matter what number we hit, we are all Losers at heart, which makes us all Winners :lmao:

Thurs QOTD- What can you commit to today for the next 2 weeks to keep on track, and finish this challenge strong?

I am committed to getting exercise at least 4 days a week, and to not eating all the delicious Purdy's chocolates I ordered from DD's school fundraiser. I will put them in the cupboard and use them as treats to savour and enjoy, not as snacks to pig out on. :thumbsup2

MIKAMAH - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MICHAEL!pirate::thumbsup2:dance3::upsidedow:cool2::woohoo:

Friday QOTD: Do you have a Disney-related weight loss or fitness goal? If not, what is your main goal with this challenge (health, doing 100 sit ups, weight loss, etc)?

No specific goal. I want to be fit for my next Disney cruise, but its not until 2011 which is too far off for a goal. I want to get to goal weight and then take a trip to Vegas with DH :thumbsup2 Mostly I want to have more energy:dance3::cool1:

:cheer2: Yeah me! I'm all caught up!

I am up to be sure this week-no help to the group goal of 500lbs (sorry)
I don't know what happened, I just started eating in my old way, as if I am not trying to lose!:confused3

Anyway, I asked LuvBaloo to excuse me from weigh-in so I dont have to look at the scale. I am commited to lose 2lbs this week and get back to my 10lb loss for the whole challenge. I was sure hoping for more. When I read about all the exercise you gals are doing I'm put to shame.

Lisah0711 your story about your son's Christmas presents at WDW is great.
LuvBaloo "buzzlightbeer"-what a hoot:rotfl2:
pjlla -here's a slow cooker soup- Its called Stone Soup and it comes from a children's story:
1lb bag meatballs (we use veggie)
2 cans broth
2 cans diced tomatoes (with or without seasoning)
1 potato diced
1 onion diced
1lb bag favorite frozen veggies
1 tsp spice blend/seasoning
Cook all but froz. veggies for 8-10 hours on low then add veggies - cook 1 hour on high.
Use low sodium canned goods if possible otherwise there's a lot of salt.
It's a very good story about sharing (as in the loaves and fishes)

QOTD- I have no specific goal in mind now that our WDW trip is posponed. I wonder if that's part of my non-commitment? I started the C25K but didn't finish it. I've been trying to get back to it. The snow and ice makes our drive a little longer and less time each evening for myself.
I am definitely up for BL9:thumbsup2

Holy cow Shannon. Holy. It's something trying to balance two people's needs and dreams and frustrations, eh? Good for you for seeing it. Loads of people just go into drive and just ignore. Denial never works when you know some changes are needed. Nice to hear about your feeling better this week. Thank you for everything that you do for us. Thanks to all the leaders and coaches.

MIKAMAH - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MICHAEL!pirate::thumbsup2:dance3::upsidedow:cool2::woohoo:

Yes Kathy - have fun. :goodvibes

:cheer2: Yeah me! I'm all caught up!

I can only dream. Good for you.:goodvibes;)

Hi to everyone.:goodvibes Lots of great weigh ins this week! :thumbsup2

Today's W/I, I surpassed my official WW goal - for some reason I rounded down from 50#. Whatever. I was excited to get a little jumping star party upon logging my weigh in and a Goal star on my page. That being said, I am not quite ready to be done yet. There are a couple of dresses that I would like to fit into. One of them, I wore to the rehearsal dinner before my wedding. It's a short, red, Chinese style dress. The other is a dress I wore to my mom's wedding. Actually, I don't know why I care about fitting into these dresses again - it's too cold to wear them now. I just feel like it would be nice to be back to that place. They both zip currently, but do not look quite right. I was about 8 pounds lighter when I wore them originally. My plan for the moment is this: I am going to continue losing a few more weeks, at least through Marathon Weekend. If I average 1 lb a week, I'm hopeful of another 5-6 pounds by then.

Of course, from my perspective, this has not been a diet to get through and finish so I can get back to my life. My struggle with overeating is more of a condition that can be managed, like diabetes, high blood pressure or addiction. I can be free of the symptoms, but if I neglect my care plan, I will quickly be back in trouble again. I anticipate some level of tracking and/or awareness will be necessary for the rest of my life, unless I want to regain everything I have worked so hard to lose. So when I start to maintain my weight instead of losing, very little will actually change in terms of what I need to do to succeed. I'm so glad for the opportunity to continue on with the Biggest Loser Challenge for the rest of this challenge and into the future.

Friday QOTD: Do you have a Disney-related weight loss or fitness goal? If not, what is your main goal with this challenge (health, doing 100 sit ups, weight loss, etc)?

Oh, do I ever! I started the year with a half marathon that I was lucky to even be able to start, run rather slowly, at a rather high weight for me. I have my before pictures from the 2009 WDW Half Marathon. I want my "after" pictures to be from the 2010 WDW Half Marathon. I plan to wear the same shirt, hat ad smile but otherwise, I want to look so completely different and I want to utterly torch last year's time. Of course the time may take a back seat to running with friends and just enjoying a movable party for 13.1 miles, too. I can scarcely wait!!! Except, of course, that I have a few more weeks of training that I need to do beforehand...

Good morning everyone. Why is it the day after weigh in I am down .4? Not a big loss but still. Why can't it show the day it needs to? Oh well. Just gives me a jumpstart into this week's loss.

Going shopping for my oldest daughter's bday after I get a workout and a shower in. What do you get the kid who has everything? She doesn't even know what she wants. Uggg. I'm thinking clothes or maybe an mp3 player of some sort. I told her no to the ipod. She's only going to be 7.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. My goal is to stay on plan all weekend. There is no reason weekends don't count.

, Shannon. This is a hard time of year -- it's ending, you think about what you wanted to accomplish and did (or did not). It's cold, it gets dark at 3:45 p.m. It's hard to make yourself a priority when everybody needs something and you just want some peace and quiet. I'm glad that you have your test behind you and are taking a little break for awhile. Time to take care of you! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the soup recipe, mullysisters! Now I know what I will be fixing for dinner tomorrow. I can pick up the ingredients on my way to work today.

Congratulations corinnak on reaching your goal! :cool1::cheer2::cool1::cheer2: How exciting! And I bet that this marathon will be a lot different for you after all your hard work this year. We're glad you get to stay on the BL challenges, too. :goodvibes

Good morning everyone. Why is it the day after weigh in I am down .4? Not a big loss but still. Why can't it show the day it needs to? Oh well. Just gives me a jumpstart into this week's loss.

That happens to me all the time! :confused3 It is just one of those things. Does your daughter like books? I get my son a Borders gift card and let him browse around the store. Then, of course, I have to get some books for myself . . .

Have a great day all!

PMS is kicking in! Enjoying a drink and some TJ's yellow chicken curry. Had 1/2 a handful of M&M's.

Got our tree this morning after DD2 got her H1N1 shot. We were planning on going to three different places. At the first one we found the perfect tree! DH had grabbed one tree to look out and another one came up with like it wanted us to pick it. The great part is that we only had to pay $40 for it! The last several years we have paid at least $65. We are just finishing a late lunch so we will be putting the lights on it shortly and then decorating it. We are watching Harry Potter on the Family Channel which we all really love! I ordered HBP on DVD yesterday so can't wait to watch that again. It's snowing/sleeting/raining here and we are supposed to have 3-5 inches tonight. Gotta do some more baking later. Lime spritz cookies and whatever else sounds quick and easy! Gotta go to church at 9 in the morning and plan on being there until at least noon so DD1 can start junior choir rehearsal. Later DD1 and I are going to see A Christmas Carol, The Musical, put on by the middle school. Looking forward to that!

OK, done babbling now!

Have a great weekend! Gonna have to do overtime next week on my workouts though my parents arrive Wednesday so I lose my early morning workout space!

I think I can sympathize with your situation and burn out. It happens to me as well, where I feel frustrated that I'm in a rut and like most things I have to do are chores. I too have been trying to get out of my job for 2 years, but have not had any luck. Sounds like a good idea for you to take a break from your courses. Hopefully you don't have too much longer of a commitment to the volunteer accounting, since it's just adding to your list of chores. I'm glad you're feeling in a better place this week.

Corinna, you are such an inspiration to me! Congrats on reaching your WW goal! Like you, I'm not sure exactly how many more pounds I want to lose, but I have a few outfits I'd love to look good in again! Your attitude about this being a life change is so great. And you've also helped nudge me to try training for a marathon.

Sounds like a fun and busy weekend! It's great that you're planning to get your workouts in and make adjustments to your plan.

Saturday QOTD: How do you make time in your day for exercise?
For me, it has become a routine. It's something I just do most days. My usual time is after DD goes to bed, which sometimes has me finishing my workout after 9pm. I do wish I could find time earlier, but I'm so not a morning person, so I'm making this work. I also like to walk on my lunches at work. I bring comfortable shoes and my iPod.

I haven't really figured out a way to make my workout part of my day, but I have done it the past 4 days - "just do it" lol.

Corrina :woohoo: on reaching your goal!!!!! :cheer2:

Shannon sorry you're feeling burned out  You have certainly got a LOT going on!! Including being the awesome weight-keeper. I'm glad you're taking a break and hope you get some time to relax.:umbrella:

I soooooooo didn't want to walk today but I did - it's so cold out brrrrrrr but am glad I did, I am walking faster now so I only walked 20 minutes on my route - I'll have to go a longer way tomorrow. That's good right? lol Then I did my 10 minutes of exercise for day 4 in my BL book - again didn't want to , but each one is 2 minutes each so I was thinking "2 minutes - I can do it" and am glad I did. Phew. Now I will be able to watch BL from Tuesday in peace! ha ha

Saturday QOTD: How do you make time in your day for exercise?

Oh, this is a topic close to my heart. Please everyone share how you got exercise to be part of your every day life. I am working on this area and it is improving. I've been doing the exercise challenge on the WISH boards and adding 100 minutes each month. I feel so much better when I exercise but I just have found that exercise that I love and really look forward to doing . . . . it's out there somewhere!

That said, I get up early, like 4:30 a.m. then I will do a DVD: WATP or BL Cardiomax or Wii Fit or the dreaded 30 day Shred. It is a big plus to my day to get that exercise out of the way right off the bat, otherwise, by the end of the day, it might not get done, depending on how the day went. Plus I am afraid if I exercise late that I will have trouble sleeping at night.

Thanks, princessbride6205 for asking this question!

Well, jennz, that sounds like a good way to do it -- just gradually work it in your routine. I like the "I can do anything for 2 minutes" idea. I usually apply it to things like The Rock n Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror but I see how it can be applied to exercise, too! :thumbsup2

It is cold here this morning! :cold: 14F with 20 to 30 mph winds. Wind chills may get down to -10F tonight. Definitely work out in the house today plus do the fine tuning and go over the details for our trip -- single digit countdown dance coming soon!

Have a great day all!

4:30?? I think I should get up early to work out but can never drag myself out of bed at the (late) hour of 5:30 lol you are shaming me!

We're supposed to get snow tomorrow, Tues and Wed and so I'm going to get outside this afternoon to walk my dog (and me). I'd rather go first thing but it's a few degrees warmer later
