Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Back from dinner! Had the chicken tenders and steak tips at 99. We did get an appetizer combo. I had one potato skin and 3 or 4 chipotle fever wings. I had 2 large glasses of water. Going to do 2-3 miles on the elliptical so hopefully that will counteract the food I ate. Didn't eat much earlier in the day so I should be ok. Would love to reach 5 pounds for the week by Friday morning! After gaining last week I'm focused to do REALLY well this week!

:cool1:Oh yeah, forgot to mention, DH WON the CHILI COOKOFF at work! Chipotle Chili! Spiciest of all the entries and loaded with meat! :yay:

Lost the dessert cookoff to a Kahlua Chocolate Mousse! Man, that sounds good! I knew we should've made something with alcohol in it! Next time we'll make the Orange Dream Cake! IT'S TO DIE FOR!
(Sorry I just had to brag about DH)

WOOHOO to you and DH! I am always impressed when people can cook... because I definitely CANNOT. I don't eat spicy foods, but I'm sure that the chili was delicious... but I would have LOVED to try your dessert... and the orange dream cake sounds yummy.

Thanks to EVERYONE who shared bits of their life with me regarding these week's questions. It really helped me "get to know" my friends here. I rely on this community SO MUCH to help me stay focused with my healthy lifestyle. I truly don't think I would have come this far without having people here to talk to and share ideas with and get encouragement from! A sincere THANK YOU to every one of you here on the WISH boards.:grouphug:

Today's QOTD:

Well... the folks from the BL tv show have seen our threads... and they want to talk to us about helping with their next book!! But there are so many of us that we can only contribute ONE SENTENCE each. What could you say, in one sentence, to help others get on and stay on a healthy lifestyle plan??(There can't be ANY repeats.)

This will be easy for me, since I get to go first!

I would say.... "No matter WHAT eating/exercise plan you choose, make sure that it is sustainable for a LIFETIME, because that is how long you will need to maintain it in order for continued good health."

(Yes, it is a bit run on, but hey, I only get ONE sentence!;))

Well... I gotta hit the ground running today. I've already done my workout and need to get in the shower. DS is staying home sick again, but not sure about DD. I'm working in preschool today, so I probably won't have ANY time to check on here, but I'll be back later this evening. I wish you all a happy and healthy Thursday. Be sure to get in that "last chance" workout before weigh-in day tomorrow!.....................P

TODAY'S QOTD:

My quote would be this: Don't get frustrated! There will be ups and downs. Look at the downs as a learning experience and NEVER GIVE UP on this goal to get healthy!

I find I have to say this to my mother a lot who is also trying to lose weight. She walks 6-8 miles a day and is struggling. She is easily frustrated so I have to tell her to look beyond it and start fresh each week. She was complaining that she couldn't keep away from the candy left over. I said have one piece and savor it and then don't look at it again that day. I have my little treats each day but remind myself what my goal is and that helps me move on from it!

Scale was up this morning so I'm pushing myself today. Did the 3 mile WATP and after DD2 goes to preschool I will do 3 miles on the elliptical. Going to have stir fry veggies for lunch and focus on cleaning today so I don't want to eat! I will also drink all my water. Will be staying on plan this weekend as DH is prepping for a colonoscopy on Monday so won't be able to eat much on Saturday and nothing on Sunday. Think I will take the kids to McD's for lunch after church so we don't eat in front of him. Also may go buy him a Christmas present I saw at Borders. He loves the show Good Eats and I saw a book called Good Eats The Early Years. He has made quite a few recipes from that show.

Last Chance To Pamper You!

It's our last day, I hope you've enjoyed the pampering and spent some extra time on you! That is the most important thing -- you are worth it!

Today's activity is to buy a small treat just for you -- nail polish, a paperback, gum (I hear it's great when you're trying to lose weight ;) ), just a small item because you are a special person!

Tomorrow we will be back to the COW -- Dona is well rested and ready to get us moving!

Maria :upsidedow

tigger -- that is AWESOME that your DH won!!!

really the BL folks read our thread? did i miss something?

too early to think of quote...will return :teeth:

Never really had any big plans.Around 18 or so I decided to either marry Bowie or Paul Mcartney- with Paul taken, emphasized on Bowie. (lol) When that didn't pan out decided on just a rich man-- not necessarily to be rich, just so I didn't have to do much...well married a poor man, but one that has always held a job for the almost 20 years we've been together lol.
Love this!:rotfl: I had a friend in high school obsessed with Jim Morrison, and she'd probably tell you he is still alive. She married a guy who looked just like him, played in a band, but lived a crazy life, and it didn't work. She got 2 beautiful blond haired, blue eyed kids out of it though. Hey, I should call her this week as one of my pamperings.

Wednesday's QOTD:

What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?
I do have disney pictures in every room in the house but the bathroom, but it's a small house, only 5 rooms. Not that I haven't looked for the bathroom, just haven't found the right thing. Mostly photos on the wall from our trips, but in the kitchen I have a mickey picture, that looks like an oil painting that I got at the disney store. My kitchen walls are yellow so it looks great there. I have a little stuffed mickey on my desk that michael gave me for my birthday one year. And I love to come to the dis. I'm starting to plan my next trip now, since I can't go to wdw next week without a plan to come back. Maybe august, or thanksgiving 2010. We also have disney music in the car.

I will be starting 2010 weighing less than I weighed when 2009 began and that is an accomplishment to celebrate! :cool1:
That is a huge accomplishment!! Weigh to go, Lisa!!!

:hug:This has been a hard week for me too...I wonder if Halloween triggered it, the start of the holiday season or something? My mom was almost 77 when she passed away - for some reason it's important for me to say that, she was 1 month away from her 77th birthday. I don't even feel like "doing" Christmas this year - in my head, my mom and dh's mom are both gone so what's the point? I know that's silly but that's the though that's in there.

I'm glad you're going to the Happiest Place on Earth soon! Enjoy your time and new memories.
Thanks Jenn. I think halloween did trigger it, being the start of the holidays. They will be so tough, but we will get through them, and we must remember all the great holiday memories we've shared with our moms. My mom loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and when we went through her things, we all took some old glass ornaments from when we were kids, and they brought back so many memories. I'm so grateful for my son- he's really the reason I'll do the holidays right. I was feeling like for thanksgiving, I didn't want to go visit a friend that we usually see, but when I mentioned it to my son, he got so sad, so we will go on, do the holiday traditions, and celebrate just like my mom would want us to. Michael is very quick to say that she is watching over us, and I know your mom is too. Hang in there. We'll get through this year, and with those kids to help us, we'll make some new memories to treasure.

Maria- I loved reading your pampering ideas, and I am definitely going to do the mani-pedi this weekend before our trip.

I've been trying to get organized. I have so many pics on my computer, and haven't burned to discs in so long, so I bought an external hard drive to copy them, and that way I could empty my memory cards for our trip, but I had such a hard time figuring out the hard drive last night, but finally did it. I like to have them in 2 places before I delete them off the camera, and I haven't printed any in ages. I think that should me my new years resolution organize the pics, and print. Can't even think about scrapping them all. That's done, and I did my resort on-line checkin last night!! Yay, 2 more days of work!!

Saw a gain at ww yesterday, but am working hard now to see it gone. I'm going to weighin sunday morning before we leave, and that way I don't miss a week, and it will help keep me from starting my eating vacation early.

Have a great day.:)

Good morning all!

Don't forget to PM your weigh in info to LuvBaloo tomorrow.

A big, big thank you to pjlla for being our coach this week. Those were some great and thought provoking questions!

Today's QOTD:

Well, if they really had been reading our threads they would know that we can't say anything in just one sentence! :rotfl:

Pick yourself up as many times as you need to as long as you keep going in the right direction!

tigger813, congrats to your DH for winning the chili cookoff. Does he trash the kitchen when he does the Alton Brown cooking thing? Mine does. Now DS is getting into it, too. There was an interesting show with all the info about the early years and how they do things -- I think it's in reruns on food network.

Hugs to your Mom for her struggles. I am sure that you inspire her with all of your hard work and exercising!

Thank you so much, Worfiedoodles, for running this special activity for us this week. It was a lot of fun. I hope that it may become a regular feature of our challenges.

Oh yeah, who didn't grow up with a rock n' roll fantasy? :rotfl: The closest I ever came was kissing one of the guys from the band Europe -- you know the ones with the song "It's the Final Countdown." That was a long, long time ago.

Resort check-in! How fun! You know your trip is just around the corner when you do that. :cool1:

 to both you and jennz. The first holidays without your loved ones will be so hard. Thank goodness for the little ones who keep you looking forward and keep your loved ones in your hearts. :flower3:

Have a great OP day all!

Hey Everyone!! WOW I have been so bad with keeping all caught up...I have been lurking around these parts but not posting. A lot of stuff going on at work and at home, but I'm next week's coach (I'm terrified LOL) ...however I loved this QOTD so I want to answer it

Weight loss is one day at time!! I have to remind myself of this all the time or I find myself getting frustrated and quitting!!

I was just about to post this! Its a lot easier to think about staying OP for one day rather than forever. One day is easy if you put your mind to it. Then just do it again the next day!

I'll have to think of a new one now

Give yourself one day off a week so you can indulge in a small portion of whatever you are craving. Chances are after you make it through the week, you may not even want it anymore. Restricted portions are easier to live with than completely forbidden.

Tuesday's QOTD:

Are you at the point in life where you THOUGHT you'd be by this age? Not just weight, but financially, family-wise, educationally, etc.

I had some goals I wanted to reach by the age of 30. I wanted to be married, own a home, have a career, and have all the kids I planned to have. I got married to my dh at 23, bought my home at 28, started my career at 29 and had my second and final child 2 1/2 weeks before my 30th birthday! The next big goal is to get a bigger home (we live in a 1300 sqft manufactured that is nice but not quite big enough for our family of 4...we also want a stick built!) My goal for 35 is to be in the bigger house, have my weight under control and travel on a disney cruise! I can do it!

Wednesday's QOTD:

What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

We watch Disney movies and the Disney planning videos a lot. I also have the disney treasure Disneyland USA which is great! I love watching the show Disneyland after dark! Our foyer is dedicated to Disney with a huge framed "Seasons of Mickey" print and framed pictures from many different trips! It also has the Disney mantel clock I was given on a Disney fam trip back when I was a travel agent! Love it!

As for me, I am still on track! Have had 3 losses in a row (I weigh in tues or weds depending on my families schedule so I weighed in last night and had another loss that I will be reporting to LuvBaloo tomorrow!) My goal is to lose weight 4 weeks in a row as I seem to be having a problem with this lately. I will do really well for three weeks and then blow all my progress the 4th. I did expect to be a little farther along this challenge, but it is good to know that even by last week I was over 3%. I would love to be another 5% by the end of the challenge and if I can just focus on going forward and not backward I know I can do it!

Have a great day all!

I just came back from our new Barnes and Noble and I did buy myself two new magazines. A WW cookbook magazine with 196 recipes in it and I found a number of them that I think my dh will eat. And a knitting magazine with a great sweater on the cover. I haven't done a sweater in ages but I liked it so much it may be the project I start the day after Christmas.

I start my very first exercise class tonight. I belonged to a gym a long time ago but never went to classes since they were usually around dinner time. This is a yoga/taichi type class here in town at a local yoga studio. I have been wanting to sign up for a long time and last month their newsletter came and I signed up. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I will tell you how it goes tomorrow.

I will post the new COW tonight. Thanks Maria for the pampering challenges. THey were great and I think it got everyone thinking about doing something nice for themselves and not everyone else like we always do.

I don't like to cook, but I LOVE the Good Eats show! I love that he explains the "whys" and "why nots" of cooking, rather than just say "do it this way".

Good luck to your DH on his colonoscopy. Is it just routine or has he been having troubles? Either way, I will say a prayer for good results.

Well.. the only place I will be going today (other than school) is the pediatrician's office to see if DD has bronchitis (again :headache: ). Not sure they sell much there!! But I guess I could stop and buy myself an iced coffee at McDonald's. I love their iced coffee with sugar-free vanilla syrup... it is a nice treat.

Sarah
You have done SO WELL with the weight loss over the last several months! You should be really proud. Don't worry too much about the fourth week. It is just your body adjusting to the new weight! I had a consistent loss (of at least .2 ) every week for the first 16 weeks I was on WW (until I went to WDW)... and even after that I lost most weeks for a few more months. But it was tough when the weight loss started slowing down and when I saw gains when I THOUGHT I would see a loss. And that has been happening more and more as I get closer to my goal weight. But I try to stay focused and just push forward. You CAN do it! How much per week would you need to lose to hit the additional 5% by the end of the challenge??

Well.. DD is heading to the pediatrician's office to later today to see if she has bronchitis again. DS is home sick another day. He had a low-grade fever again last night and was really tired and droopy and headachy. I am feeling okay.... just a bit tired and still hoarse, but no sore throat. Looks like I will make it through the work week! And I will be spending a few hours this weekend DISINFECTING the house!! Every door knob, phone handset, light switch plate, computer keyboard/mouse... YOU NAME IT!! It will either get washed, wiped with a Clorox wipe, or sprayed with Lysol! And the windows will be opened to air the place out! My Mom would still like to come for a visit next week and I certainly don't need to expose her to these germs. It is mostly just common cold germs, I'm sure, but no need to risk it.

I am loving all of the response to my QOTD.... and to OhMom who asked ..... NO, the BL tv people didn't really call..;) There just isn't a "tongue in cheek" smilie to use!!! I just thought it was an interesting question.

It has been GREAT coaching all of you folks this week. It really made me spend some time thinking about my OWN weight loss journey and how I can rededicate myself now that I am getting close to goal. You are such an amazing group of (mostly) ladies and you inspire me when you tell stories about how you have risen about the hardships in your life. No matter WHAT your weight, you should all be proud of the kind of people you are!! I am eternally grateful that I have found you all......................P

My father died as a young man from not taking care of himself, I will always use his life as an example of what not to do with myself and my health.

tigger - congrats to your husband!! Woo hoo!!:woohoo:

ohMom- I thought the BL people really called too!! :rotfl2:

Lisa0711 & mikamah - yes it will be a hard holiday season but you're right, my daughter will help me through it, give me a different perspective.

pjilla - how are your kiddos feeling??? I need to disinfect our handles, switches etc too - thanks for the reminder!

Donac - have fun at your exercise class tonight! I admire you for going...I always want to do one but manage to talk myself out of it. ;)

sahbushka :cheer2:

tinkamom & jenjolt - I SO agree! One day at a time! Looking at the big picture can be so overwhelming, and it's easy to say "this one candy bar doesn't matter with 80 pounds to lose!" but drops of water...it all adds up:goodvibes

worfiedoodles - thanks for the pampering - it doesn't take long and feels sooooo good!:flower3:

Thanks to all my support peeps here!:grouphug: You are great!

I'm working in preschool today, so I probably won't have ANY time to check on here, but I'll be back later this evening. I wish you all a happy and healthy Thursday. Be sure to get in that "last chance" workout before weigh-in day tomorrow!.....................P

Thanks Pjlla for coaching this week- I wasn't around much but had fun catching up ;-)
Congrats to the husband who won his cook off!
QUOTD:
Find out why it is important to you to lose weight and make a list of pros and cons.

Thanks pjlla for coaching this week!:thumbsup2
Thanks Worfiedoodles for all the pampering ideas!
And an early thanks to next week's coach, jenjolt! (don't be scared, have fun with it :goodvibes)
