Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

A big congratulations to TammyAlphabet our biggest loser this week and all our other superstars! :thumbsup2 I see some new names on the list. :goodvibes

jennz, hope that you are feeling better.

That was an interesting Halloween mix list, 50sjayne. You reminded me of a few songs I haven't heard in awhile -- like Elton John.

I have to think about the QOTD and post an answer later.

DS woke up sick today. Took him to the doctor because H1N1 is running through our school and it is probably swine flu so we all get to be on Tamiflu for a bit here. :sad2:

DH is home with DS today and it will be my turn tomorrow.

Have a great OP day all!

Yeah funeral for a friend was a new idea for me for the Halloween cd's.
And ohmygosh-- please keep us updated.

Wednesday QOTD:
The Disney movie "Up". I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe and my ab muscles were killing me! When is Disney going to start making those collars so we can hear our own dogs talk?!? :rotfl:

I've been so bad eating this week it's ridiculous. I thought I was feeling bad just because I'm tired and stressed, but it turns out I've got strep throat! At least now I know why I've been feeling so cruddy, and hopefully I'll start feeling better soon with the meds.

I really like the big bird ;-) I hate being sick. Just concentrate on getting better instead of losing weight....

50sjayne - I am making vegetable beef barley soup in the crock pot tomorrow...1# beef stew meat, onions, green beans, stewed tomatoes, V8, corn, beef boullion and something else...oh yea barley! I forgot about this recipe from my Cook it Lightly and Forget It book. It is tasty! Should be good tomorrow - nasty wind chills in the 30s here today and rainy and cold again tomorrow...perfect for soup! I'd make some bread too but I'd end up eating 1/2 the loaf myself.

How much v-8? That sounds good. I need to use up the turkey first but I just put stew meat in the freezer. Um-- do you find barley in the baking aisle at the store?

50sjayne - Thanks for the list of Halloween songs! I have the Rocky Horror soundtrack playing now, and I was just thinking of making a new CD...

Yeah I had to make a list anyway in case something happens to any of them..:headache: and thought maybe someone could use them. I am always looking for lists online.
I love Mr. Mom ;-) Schooner tuna's where it's at. I am finally resolved to seeing Mama Mia. I have funny hang ups about things- for Mama Mia I think I just liked Abba enough to be sort of mildly upset the world had caught the craze- even if momentarily. It's silly though, I know I will love it. Maybe I'll ask for it for Mothers Day or my birthday this year.

What movie makes me laugh?

This is a hard one for me, I'm not big into comedies -- I'm going to say "Evil Dead 2". I also laughed alot during "Chicken Little" the "Shrek" movies, and the first 2 "Ice Age" movies.

Maria :upsidedow

QOTD: I love Better off Dead with John Cusack. "I want my two dollars"

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: CLASSIC!!!!!

Good morning everyone.

A big congratulations to our top ten losers this week!!! Including me for the first time in ages. :) Gonna keep on moving down ward. Congrats Tammyalphabet on being number one!!!! :cool1:

Thanks so much Shannon for all your hard work as weight keeper.

50jayne- loving your qotds this week. Haven't had much computer time but usually at the end of work I'll sneak on and read the thread. I love reading everyone's CDs and funny movies.

In my car cd player I have City of Angels soundtrack (my crying music);); Tracy Bird- Big love, Jimmy Buffett Greatest hits, Country sings the best of Disney, (my happy music), Hannah Montana- my son's, and an alternative rock cd my son got for free in his Captain Underpants book. Not my style, but it's kind of funky and he likes it.

As far as embarrassing moments, I think seeing how I've looked in pictures is the worst, and maybe I've blocked some other memories out. I know when I was at my all time non-pregnant high, my scrub pants got so tight that I couldn't breath when I would squat down at the end of my shift to empty the foley bags, and that was the last straw when I got serious. That was just over 4 years ago, but I remember how bad I felt, but I would not go up to the next size in scrubs. My weight has been up and down, but I've stayed at least 10 pounds below that all time high, so that's progress. Scrubs are great for the convenience, but you can gain or lose 40 pounds before having to change sizes. Not good.

Oh Brother, Where art Thou is one of my favorite movies. It is hilarious. When I went to see it years ago at the theater, I only went because George Clooney was in it, but I loved it. :rotfl: Kinda have a thing for him.
Big Daddy is another funny one, but I think I like that more because my son finds it hilarious.

Lisa- I hope your son is feeling better real soon, and that you and dh stay healthy. Flu season is worring me a bit, not so much that we will get really sick, but at work, they are really strict now, and if you have any flu like symptoms, you have to stay out for 5 days. I'm more worried I won't have enough paid time off for my vacation if I have to be out for the flu!:scared1:

:grouphug: to all who have been feeling under the weather. There is so much going around already. Hope you are all feeling better soon.

Tigger813- I love hearing about your massages, and that hot stone massage sounds sooooo relaxing. I read that this morning, and my house is a big chilly because I won't put my heat on til November first, so a hot stone massage would be lovely. Congrats on being in the top ten 3 weeks in a row!! That is awesome. It's tough to keep on track consisitently, so you should be proud.

Cindylou- Good luck in the Marathon sunday. It would be great if you could meet Jay and Mark. My son and I are doing a 3 mile walk for Hospice of the North Shore sunday, so we'll be hoping for good weather for you too.

Have a great day everyone.

I really like the big bird ;-)
How much v-8? That sounds good. I need to use up the turkey first but I just put stew meat in the freezer. Um-- do you find barley in the baking aisle at the store?

I am finally resolved to seeing Mama Mia. I have funny hang ups about things- for Mama Mia I think I just liked Abba enough to be sort of mildly upset the world had caught the craze- even if momentarily. It's silly though, I know I will love it. Maybe I'll ask for it for Mothers Day or my birthday this year.

My book is actually called "fix it and forget it lightly" Here's the recipe: 1 # lean stew meat, 1/2 c onions, 1/2 c green beans, 4 c fat-free low sodium beef broth, 2 14/4 ounce cans low-sodium stewed tomatoes, 12 oz low-sodium V8 juice, 2/3 c pearl barley (uncooked), 1 c water. Combine in crock pot 10 - 12 hours on low, 5 - 7 on high. Very tasty!!

lol about the barley I was hunting for it in Wal-Mart last night b/c I forgot where I got it before! It's with the grains (rice etc) and they only have one type, in a box on the top shelf.

Watch Mama Mia - you'll love it! They've respected ABBA and done a great job.:thumbsup2

Congrats to all the losers this week!! You are all motiviational!!:woohoo: I am a maintainer, which I'll take - being on 3 new meds, one which is a steroid has been a struggle!! Yesterday I was SICK all day b/c of some bad med interaction, in bed all day. Today though I feel GREAT, made some major adjustments. That's the good thing about being sick, when you feel better it's wonderful. :rotfl:

I need to make some comfort foods, does anyone have a good website with recipes? Stews, soups, casseroles...it's rainy gloomy and in the 40's...definitely weather for warming comfort food!

Sorry to hear you were feeling poorly. Glad you are better. I totally agree with the comfort foods. I am HATING this early cold weather. I made hamburg soup this weekend. I'll try to remember to share the recipe later when I am at home.

FAbulous! I hadn't really thought of the reality of getting into the 130's wow. I've still got a ways to go but the fact it's even doable seems so strange to me.

Honestly, it is a bit surreal to me. If someone had told me two years ago that I would ever REALLY hit the 130's I'm not sure I would believe it. But my struggle still continues, just like when I was heavier. I think that the "fat girl" in me will always be struggling to get out! But I will fight against her "reappearance" every day!!

For anyone else who feels like it might not be doable... IT IS and I am living proof!! In 2002-2003 I weighed in at a whopping 219 (maybe more.... I refused to hit the scale most of the time). At that point in time I would have been happy to hit the 170's!!

DS woke up sick today. Took him to the doctor because H1N1 is running through our school and it is probably swine flu so we all get to be on Tamiflu for a bit here. :sad2:

DH is home with DS today and it will be my turn tomorrow.

Have a great OP day all!

SO scary about the flu!! I hope your DS gets better quickly and no one else gets sick!!

Did another 2 mile WATP workout and then did 20 minutes on the Wii Fit PLUS. I love the rhythm parade and bike race. I also did the advanced step and got my highest score ever of 1 miss and 1 OK, I don't know how as I was stepping on it! Oh, well! Going to fix myself my last glass of water for the day and maybe have an apple. Hope to see good numbers in the morning and will have time to workout tomorrow.

OK, I've procrastinated enough! Time to fold 3 HUGE bags of laundry!

Good job getting in two workouts!! Too bad laundry folding wasn't an aerobic workout!!

I really like the big bird ;-) I hate being sick. Just concentrate on getting better instead of losing weight....

Sorry to say, but as a big Abba fan, I was very disappointed with the movie. It was an okay movie, but not what I was hoping for. I wold definitely try to see it before BUYING it (or asking for it as a gift). JMHO of course.

Well, I am at work again today. My great peek at the scale yesterday really encouraged me and I hit the gym for 105 minutes last night (in addition to my regular morning workout). I plan on having a really low point day and having a GREAT showing on the scale tomorrow, so WATCH OUT! :rotfl: Actually if I even lose 1.5 lb I will be thrilled!!

Glad to see all of the funny movies listed. I was JUST thinking that we needed to have a comedy movie weekend at home! But I was having trouble thinking of anything that would be appropriate for all of us. But now I have some great ideas!! ........P

Hey all! Been out of touch this week for no other reason than it's been a crappy week at my house. Got back to schooling my boys this week after time off for vacation. Yes, we are home schoolers and they are really challenging my patience this week! I haven't been able to exercise much at all :guilty: - but, at least I've been watching what I'm eating and don't feel like I've gained any weight this week :thumbsup2. So, they're doing some reading right now and I figured while it's quiet, maybe I can catch up! Here goes...

Disney wants us to volunteer. QUOTD Saturday:
Have you volunteered in the past? If so what sort of volunteer work

Unfortunately, I don't do a lot of volunteer work now, occasionally do some stuff with our local home school group. But, in the past, when my boys were still in school (outside the house) I would volunteer at their schools and with their cub scout troops. When I was younger I was actively involved in our Church's folk band and volunteering in our local hospital's emergency room.

Sundays quotd:

What was the last thing you ate?
Well, just had breakfast. Special K Vanilla Almond cereal and a cup of coffee.

QUOTD: What cd is in your car right now?
Don't really listen to CDs much - mostly radio. But I do have a few mix CDs which I made from my music list on iTunes.

Quotd Tuesday:
What is one of your most embarrasing moments relating to being overweight?
Ugh - this was not a happy day. I was probably in my early 20s and wearing a dress that was not that flattering (in hindsight) - one of those drop waist things that unless you're really thin it probably isn't a good thing to put on. Anyway, I was working a retail job at the time and one of the customers - a somewhat elderly gentleman - walked up to me and asked "When are you due?" :scared1:

QUOTD Wednesday:

What movie makes you laugh? I mean really laugh--rotfl.

Okay - had to think about this since I'm don't watch a ton of comedy - not really crazy about the "slap stick" kind of comedy. So, if I had to make a choice "2 Weeks Notice" with Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock. Oh, and I absolutely loved "Mama Mia". It was campy and it just looked like the actors had a really fun time making the movie!

Okay - think I'm caught up with the QOTDs - just in time because the boys are finishing up their reading! It's off to do some math, grammar and spelling. Luckily, I have them signed up to take a class this afternoon at our local Wildlife Resource Center. Yay - I get two hours to do my own thing!:cheer2:

Hope everyone has a great day!

PJLLA: Didn't fold the laundry yet. Going to start it in a few. It was an aerobic exercise carrying it up the stairs. I carried to bags to increase the effect! LOL!

Mikamah: Congrats on making the top ten! The woman came in and said I need some HOT STONES! I'm freezing!

Did Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred this morning. OMG my legs were so hard to move afterwards. I was walking down stairs grimacing! I work out everyday! I'm hoping to do the Shred everyday and still try to fit in my WATP and the Wii Fit while watching tv. Going to have some more stir fry for lunch when DH gets home from the dr.

OK enough of the procrastinating! I REALLY need to fold laundry now!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

QUOTD Wednesday:
What movie makes you laugh? I mean really laugh--rotfl.

My first thought is Wedding Crashers. I'm sure there are others, but that one sticks out in my mind. Not a movie, but a TV show, would be the episode of The Office when Michael accidentally "grills" his foot by stepping on his George Foreman grill.

Good morning all!

 to everyone who is feeling under the weather and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

DS is still sick today but that is to be expected. He did ask me to make arrangements to pick up his homework tomorrow so that is a good sign. So far no one else in the family seems to have been hit. Thank you for all the good wishes and kind words. DS was very impressed to have had to wear a mask the whole time he was in the doctor's office yesterday and he said when they did his flu test the nurse had on a coat, mask, and shield.

In a way, I am almost relieved. We've already had our flu shots. Once we get through this bug that will take a lot of worry about our upcoming WDW trip at Christmas. We will still be vigilant about hand washing, vitamins, etc.

tigger813, you've inspired me to deal with my own "Mt. Washmore" today! :lmao:

QUOTD Wednesday:
What movie makes you laugh? I mean really laugh--rotfl.

One of the first ones that comes to mind is Planes, Trains and Automobiles... something about John Candy and Steve Martin together just makes me happy :)

Another one..Pretty in Pink...watching Ducky dance around the record store.

On another note...just having a tough week... been keeping up on my COW pretty good but just really hetic..hopefully next week will feel more productive!

Speaking of vitamins....

QUOTD:

What are your favorite vitamins, herbs, methods of healing? There's lot's of different sicknesses and people deal with healing in many different ways.

I rely heavily on the humidifier when I'm stuffed up and Vick's. I like the usual vitamin C, echinacea, garlic, and I really believe in the power of zinc when fighting a cold. Lots of hot tea, apple cider as well and I won't have any form of caffeine if I'm not working. Just thought since so many people have been sick, this would be a good question.:goodvibes

I hope I didn't blow it! I ate several small pieces of cheesy garlic bread! I did just go do the 3 mile WATP! And I am PMSing! Here's hoping I have a loss for the weigh in tomorrow! Nothing but water the rest of the night! UGH! I was good (I think) the rest of the day! I so wanted to see the 160s tomorrow!

Enough of my whining!

Blazing Saddles - I like most Mel Brooks movies :lmao:

Uncle Buck is also good.

Blazing Saddles is so awesome!!:rotfl::rotfl:

Scoundrel Recruiter: What is that in your mouth?

Scoundrel: Gum

Scoundrel Recruiter: Did you bring enough for everyone?

Scoundrel: No

Scoundrel Recruiter shoots him.

Sheriff: Wow, this sure is a tough crowd!

I promise you it's funnier if you have actually seen the movie....:rotfl2:

I am totally against flu shots; no offense to anyone who isn't, it's just not for me and I just try to take a more holistic approach. When I was in high school I doctored around a lot, and everyone pumped me full of this antibiotic and that treatment... Anyway, it messed me up a lot, and that's bad for someone as young as I am (24 now). So anyway, I really try not to take antibiotics unless really, no-way-around-it necessary. When I am sick I just have to remind myself to stay home (I am a teacher), and I do the old-fashioned stay in bed thing. DBF makes me lots of green tea with lemon (yum) and soups, and I watch Disney movies and sleep the whole time. I used to take a multivitamin and probably should start again. I do a lot of herbal tea though, and get most of my vitamins from veggies and all that old-fashioned goodness. I try not to go to the doctor very much, but would rather go to the chiropractor and massage therapist and that kind of thing. Prevention to begin with, you know? What about the rest of you? I am curious, in particular, about the flu shot thing.

QOTD:

I like the EMERGEN-C powdered mix. I had some yesterday to help with my cold and feel much better today. I'm not very good about taking vitamins. We drink tea when we have sore throats.

We'll probably get the regular flu shot. I had the flu in May and it wasn't fun. Still not sure about the H1N1 shot. DD1 may have asthma so we plan on having her get it. Not sure about DD2.

Didn't focus on the COW this week like the others weeks. I am still doing the ones from the beginning : water, veggies, etc though I definitely get the exercise in many times over. I've been trying to floss but have been falling asleep on the couch and then heading right to bed. I also need to get some more fruit as our apples are going bad fast.

I hope I worked off supper. I did the 3 mile WATP and then did 32 minutes on the Wii Fit as I didn't care about the things on tv at 8.

Good night all!:banana::littleangel:

Lisa - glad to hear your son is doing okay and the rest of your family hasn't got it :goodvibes

If I'm feeling like I'm coming down with something, I like to get my vitamin C from eating red, orange or yellow bell peppers. I like to cook with fresh garlic. I have been trying ColdFx too when I feel something coming on. No flu shot for me the last couple years.

Thanks for posting the COW Dona! Congrats to all who are trying it :goodvibes
