Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

thelionqueen-
I have been stagnant for about 3 weeks, and lost 4lbs this week!!!

It's nice to finally see the results of your dedication aye? Duuude-that's awesome....

Princessbride6205-
My DH would probably say that I most want to meet John Stamos - I have kind of always had a thing for him. AND he has some cool Disney memorabilia

Hasn't he been in the Christmas parade? He is a big fan of Disney ;-)

Pjilla-
I'm starting to think that I will NEVER hit the 130's!! I had originally (for two years) had a goal weight of 135, but I had recently lowered that goal to 130. But I am starting to think that even reaching 135 might be very difficult.

That's my goal weight now also. I'm 142 now. You might want to research body setpoints online, there is some science to it. There's also some mythology as well though and it would probably help to just understand it better. I think I'm going to look up stuff on that too. I know this will be really hard for me too, but I plan on crawling to the goal and doing it in a healthy manner.

I think losing weight has helped my running. I have found that it is now easier to run after having lost a little weight.
Firstly- Congratualtions on your accomplishments. And yeah-- y'know it's funny. Last night when my son and I went for a walk I asked him-- when was the last time you ran for fun, y'know like when you were little? (Anyone see that Friends with Rachel and Phoebe jogging?) And I took off running full speed-- no attention to style at all....it's fun!

A Little Pixie Dust--
Welcome!

I know a lot worse is going on with a lot of people but this feels like such a blow financially and emotionally. Thanks for listening.

Gosh that's hard. I know what that is like- it's like you are being punished for loving and caring for an animal friend. Health care sucks in this country for everyone but vet care has gotten out of hand also. You might want to check in your area for organizations that help with vet bills. We always just suck it up and pay the vet. So far we have been very lucky. You have to take care of your mental health as well though and depression is a real thing. Losing your bud right now would be very hard on you I think. Maybe take on a holiday job to help with bills...I was a bell ringer supervisor one year for Salvation army :-) They treated me really well and I was proud to do it.

Well, off to report weight and Cow then watch Sweeney Todd mmhmmm.

Have you volunteered in the past? If so what sort of volunteer work?

I did our local humane society, high kill pound, spay and neuter clinic, feral cat coalition, and a rescue organizations thrift shop. These days I have decided I need to spend time with my own critters- it's like having my own shelter lol. :confused3

Oh-- criminy. I'm our store steward too and I've volunteered for John Kerry's campaign and Hillary's.

Good morning everyone. This week has been crazy. Too much stress for me. I was not keeping up with going the extra mile that I need to do to lose weight. I also did something to my shoulder and it was very tender, swollen and painfull all day yesterday. The shoulder feels better today but it also could be why I am up a pound this week. It does feel better this morning since I iced it a couple of times yesterday and I did some of my shoulder exercises to help it along. I had this problem about 7 yearas ago and I kept the exercises that the physical therapist gave me back then.

I have some issues with some of my AP students not performing up to snuff. One took a test yesterday and I know she probably did not do well but then she asked if I will be in for extra help on MONDAY morning:confused3:confused3. Wasn't the test on Friday? I also have kids in my highest level class getting D's and one has an F. They can't say that I am not available because I am in my classroom at 7am everymorning and classes don't start until 7:30.

As bad as my problem is it is nothing like what Eeyore's Butterfly goes through every day. Special Ed teachers who deal with students like that are heros in my eyes. I don't know how you do that but you have my respect for what you can get accomplished with theses children.

I have done some volunteer work in the past. I have taught children how to quilt at a summer program at a local park. I am a lecture and an Eucharistic Minister at church and once a month I help with communion at a local nursing home. I have been working without pay for the last 9 years with the local high school's annual spring musical and I also spent some time working with that school's marching band. I also spent a lot of time with the Cub SCout and Boy Scout troop in town (Both my sons have become Eagle SCouts) and am now doing some work for council. I also recently helped my niece on her Gold Award project making blankets for Project LInus.

WOW I didn't realize I had done so much in the last few years.

Have a great Saturday everyone.

Well I spent the night here at the Animal Shelter because I'm on call. My treat for myself (after sleeping on a blow up mattress and listening to dogs all night) is ......breakfast at the Grille!
I did really well, only an omlette with swiss cheese and did not eat the homefries. I didn't eat very well yesterday evening, out of stress and boredom, it was a quiet night, only injured animal.

Have you volunteered in the past? If so what sort of volunteer work?
I worked at a horse riding camp for special needs children (loved it and want to start one on my farm after retirement) and I foster kittens here at the shelter.

 to you 50sjayne and mullysisters. There should be a special place in heaven for people who work with animals at shelters. :littleangel: It is unfortunate that there are not enough homes for all the little critters who need them. :sad1: All my pets have come from a shelter and they get to a forever home once they get to us.

And, donac and EeyoresButterfly, that special place in heaven for those who take care of animals is right next to the special place in heaven for teachers.

I volunteer every Friday in DS' elementary school. This year I am working in his regular classroom and then go help his AP teacher. Yesterday I was there for 4 hours. I really look forward to going there every week. They are so happy to see you and grateful for your help and support. Not to mention that the kids are pretty funny and it is very entertaining listening to them. :goodvibes

I've also done a lot of service work for the Idaho State Bar -- I was on the committee that wrote the bar exams for five years. And I do some pro bono work through Idaho Legal Aid or other charitable organizations that come my way, like our local PTA.

I went down another pound today which puts me where I can get my 15 pound ribbon back. I will wait and make sure it sticks around. I wasn't that good at tracking my intake the last couple of days but had activity -- maybe that it what is making the difference or my body realized that there is no hibernation this year so it might as well let go of that weight! I don't care, I'll take it.

pjlla and 50jayne, congratulations on being so close to your final goal! :cool1: Maybe maintaining a week or two would help your body adjust. :confused3

It is a beautiful, cold fall day here. The leaves are really colorful. I will check out what few tasks are left for fall cleanup. I hate to cleanup the yard early but it is worth it in November when it is sleeting and things still need to be done! Then DS and I will go see Toy Story so DH can beat the weather and finish a retaining wall project.

Have a great OP day all!

I volunteer through our church. We are involved in Habitat for Humanity builds and I pick up food from the food warehouse for the food pantry in the basement. I am a mentor to a girl living in a residential facility for kids with behavior problems stemming from abuse or neglect. I see her weekly. We work on puzzles, go to movies. My job is to be a normal adult. I can do that! I volunteer in our neighborhood association coordinating events, parties... the fun stuff.

Good Sunday morning!

Disney wants us to volunteer. QUOTD Saturday:
Have you volunteered in the past? If so what sort of volunteer work?

Well... the only current volunteer work I do is coaching DS's robotics team. But I don't really think of that as volunteer work, as it directly benefits DS. But I suppose it benefits all of the other kids on the team also, so there you go. I also got certified as a swim judge (stroke and turn official) a few years ago and worked for a season for DD's team... but I didn't enjoy that, so I didn't continue it.

I am less active as a volunteer than I have ever been in the past. I directed VBS at my church two or three summers in a row (and got TOTALLY burned out). I worked in the church nursery on a regular basis for many years. I organized and directed many fund-raising yard sales and rummage sales for church. I volunteered in my kid's classes regularly when they were in elementary school. My children and I were all involved in an American Cancer Society Relay for Life team for about 5 years. And many years ago, pre-children, I volunteered once a month for a group like Angel Food ministries. And as a teen I volunteered as a "candy-striper" at the hospital for several summers in a row. Oh.... I also taught ESL for a summer with a literacy group (can't remember the name).

So I guess I've done my fair share of volunteer work in the past, but I'm not doing much now.

I'm so impressed with how much volunteer work some of you do! I think I would like working at an animal shelter, but it would probably make me too sad!

Well... I had one of those "I-don't-care-what-I-eat" moments yesterday. They are becoming increasingly rare for me, so I'm not sure what brought it on. I had my "scheduled" splurge on Friday and that should have been it for the weekend (pizza and chips). But I ended up with some gastrointestinal issues Friday night and didn't get much sleep. Then I had to get up at 4:45 am on Saturday to get DD to her swim meet. My stomach was better by then, but not perfectly normal. I did okay all day with the eating and stomach distress (packed a bag of food to bring along).... but then when I FINALLY got home at 8pm last night I was having a big salt craving and I ended up chowing down on about 2 points worth of Baked Lay's. Not a big splurge, but I knew I was already 3 points over my limit for the day! Not sure what I was thinking.... I think I was just too tired to think right and resist the craving. But I hate the way I feel about it today.

I bought a new WATP DVD yesterday (4 mi I think??) and I plan to do the entire thing today. Hopefully that and some THOUGHTFUL eating will eleviate my guilt and my bloat!

After my exercise I need to make a bullwhip for DS.... he is going to a Halloween Birthday party today as Indiana Jones! He had originally wanted to be a Lego Brick for Halloween this year, but this party cropped up so early we didn't have time to get the costume made (I almost always make my kids costumes... the only one I have bought since preschool was a Buzz Lightyear that he wore for two years straight!). We found a great IJ hat at a costume store for $8. We bought a brown suede jacket and some heavy brown hiking-type boots at the Goodwill. I will make the whip from some rope and brown electrical tape. Add some pants and shirt he already has and he is ready to go! (We are opting to skip the gun.)

Well.... our "relaxing" four day holiday weekend ended up with something scheduled on EVERY day! DD had swim practice Friday and a swim meet Saturday. DS had a soccer game on Saturday and a birthday party today. And DD has swim practice and DS has soccer practice tomorrow! SO much for spending some quiet time together as a family!! I guess it is just as well our tentative plans to go away for the weekend fell through.

So what is everyone else doing this holiday weekend (at least it is a holiday here in the US)? Does any one have any great Columbus Day weekend traditions? We had one for years, but as the kids got older and more involved in activities, it became harder to do. For many years we met my DB and his family and my parents in the Poconos and spent the 3-4 days together at a rented house there. We always had a fabulous time. I'm sad it doesn't seem to work out any more.

Have a beautiful Sunday!.........................P

donac-
WOW I didn't realize I had done so much in the last few years.

You forgot this board--we all appreciate everyone that helps on a regular basis with this board! :worship:

Pjlla- I think I would like working at an animal shelter, but it would probably make me too sad!

Yeah I wont lie to you , it's tough at first and you adopt everything in sight for awhile until you get this sort of wall of defense built up that saves your sanity. I noticed this when I quit volunteering for awhile because I went from working part to full time and I had my own kitty build up. I started watching the animal precinct shows on animal planet and it just killed me.

Sundays quotd:

What was the last thing you ate?

I just had some bran cereal with A LOT of strawberries since they were going bad and 2 tiny pumpkin muffins.

Hope everyone is having a fun weekend. Friday I got the 2009 Disney planning dvd and it wasn't much different than 2008, but I still liked watching it lol. Last night my husband fixed a big turkey dinner because we had one in the freezer for ages, then we went out to our local haunted corn maze which is sooo fun...good exercise too.

:grouphug: to all the volunteers here!! My volunteering time has been done at school and church. I am hoping there will be an opportunity to clean up a park or something that our family can do for our free tickets next year.

We went to see Toy Story 1/2 yesterday - like a previous poster said I forgot how enjoyable they were! It was fun. Yes I had some popcorn:: but not much - it wasn't as good as it used to be. And that's a good thing!:rotfl2:

With our one dog with the bad knee we've really got to make sure our other pup gets more exercise (so she won't be too frisky) so that means more walking...for me, another good thing. :woohoo:

This has been an odd weekend, trying to get through it and get back on track. I feel like I've got a head full of something...ach.

Good morning everyone! Hope that everyone is having a wonderful week-end. :goodvibes

After my exercise I need to make a bullwhip for DS....

Sounds like a lovely Sunday afternoon! :rotfl:

Hope that your stomach is feeling better. Maybe that is why your body wanted some salty food to help you get rehydrated.

Sundays quotd:

What was the last thing you ate?

The last thing I ate was a slice of homemade banana bread. It was a small slice even though I did made a couple of changes to improve the healthiness of the recipe, i.e. egg whites for a couple of the eggs.

Green chile stew for dinner tonight -- it's a good dinner for a crisp fall day!

I'm a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, I just completed my 35th year -- I started in 1st Grade! So, I did a ton of volunteering as a child, I think that's why it's been natural for me. As a young adult, I joined a service sorority in college. We still had dances, pledges, etc., but we also did lots of work for the community -- there's my plug for Alpha Sigma Gamma!

I've branched out to volunteering for my church, ds's school, and the various causes I've had gainful employment with -- community groups, Girl Scouts, criminal justice, and the homeless. I'm finding less and less time to spend volunteering -- when you work for a non-profit, it takes so much out of you. I think you really need to spend your time off with your family and recharging, so you have the energy to spend for the people/cause that needs your full attention at work.

I did 5 mi on the TM this AM. I haven't eaten yet, so in answer to Sunday's QOTD:

The last thing I ate was two organic chocolate chip pecan cookies. There were my dessert last night. I guess I'd better get working on brunch!

Maria :upsidedow

I just finished two slices of rye bread with asagio spread for my lunch.
Not really great I guess but I don't always eat veggies at work. We'll have a nice dinner at home tonight. I missed the official dinner the family had Thanksgiving on Saturday at the new farm. I was working but my nephew and girlfriend announced their engagement so that's something to be thankful for! There's lots of good food at home, veggies and all.

Thank goodness my shift is almost over, it has been a long weekend at the shelter, many sick and injured animals, so I need a break.
I haven't had a chance to read all your posts but I will catch up tonight.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all! :flower3:

Happy Sunday.

For me it is just a regular weekend. I have to be in school tomorrow morning. Schools here have the option of being open or closed. I can't complain. I have 3 weeks and then I get the famous Jersey Week off from school. Next Monday I go in late for a full day inservice.

It has been pretty quiet. Yesterday we went to a pretty famous local farm market that is hugh. Dh bought out the place. I did get some soup for dinner last night so I didn't have to cook. I got some squash and apple soup and dh got veggie with crab. He didn't like his as much as I liked mine but that is okay since it gives me something to eat for lunch this week. I did enjoy a cherry turnover even though it wasn't planned but i did fit it into my eating plan.

Today has been church and grocery shopping. IN a little while I am walking down the street to see the COlumbus Day parade. Then I making roast chicken and I have to limit the amount of skin I eat. I still want a little but I will try not to eat as much as I have in the past.

Sundays quotd:

What was the last thing you ate?

I just had a hard boiled egg and I will probably have a piece of celery and an apple at the parade.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the day.

Not being very good today! Got a bit of a cold so eating for comfort! Went to see Toy Story1/2. Went to Panera for b'fast, then went to the movies where I had a small pizza and a little bit of popcorn. Didn't exercise yesterday or today but plan on getting back to it tomorrow and the rest of the week as I've put back on a few since Friday. Off to a friend's in a few to watch the Patriots game and will probably order something out while we are there. Did so well last week so I'll have to get refocused tomorrow.

I am also a lifetime member of Girl Scouts .. that is my primary volunteer outlet. I was a girl scout for 12 years and now a leader for 7 so far. I was our Neighborhood Chair for 5 and still in charge of Products for the 35 troops in our neighborhood. I love it! I also volunteer for our church for various activities including teaching religious education to Jr. high students.

Sunday QOTD:

I have not been a good girl today :sad2: I have been craving donuts terribly! I broke down and had them today... brushing myself off and moving on... griling shrimp for dinner with grilled veggies... have to keep working on the COW!

Sunday QOTD: I have a lot of volunteer experience. I co-founded an organization at my frist college that was dedicated to volunteering for children's causes. At Truman I was a member and later advisor of a co-ed service fraternity called Alpha Phi Omega. I also served on service committees at both the Baptist Student Union and Catholic Newman Center. When I worked for Disney I was an Angel (volunteer) for Give Kids the World, the resort where all the wish children stay. I mostly drove the cookie cart or the trains Big Blue and Little Blue.

Now I am a volunteer for the Make A Wish Foundation of Kansas City, and once I submit my background check paperwork I will be a wish granter.

My cough continues to get worse. I called in today even though I originally planned on working today. I just can't do it when I am coughing like this. I was able to get Urgent Care to change my work excuse and my doctor's office is being a real gem and worked in a new patient appointment for me tomorrow. They keep giving me antibiotics even though I'm pretty sure this is not bacterial in nature, so I'm hoping that seeing my real doctor will get me started on the right path.

Tomorrow I am out of my classroom for training on administration of the alternate state assessment which should be interesting.

UGH! We ordered Chinese food at our friends house. So I really have to get it back together tomorrow! The sad day for my Sox and Patriots didn't help! Salads, apples and veggies tomorrow and lots of Wii Fit and walking workouts tomorrow! Also, time to start decorating for Halloween. Also, got into a Queen mood today so I'll be singing and dancing around the house to them tomorrow!

The paperwork, fingerprinting and background check - I had to get a TB test, too - are time consuming. Now that it's all cleared I can take my mentee off the grounds. They have PK through 6th grade on site. Highly structured, pretty rigid. She likes getting away.

I heard about give/get a day. I don't think we can use it for our trip in January. The sites don't have the requirements nailed down. The time frame is too short (arrive 1/8). Disappointing. We can use the 4/7 for one day (staying five nights).
