Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

, donac. You are such a good wife and daughter-in-law! You do so much for your DH's family. Can you have one of those meals where everything is cooked by the grocery store and your just reheat it? That way you wouldn't have to cook. It sounds like your DH understands and appreciates what you do, even if no one else seems to? :confused3

Hope the rest of your week-end is better!

Thanks Lisa for the kind words. I am trying to think of what I can do differently for Christmas. I know that dh does appreciate everything that I do. The really nice thing about yesterday was I finally saw the quilt I gave my inlaws on their bed for the first time.

QOTD I am much better off if I preplan all the meals for the week. This helps me keep on track.

I too am feeling burn out. I have not gotten into exercise as much as I thought I would. I know that this is a bad month to start but it may be the right month to start to keep me sane in this crazy month that is getting ready to start.

Thanks for the coaches. I just realized that I never posted a new COW for this week. I will get back to you about this later on.

Well work's been crazy (I work at a grocery store) and since we got back from our trip I have just been throwing myself into the black friday phenonemenon. I did very well this year getting most of my big purchases online and today got everything I wanted including a microfiber bed for $20 of which I knew there was only one of at Shopko-(dude, I Rock) I am very happy with the whole scenario.
Weighed myself at 7 am after getting back and taking a bath before sleeping 6 hours and found out I lost 3 pounds this week. Will sneak in that movie at some point this week. I'm just one pound from my goal of 135. This will be a tough week as we have so much great food around. I will be completely dedicated to storing left overs. Shouldn't be too hard I'm still in my ultra organized black friday mode. ;)

LuvBaloo, I share your "diet fatigue" I'm really tired of thinking about what food I eat. Although I seem to be slowly losing, I'm tired and hungry.

:

Another one saying you shouldn't be hungry or having it affect your energy. In the time that I've lost my weight I have never been hungry. So something should give for you. More protein? Just thinking outloud.

Also, diet fatigue. I understand because I have scale fatigue right now. ;) However I also want to point out that I rarely think/give focus to food. I don't want to debate this with others - everyone has their way to lose but it doesn't have to be measuring, fat grams, calories, all healthy, points etc. Just pointing out it doesn't have to be - obviously it can and works tremendously well for others. I'm looking at your being tired "thinking about food" and letting you know that I made a decision years and years and years ago that I would never look at food in that manner again in my life because I knew my personality and knew it would take to joy out of food for me. I try to eat consciously and eat what I want to most.

I'm sure my weight would come off faster if I looked at food in another manner but I don't that for my life. So I won't do it. My life being happy is more important than the speed of my weight coming off.

I can hear your frustration. And I hope it lessens.

Shannon, I hear your frustration as well. I'm sorry. What do you think the issue is if you could name it? If that's too personal - ignore me!;)

Shannon,

We have three weeks left, right? If so I'm going to skip next weeks weigh in. I want to go to two week weigh in for myself when I finish this challenge and I want to test it out in the safety of this round. Yes, it might backfire in my face but I want to give it a whirl.

I'll PM you next week to be on but I want to give it a try. I have such a stuggle with the scale. I'm over my numbers reading much higher than my look (hallelujah!!!!) but I'm not over becoming obsessed about it in general. In the last few weeks I've hopped on during the week and gave it so much energy - not good for my head.

Thanks Shannon - and thank you for all your time and energy.

Crap. I just read someone is one pound from goal. I most go back. That is fantastic news!!!! Just fantastic. :goodvibes

There she is - it's 50sjayne!!!

This is so exciting. I'm so happy for you. One pound from goal!!! Just a smilin' for you. :worship::laughing:

, Lisa. I went up 2 lbs. from last week's weight. But I was down 4 lbs. on Wednesday -- I know I didn't eat anything close to 4 lbs. even with the Party Mix incident so I am hoping it is water and will quickly go away! :thumbsup2 I am drinking lots of water and going to be hustling all day long! And I am right back on plan with the eating and exercise. A little bump in the road is not going to get me down! :thumbsup2

Don't forget to PM those weights to LuvBaloo and COW points to donac today.
Thanks for the PM reminders. I tend to forget.
I'm sure it's water weight, and getting back on plan will see it gone so soon. Sounds like you all had a nice holiday with some laughs. That's great.

I was able to lose 3 pounds this week. I busted my butt and was on my best behavior yesterday.
Whoo hoo!!! 3 pounds is awesome!!!

I was just talking about this on my other thread. Food can just sit in your stomach and that's all it is. Food sitting in your stomach.
This is so true. I was just thinking this morning, that if I had been to the bathroom, my gain would have been less. Can't rush mother nature. That's why we truly do fluctuate on a daily basis, and if we know we are on track, and see a gain, we must know that it is part of that daily fluctuation, and we can't let it get us down.

Sorry I don't really have time to respond to the QOTD. I've got to go check my veggies in the oven. As I mentioned previously, we have ANOTHER big T.giving meal today with my family (yesterday was with DH's family). I did a REMARKABLE job (if I may say so myself) sticking to my plan yesterday. The only real change to my plan was I skipped the one glass of wine I had planned and had a bit of extra dessert... and it was so worth it! DSIL made sweet potato bourbon cake... so yummy. And DD's chocolate peanut butter pie was SO rich and yummy... glad I only had a half a piece. I was very full at the end of the day, but I really stayed on my plan very well. I drank plenty of water and seltzer and had just one diet soda (Fresca) as a treat.

I skipped almost ALL of the appetizers... but had 3 shrimp with cocktail sauce, a few salted nuts, a handful of grapes, and a clementine from the appetizer table. Then I sat down next to my SIL on the sofa and just turned my back to the appetizers for the next hour or so.

So far today I've done well.. but dinner is yet to come! I did have a few licks of the spatula when DD made another pie today... but other than that I had my on-plan breakfast and workout this morning. I should get in another 15 minutes, but maybe I will walk this afternoon after dinner if the rain lets up.

Anyhow... my WRITTEN food plan was SUCH a POWERFUL tool for me yesterday. I kept thinking about what I WROTE and tried so hard to stick to it! I hope the idea helped other as well.
You are doing so great, especially with all your celebrations this week. I too found the plan that I wrote down to be a big help, and thought of it several times during the day yesterday and it helped keep me in check. It was a great idea.

I am down over 2 % this week! Woo Hoo! Feels good to finally be going down again! It took me 7 weeks to lose 5 lbs because of all the ups and downs.

Have a great day all!

Sarah
Whoo hoo Sarah!!! Love that new clippie- it looks marvelous.

I am truly lacking in committment to weight loss. I am yet again trying to re-motivate myself, and I am planning no McD or A&W until January. I am finally starting to stick with the exercising, and have done something 7 out of the last 9 days, so that feels good. I want to keep that up, and keep journaling my food.
When its been a crazy day, its either subway or sandwiches and salad at home. I've been buying the baby spinach so that its always available for a quick salad.
On Sunday, I will probably be cooking a turkey, since DH loves them, and that will give us lots of leftovers to get through the week.:thumbsup2
Next week, I write a final exam for my current course, and I haven't signed up for another one right now. It will be nice to not be doing one over Christmas. And the kids Saturday activities end tomorrw, so December should be a more relaxing month.:goodvibes
Glad december will be a quieter month for you. It is so hard to keep up the motivation when life gets hectic. Wish I had some words of wisdom, but to keep coming here, and keep on trying when the motivation is lacking, is all we can do sometimes. Just to not give up is the best we can do some days, and then the next day may be better, and we may find ourselves with a little more motivation. Hang in there Shannon. Thank you so much for all your time and effort with the weightkeeping duties.

Will do my weigh in tomorrow as I ended up having to work most of the day instead of 2 hours. Got in a 3 mile workout early but then had to eat and get ready for work. I know I'm probably up a little from yesterday. Just going to eat some leftovers as I didn't have time for lunch and we have no GRAVY! Guess I'll have to fix something else and have turkey leftovers on Sunday.
Nice work on the exercise!!

LuvBaloo, I share your "diet fatigue" I'm really tired of thinking about what food I eat. Although I seem to be slowly losing, I'm tired and hungry.
It is actually easier to stay OP when I'm working and resist all that fast food/Timmies/and co-workers baked goods. Why, I don't know.
When I have a day off from the City I get bored, I'm alone at home and I go through the kitchen over and over.
When I read how much exercise/activity some of you manage (with kids!) I have so much admiration. I'm on my own, with sis, and find it hard to get on the TM.

I know the holidays will be challenging -

I think I'll have to
1. not buy "really" naughty foods ie- cream cheeses, pastries, Christmas Pudding (with brandy sauce)!
2. keep getting outside, walking and riding, even though I sometimes want to lay on the couch and watch Christmas movies:happytv:
3.not let myself get so hungry that I make poor choices:guilty:
4. check in with BL8 (you guys)daily and remember how important it is to me to get my BMI down.:thumbsup2
A quick and easy recipe?
We buy single servings of Tilapia or salmon. Put them frozen in a Corningware with a handful of frozen veggies and a light salad dressing. Add a few spoonfuls of dried herbs. Microwave about 5 minutes. I love salmon so this is a favorite.
When we get home late from the City we usually have a complete cereal like Guardian. This wouldn't work for families I guess, how do you do it?

Thank you to those who sent me good advice about eating-I know it's true but it's good to hear it from others.
I try not to think of this as a diet, but as a lifestyle, and if I feel hungry, I will have something to eat. I don't ever feel deprived, but my weight loss is very slow, and that is ok with me. I think Lisa mentioned more protein and I agree that increasing your protein intake may help keep you satisfied longer. Your plan for the holiday season sounds great, and I love the idea of the fish in the microwave. I never microwave fish, but I should try it. Hang in there.

Thanks Lisa for the kind words. I am trying to think of what I can do differently for Christmas. I know that dh does appreciate everything that I do. The really nice thing about yesterday was I finally saw the quilt I gave my inlaws on their bed for the first time.

dona, you are a wonderful dil, and I'm glad that your husband does appreciate you. I can't imagine doing all that work, and not being appreciated. It must get frustrating. I think the prepared meals from a grocery store are pretty good, and you should consider that, and take some time for yourself. I haven't done as good on the exercise lately either. I think I'm going to join the monthly exercise challenge for december. When I was doing them, I was definitely more consisitent with the exercise. The wii fit tallies them, but when I figured it out, I averaged about 700 min/ month, but with the exercise challenge, I would commit to 1000/ min a month and usually make it.

Whoo hoo!! Nice job on the loss. And a big :cool1: congrats for being so close to goal!! Maybe you'll start our maintainers team this week!!!

Lisa, this is great, and you have been very successful.

Well, I ended my day with a double cheeseburger meal from McD's. I could have had a salad. Oh well, back on track now.

Been running around like a crazy woman since I got home from work. Ended up ordering pizza so I could actually get stuff done. No time to work out though I've hardly sat down since I came home this afternoon. Cleaned the family room THOROUGHLY! Made muffins and cookies for the vendor fair fundraiser I'm doing tomorrow and didn't touch any of them! Only had one real meal all day though it wasn't a healthy one. I will be able to get back OP on Monday! This weekend is just too crazy busy to focus on exercising! Promised my girls I was totally theirs on Sunday as I was gone most of today and will be gone all day tomorrow! Gonna have to do some major snuggle time on Sunday! Think we'll build a fire in the fireplace and watch movies!
Have a great weekend! I will send my weigh in before I leave for my fair tomorrow! Definitely a gain but when I have a gain or a small loss it gets me to focus more the next week!

Way to go on only being 1 lb from goal! Woo Hoo! That's fantastic!

I have lost 43% of the amount of weight I would like to lose. Only 57% to go! 9.4 more lbs and I will be half way to goal! Hopefully by the end of the year!

Sarah

Thanks for the support guys. I couldn't believe it this morning I stared at the scale for about a minute in disbelief. When I officially get to 135 I'm getting the 40 pound clippie and keeping it. I will have the constant reminder of what 40#'s is because I get the 40 pound scoopaway at Costco :). It still just seems unreal to me but the reality is--when I spend waay too much time on the computer and my back is strained I get over it in a day or less. When I pick up something that is too heavy at work-- it takes a ton of weight and just wrong handling to really hurt it these days and again-- a few days max to heal. And I look decent in pictures. all the things I wanted ;-) It's still hard for me to get clothes because I'm not really convinced I'll fit in the smaller sizes but the reality is I am fitting, and my own clothes are really getting too big. So in summation-- I'm glad. It's worth it ;-)

Nice job Tracey on the muffins and cookies. Can't say that I've ever baked without sampling, but I guess that why you're getting so close to your goal and I'm not!! :rotfl: Enjoy your down day tomorrow. We had yesterday and today as down days because I'm on call, so we just hang out, and hope the phone doesn't ring. They're so nice.

Saturday QOTD- When and where was your last disney vacation, and when do you think you will be going again? For those who have been to more than one disney parks/cruises, what is your favorite?

We got back from wdw 2 weeks ago, and I don't have a current plan. I was thinking about next thanksgiving, because I don't know how long I'll be able to take michael out of school. School vacation weeks are so expensive. I've only been to wdw, though I've been thinking I should do DL and do a california vacation one day soon. I am planning a disney cruise for my 50th birthday which will be feb 2014.:rotfl: I think I have a ways to go before I can book it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

50sjayne, that is so exciting that you are ONE pound away from goal! :cool1::yay::cheer2: I will be happy to put your name down as the first person on our maintainer team very soon! :thumbsup2 And you have the kitty litter to help remind you how far you've come. :cat:

Sarah, almost half way there! :cool1: That is so fantastic! :cheer2: You have worked so hard this year and your hard work is really paying off!

Saturday QOTD- When and where was your last disney vacation, and when do you think you will be going again? For those who have been to more than one disney parks/cruises, what is your favorite?

My last Disney vacation was three days at DL in August. My next Disney vacation is 8 nights at WDW with DH, DS and Mom and sister in just 19 short days! Thank goodness for our DVC! :thumbsup2

I have to say that DL is my favorite. It is the original park and the one that I grew up with. It is also where I sewed the names on the Mickey Mouse ears when I worked there more than 18 years ago! :earsboy:

I am working today and listening to the music from Spaceship Earth. It is the price that I pay for vacation but I don't mind (too much). It's quiet so I should be able to get a lot done -- if I get off the Disboards that is! ;)

Have a great day all!

Congratulations on your loss!!! :cheer2: I can't wait to be in the same place as you!

As for me -- Thanksgiving was good. I maintained this week. Unfortunately I hurt my back last weekend and wasn't able to exercise at all this week. So, I think a maintain is good for me! I may have to take a trip to the chiropractor this coming week as my back does not seem to be getting better. It's amazing - but I really miss going to the gym. And, I'm the one who said that I don't like working out and I don't look forward to it on a day-to-day basis. But, now that I haven't been able to work out all week - I'm feeling the difference and am itching to get back to the gym and doing my WATP videos. Amazing what a difference a few months makes :thumbsup2

Saturday QOTD- When and where was your last disney vacation, and when do you think you will be going again? For those who have been to more than one disney parks/cruises, what is your favorite?

Our last Disney vacation was cruise on the Magic this last September, followed up by a day at Typhoon Lagoon. I absolutely love the Disney cruises! It's so much fun to take the magic of Disney and go to exciting new places. But, I also love the parks -- so it's tough to decide. I've been on two Disney cruises, but to the parks many times in my lifetime. Our next Disney trip is scheduled for April 2010 -- we're joining the Magic in Barcelona for an 11 day Mediterranean cruise. :cool1:

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

Have a great weekend everyone!

We always took the kids out of school and we'd go for 5 days. We were in Disneyland in March, our spring break. I was reluctant to take the boy out this time because it was his last year of highschool and he is autistic. Worked out great though because Easter was about 2 weeks out still when we went. We are going in late June this year because that's when my sis in law and mom in law goes. I've been to Disneyworld once when I was a teenager and it was ok, the humidity was bad when we went though and I got sick.

I have finally had the time to read all of your posts and get caught up with your Thanksgivings! Thank you for responding to my brief rant about food- I won't let it get me down any more. Lisa your post was very true, time to stop focusing on the scale. We are eating so much better.
I'm going into my sisters club as a guest to be evaluated by her trainer for a "home-plan" since I have no time to get to a gym.
50sjayne- :cheer2: WTG- we all know how hard that journey must have been.

Saturday QOTD- When and where was your last disney vacation, and when do you think you will be going again? For those who have been to more than one disney parks/cruises, what is your favorite?

Last trip was my 50th. DSis splurged and booked CSR for me. We had gone there once to have dinner and I loved it. That seems like a long time ago now! It was a fantastic trip too!
I'd love to go to Disneyland and see the differences. I bought and read "Disney Mountains-Imagineering at its Peak" last trip and have been fasinated by the Disney "mountain rides" - they are all in the book: Matterhorn, Space Mountain-both, Candy Mountain(never built), Splash, Big Thunder, Mount Prometheus in Tokyo, Grizzly and, of course, Everest. I want to see and ride them all!
I thought we were going in Sept09 then Feb10 but it has been hard to get away from the farm so it's some time in the future. Maybe a retirement trip in '13 (not actual retirement but no more big city!) Until then I can dream:upsidedow.
This is a 1994 Dan Goozee painting of Mount Prometheus in Disneyland Tokyo.

QOTD: My last Disney trip was...now! I'm on the bus from Epcot back to Kidani. I'm going to throw a couple frozen pizzas in the oven and relax. I had 3 small pancakes with lite syrup and some strawberries for breakfast and the holiday turkey sandwich minus the mayo from Earl of Sandwich for lunch. I just had a small skim latte, but no other snacks at all today, so I guess the pizza won't kill me. Unfortunately the Walmart we got groceries at was wiped thanks to the holiday, and they didn't have any salad dressing I liked, so I didn't buy any salad. We have lunch at CP tomorrow though, so I'll make sure to eat plenty of greens there.

I've never been on a cruise at all or to DL, but I'd like to do both. Our next trip is planned for spring break 2011 with DH's whole family. Most of them have never been. Easter isn't til late April that year and spring break is always the last week of March for us, so I think the crowds will be ok. After that we plan to do a cruise when the girls are 13 and 16. Gosh that sounds old and it's only 3 years away! I'm hoping DVC will offer a free cruise with add-on again in a year or two that we can take advantage of! Just have to meet a few other financial goals first before we can jump into that!

Saturday QOTD- When and where was your last disney vacation, and when do you think you will be going again? For those who have been to more than one disney parks/cruises, what is your favorite?

My last trip was this past summer. I was recovering from foot surgery and in the middle of July I was moving pretty good so dh suggested a trip to DW because he knew if I really needed a wheelchair we could get one without any trouble. Within a half an hour I had the airfare booked and the hotel room booked with a discount.

My only trip to DL was on our honeymoon 31 years ago. we wanted to go back for our 50th birthdays since it was also Dl's 50th but we never made it.

I love DW because of the different options you have for places to stay that are still on site. We have stayed at all different values depending on our circumstances at the time. We also love the campground which is not available in California.

I don't know when I will be back. This past summer was a surprise trip. I know that ds2 is dying to go back for some reason. He mentioned it the other night that he is dying to go back. I do know he and his brother are planning a trip for 2012 when ds2 graduates from college.

I think that will be when dh and I go back also. I think it is Dw's 40th anniversary.

Have a great trip Sara
