your right Lisa. The scale is not even in the top 10 of the success rating :hippie:
It is a tool to measure pounds ... not inches...not health... not feeling better about yourself. It is a tool... not a monster that is going to eat you... not that high school kid that made fun of you... it is a THING that we control.
I could tell you the total amount my scale has told me I have lost but that is such a minor thing compared to how I feel. ;)

Make it a major point in your life to find 1 NSV (again non scale victory) every single day! It may be something completely minor such as squeezing through a door when there is only a crack in it ...just something small that you can smile at yourself and stick your tongue out at that scale :cool1:

If you are changing your lifestyle ...eating right and working out the scale is most likely not as accurate for you at first... building muscle, losing water weight, body going into total shock ... these things effect that scale number.
There are many people who try really hard only to gain 2 lbs in a week. How frustrating is that?!?!!

I do keep a measurement of what I weigh using a scale but that is not the only thing I do. I also take accurate measurements of my body and keep record of it. Once a month I yank out the tape measure and measure my chest, waist, hips, thighs and bicepts. Between these 2 tools I know where I am and where I should be.

Enjoy life ~ be happy ~ happiness is the best way to drop pounds :thumbsup2

Wow! I think we're all the ones who are going to benefit most from having you aboard with us! Great inspirations throughout. I totally agree with the measurements. They are a great inspiration, especially when scale movements are on hiatus. I'll have to work on the daily NSV. That could be a great booster for me somedays.

Hey, do that mani and pedi this week and you've got anther 10pts on the challenge! You joined in time for a fun one. The page and post # are in the thread title if you haven't seen them yet.

Hey Thanks! The hubby and kids went to the big monster jam show tonight so I am here all alone... guess which night gets to be my "ME" night?:lmao:
Do I get bonus points for a nice long bubblebath?:rotfl:

I actually knew a girl who would make herself sick with nerves and throw up whenever she got on a scale :scared: sometimes people get so focused on that scale they forget all the good stuff :goodvibes

Like I said, I live for NSV's!!!!! They are the BEST:hippie:

Another great thing to do is keep a top 20 list of things you would like to do when you reach your goal... things you can't do now but would like to.
Fold up that piece of paper and HIDE it. That way you can look at it later on and be soooo happy when you can cross things off the list :cloud9:
The list is VERY hard to write for some people. It can be a very sad time for others ... but it is so worth it in the end!!!!

I am chalk full of good info as I have had lots and lots of training and support groups and counseling..personal trainers.. you name it :lmao:
I went into maintaning my weight 6 months ago and have done very well. I have recently decided I will be at the GF this June in a <gasp> bathing suit so I had better get my butt back in gear to lose those last 15lbs :lmao:
So here I am going back into weight loss mode and wanted a place to be held accountable. and sooo I don't do this: popcorn:: :rotfl:

Well, very nice to meet you! I went to college in Pennsylvania. I've been to California once -- for the 2006 Inaugural Disneyland 1/2 marathon. AWESOME!

Cam. Did you follow any kind of schedule when you first decided to start walking & running? I need something different in the exercise world.

:welcome: praline!!!!!

I also had Gastric Bypass, but I'm nearly 7 years out. Trying hard to relose about 30 pounds, plus the last 25 I never got to in the first place. (I lost 250 althogether, but at this point I'm down 221 from my highest). What kind did you have? I had a very distal RNY. I am so glad to have you aboard--a kindred spirit!!!

We are a wacky group here, but lots of fun and lots of heart. GREAT support all around.

forgot to mention--a new experience tonite for me (and NOT a pleasant one). I have some serious heartburn/reflux going on! Where is this coming from, I wonder?

I have bumped up my fiber--could that be it? I didn't eat anything different today except baked beans, and that was at lunch, 8 hours ago. No problems until after dinner. All I had was a 2 ounce extra lean hamburger, 1/2 cup of rice, and 1/2 cup V8 juice. I feel awful! It's been so long since I felt this way that I actually forget what to do! (and I have no Mylanta, TUMS, or anything else like that in the house).

Someone suggested hot water, but the thought of it makes me gag. And I do NOT need to barf up my dinner!

Hi there! Glad to see I am not the only post op here :cheer2:
I was worried I might not be welcomed because of my surgery :thumbsup2
I had RNY 2 years ago. I have lost a 150 pounds (lost 30 pounds as a pre op for a grand total of 180 pounds lost) but I want to lose my last 15 pounds that I have been holding on to. Have no idea why I am holding on to it... I guess its in  with me :rotfl:
I am going back to my roots so to speak. I got my protein shakes out and am starting at step 1 post op ... that should help me throw this weight.
It is NOT easy to do being 2 years out though :rotfl: Hopefully it will jump start things. My biggest issue is <BIG GROAN> HEAD HUNGER!!!!
Mindless eating without thinking, social eating... munching.... I mean I haven't GAINED any weight back and I have maintained my weight BUT I would really like to push myself to finally get to goal:cool2:
WOW 7 years post op that is :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :worship:

I am having issues with our June trip. My DD6 and I will be going to Disney for her 7th bday. JUST HER AND I.... trying to get a sugar free cake ordered and delivered for her bday as she will be crushed if she has to eat her cake alone :sad1:
This is the first run in when I might for a split second regret my surgery... but I will get it worked out before we are there :cheer2:

OKAY everyone back to normal programming......:hippie:

For me both the rice and the v8 would give me problems. The rice will swell in my pouch and HURT...crampy heartburn feeling. The v8 has more sugar than I can handle ...super sensitive sugar dumper here :rotfl2:

Oh, I WISH I was a super sensitive sugar dumper!!! If I was, I wouldn't have gained back any weight!!! The only thing that makes me dump is apple cider. Anything more that 1-2 sips and I am SOOOOOOOO sick!

No, rice has been ok for about the last 4 years, and V8 for a long time. Can't be either of those...

Warm water is good if something is stuck... it helps loosen it up and go down better. If nothing is stuck then you might have to ride this one out.

Did you have your GB removed? I know before I had my GB removed I would get the worst heartburn feeling after eating even 2oz of broth!!! I am sure you know we are 10 times more likely to have GB problems that is why I was asking... might be time to go in and get a u/s on the GB:rotfl:

Good morning losers!!!!!!!

I had a wonderful evening to myself last night:goodvibes

With DH and the kids gone, I caught up on DIS, took a nice long bubble bath and gave myself a mani and a pedi :cheer2: (ding ding isn't that 5 points?)

Somehow I lost 7lbs in 1 day :rotfl: :confused3
I had my start weight all set up yesterday, got on the scale this morning and I was 7lbs less :rotfl:
Yes I am a post op but SHEESH the weight doesn't fall off THAT FAST :rotfl:

I think I had some bloating or too much salt this week? Maybe the extra water I drank flushed it through my system? anyway, as this morning's weight is closer to what I usually weigh, I pm'ed Brenda and asked her to change my start weight to this mornings weight :thumbsup2

Speaking of which.... who hear gets PLENTY of water?
Do you know water is an EXTREMELY powerful tool to losing weight?
There are several things water does for your body...
1. You can gut load yourself with water.... this is loads of fun :upsidedow
IF you are dealing with the munchies and HEAD HUNGER (knowing full well you shouldn't be hungry but still find yourself hunting in the pantry)
Take several glasses of water and sit them on the counter. Shoot those bad boys down like your a college kid again and its beer :rotfl2: Get as much water down you as fast as you possibly can!!! I would suggest not doing this in front of anyone as its hysterical to see SOMEONE else do it :crazy2:
This will give you a good Head hunger free hour.

2. Water flushes out fat cells!!!If you don't drink enough water for your body, it can actually make your kidneys and liver work harder and the result being your body stops burning fat.

3. Most aches and pains, cramps and other sore feelings most likely can be dehydration. Yup if your stiff in the morning you might not have drank enough water the day before! Of course if you were in the gym for 2 hours the day before... well we won't go there but most cramps are brought on by dehydration.

4. Drinking more water makes you younger looking!!! IT hydrates all those tiny wrinkles and is better than botox :rotfl2:

So how much water do you drink in a day? Did you know that 8 glasses might not be enough for you? The 8 glasses of water rule is the average for someone who is average weight...are you average weight? If you are a bit more fluffy than average you should be getting more water!!! Losing weight and dieting also makes your need for water higher...flushing out toxins, fat cells... you get the idea here.

SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!! NOW GUZZLE UP AND HAVE A WONDERFUL MUNCHIE FREE DAY :beach:

Good Morning! Welcome Praline!

I usually get Plenty of water daily. Yesterday we ended up being out all day though so I think I was lacking and boy did I feel it. I keep a bottle of water with me all day and refill it frequently. One day at work I calculated and just at work I had almost 100 oz :drinking1
To top it off yesterday I ended up having a couple glasses of wine. Add that to the 3 I had on Friday and eating out both nights :sad2: :guilty: and my 1.2 lb loss I was seeing is changed to 1.2 up :crazy2: Gonna have to get plenty of water today and EAT RIGHT!! I know better, but do I do it... NO:rolleyes2

I did get to the gym 4 times this week which is GREAT for me :cheer2: but I overslept yesterday morning and missed my yoga class.

I have gotten my 8hrs sleep for the challenge the last 3 nights at least!

Hope everyone has a Wonderful Sunday!!

Now when you were at the gym those 4 days, was that for cardio or strenth training? Remember if you are using weights you want to give your body 2 days break so your muscles can repair themselves. If you keep breaking those muscle tissues (which is what your doing using weights) they need time to repair themselves for optimal muscle building! If you lift to often you might be counter productive!!!
I like to do 3x a week cardio (treadmill, bike) and I only break up my muscle tissue once a week. Some people will do it twice a week but on my once a week day I really push myself!!!! I usually warm up with the row machine (AACKKKKK I swear that is an ancient torture device!!!)
and then work on the weight machines the rest of the time. Remember to work those tricepts!!!!! Tricepts are the weakest for us ladies. That is where we get that nice lovely hang when in short sleeve :sad2:

Wine is naughty when on a diet BUT ...wine is better than a margaritta!!!!! So pat yourself on the back for not picking a big fruity drink. Do you know some of those fruity umbrella drinks can have over a 1,000 calories a glass?!?!

Get your water in today to flush out those toxins, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start a new day with a smile in your heart and a lightness in your step!!!! We didn't gain all of our weight in a day and we surely are not going to lose all of it in a day either!!!!

The four days at the gym were primarily cardio. I like doing the classes. It was Hi/Lo cardio, the 2 water aerobics, then a class called dancing w/ weights. But the weights were awkward and he wasn't saying what to do w/ them so I only used them breifly.

I used to really like margaritas, so I have been doing better picking the wine :thumbsup2 thanks for pointing that out! I have been really struggling with the wine-diet issue this week. I am trying to lose weight to be a healthier happier person, but also DH and I have decided that we will start trying to get pregnant in July :cheer2: (anyone who's read my journal over the last two years knows that I've said that more than once :lmao: this time it is FOR REAL!) So, I definitely want to lose as much weight as I can now. BUT, I also really enjoy my wine and I know that after about mid June it will be Gone Gone Gone for probably at least a year and a half  :scared: SO... I have been wanting to allow myself to enjoy it some while I still can  I'll just have work harder to control my eating and do more exercise to burn it off ... I guess :scratchin

Stay tuned for "how's that working for ya?" ;)

Not drinking for the next 1.5 years?! TRY THE NEXT 10 YEARS :lmao: :rotfl2: :crowded:

Good luck on that baby making STUFF :cheer2: have fun trying and KNOW "BABY MAKING" when done RIGHT burns tons of calories :cheer2:

Praline- Welcome
foxfire- When we went to oprah, dr oz said you should have 1 glass of red wine a day and sex as much as you can. This will reduce your real age by leaps and bounds.

I would really like to thank my buddy Brenda, i have had a terrible week and without her i would be about 20lbs higher this week.

Thank you to everyone again for their support

Amanda

Welcome to the WISH. Glad you are here!

A pretty good day for me both exercise and food-wise.

I have joined sparkpeople, to help me with my food choices. I would like to lose more than 1 pound per week; 2 at the max.

Take care all! :cheer2:

Never heard of sparkpeople? What is this?

nothing was "stuck"--I know that feeling all to well. It's better today, but I had to go get some antacids. Never heard of the warm water for the "clog"--I'll have to try that next time!

I still have my GB. I had problems with it back in college and just after, but the US I had pre-bypass and again a couple years later showed no problems.

SparkPeople.com is a WONDERFUL site where you can track your food intake, fitness, etc. They also have a GREAT support board. (ALMOST as good as our Dis BL board here, but not quite!) I've found it very very helpful and educational.

Well if it keeps up and this is not a once in a time kind of thing, I would call and make an appointment. GB problems act differently with us
They do start out with that feeling you were explaining but get much worse if you let it go too long.
The latest research shows the majority of bypass post ops end up having to have it removed... one of the biggest side effects after surgery... oh joy huh?

It might not be acid in your pouch but rather a blockage of EWWW gall!
If this was a one time event, I wouldn't worry but if it keeps happening... get an U/s. I had a u/s pre op and no problems. three months later I had really major stones and had to have it all removed... it can happen FAST.:flower3:
