Biggest Loser 2009 - Couples 2

Subscribing.
I can't wait for the new season to start...I really am starting to like this show.

Why is it called Couples again? I can see some of them being married/romantic couples but it looks like a lot of them are friends/family???:confused3

It's just couples because it's teams of two. I guess "couples" just sounds better than "pairs" or something.

I have no will-power for any type of diet. I need to work on portion control and snacking though. I used to use the elliptical while watching t.v. (especially during the biggeest loser.) I really should start doing that again.
That's a good idea too bad I don't like to exercise at night. Of course I don't like to exercise at all.
Although Jillian is great I'd pick Bob, there's already too much crying.
If these people are so heavy, they have to be careful doing exercise or there will be a lot of injuries.

I'm not certain if I am going to watch the new season in January or not. This fall was the 1st time I ever watched Biggest Loser. My motivation was my own weight loss journey since last spring/summer. I was REALLY turned off by the "game playing" aspect of the show. I am also working with a personal trainer who is NOTHING like either Bob or Jillian. The first time someone yelled at or belittled me in any way, I would be so out of there.

I am really concerned about what I am hearing about the amount of weight the new contestants are carrying. I just can't imagine a 450 pound person exercising for 5 hours a day. And I fear that NBC will put "the show" infront of someone's health. The consolation is that the show has already been filmed so what ever has happened has already happened! But I also worry about the message that the show is sending out to morbidly obese people about the "safe" way to lose weight permanently.

Lastly, I absolutely CANNOT watch the show live. Within two weeks I was taping it and watching it later so that I could fast forward through all of the "repeated" parts. I did watch the finale show live, however, and loved all of the "goofs."

Anyway, to make a long story short, I may or may not watch in January. But if I do, I will certainly check in here regularly to see what you all are thinking!

Donna

I will say, Donna, I worked out with a trainer while living in MA. I had the same trainer for years and she never ever yelled either BUT that being said I was paying her BIG $$$. These contestants KNOW, know very well what is ahead of them. They have watched all the past seasons with Jillian and Bob and they are paying nothing to be a part of the show and IF they LOSE all their weight, they will win allot of $$$$. I think that is the difference. Also so many contestants this season (and past seasons) lost in excess of 100lbs....so I am soooo thinking the yelling WORKS!!! ::yes::

I absolutely feel this show does NOT need to be 2 hours.........way to many commercials and way too much repeating when coming back from a commercial...........boy do I love my DVR for THIS show. I tend to do allot of "ffing" through BL!!!

Also, they have many MD's and professionals on the campus that do indeed monitor their health regularly. ::yes::

I think the injuries are what make for great television. The reveals in the end are fantastic of course but a great deal of Americans tune in to this (and all other reality shows) for that inevitable moment when somebody dies. It's a horrible thing to think but it's bound to happen. Fear Factor almost pulled it off.

Sort of watching car racing for the crashes. I hope no one dies, I still watch, rooting for their weight loss.

WHEN was Dr. Huzienga a contestant??? I watched every season and don't recall him. Are you confusing him with Dr. Jeff?

I'm here! I only posted once in the last thread at the end. (Yay Michelle!!)

I've been watching BL since Season 2. I absolutely idolize Jillian and I am a weekly listener to her radio show. I know she is a tough cookie, but she has a heart too. The fact that we've seen her cry on the show is proof that she does this because she cares and she wants these people to lose. If I were on the show, I'd want to work with Jillian. I like Bob too and I certainly like how his blue team always seems to gel, but I need a Jillian!

The Biggest Loser has been a real inspiration to me. I have 100+ pounds to lose and I've been struggling for years. In July I went back to Weight Watchers for the upteenth time and I've been losing slowly since. My husband is also going to WW with me. I am hoping that by this time next year I will have lost 100 pounds. I know I can do it!

As for Kim, I never really liked her. From what I read she is working on a new book, a new line of DVDs and a new artificial sweetener.

.... I thought LAST season when the contestants went to meet him he told them he was once also a contestant on BL???

So I decided to google him and NOPE, no where does it say he was a contestant!!!

SORRY!!! :guilty:

Ah. Gotcha.

And I hate burberry plaid..not the user. Just the acutual burberry.;) Around here, wearing anything in burberry plaid, whether that was a purse, scarf, I even remember seeing a teenyweeny bikini in burberry or whatever, was a status symbol for a while. It was EVERYWHERE and now I can't stand the sight of it.:rotfl:

Aww..that's ok! I just thought I was losing my mind and totally missed something.

Oh...I love burberry plaid. I only have a purse in bp....I want a quilted short jacket in bp....saw one in Bloomingdale's and it was way too $$$!!! :scared1: It was actually reversable. :thumbsup2 Tan on one side and BP the other side. :goodvibes

Oh...but while we are on the subject of Dr. H....would someone please on BL allow HIM to go to their MAKEOVER staff.....he sooooo needs to do something with HIS hair!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::yes:: We are NOT in the '80's anymore!!! :lmao:

I like the idea of working otu while watching the show. I may ask my parents for a Stride Cycle for Christmas. It's a $20 set of pedals that you can use anywhere. Sort of like an exercise bike without the seat. I think it will be good because I can do it while I am on the computer or on the TV, and it can be an arm or a leg workout.

I'm trying to use this show to help inspire me to get things under control for myself. I would love to be on the show, but I am nowhere near heavy enough. I have about 25-30lbs to lose to be at a healthy weight for my height and age. I want to lose 50 and get back down to what I used to be, but I don't know if that's a reasonable goal for me anymore.

I was diagnosed with diabetes this semester and that has been really hard. I am a complete carb addict and now I have to really limit the amount of carbs I eat. That has been the most difficult. I had great results with Weight Watchers when I was following hte program, and even then I was eating lots of pasta, bread, etc. My doctor is threatening me with medication for both diabetes and cholesterol and I'm only 24! My cholesterol isn't even that high for a non-diabetic, it's considered safe, but they want people with diabetes to maintain a lower level. Hopefully this show will help me keep my motivation high so I can avoid all that.

KAREBEAR!!!!!!!! Eeyore's Butterfly!!!!!!
Sorry, I get excited easy. HOW in the sam hill are you????

Dr. H needs a bit more exposure. Only on the first and last episode is kinda lame. We need more medical tid bits, I'm thinking. And more specific diet/nutrition info. Obviously to pull those big numbers, the diet is LOW calorie and they are working out 6 hours a day (which is what the book says :scared: )

Oh, were you'ins at all bugged by the constant "product placement" and blatant infomercials? :headache: Like the PRIZE of getting to have a banana split with Bob which ended up being a Jello brand pudding with Cool Whip brand whipped cream. Just a bit over the top. If you didn't notice, you're welcome for bringing it to your attention so it can bug the crap out of you next time :rolleyes1

and don't forget Subway, those green water bottles, and gum (which btw, the watermelon was nasty)

Eeyore'sButterfly--I'm with you. I LOVE bread and pasta which is why when I tried to do Atkin's I failed miserably. I love my carbs. :rotfl2: I also have an addiction to processed food, which I know is bad bad BAD for me.:guilty: But it's so fast and easy..it's hard to break the habit. I joined The 50 Million Pound Challenge and my ultimate goal is to be 20 lbs lighter by the time we go see The Imagination Movers in March.

I do work out while I'm watching TV...Wii Fit has 'free' run and 'free' step so you can still run/walk or do your step aerobics while watching TV and I find that is a great distraction. I forget that I'm exercising. Also..if you have TiVo and it's connected to your wireless internet, you can download some workouts for free, which is a great way to introduce variety into your workout routine. :)

I hate to admit it but I'm always compelled to overeat while watching this program. I'll usually grill a couple of burgers or cover a plate with chicken and veggies. I need to work on my quantities. I did manage to drop the 10 lbs I gained last year but I think it would have been better if I had just worked it into muscle instead. The pounds are coming back though. Illness has helped over the past few months but that's not the best method of weight loss. My goal for 2009 is to be a fit 170 or 175. Maybe I'll start a fitness thread.
