Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge--for Losers and Maintainers

Question of the Day

Can you name one thing that has helped you on this journey?
The support and encouragement of everyone here has been the one thing that has been consistent for me in this journey, the reason I haven't given up many times when i have been backsliding. You all rock!!!!

Deb- So happy for the good new on Hunter, and hope things get smoother for you from here on out.:goodvibes

Buffy-Congratulations!! So happy for you and I loved reading all about the race. Such an amazing time for both of you and a memory for ds to always treasure.

Sue- It was pretty warm in Maine, and as we were packing up the room at 11, the wind started whipping off the water and it cooled down a bit.
I can't think of a place here in town with the nearest neighbors 1 mile away. I think I feel so safe here because my neighbors are so close.

Maria- Love the rolo story. Bummer on the steps. I have a soft spot on my front porch, but keep something over it because I hope to make it at least another year before replacing it. Glad to see you.

Off to work now. Have a great day everyone!!:)

Have looked at 60-70 houses in 6 neighborhoods! Taking today off to THINK.

Tomorrow we are going to just a few houses we have not seen yet and going back for 2nd showings of the top 10 so far. I have an email in to the HS to see if there's anything further I can do to register DS while I am here. I brought all his records with me and all I am missing is proof of residency!!
Hoping and wishing they will let me get registration going w/o the actual proof yet. We'll see.

Need to go shopping today for some Summer clothes and shoes. Had dinner last night with my BFF who is coming to visit me on May 22. We went over our trip plans and I answered a lot of questions she had. We are going to have such a blast. We have named the trip Shawn & Shannon's 50th birthday European Adventure. We are going to start in Germany, go to Paris, London, Prague and end again in Germany.

Called T-mobile and got my phone working again. They tried to say I had a phone that was not T-mobile but I bought it at the T-mobile store in Germany!!! I broke down and bought 1000 minutes that do not expire for a year so DH and I can talk back and forth as much as we need to this week.

Did very well with eating yesterday. Had a fantastic salad from the Whole Foods salad bar for lunch. YUMMY! Had a large burger for dinner with a gin and tonic and a few sweet potato fries. Scale is the same this morning. I have jogged every day for 4 days:cool1: Today I ran a different route so not sure how far and the other 3 days 2.4 each day.

Deb: Congrats on the clear MRI. I know you are so relieved.

Karen: Good luck with the Summer job hunt !

Buffy: You ROCK !!!!!!!!! LOVED the race report and the photo! That would be cool for me and my DS one day. I think he would really enjoy it.

Emily: You did AWESOME at the race too!

Maria: Welcome back! Always enjoy your posts.

Hello to everyone else. Time to shower and get going!

Shawnprincess:

I'm on my third load of laundry, decided to change beds since I'm home today. I've made a container of crepes for the boys to heat up for breakfast over the next few days. I'm tempted to make a cake, but I know that I will end up eating it so I'm trying to resist.

My Droid has been dropping calls so they are sending me a new one which should arrive by 4:30 this afternoon. I have to be here to sign for it so I can't run out to do errands.

We placed 617 out of 785 for the co-ed teams
Race time - 46:24; hunt time - 38:04; total time - 1:24:28

Pace time: 14:91 minutes per mile!!

I think the photo says it all -- what an incredible memory and a wonderful time in all ways -- Great job! :yay:

Today turned out to be a not so bad day. I did use a lot of my weeklies, but I still have almost half of them for the rest of my week. I'm calling that a positive. I also did better than 4:40 miles on the recumbent bike today. I did 7.66 miles in 35 minutes, which included cool down. I'm calling that a positive too!

The weeklies are there to use, don't feel bad when you do! I'm glad you made it to the gym, it sounds like you enjoyed your workout :thumbsup2

I got in 7 miles of WATP today. I plan on doing a 4 mile walk in the morning. I have to go to work and I found out my boss won't be coming in as one of her kids is sick so I will be there by myself from 9-12:20 when my co-worker comes in. I have to run and pick up Lego Pirates of the Caribbean tomorrow. Can't wait to play it! Probably won't get to start it until Wed or Thurs night. BUT I GET TO PLAY IT FIRST!!!!

Sounds like you have a busy day planned, enjoy your new game! :goodvibes

I swear doing a race in Disney is probably the only way I'd ever get motivated enough to run

Sue -- This is true for me -- I literally started running when I told dh I wanted to do the WDW Half in 2008. I started training in January 2007, and I haven't looked back! I figured the only way to convince dh to ever go back to WDW would be to incorporate something new, and at that point neither one of us had done a Half. Since then dh has done 6 Halfs and 2 Fulls, and he has three more Halfs scheduled for this year. I've completed 5 Halfs, and I am a huge fan of Disney races! :lovestruc

It's been a roller coaster ride for me today. I am elated that Hunter is healthy :cool1: Excited about the prospec of a new job. Disappointed that I had to give notice that the other job, frustrated that the menus I printed last week for the Restaurant have errors (due to computer issues). Tomorrow is a new day with great new opportunities :goodvibes

Great news about Hunter! The quick job shuffle is sometimes the best thing. I left a position for a new one at the beginning of Summer 2000, and by the end of the summer knew it really, really wasn't for me. My current position, which literally matched all my qualifications but still had some room for growth, was advertised and I knew when I applied it would be a perfect match for me. Eleven years later I wake up (mostly!) happy to come to work, and eager for new projects. It's true that sometimes the best position for you isn't available exactly when you need it, but in just a little time, there it will be :thumbsup2

Question of the Day

Can you name one thing that has helped you on this journey?

Lots of things, but right now the key seems to be in journaling. Seeing what I'm eating helps motivate me to exercise even when I don't want to, and also gives me a realistic sense of what is going in my mouth

Not much time this morning so this will be a quick post.

Have a great day, Lisa! I can't believe your Half is so close! I hope you are getting excited! ::yes::

Maria- Love the rolo story. Bummer on the steps. I have a soft spot on my front porch, but keep something over it because I hope to make it at least another year before replacing it. Glad to see you.

We've been doing the "make it another year" for about 5 years now, and it's clear we can't...on the bright side, our mason said he thinks the infrastructure is sound, based on the way the brings are crumbling off. At least once we fix this, we should never have to worry about it again. :) Have a great day at work!

Have looked at 60-70 houses in 6 neighborhoods! Taking today off to THINK.

Wow, Shawn! I would need a day to think after all those houses! I'm glad you are taking some time to get them straight in your mind and find the perfect fit for your family. :flower3:

I'm on my third load of laundry, decided to change beds since I'm home today. I've made a container of crepes for the boys to heat up for breakfast over the next few days. I'm tempted to make a cake, but I know that I will end up eating it so I'm trying to resist.

It's good to be in your house -- clean laundry, fresh bed linens, yummy crepes! I made a cake that is WW-friendly for me and the fellas this week -- just haven't got to it still eating the Mother's Day cake they bought me...anyway, it's literally just angel food cake mix and a can of pie filling. It's a decent treat with not a ton of calories.

I got up and did my 3M this morning before work. It's a good thing I have tomorrow planned as a rest day. I have to come in at 6:30 since dh is bringing me before he heads to NH to meet my FIL. They're going to Maine to set up FIL's camp. FIL and his wife spend most of the summer up there. Anyway, I'm getting myself home which means a nice long walk to the subway. I'm trying to think if there's anything I want to pick up since I'll be walking through Downtown. I need to get dh's birthday present for later this month, maybe I'll stop in at Macy's...anyway, I'd better get back to that job I enjoy so much! :rotfl:

Maria :upsidedow

UGH! Tummy is really bothering me today! Not sure what it is! Trying to drink extra aloe and water to make it feel better.

Catching up on podcasts here at work. Co-worker should be here soon and my client shortly after that. He usually tans first so I have a few extra minutes. I need to leave right away so I can pick up Ash at school. I've made my short list for the grocery store as I had already bought most of what we needed on Friday. I need to go to Costco and iParty and Dollar Tree either tomorrow night or Thursday night. Need favors for Ash's party and supplies. Glad her party is small. She wants a Oreo Cake for her sleepover on Saturday and a Star Wars cake for next Wednesday. She will get her gifts on Saturdayand Monday. We will give her the sewing machine, sewing class and the Sharpay DVD on Saturday. On Monday we will give her the gift from her sister and the rest of her Star Wars themed gifts. I'm waiting for some of them to be shipped so hopefully they will arrive on time. Having Chinese food on Saturday for supper. Hoping I won't have to work on Saturday.

Client's just pulling in so I had better start getting ready. Hopefully my co-worker will get here on time!

aloha everyone!

just wanted to make a quick drive-by post to say hi to everyone! we are really having a great time so far here in maui. sure, i'm up at 4:30am every morning but really is it that much different than getting up at 6am most days anyway?? the time change hasn't been as bad as i thought it would be on thomas.

and the plane ride with thomas? HE WAS AWESOME!! on the flight to chicago we wound up having a seat between us free so he sat and played with the seat belt for practically the whole time!

the flight from chicago to maui was about 8.5 hours. thomas fell asleep before take off and slept on my cousin tracey for about 2 hours! he ate, played with stickers, watched toy story 3 (as soon as it ended the DVD player died), took walks up and down the aisle and was overall a really good boy. he would cry any time i got up to pee and didn't bring him as he is SO CLINGY lately but that's it!

when we landed everyone around us complimented us on how good he was. what a superstar. we managed to keep him up the first night til about 6pm and put him to sleep. he has done well with the time change.

anyway, i've been eating like crazy though which is not so great. and my belly is starting to pooch out for sure. but hey, it's vacation and i'm pregnant so what can ya do? ;) we've been to the beach and the pool and have been having a great time.

hope everyone is doing well! i will have ALOT of catching up to do but DH needs his computer back to do some work (ew!)

Tummy is fine now. Don't know what the trouble was this morning. Just starting supper. Ash is having pulled pork again and Brian and I are going to have cold cut paninis with fries. Izzie will probably have mac and cheese cup.

Got $32 for the games we returned. Got a Capt. Jack Sparrow LEGO character when I picked up the game.

Time to get back to making supper. Brian is home!

Just a quick check in since i am beyond busy today. I did the first day of P90X last night and survived. I am a bit sore today but not horrible. It was the core synergistics dvd and I was surprised to see that the cardio bits of it I could keep up pretty well...like jumping jacks, towel jump, knee lifts. well except everytime I jump I tinkle a bit. sorry for TMI but boy after two kids I just cant control it. Im only 32. Anyone else have this issue. Is it normal post children or should I mention it to my doctor? Anyway. I was disappointed that many of the exercises included some very difficult form of push ups. I cant even do 1 regular let alone lifting a leg while I am doing one. I did what I could and modified them but i would prefer something different. I am going to try to stick with it though. Tonight is cardio!!!!!

Talk to you later!

I would say it's fairly normal but I would talk to your dr about it anyway. But in the mean time kegel kegel kegel!!
Basically when ever you get a chance squeeze the muscles like if you were using the bathroom and you stopped the stream of urine. that's a kegel. But don't make it a habit when you use the bathroom, that can actually weaken the muscles.

From the Mayo clinic.
Perfect your technique. Once you've identified your pelvic floor muscles, empty your bladder and sit or lie down. Contract your pelvic floor muscles, hold the contraction for five seconds, then relax for five seconds. Try it four or five times in a row. Work up to keeping the muscles contracted for 10 seconds at a time, relaxing for 10 seconds between contractions.
Maintain your focus. For best results, focus on tightening only your pelvic floor muscles. Be careful not to flex the muscles in your abdomen, thighs or buttocks. Avoid holding your breath. Instead, breathe freely during the exercises.
Repeat three times a day. Aim for at least three sets of 10 repetitions a day. You might make a practice of fitting in a set every time you do a routine task, such as checking email, commuting to work, preparing meals or watching TV.

Have you tried wall ups instead? That might be a better option for now.

Evening everyone!

This is going to be a quick post because I've got a to do list a mile long. We are 6 days from heading to Disney World.. Don't remember if I mentioned it or not but we have 2 new pets now. Mom's cats are now living with us full time. We had them de-clawed last week. Taylor had a harder time then Dublin so she spent an extra few days at the vet. She's having a vet visit every day for the next few weeks to help heal her paws. They swelled up pretty big so she's getting cold laser treatments for the next week and a half. I'm hoping she'll be really improved by the time we get home.

Dublin will be staying at the house while we are gone. My best friend is going to come check on her a few times while we are gone. Taylor will be boarded at the vet so they can keep a closer eye on her.

Well, I'm off to do some more sorting of laundry. Alan will be home in a few and we need to figure out dinner.

I have the same problem and sometimes (not often) I've full blown had an accident. After a few times of that I went to my dr. She put me on vesicare and I don't have it happen as much now.

I am so far behind! Just a couple quick shoutouts.

Lindsay
--my tinkle issues got better as I lost weight. I know this is not true for everyone, but it made a big difference for me.

Deb--I am so very happy that Hunter is ok. And I hope you LOVE the new job.

Nancy--glad you are loving Hawaii.:goodvibes

Tracey--I might have missed it, but anything new with your Mom?

****

I've said it before and I'll say it again, all you Moms and Dads who handle the crazy schedules--you are my heroes! I added one adult person to my household and it's been very busy! (Of course he's still my baby and a little needy at times. But needy in a good way.:goodvibes)

So I went to the chiropractor today. I am cleared to do everything except run. So that's good. He told me I am having a particularly stubborn case of itbs. Lovely.

Anyhow, things are going well. I am off tomorrow, so I'm hoping to catch up. :)

Nick had a game tonight. They played well again and won against one of their more difficult teams. It's amazing how much they have improved in such a short time. Nick is really playing well.

I got a bunch of odds and ends done today, it feels good to take control of my house again. Tomorrow will be a busy day with lots of errands and lacrosse of course. Hunter has a game tomorrow night and I promised to go to the JV practice for a while.

Evening All!

I just lost my fairly long post and I only have a few minutes, so I'll try to summarize. Overall, today wasn't a great day. I did a lot of stress eating. I would love to know what is stressing me out, but I'm not sure. I'll keep thinking about it.

I'm down 1.2 at WW and should at least be able to maintain that if I stop stress eating. I'm planning to go the gym tomorrow and hopefully again on Thursday. I cannot go on Friday, unfortunately.

Mini-Challenge for Wednesday, 5/11: Do something you find relaxing (other than the Dis or exercising) for at least 10 minutes.

Checking in quickly. I have been BUSY! Barely home most days and when I am I am still cleaning out and organizing, had a garage sale on Saturday, did stuff with the family on Sunday and yesterday spent 5 hours deep cleaning my bedroom. It had become the 3rd catchall room and I wanted it all cleaned out! And I went through several dust cloths. I swear after an hour of dusting all my knick knacks and collectibles I was ready to throw them out! I love my stuff but the dust really builds up quick.

I need to go get my Pool board stuff together and organized. I sent a letter basically resigning from the board because of some issues I have with the way some things are being done. I want to have my stuff ready to turn in.

Weight loss hasn't been good though. I am holding at the same place for the last few weeks. Can't get these last 2 pounds gone. But I am not eating as well as I should be. I need to kick myself in the rear and JUST DO IT.

Sorry, guys! I'll post results tomorrow morning. Got into LEGO POTC! Fun but a little confusing at first!

Soccer practice got cut short by a few but that was good as I had to get to dancing early for costumes.

Mom had a CAT scan today. She said it was awful. My sister said she did well and they had no problem finding a vein for the contrast. Mom was ticked as she didn't know she was going to have that! My sister said that she was going to be a difficult patient. I really need her to talk to a friend of mine who just survived colon cancer! Glad I have tomorrow off. I need to go get stuff for Ash's b'day tomorrow evening. Hope nobody wants a massage tomorrow as my wrist is bothering me.

Back to the game!

TTFN :tigger:

PS I just need to do something relaxing tonight!

Good wednesday morning Teams

Had a pretty good day yesterday. I had to tell administration about a problem that happened on Friday. I had a professsional day but they had so many people absent that they didn't have enough subs. During the day I found out who covered each of my classes since a different person was in each class. When I got to my last class ans asked them who covered their class they told me NO ONE CAME:scared1:. They told me that they took attendance and kept quiet. It is one of the top classes in the building. When I told one administrator his one comment was "Please tell it is was your AP class and not Integrated (one of the worst classes in the building). At least I could telll him yes.

Went to the local high school band concert last night. Ds2 is home from college and went to see some friends. At the end of the concert they sing "An Irish Blessing" and ask any former graduates to join them on stage. We were sitting close enough to hear someone say Sean is coming up. I was surprised since he is a pretty quiet but up he went. It was nice to see him perform again.

Question of the Day

Over the course of this challenge we have to gotten to know each other pretty well but there is always a long dark hidden secret being kept. Tell us one thing that we don't know about you.

I got this is idea because at my school we just had a mystery person contest. we had to give clues and the faculty had to guess who was who. They told us the correct answers yesterday and will announce the winner of the contest at the faculty meeting Thursday.

I took up the piano at the age of 42.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Question of the Day

Can you name one thing that has helped you on this journey?

Keeping up with the boards and reading everyones posts has keep me motivated. It's good to know that I'm not alone if I'm slacking and that I can get right back on track like everyone else.

Sue- It was pretty warm in Maine, and as we were packing up the room at 11, the wind started whipping off the water and it cooled down a bit.
I can't think of a place here in town with the nearest neighbors 1 mile away. I think I feel so safe here because my neighbors are so close.

I agree completely about being close. Granted, we live in a townhouse so I can see his point but a mile is crazy. Not to mention it's 20 or so minutes to the grocery store each way and 30-40 minutes to a hospital :scared1:

Have looked at 60-70 houses in 6 neighborhoods! Taking today off to THINK.

Wowzer :scared1: When do you need to make a decision by?

Sue -- This is true for me -- I literally started running when I told dh I wanted to do the WDW Half in 2008. I started training in January 2007, and I haven't looked back! I actualy went out running/walking last night and I really don't enjoy it. It's weird but my feet feel heavy and I feel so short running and I'm really tall. Maybe I'm just nuts :rotfl: This morning I have pain in the front of my shin so I'm thinking maybe shin splints, but I'll give it another try tonight as long as it's not pouring out. I have my new ipod shuffle with good songs, so that helps.

and the plane ride with thomas? HE WAS AWESOME!! on the flight to chicago we wound up having a seat between us free so he sat and played with the seat belt for practically the whole time!

Aloha, glad to hear that you're having fun and that Thomas was great. I hope Dylan is good on our flight next week too. Granted it's a lot shorter than a flight to Hawaii.

Just a quick check in since i am beyond busy today. I did the first day of P90X last night and survived. I am a bit sore today but not horrible. Hi Tracey! Did she get any results yet or a diagnosis for sure?

Question of the Day

Over the course of this challenge we have to gotten to know each other pretty well but there is always a long dark hidden secret being kept. Tell us one thing that we don't know about you.

I was in a rap group in high school. When I tell people they laugh outloud b/c I don't look like I fit that mold at all :lmao:

Good morning everyones special hi to my former team Mickey. I just wanted to send and update on whats going on. After my surgery for the melanoma March 16th things have been slow. The county nurse that came in when I got home put the wrong bandage on the open wound where the skin graph was placed. This resulted in part of it drying up and dying. I have been basically in bed toes above the nose since. i have battled infection went to the doctors yesterday things are looking better but we are now waiting for the areas that the graph died to grow new skin a slow process. I am to remain off my feet as much as possible until its healed (he said sould be in about 6 more weeks) UGGH
The good news is that I can make the trip to Disney with my family this upcoming weekend as long as I do very minimal walking. It will be my first experience with a scooter but I hope it will still be fun....
I guess a better view than my own home will be a good change and hopefully pick up my spirits.
Please to both teams use sunscreen. I loved the sun so much and I loved using tanning beds as well (never thought it would be me) I now have a large hole in my leg the size of a tennis ball or larger and 4 inch incision where they took out the lymph nodes in my groin area and a large red spot on my thigh were they took the graph from. Do not follow me..... Check any moles you may have as thats where mine started. I would be willing to share very graphic pics of what my leg looks like now if you send private message. very sickning to look at I will probably never go out in public again with it showing.
Thanks for all the comfort and support to the team and the Dis boards itself as they have meant so much to me over the past few months.

Dona, what a great question. I am a germaphobe. I don't like my feet to touch bare floor. I don't like to touch door handles outside my home. I use lots of hand sanitizer. I could go on and on but you get the picture. Love your son's name;) Thank goodness for that good class, that is very impressive.

CC, for the stress eating. You will get it back under control!

Lindsay, I think that is pretty common. Mine comes with a big sneeze. My Dr asks me about it every year at my physical. I think it's a probe to see if she can write a script or get a surgery out of it!

Tigger  for you Mom.

LTS, sorry about the pool board but it will feel good to drop that from your schedule. Is your younger dtr still going to participate? I think you said older dtr was not due to shoulder?

Rose, :cool1: for a good check-up.

BronxNancy: :yay: for good flight with your Son - that is awesome. Glad you are enjoying Hawaii and I think you should enjoy the food while you're there and get back on track when you get home:goodvibes

My day is not starting out well. First day I didn't get up at 6:00, got up at 8:00 today. Not feeling well and already ate 2 oatmeal cookies (220 cals total). Don't think I will run today, have run the past 4 days and yesterday I ran 3.1 miles, the furtherest I've ever gone. I was excited yesterday to do it again today and time myself but I've decided to take the day off exercise. I'm up .5 on the scale today so still pretty much holding it together despite all the temptations facing me. Lunch at Taco Bell yesterday was $2.15 and 500 calories - fresco crunchy taco and fresco bean burrito.

Went shopping yesterday. The Malls are so empty! It's depressing but I guess that's the economy and what a week day looks like. I bought a new pair of capri pants, 4 tops (1 is going back), running capris and top and new sandals-Clark bendables. Not real pretty but oh so comfortable! I am now in 16 capris and Medium top. The Medium is a little snug but I don't like how the Large is so much longer. 10 lbs from now the Medium will fit much better:goodvibes

I'll have to be extra careful with food today since I didn't jog and I ate those 2 cookies:headache:

Feeling a little better and more motivated already just by connecting with you guys:love:

Have a great day!
