Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge--for Losers and Maintainers

and we were on the deck checking out the animals when I got a call from my friend/Associate Pastor regarding an issue with a display we had used for our Haiti fundraiser. As he was saying "bye" he mentioned he was sorry about our grandson. So I stopped him and asked to explain as we had no idea what was going on (our daughter was struggling within herself on whether she should call us or wait until we got home, poor girl)

Anyway, our little Caleb was having a difficult time focusing on things and they had him checked. What the doctors discovered was that he has a cancer called retinablastoma (spelling?) that is on the back part of both eyes. This is, I do believe, not life threatening, but can result in loss of his eyes. So we got the news and changed our plans to come back home to be with her and our son-in-law.

I guess they grade this cancer from A (best case) to E (worst case) and Caleb is at a "B", so that is great news. And the specialist is confident it was found early enough to treat with chemotherapy to remove the tumors. So we are very pleased with the initial reports. They are discussing treatment options as we speak.

I will keep you, my teammates who are family to me now, updated as to his progress. And if you desire to lift up prayers for him I ask for the following:

1. Removal of the tumors
2. The marriage of this young couple remains strong.
3. The we, the parents, can remain strong for the kids.
4. That Caleb grows to be a strong young man.

Thanks for your support teammates.

Dave

I'm so sorry to hear that your family is going through this. We went through a medical crisis with one of our sons and I know how scared you and your family are right now. We will certainly pray for Caleb and your family. We know first hand that miracles do happen and prayer is so very important.

Dave- Im so sorry about your grandson. I will be thinking of him and his speedy recovery.

P- :cool1: on the 3lbs lost!!!

Im in on the journaling. I started journaling again this week and I think it has helped me lose a pound! I am two away from my BL goal! Plus I have started some form of exercising...leading to QOTD:

My weighted hula hoop came in on Monday and I have been doing it daily. Lets just say it hurt the first day, so imagine me with a big goose down jacket on doing the hula hoop for added insulation. Double benefits: it doesnt hurt to hula hoop and I break a sweat faster :rotfl:

Im keeping track of my measurements for my waist so that I will know when I reach my wedding dress measurements.

speaking of wedding, I found some bridesmaid dresses that I like. I like how they are all different but coordinate together.

1773.jpg

I just need to pick bridesmaids!!!

I love the dresses:love::love:

Dave - I am so very sorry to hear about your Grandson. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

My weekly workout is:
Monday 30 minutes cardio & 20 minutes upper or lower body
Wednesday 30 minutes cardio & 20 minutes upper or lower body
Friday 30 minutes cardio & 20 minutes upper or lower body
Sunday 30 minutes cardio & 20 minutes upper or lower body

This week I only had a one pound weight loss. Hoping it will be better next week.

Thanks,
Team Donald

I decided to save my fish for tomorrow night (sloppy joe night) and make a SB-friendly pizza for myself and I must say it was really tasty..... and virtually carb free except for the carbs in the tomato sauce and a few sundried tomatoes that I scattered on top. I would actually eat it again even if I wasn't trying SB!

Was hoping to find the time for another short workout or walk tonight, but not sure that is going to happen. oh well.

Gotta fly...... dropping off DS for the play. We will hang around for the hour until it actually starts to avoid the wasted gas of driving home and back again. Maybe I'll throw my sneakers in the car and get in a quick walk while I wait!

TTYL......................P

Pam - your pizza sounds great. Did you have any type of crust? What play is DS in? Andrew is in Kiss Me Kate. I hope you had fun!

Marcy- congrats on booking the cruise! Love the idea of a car full of adult beverages and then souvenirs. ;)

Ugh! Between the iPad and slow DIS boards, I am going to have serial posts. Sorry!

QOTD for Saturday April 9:
This is a fun one for a Saturday. Use one or more DISBoards smilies to tell us something about you or about someone you know.
. :)

So, my journal challenge buddies, did you journal your food today? I did and I used some of my weekly points for much-desired jambalaya that was in the freezer from two weeks ago. Still proud that I froze it then rather than eating it all. It was a fun Friday night meal over a plate full of broccoli tonight.

Have a great night everyone!

Well, I'm off to bed early tonight, I'm not feeling that great. I got my 30 day countdown to Disney calendar made. I plan on turning in our group assignment tomorrow and then going to do some walking on the treadmill.

How absolutely devastating for everyone. I'm so sorry to hear this. We will definitely be lifting Caleb up in prayer going forward. I will throw out an email to my Tuesday morning Bible Study group as well, asking for prayers. How old is Caleb??

TTYL......................P

Thanks so much. Caleb was born on January 11th, our 1/11/11 baby.

Dave - you've got it. Prayers, support, and well wishes for a complete recovery for your grandson. Kids are so tough, I bet you all will find yourselves bolstering your spirits from his strength. :grouphug:

By the way, I thought of you today when we officially booked Seattle to Alaska on the Disney Wonder for June 2012!!!

HOW COULD WE PASS UP A CHANCE TO SAIL RIGHT OUT OF SEATTLE!?!?

We are sooo looking forward to being able to drive to the port with whatever luggage and liquids we can carry! And my DS reminded me we can also bring home whatever we can carry - souvenirs from Alaska, Victoria, the ship - including Duty Free!

I'm going to make DH take his Tux and DD and I want to borrow full length "prom" style dresses for formal night.
Since this is not a "hot weather," beach, or Castaway Cay cruise, I figure we'd play up the formal/romantic aspects.

It's like our "ship has come in!"

Now, admittedly, DH was silent when I told him I transfered our "dummy" onboard booking to this. I think he is still reeling from having just been on a huge Cruise/theme park vacation... and the Visa bills came today.:headache:

The kids are so excited though. My DD14 knows this means she'll likely have to work during college! :rotfl:

Hey everyone - I love hearing about all of your workout routines! Everyone is working hard and making the changes and good choices that produce results.
Good job and keep it up!!!:yay:

Marcy

That sounds like so much fun. Now if Disney can buy one of the San Juan Islands for our own Castaway Cay (are you listening Mr. Iger??!!)

Dave

Good Saturday morning Teams I know everyone has things that must be done today but try to find something fun to do. After working all week you need to do something to make you happy. It doesn't have to be a lot. JUst something.

I have another quiet weekend. Ds1 will be around all weekend. His girl friend is visiting a friend in Fl and he has work so he couldn't go. He has been around the house since Wed. She comes home tomorrow. I don't know what he is going to do today.

I journaled all day yesterday. Because I was journaling I know I was more aware of what I ate. Now I have to get some more exercise in. I have been really slacking on this lately. My workout routine is wearing a pedometer. I try to get in 10000 steps a day. On a really good day I have gotten as many as 20000 steps in a day.

Dave I will keep your grandson in my prayers.

I will be back later.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Kristina- have a great day today! I know it will feel so good for you to hand in that assignment. :)

Dave- thinking of all of you and keeping Caleb and everyone in my prayers.

Dona- great jib on the journaling! Wow! 10000+ steps is huge! My friend is a teacher and I should persuade her to wear a pedometer. I'd bet she gets a lit of steps in on school days. Have a great day today!

I'm off to meet pjstevens for a wog. Back later!

Happy Saturday BL friends! Today I am re-committing to posting here daily! I am still trying to catch up on reading the thread. I am up to 4/5 at 8:30 pm or page 57. Once I get totally caught up more, I can respond more to others. Had a FANTASTIC 2 day trip to London with my 2 girlfriends. I was not too self-concious about my limited wardrobe. I wore my sprakly scarf to try to be a little more stylish but they could not have cared less. The weather was HOT. Wish I'd worn capris but that would have limited my shoe options and I can not wear tennis shoes on the streets of London! Tracey, I thought of you because there were many shop windows decorated for the royal wedding and lots of souveniers for sale. I should have asked what you would like and I could send you some! They may have that stuff in the States as well? It was just a great great trip. Except for a stroll by Buck Palace on the way back to ou hotel, we did not do any sight-seeing. We just shopped, saw a play and had high tea at the Wollesley. The Queen was in residence BTW. Only 3 weeks now until the wedding.

Ummm....Wow.....I'm tired just thinking about all you have been doing! Life will FLY by between now and August 1....so you will have to work hard to keep up with the healthy eating and exercise. But I KNOW you can do it.

BTW.... recipe for the quinoa salad please???

Pamela, thanks for the encouragement. The dish was a recipe from Shape mag : Saute 1/2 onion in a little olive oil. Add 1 cup cooked quinoa, slivered almonds and chopped fresh parsley and cook through. They didn't give any specific measurements but you can figure it out;) When I made this a second time, I sauteed garlic with the onion and added a squeeze of lemon. Very quick and easy except soaking and cooking the Q took a little bit of time.
Here is another recipe for Quinoa http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Quinoa-and-Black-Beans/Detail.aspx

Shawn--have fun in London! :)

Did I mention we had a great time:cool1:

Hi Shawn! :wave2: so glad that you had a great time in Poland and now you are jet setting off to London -- wow! princess:

Your time in Europe is speeding past. I don't know how the real estate market is where you are moving but my long time realtor clients tell me that we are bouncing along the bottom and may be for a bit longer. You might find some good deals. :thumbsup2

Hi Lisa:yay: It's funny how close everything is over here. Going from Poland to London would be maybe like going from NYC to Orlando or maybe even less but it SOUNDS so exotic to go from country to country! The more places I go the more I add to my list to see:rotfl: I am running out of time and feeling a little desperate! I would like to think we are at the bottom of the market in my area back home. I am seeing homes online that were bought in the 2005-2008 era selling for quite a bit less today so there are good deals to be had. I just hope things don't continue to slide after we buy. Found one we love but it's near the town sump pump and that sounds negative to me. There's just something wrong with everything we see, it's so frustruating!

Hmmmm KAREN Thought I multi-quoted you too but it's not here. London is also one of my favorite cities. I think I like it better than Paris. I still haven't "figured out" Paris yet:cutie: I thought about you last week because I had 2 friends post on FB they were waiting for their son's results from Harvard & Duke but then they never posted again so I am guessing they didn't get accepted. :sad2: Of course, it's nearly impossible to get accepted at either of those schools so I am sure they will still get in other good schools elsewhere....

Hope you are all having a great Saturday. We picked up DS from his 10 day exchange trip to Spain last night and he was tired but had a great time. His host family let him play COD:scared1: I was a little surprised at that. He liked the older brother better than the boy his age (of course) but they did not speak any English at all so DS got a lot of practice.

DH fixed an incredible breakfast for us this morning. I don't know where the other 50 people were that needed to help us eat that meal! I had to give another little lecture to him about how we do NOT need that much food and/or those types of food. He turned it back around on me because I brought DS some KK doughnuts and Cadbury mini-eggs back from London!

Well, I need to update my sig to reflect that DS is now 14, need to PM my weight to Tracey - I'm up one pound so will probably wait until Monday- and need to send CC a PM. Then I will continue to get caught up on reading the thread. The only thing on my agenda today is a garden bday party for my friend that went with me to Poland. She is British and we got her a gag gift from London. It is a commemerative plate of Kate and Will. According to her it is really "lower class" to be into the royal family. Our real gift is a potted olive tree.

I did 45 minutes on the elliptical this morning and will try to be good the rest of the weekend with food and exercise. I was so bummed that Courtney got voted off BL this week !!!!!!!!!

Have a great Saturday losers:banana:

Shawnprincess:

PS Where is Tayrn?????

I was down 2.2 at my weigh in on Thursday, which made me happy. And have been doing my walking "homework" for my first strides program. This week I really have to journal what I am eating because I have been really slacking off lately.

Good morning everyone.

I started to post before, and lost it when I kept getting server too busy screen. :headache: I should have copied and pasted. I almost took the server too busy as a sign i should get off the computer and do some housework, but I stuck it out, and hopefully this will get posted and I'll remember what I wanted to say.

Hope all our journallers are doing well. I journalled every bite yesterday, and I know I did better because of it. I used 14 of my flex points, and when I went in the kitchen after dinner, I didn't want to use any more points, so I just had a glass of water. Hope everyone else is doing well with the journalling.

DaveI'll be praying for your precious Caleb and all of your family.

Pamela:cool1::dance3::cool1:Soooooo exxcited for you and your 3 pound weight loss!!!! Congratulations!!

Stinsamom- You look fabulous, and I loved seeing your pictures. I've been dreaming about both a disney cruise and discovery cove, so I really enjoyed seeing the pics. Congrats on booking your next cruise!!

Shawn- Glad you had a wonderful time in London, and ds in spain. What an amazing experience you all have had over there. My niece is going to france for a 2 week exchange program this week, and she is so excited. She'll be with the girl who came here last fall and they've kept in touch on facebook. I was amazed to meet this girl from france and she had taken english for 11 years, and she was 16. I'm sure your ds had some good practice with his spanish. Hope the rest of your time there goes smoothly I can imagine how hard it is to have to cut your time short.

Lisa- Hope you had a nice lunch with DH, and there was no side trips to the home depot.

Rose- I love that you and Mike run stride for stride. Sounds like you have such a wonderful, supportive relationship. You're such a cute couple, too. Hope all is ok at home.

Sue- Looking like a beautiful weekend here. Any fun plans? I think next weekend we're going to go down to lexington for some of the reenactments for Patriots day. This weekend I want to get or bikes fixed up a bit, and do some yard work. Hopefully we've seen the last of the snow.

Tracey- Hope dd's knee is feeling better today, and just a bruise.

Jeannette- THose dresses are beautiful. My sister was in a wedding years ago, and the bride had chosen the color, a blue, and all the bridesmaids chose dresses in different styles, but in the same color, and it was so nice because they all felt comfortable in the style that fit their body best. Hope all your plans are going smoothly.

Nancy -Ds is so adorable with the easter bunny. We only went once, and michael wouldn't go any where near that scary bunny. Great job getting him to sit in the lap. Hope your tummy is starting to feel better.

Lindsay- Good luck on your long run this weekend!! Hope you're enjoying every minute of your long weekend.

Cam- Nice job on the journalling. I totally need to write every little thing too or I forget, and then I've had way more than I ever would think. Enjoy your wog this morning.

Friday's qotd- I don't have set days for exercise, but have been committed to getting out and run/walking 3 days a week, at least, and will do that on my later work mornings which vary, and at least one weekend day. I try to do 3 miles twice, and a longer run the 3rd day. I also try to do something else active 1-2 more days, either tennis with ds, bike ride, and if weather is bad, and i'm motivated, wii fit. I jot down what i've done on a calendar, so I won't let multiple days go by with no exercise. I tend to do most of my running alone, but will occassionally go with a friend who is much faster than I am, and she encourages me to push myself a little harder.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!:)

Quick hello before the craziness of today begins!

Thanks everybody! Ash's knee is fine. Just a little bruised! I think she's excited to play soccer again today! Izzie is all ready to go! I have to take her, watch a few minutes of her game before heading to work. Hopefully the client is on time! Then I'll need to pick her and another person up to go for lunch and sign Ash up for her sewing class. Hoping to go see Hop at 4 today. Tomorrow we will probably have dinner out after the b'day party Izzie is going to.

Gotta tie Izzie's cleats and figure out which field she is playing on today!

TTFN :tigger:

Okay, so who wants to join a journaling challenge with me? Should we do it here? or set up a new thread where everyone can check in? I think, so far, Kathy is on board with me. I'm not sure if CC is game. Who else? Anyone? Bueller? ......... Bueller?

Ok Cam, I am in!!!! I'm determined to keep track (between the computer and my phone there is no excuse to not write record what I eat). So count me in my friend :goodvibes

QOTD for Friday April 8:
Tell us about your workout routine. Do you have a schedule of what you'll do each day? What is your favorite activity? Do you prefer to workout alone or with a friend? Have you searched out new activities to keep it diverse? Have you discovered any new activities that you have been surprised to find that you enjoy?

I've been so MIA on the boards lately (between school and work oh and home and life, lol), but since my best buddy is the coach this week, I have to get back to at least checking in daily :)

I go to school two mornings and two nights and work full time in between. So the mornings that I don't have school are my 'workout' mornings. I go to the Y cause I'm not disciplined to actually do something at home. I have a friend who meets me there some mornings, so it is nice to have someone to workout with and she's working on becoming a personal trainer so I get 'free' training, lol.

1. Removal of the tumors
2. The marriage of this young couple remains strong.
3. The we, the parents, can remain strong for the kids.
4. That Caleb grows to be a strong young man.

Thanks for your support teammates.

Dave

Dave, I'll definitely be praying for your precious grandson and your other requests.

QOTD for Saturday April 9:
This is a fun one for a Saturday. Use one or more DISBoards smilies to tell us something about you or about someone you know.
. :)

Hey, what a good idea Cam.

My name is Patty , this morning I got in my :car: and :drive: to meet up with my wonderful workout buddy and very good friend . We did our hour of :cool1: (couldn't find a wogger). Later on I hope to go out with hubby for a :moped: on his Harley (he'd be offended with the moped, lol).

The sun is shining on a Saturday :goodvibes I'm hoping to get some housework done this morning and I want to get outside this afternoon. I would love to move our camper closer to the house as I want to get it Spring cleaned and loaded for the season. It's still too early, but it's a new camper so I want to play with my toy:banana: I woke up several times during the night with a sharp headache. This morning I have a runny nose and some upper teeth hurting :confused3 I didn't even have the sniffles when I went to bed a midnight:headache: I'm hoping that it's just allergies as new job = no time to be sick. Plus we have no health insurance this month:guilty: Hopefully sudafed will be my friend and clear it up quickly:wizard:

The NASCAR race is on tonight so I'll work on a couple of lacrosse projects while I watch that with hubby:goodvibes Tomorrow and Monday are supposed to be warm and rainy so we need to enjoy today:thumbsup2

Have a fabulous Saturday friends:sunny::wave:

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Rose, how's the leg? :flower3: Are you going to try another run this week-end?

Lisa--Thanks for joining the journaling challenge. I’ll update the list here soon. And I’m with you – I’d love to not have another thread to keep up with. I have a feeling I am going to have my hands full for the foreseeable future. So, what are you training for next? Any good training plan will advocate for rest days, so I am glad you are getting them in. Have a great lunch with DH! (I hope it is something easily journaled – don’t you just abhor having to write down “ugly” meals in your journal? LOL!

::yes:: Yes the journaling yesterday was ugly after the lunch was entered -- and the adult beverages. But we had a great time and I'm pretty sure it is the first time that we've been out to eat with just the two of us this year. Need to work on that! :lovestruc But my faithful journalling also showed me that I have lots of places to work on in the eating department. Thankfully, today is another day! :goodvibes

I have a 5 mile race next Sunday and then a local half on Memorial Day week-end. Still looking for a fall race to add to the schedule. :sunny:

Nancy, that Easter Bunny was a bit scary looking. ;) Sounds like you had a good day in spite of the challenges. Hope that you are feeling a bit better. :flower3:

Lindsay, enjoy your long run this week-end! :cheer2:

Jeanette, those bridesmaid dresses are lovely. I really love the color. Perfect for a fall wedding. Are you using that venue with the cool lighting? They can probably do some really neat stuff with that. That's one of the good things about being together again -- easier to keep up on the wedding plans! :bride:

Eva, I love your attitude about meal to meal! :thumbsup2

Stinasmom, there has been alot of talk about sailing out of Seattle in our house, too. I may need to get some tips from you about the bring your own adult beverage thing! ;)

Deb, how is the new job? :goodvibes

Disney1990, a loss, even a small one is always a winner in my book. :thumbsup2

Disneywedding2010 enjoy your week-end after your busy week! :thumbsup2

Enjoy your week-end, donac, only one more week until spring break! :yay:

Hi Lisa:yay: It's funny how close everything is over here. Going from Poland to London would be maybe like going from NYC to Orlando or maybe even less but it SOUNDS so exotic to go from country to country! The more places I go the more I add to my list to see:rotfl: I am running out of time and feeling a little desperate! I would like to think we are at the bottom of the market in my area back home. I am seeing homes online that were bought in the 2005-2008 era selling for quite a bit less today so there are good deals to be had. I just hope things don't continue to slide after we buy. The perfect house is out there somewhere -- and with so many choices you will find it. I know that it is hard when you are so far away.

I was down 2.2 at my weigh in on Thursday, which made me happy. And have been doing my walking "homework" for my first strides program. This week I really have to journal what I am eating because I have been really slacking off lately.

Woo hoo, nice loss! :woohoo:

Hope all our journallers are doing well. I journalled every bite yesterday, and I know I did better because of it. I used 14 of my flex points, and when I went in the kitchen after dinner, I didn't want to use any more points, so I just had a glass of water. Hope everyone else is doing well with the journalling.

Nice job, Kathy! :thumbsup2 I think that faithful journalling is just enough to help you think a bit more make that right decision! :goodvibes

We did have a nice lunch and no Home Depot -- we have a deck to build this spring and can't afford any "extra" projects on top of that. :rotfl:

Hi Patricia! :wave2: It makes me tired just reading all that you do! :flower3:

I'll be back later to answer the QOTD -- I'm probably pushing it with the smilie police as it is.

UPDATED JOURNAL CHALLENGE PARTICIPANT LIST

Journal Challenge participants:

Dona (donac)
Cam (keenercam)
Kathy (mikamah)
CC (cclovesdis)
Lisa (lisah0711)
Pamela (pjilla)
Karen (RemembertheMagic98)
Jeannette (Cupcaker)

Have I missed anyone? How did everyone do yesterday? I journaled every bite, even the 5 peanuts I ate. LOL! I must confess that having nearly the same breakfast every morning makes it a bit easier to journal - sometimes I can't remember what I ate an hour ago and if I don't journal it right away at least I know what was for breakfast. ;)

Thanks for running this Cam! I journaled everything yesterday. I actually didn't eat enough yesterday. :confused3 I also need to add another serving or 2 of veggies into my day.

:hug:Dave. Caleb and his/your family will definitely be in my prayers.

P: Congrats on your 3 lbs! You had a great week! :cool1:

I need to do some type of exercise today. My schedule has been so busy that I didn't make it to the gym at all this week. I am trying to increase my daily steps as well. I'm hoping to try C25K today-outside. I may just end up walking, but 30 minutes of walking outside would be a huge accomplishment for me, so I'll take it. Hoping for an OP day!
