Big Winter Storm coming . . .

i don't ski. i don't do anything in the winter, actually. it's always too cold. hey i didn't ASK to be born here! lol. that's why i said, i want to try and go south eventually.

we get the worst snow. we get regular snow AND lake effect snow, it's horrible.

You know, if you were born there, you should ski! I used to live in Rochester, so I know about the weather there... However, you don't have any mountains to ski on, which explains why, if you were born there you never learned to ski. Now I am too old to ski, so I live vicariously through my kids, they have the time of their lives out there, cold and all... we have hand warmers, foot warmers, face guards, every type of imaginable piece of material to layer up with... and I think we will use it all tomorrow as the high is supposed to be 20 LOL... and that is NOT on the top of the mountain...

I even wore Panther purple to church last Sunday after the game. Tomorrow I will be wearing purple to the state drill team competition. I just need to find someone who can listen or watch the game for me and text me the scores.

It really sucks being us. :headache:

I'm in Northern Minnesota... earlier they were saying 8-12 inches but then tonight they said possibly 12-16 inches. the snow will start to fall around lunchtime and not quit until sunday afternoon.

I like a good snowstorm as much as anyone, but this couldn't come at a worse time - my son's 11th birthday party is tomorrow, 5 PM!!! :scared1:

DD has a basketball tournament today and tomorrow, but it is a home tournament so we aren't too worried. Happy Birthday to your DS, is his birthday today? So is mine!

I will take our foot of snow over a couple inches of ice any day though--hang in their Iowa--yuck! The Twin Cities had a horrible ice storm in 1996, several inches of ice everywhere, it didn't melt until May :scared1: . We were living in South Dakota that year and we had 60's all January :lmao: .

The storm is here!! Now we are just waiting to see if the trip to DM for the drill team has been cancelled.

We are about 60 miles straight West of the Twin Cities and so far it isn't doing anything outside. Although on radar it looks like it could start any minute.
YUCK! I really hate snow. Pretty much everyone has called and cancelled about coming over here tomorrow for my DS's celebration :( Oh well, I do understand I just hate the fact that it had to snow THIS weekend

I still need to go out and buy groceries. I think I will take off in a few minutes before the snow starts flying. Thank Goodness for 24 hour grocery stores ;)

It is going West and North of us. I live about 50 miles west of Lake michigan in WI. I swear Lake Michigan acts like a big baby blanket on the west side of the Lake. We hardly get any snow, unless it comes from the East which is rare.

Stay safe everyone else.

We are all ice this morning in Creston. The road in front of my house is completely covered. I haven't seen any snow yet. You can hear the trees cracking outside!

In eastern Iowa the roads are 100% ice covered as are the windows on the east side of the house. We have a heavy patch of rain just west of us heading our way. Oh boy.

I guess we are sending it your way! We were without power for a little while this morning. We have tree branches all over the yard.

Our trip to DM got cancelled. The kids are really bummed they don't get to compete.

I'm in South East Wisconsin where we have heard everything from 1" - 7". Also mention of ice but it seems they are unsure of what will happen as the day goes on. Thinking of all of you :goodvibes:

We're about 30 miles SW of Chicago and it's snowing here with just enough accumulation to cover the sidewalk and the street.

Here in South Central WI it is snowing quite heavily now. :cold:
Fireplace is on and we have our stockpile of milk, bread, tp and batteries.
Kind of pretty right now...until the ice starts.

I found this for our area

A strong and very complex winter storm will move through the Great Lakes region this weekend. Initially the atmosphere across southern Wisconsin will be cold enough to keep any advancing precipitation in the form of snow. However, as the low moves northeast through the area, a tongue of warm and moist air will overtake the colder surface air, resulting in a transition from snow to sleet to freezing rain this afternoon and evening.

Snow will spread into southwest Wisconsin later this morning and across the rest of southern Wisconsin during the afternoon. The snow will transition to sleet and then freezing rain during the afternoon and evening. Snow and sleet accumulations will range from 1 to 3 inches near the Illinois border to 3 to 6 inches along and north of a line from the Madison to Milwaukee, with slightly less amounts along the Lake Michigan shoreline due to warmer lake temperatures.

Ice accumulations of one tenth to four tenths of an inch are expected with isolated higher amounts. In addition...blustery southeast winds of 15 to 30 knots are expected with a few gusts to 40 mph. The combination of glazing and strong winds will likely cause sporadic tree and power line damage leading to power outages.

The freezing rain will diminish to light freezing drizzle and drizzle later tonight as temperatures warm to near or above freezing.

Now is the time to prepare for the first major winter storm of the season. Consider postponing or revising travel plans for this afternoon and tonight. All persons shoveling snow will also want to use extra caution because the combination of wet snow, sleet, and additional liquid in the form of freezing rain will cause a shovel’s worth of snow to be very heavy. All interests are urged to keep up with the forecast as this winter storm may severely impact the region.

After I made my final ice storm emergency kit run this morning, DH and I officially have no place we need to go to. We put up the tree this morning and i will make my awesome meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and fresh green beans with real bacon and a slight hint of bacon "drippings" (grease). . Is it obvious DH is a born Southern boy? Everyone stay safe!
