big wimps 1st trip to universal!

so i love disney-never felt the urge to visit universal,but dh really wants to go.

as the title suggests,my ds (15) and i not thrill seekers at all-pirates is kind of my limit!

therefore,my proposed rides are-
despicable me, shrek 4d, terminator2 3d, simpsons, men in black, e.t., spiderman, seuss trolley and harry potter fj.

what are your thoughts? what's the best order/time to visit(we're staying at pofq,middle aug 2013.)

am i missing anything or are any choices too scary?!

The only rides you SHOULDN'T do are at IOA Hulk, Dr. Doom, Dudley Do-Right, Forbidden Journey is pretty intense but you should do it, Dragon Challenge

at USF: Rip Ride Rockit, Mummy (you really should be able to do mummy too)

Terminator may be open by then. You should do it too.

so don't/won't do anything which constitutes a "big thrill"

how intense is hpfj? may just sit that one out then?

If you suffer with vertigo, then FJ is a definite no no. However, ask to take the castle tour instead. You can walk through Hogwarts in a special line without riding.

You should walk through the queue with them. It is amazing. Then you just take the chicken exit. Lots of people do it.

Since you mention vertigo/dizziness, note that Cat in the Hat and Men in Black both use ride vehicles that spin around (with quite a bit of speed) once in a while during the ride. For Despicable Me and Shrek most of the seats bounce around during the movie, but there are non-moving seats in the front row of each. The Simpsons ride bounces around a lot and I don't think there is a non-moving version. The Terminator 3-D movie is intense (action wise) but the seats don't make any sudden movements (spoiler--they just sink a little at two points in the ride).
Also remember there are quite a few live shows at the Studios. While Barney might only seem like something for the very, very young--the park bench seating at the rear of the theatre (combined with the park setting and simple songs) makes for a great rest break.

It sure is. Like the previous poster mentioned, some of the rides do spin you a bit. I make sure I take meclazine every morning before heading to the parks because a few of the rides will do me in.

Disaster might be okay for you. It's 95% show, with only the ride being at the end, where you board a subway train and then experience an earthquake. Lots of bumping, some intense effects, but they don't last too long. The end of the ride makes it worth it, though.

Also, you can skip out of ANY ride if you're not sure. Just tell the TM that asks you "how many?" that you need to bail out/chicken exit. They'll direct you down the proper path.

Don't do Harry Potter if you suffer from vertigo/dizziness. I thought I was going to get sick on it. Walking through to get on the ride is very interesting. You could always go through like you were going to get on the ride and right before, go into the parent switch area. That way you could experience the castle and not have to ride the ride.

My husband has serious issues with motion sickness and the one ride that really got to him was The Simpsons.

I absolutely adored that ride but, my husband was sick for about an hour after we rode it. I think it is pretty intense and feels "real". The theming isn't scary ofcouse.. but, its a simulated rollercoaster in "Simpson" world and it sure feels like you are actually in the cartoon riding the coaster.

We just got back from our first Universal visit and I was very impressed with their rides. Forbidden Journey is just amazing.. the best ride I have ever been on. You really should try to ride it at least once.. my husband did and didn't regret it but, he also didn't ride it twice... my sons and I rode it 4 more times. Universal has mastered the motion simulator, IMO and Disney has nothing that comes close to what Universal has in this area... even Star Tours is nothing compared to The Simpsons or Despicable Me.

If you are normally a Disney person you should be aware that Universal is much more intense. While Disney is King when it comes to the dark animatronic rides... Universal is King with the motion simulator.. IMO.

Even their benign rides like Cat in the Hat and Men in Black spin fast on occasion during the ride as others have stated in this thread. The only rides I think you should be perfectly fine on are Shrek 4D and Terminator, Disaster, Twister. Jurassic Park is pretty easy going but, there is the big drop at the end. Oh.. you should be good in ET... which is a ride I actually really loved, very sweet and child like but, super cool... flying over the city and the moon is magical.

I don't have a problem with motion sickness even on choppy seas (in a kayak for 8 hrs) but HPFJ got me. It was the first ride we did at Universal and I was nauseous all day. Although I rode the rest of the big rides (hulk, dueling dragons...) I was hating life. We're going back again and I'm seriously contemplating skipping them all and just sitting around HP world all day. I'm not sure if a cold made me susceptible to vertigo but I'm not really willing to try again.

I find Simpsons fine in the front row. It is also one of those rides that you can just close your eyes or look to the side and you'll be fine if you and the screen aren't getting along.

No matter what, I still take a less drowsy dramamine, just in case.

I LOVE insane rides!!! Hulk Coaster, Dueling Dragons, Dr. Doom's Freefall, etc... I am a coaster nut, the crazier the better. If a ride has warnings on it, I'm like YEAH!!! Lol... That being said, the Simpson's ride made my sick to my stomach... I was bummed because I loved the Back to the Future ride that was there before. Just a little warning to maybe be careful of Simpson's too.
