Big upgrades?!

My trip is Oct 16-21. Len Testa said in the Touring Plans podcast that they are doing it because the value resorts/cheaper rooms are all full and so they are moving people who have already committed to their vacation and giving them an upgrade while freeing up the cheaper rooms at the value resorts for more people to book.
Sneaky! so they are hitting a price point issue but this is a cheaper solution for the moment than a normal sale…

Would any of you mind sharing the text of the e-mail you got and your dates if you were booked at Music? I only just saw that they sent me one two days ago regarding a reservation for Music from late September to early October for a standard room. I'm hesitant to call because I don't want to be on hold for hours on an overseas call. This is what they sent: "We are excited that you are planning to visit us at the Walt Disney World® Resort and we would like to speak with you regarding your upcoming reservation at Disney's All Star Music Resort." along with a phone number.

Would you mind sharing a link to that podcast? The most recent one I can find is from November 2019. 🤷‍♀️

I got a phone call last night saying they need to talk to me about my reservation. I called back right at 8am today and was told they are moving some people with reservations between Sept 16 and January 1st. I was originally booked at Music but actually changed it to Movies on Saturday, when I saw a room open up.

So did they move you? The e-mail I got said that specific number doesn't open until 9am EST so I haven't called yet.

I'm on hold now while they're processing the upgrade. We're getting CBR Standard 5th sleeper instead of a standard room at Music.

Edit: btw, the CM told me it was due to "magical system enhancements" (i.e. we overbooked?) and as others have mentioned for dates from Sept 16 to Jan 1. This was the first time ever we've been moved so I don't know how this usually goes, but the CM said they had already put a room on hold at CBR so it did not sound like they checked right then and there what was available. It sounded like they had preassigned everyone to another room already. I don't know what happens if you refuse this. Maybe they have multiple options on hold?

I have been upgraded twice. In 2011, I booked for Pop, and I got an email upgrading to a 2 bedroom villa in OKW. Huge upgrade. In 2020, I booked for Riverside and was upgraded to a 2 bedroom villa at Riviera, it was amazing. And as a bonus, they gave me a 10 additional fast passes and $500 gift card. As much as I love Riverside, the upgrade and extras were more than I could have imagined. Lucky lucky

From a regular room at Music and then Movies? Nice :) and you got your Skyliner resort!

Yes, I'm excited! Last time I was at Disney it was days from opening, lol.

It's just 3 of us, we really don't need a family suite, but the extra bathroom will be handy in the morning for sure!

Yeah, I was told they carefully select who to upgrade based on dates, length of stay and party size. I'm not sure why they put just two of us in a 5th sleeper room, when I'm sure others are trying to get a 5th sleeper but can't. But we loved AoA so it's a nice upgrade!

Does that mean already paid in full?

Yes, they went from All Star Caribbean Beach. I already tried calling. Even though our reservations were linked in my MDE account, they weren’t I. Theirs so we are out of luck. It really complicates our vacation now:(

Just FYI for the future (not sure if it will help now), when you're traveling with someone it helps to call in and ask for the reservations to be assigned a "traveling with" number. That way the assignors will know that reservation zz is traveling with reservation bb and try to assign rooms together.

I would try talking to guest services though and see how/if they can help you.

I think you ought to call guest services and explain that your families are traveling together.

Not the first I've seen of an all star upgrade to CB.

Has anyone ever been upgraded to club level at the GF? I booked a lagoon view outer building for Oct 3-9.

May of 2019 I booked a last minute weekend at GF in a regular garden view room.
Upon check in we got main building club level with theme park view. It was the best upgrade ever!

It has happened but it is incredibly rare. The upgrades we’re seeing right now are supposedly to free up more value rooms for booking as only value bookings are being upgraded.

(With GF that would be quite the upgrade right now seeing as the outer building club level is not open and has no scheduled opening date. Only RPC is scheduled to open.)

We ve gotten upgraded from POR to AKL years back, and several times to Savannah room at both AKL and Kidani. We were also upgraded to a business suite at Coronado … tho we loved the room and perks we did not like the resort. We ve been pretty lucky over the years. Maybe because we’ve stayed on prop soooooo many times.
