Big Thunder Ranch BBQ Questions

Living in the BBQ capital of the world (Kansas City) I can tell you that it is very sub-standard food...when judged against the best.

However, it's a nice setting and decent food for a theme park.
I don't really like my food being served in a metal pale....I'm not a farm animal.

My only advice is make sure you mention your reservation if there is any kind of line up!

When I went, DH had made a reservation that morning, and I arrived first. I asked if I could check in before he arrived and she said no problem, and I should, because there was a 45 minute wait. I then mentioned that DH had called that morning to make a reservation, and that changed things! We still ended up waiting a little, but no more than 15 minutes.

Actually, serving the food in a metal pail is from the way cowboys used to cook on the range. They had a big metal pot that hung over the fire that they would cook their beans in, the pail is from that. I like the red checked tablecloths, cheap plastic red bowls and yes, the pails the meat come in. lol I guess you could say I'm a fan of the BBQ. lol :)

I have a question about the pricing. The Disboard menu says $21.99/$24.99 for adults (lunch/dinner) and $9.99 for kids. The official Disney site gives a price range of $15 through $35.99 per person. What's the source of the difference? Has there been a recent price change, or does the Disney site figure in drinks/dessert? Also, what age would be the cutoff for the kids' price?

We were just there for dinner on Thursday and it was $24.99/person plus something for drinks, I do not remember exactly how much.

We love the BBQ. I have not had the meat since I am vegetarian, but their veggie option is very tasty and I look forward to it. And I enjoy the vinegar based coleslaw over salad dressing coleslaw. :)

Disney considers kids ages 10 and above to be adults to the BBQ for adults is anyone 10 and up, 3-9 are kids, 2 and under are free. :)

When the BBQ first started, it was considered a character meal, and so had character meal prices. They've changed the venue a bit, and it's no longer considered character dining.

Oh, I get it... same cut-off as the tickets. Makes sense. Unfortunately, when suggesting all-you-can-eat BBQ to the husband, he vetoed it, since he figures the kids are too young to make it worthwhile and that we should use grab-and-go food options to maximize our time for rides... :sad2: So, no Big Thunder Ranch meat feast for me this year... ah, the things we do for love...

I guess I'll instead live vicariously through the photos posted on this board...

My kids definitely don't eat enough to make the BBQ worthwhile, but they are old enough that I can give them some cash and they can get themselves something they want to eat while DBF and I go to the BBQ. :)
