I made a lunch reservation for our trip. It will be myself, my husband, and our son who will be almost 17 months old at the time. I just made the reservation for 2 people. Anyone know if that is okay or if I need to change it to 3 people?

On allears it shows a price for adults and kids ages 3+. Will my son be free?

If I need to cancel, do I just call some general reservation phone number or something? When I made the reservation online, it didn't really give me any information or a phone number or anything.

Technically, you need to include everyone in your ADRs. The general reasoning is that everyone counts towards the fire code capacity and they also count towards table assignments (e.g., even if he's an toddler, he still needs to be placed somewhere). I would call and add him to your reservation just to be safe.

Yes, children under three are "free" at any buffet/AYCTE locations.

Has the reservation shown up on your Disneyland account? I've always been able to cancel reservations online. Otherwise, I would call Disneyland Dining ((714) 781-DINE) if you need to cancel the reservation. Just remember, Disneyland has a no show/late cancellation penalty (you must cancel the day before to avoid the penalty).

Confirmed on above. You need to tell them that there's 3. They won't count the infant towards the check, though. And by the way, that's my fave. I could eat there every week and not get tired of it.

Hmm...I asked the Disneyland account on Twitter and they said I would be okay with not adding my son to the reservation. They said just to let them know when we check in.

Is there a fire code when it's an outdoor place like that? It's the slow season (mid-February) and I'm guessing it won't be super crowded at lunch anyway.

I would seriously not worry about Big Thunder BBQ reservation technicalities ever & especially not at off times. Fire code? During slow season? Breathe! If it was Blue Bayou you would want your ducks in line but in this case I'd be fine with the Twitter answer.

I generally agree that it's unlikely that there will be any issues with just adding your son at check-in, but by the same token, it's not that hard to add him now and know for sure everything will be okay. It's not like DLR is WDW, where adding guests is very difficult for a fair number of ADRs. In terms of the fire code, I assume there is one because it does have a fence around the seating area. Maybe not, but I'd be surprised.

In truth, I think the bigger unknown that you're facing is the weather. The BBQ closes if it's raining, which is not uncommon in February.

Easier to just add him and request a high chair now. The BTRBBQ is a family favorite of ours!

Have a magical time!

If it closes due to rain, I assume they won't be charging me $10 a person, right?

I've read that you'll get an email or call letting you know your reservation has been cancelled. You should not be charged the penalty because Disney cancelled the reservation, not you.

That's weird. They've always told me to just add the person. And as far as lunch goes at Big Thunder BBQ, I was surprised on our last trip. A year ago on a Friday at noon, we were seated and the place was half full. This year on a Friday at noon, we got the last empty table. I'm guessing I'm talking this place up way too much and everyone arrived the same day as me. ;)

You really need to add your child. It matters where they place you if you have a high chair. They may need to put you in a corner, or at the bbq, they need o put your child at the end. Or, like my child, she needs her own seat because she uses a booster chair.

Weird. Was it December both times?

I am hoping it's not too crowded. That way if we want to just 'walk up' for dessert one day, we can. :)

Well, I am just going by what their social media person told me.

When I made the reservation, it asked how many people. But I don't recall it asking for their ages or what type of chair they would need.

Okay, I just went to modify and there is a place to enter my party member's names and ages. Not sure if I should select infant or age 2 though. He will be almost 17 months old. I'm also not sure if that will even change the amount in my party or not.

It really varies...there is no way to know in advance if the BBQ is going to no wait or long wait or no walk-ups. I've been there with 11 people and gotten a walk-up with a 30 minute wait and I've been there with 3 people and waited 45 minutes with a reservation. It's really kind of hit-or-miss...

If you do go...don't forget to ask for a recipe flyer! It has a recipe for the rub they use along with a few other things. I don't think it has quite the same taste, but it's a pretty good rub (I've used it).

I would probably go with 2 because he's closer to that than an infant (I think); I'm trying to remember, but I think the kids I've traveled with were able to sit up and use a high chair by 17 months.

Yeah, he eats adult food (cut into tiny pieces) so I was leaning toward 2 as well.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong... But if he is two he'll be charged as such, but since he's a 17 month old, I'd click infant and then he eats off your plate for free.

Well, it gave me a place to add the names and ages of my party. So I added my husband's name/age and then my son's. But it still just says "2 adults" for the reservation.

I'm really not going to stress about it. I'm sure it will be fine.

Totally weird they give you the choice of infant or 2 year old. If you tried, you tried. It's up to them now! I don't find dealing with dinner reservations easy.
