This inspired me to start this thread. :)

How many of you have been in natural disasters?

Earthquakes?
Tornadoes?
Hurricanes?
Anything else you could throw into this catagory!

2 tornadoes and 1 earthquake here.

One of the tornadoes was at my friends house. His fence ended up in someone elses backyard! A couple of windows broken, but other than that, not too bad.

Second one was on my way to my grandmothers house. Back then, my parents owned a van. Ever seen a van hot 120? lol My dad slammed on the gas and that thing took off like a bat outta hell!

Earthquake was in California. I think it was near hollywood, but am not for sure. I do remember exactly what happened though! The TV started moving, the whole place shook like some giant person was jumping in the hallway. More fun than could be scarry! lol

Share your experiences please :D Eager to learn about them!

Only one tornado ... and living in Mississippi I guess thats pretty good. It was when our son was small probably 3 or 4 and we were living in an upstairs apartment. Well the weather had gotten pretty bad but we were supposed to go to my parents for supper. We got outside and in the car and the rain was heavy, it was dark and the wind was awful. As we pulled out of the parking lot, right behind our apartment in a field was a tornado. It wasn't a very big one at all. Probably an F-1 which is the smallest but it still scared the beejeebees out of me....LOL!

We are supposed to get bad weather this afternoon and tonight as well. Has the storm passed you yet?

Oh wait!! We did go through a Tropical Storm not this September but last September on the way to Disney. You couldn't even see the towns because the lights were out. The rain and wind were pretty bad and it got a little scary at times.

Hasn't passed me yet, hoping it doesn't hit for a little while longer, because I gotta pick up my little sister at school, hehe

Talking about tropical storms! Reminded me of this one time. We got to stay an extra few days at Disney World because of one. Some nice people that my mom started to talk to for some reason told them that there was one heading for the beach we were going to visit on our way home.(sandy beach or shell beach, something like that)

We got lucky there!

Denton County checking in here. The storm is just now hitting us. They just issued the tornado warning. And the one thing I hate about my satillite...the signal has gone out so I can't see what David Finfrock is saying!!! I've got the radio on, but if I lose power I'm in big trouble b/c the batteries for it are dead. I just I would just have to go to my laptop for help if that happens.

I've been in three or four tornados and they scare the crap out of me. It started when I was about 6 or 7. A tornado was headed our way and we had to go out to the storm cellar (man, I miss my old house...I wish I had one here) and my dad wouldn't go with us. He stayed in the house watching tv and wouldn't budge and I was convinced he was going to die. Ever since then, I've been deathly afraid of storms like this.

I just looked at our weather and what is hitting you guys now will be hitting us later tonight.

PA PLEASE KEEP CHECKING IN!!!!!!! Now that I know you are under a warning I will worry!!!

It's okay now. They say the rotation was too weak and it's all breaking apart. Officially we're still under a warning, but with the couple of minutes of David Finfrock that I just got back I just found out that he's not really concerned at all about it. This is one thing I'm hoping the weatherman is right about because the wind is pretty strong out there and the rain is pounding down really hard. I'll check in later when this all clears out though.

I'm from CA - land of the earthquakes. I have been through too numerous a number to count. But the one that obviously sticks out above all the rest was October 17, 1989 - the Loma Prieta Earthquake. It was quite a ride - I didn't realize how bad it was until we tried to drive home and turned on the car radio. The scary part was seeing days worth of footage on TV about the fires, damage, collapsed freeways and waiting for aftershocks.

Another person here who lived through the Loma Prieta Quake of 89. It was *very* scary. I wasn't scared so much for my safety during the quake (I was at work in a mall)- I stood in the doorway and rode it out and was fine. I was 17 and the only person in the store at the time. I saw people running and screaming, acting crazy. I waited for the mall manager to come and tell me to close the store and go home. When I exited the mall, I saw that huge chunks of concrete had fallen off the building- those people running around like crazy instead of ducking and covering could have been seriously hurt. :( The aftershocks were quite scary cause you never know if it's just a little one or another big one til it's over.

Hurricanes on the coast. I was in NC for two huricanes. we were lucky and had minor water damage. Some people had beach homes that suffered a lot of damage. Thats one thing that I hate about the coast.

Although beach combing for weeks after the storm was like nothing I've ever seen before. The beaches were littered with seashells, large starfish, and the tide kept bringing in sea hares. It was so strange!:D

I asked this question a couple of years ago and got some interesting responses!!:D

We've had our share of tornadoes go through here but luckily not directly at my house. Knock on wood!!!!:p

yes Maine does get hit once in a while.........we have had some big hurricanes and northeasters that can kill alot of people
Our ice storm of 98 was horrible.......we had power out in all the state and it lasted up to three weeks in some areas.....we had no power for a week......no heat or electric.......we did have water.......we were able to cook on top of our gas stove but not in the oven........we wore winter clothes in the house and had to put all the blankets under us on our water bed......and a few on top of us with clothes on.......we had five other families coming to stay with us........best part of the storm was people helping others........electric companies from all the way down to florida.......they froze but were fine

Nooooooo! Don't send it to us, too! DH just called and said Oklahoma is under a tornado warning - wonderful. I'm so glad we're moving closer to the tornados.

Natural disasters, a couple hurricanes. We moved to Mississippi a week after the really bad tornados in November 2002, and have had a couple close calls since then.

I told you that you were going to love Oklahoma...;)

Where your DH is at is probably getting the storms that moved out of Texas just about now. They're supposed to be here in the next couple of hours.

Just remember when you get here...the weathermen here love to get a scoop on things. They always over predict the first few spring storms. While it's a little balmy (around 70), it's not hot enough to get really serious weather. I'm not saying ignore them, but I don't get too excited this early in the year.

It's done nothing but rain for 24 hours. We had no electricity for several hours last night and our only road out is flooded...so, I'm trapped like a rat. A lot more rain is expected so it could be a long next couple of days!

KK I thought you were going to Washington State, why did I think that????

Your going to Oklahoma?? Well one good thing, the few times I have been to Oklahoma there were alway WONDERFUL SHOPPING PLACES....LOL! Something Mississippi doesn't have anywhere in the state! Wait, what DOES Mississippi have???? NOTHING!!!!!!!

Congratulations again on GETTING OUT OF HELL....LOL!

We had an earthquake here in Mid Michigan about 20 years ago. No damage, no injuries.

Other than that, no natural disasters :)

Responding from an office on the west side of the tallest building in Dallas. I've worked in this building for many years and I don't recall seeing my windows move and sway a much as they did about 30 minutes ago. When the worst was almost over, Building Security came on to tell us there was an emergency weather situation and to move away from the windows...a bit late! But I can see blue along the horizon.

I grew up in a tornado prone area...but we had basements. North Texas has lots of bad weather - but no basements!

Ahhhhhhhhhh that wasn't a storm....:o

I remember the nasty storm in Fort Worth about 10 years back. Hail the size of grapefruits! Now THAT was a storm to make ya go #2 in your britches. :hyper:

I'm sorry but that made me LOL! I can imagine how scary it must have been though.
