I have read all the horrible reviews of Big River. Is it really that bad? I wanted somewhere nice to eat on the boardwalk one evening. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't it have outdoor or patio seating on the boardwalk. Being able to eat outside and enjoy the atmosphere of the boardwalk is what really appeals to me. Is the food really that bad?

Our friends ate there last year and liked it. It's on 'the list' for this year.

It is a nice place....loved the hummus we had and the beer was delicious. Can't believe it gets bad reviews, we had a really great evening there.

We have eaten there many times and have never had a bad experience. The food, service and beer are all really good. There is outdoor seating, but you cannot see Illuminations from the tables. That's probably the only con I have for them.

We wandered in after realizing the wee one wasn't going to make it thru to our ADR at PTC and we were really pleased. We were able to get a quick table, food was quite good [one of the better meals of the trip] and "calm" enough to help de-stimulate the 2 year old....We had the Mahi Oscar and both liked it. Give it a try, you may like it. If not, its still just a meal!

We ate there last aug, and it sucked. The food had no taste at all. Just terrible. Don't bother! Spend a little more and go across the lake to the yachtsman. Its marvelous!;)

I realize that I am a newbie on the boards and take it for what it is worth but I agree with the previous poster. We were fortunate enough when we checked in last year to be upgrade at the BC and were given the DP. Not having used it before we figured we would try it out at this restaurant.
We did walk right in and were sat immediately. From there is was down hill... while the view was nice, right by the window to watch people stroll by,the food was awful. We were also surprised that the bill would have been $107.00.It was 2 adults DS10 and DS1. Will not be going back.

Big River Grill is not great, but I don't think it deserves some of the reviews it gets here. If you like the menu, and want to sit outside, give it a try.

just got back from our trip may9th . had dinner there it was a first for this location. sat outside we loved the outdoor patio. the food was good but the service was very very slow but thats okay as it was nice just sitting and enjoying the great view!

There's a reason for all the horrible reviews. Sure you may have a good experience there, but the odds aren't in your favor. Lots of other good places nearby (try ESPN) with higher standards.

We have eaten there a lot, and have always enjoyed the food. We like to stop in, taste the seasonal beer or enjoy an old favorite and have a bit of food with it.

You are right, they have seating outside. On a nice day/evening it is a great place to sit and people watch.

We ate at both ESPN and Big River Grille last August. The food at Big River Grille was surprisingly good. We ate lunch there, but many of the same offerings were on the dinner menu. The service was just o.k. I thought their cheese soup was better than at Le Cellier! Now it is overpriced and the floor was dirty when we went, but I wouldn't avoid this restaurant. Go ahead and give it a try.

Now ESPN was a different story. The worst service I can recall at a Disney restaurant. Again we ate at lunch, and toward the end of the lunch window, so staffing wasn't high...but we were practically the only diners in the place! And they still couldn't refill the sodas or even bring the final check without us having to track down the waiter ourselves. The food was decent, though. Similar to a TGI Fridays or similar chain.

We ate there a few weeks ago (4 adults and really enjoyed it). The food wasn't fabulous, but decent. Good beer and rink selection and great location. We ate out on the patio and had a blast. I plan to go back mext time we go to Disney.

I had also considered ESPN but I imagine it being more of a bar type restaurant and that's not really what we want. I am nervous to give Big River a try. However, none of us in the group are really picky eaters so maybe I am worrying for nothing. And we already have yachtsman booked for another night. This night in particular I wanted to stroll the boardwalk and hopefully dine at a decent restaurant and see what all the boardwalk has to offer. I know we don't want Flying Fish and Spoodles is closing...

We really like Big River.
Definately give it a try. Save room for dessert. The chocolate cake and cheesecake are fantastic.
I think people who don't like it are expecting it to be a disney style.
It's not, it's kind of like a casual formal place. Not's not formal that you feel out of place but if your in shorts and a decent shirt you still feel comfortable.
As for the menu, I have no complaints. I had the steak and it was good.
I've definately had worse at other disney resturants.
Plus it's nice to either sit outside or just look out and enjoy the view of the boardwalk.

i tried to make ADRs for Big River but i couldn't, does anyone know if i could make reservations directly through them or if its just a walk up kind of place, im just concerned about trying to get in there in august with the amount of people, wait time would be terrible! :dogdance:

I don't think it is as good as the two here in chattanooga, and I don't think they are very good. If you've been to any of the big rivers or rock bottoms, you pretty much know what it is. It isn't that bad really - it is mostly harmless.
