Big Lots Livingroom Furniture - Does it hold up?

We desperately need to replace our family room furniture. We have two dogs and when they were puppies last year, they chewed some holes in our current furniture. I covered the holes until now. We needed to replace the furniture anyways and now that the dogs are 19 months old, we "hope" they are done chewing furniture.

With that being said, I don't want to spend a fortune on furniture in the event they do chew on it. I've looked high & low on Craig's list for some nice used furniture but everything I see is double ick!

If you've purchased the Chicksaw line of furniture at Big Lots, how has it held up? Does it show wear quickly? I know for the price I wouldn't expect more than a couple of years out of it, but I want to make sure the dogs will behave before buying a nice leather set.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would have to say no. We bought two pieces from there and it caved in in no time. Save up some money and buy the good stuff. I am trying to save up now for new stuff.

same here. Our couch is only 4 years old and has already broken.

Around here Big Lots furniture is from Value City--IMHO totally not worth it, save up and get some better furniture that will hold up for 10+ years.

Our basement couch and coffee table are from BLs, and they've held up really well. I believe they were a better brand name and then resold at BL's though...

My sister's living room furniture was from there. It was terrible. Poor construction and material that fell apart. Almost like dry rot. They had to replace it in less than a year.

Guess I am the anomaly here. We bought a sofa and loveseat from BL's about 12 years ago, and they have held up well. I have one dd who is now 13 and we have a dog, who is 7. He doesn't chew furniture, he just lays on it.

The couch is super comfy for naps, lol. It's in need of a good cleaning, but other than that I have been very happy with it. The loveseat and sofa have the big pillowy backrests and are green faux suade.

I have a leather love seat that we got from Big Lots and have had for over 2 years - with two small boys who jump all over and off of it - and it is holding up VERY well. We have been extremely pleased with it.

Thanks for the info! I guess I'll pass on the BL stuff. My friend is really saying I should get leather. I know it doesn't make sense to spend $500 on a cheap set only to have to replace it 2 years later, but at the same time, I don't want to spend $3000 and find a hole in the leather.

I will check and see if the stuff I can put on the leather to deter the dogs from chewing on it is safe for leather.
