My Mother in Law had a stroke on Tuesday and seemed to be doing okay, she had full motility in her legs and although she wasn't able to speak she was making sounds and was able to move at least one of her arms. At about 3pm today my brother in law phoned to say that she had taken a turn for the worse and is now on a life support machine, they mentioned a blood clot and bleeding and have said that they think there is actually nothing they can do for her other than make her comfortable.

My husband left an hour or so for the long drive down to Guildford, I hope he gets there in time to say goodbye but my kids (8 & 6) are so upset and I just feel so bad because he's on his own for the long drive.

I lost my mum 12 years ago at the age of 42 to Ovarian Cancer and my dad died of a massive heart attack 3 years ago at the age of 52 and my husband was so strong for me, my Mother in Law is 55 and I am such an emotional person that i'm not doing very well at holding it together for him!

I don't want to pick the phone up when it rings because i'm afraid of what i'll be told :sad1:

My Mother in Law passed away this morning so now it's the next step, I don't know when the funeral is but she will be cremated and scattered at a tree she used to love being around when she was little. My Father in Law is going to sell the house, too many memories.

Thank you for all your hugs and words of encouragement, i'm here alone with the children and desperately want to hug my husband but right now he is where he should be, with his Dad, brother and sister. :sad1:

Paula-Jane, I'm so sorry to hear your terrible news. :grouphug:

I'm sure when the phone does ring you will be able to handle it as you've obviously had to deal with some really tough times in the past and are probably stronger than you think. I'm emotional too and sometimes I think the fear of what might happen is actually worse than the reality - if that makes any sense? :confused3

My DH was a rock for me when my Mum died of cancer 13 years ago and again when my Father died last November. I sometimes worry that when his Mum takes a turn for the worse (she has heart problems) I won't be as brilliant for him as he was for me. His answer, "it isn't a competition, you do your thing I do mine and we're here for each other."

My very best wishes... :grouphug:

Dont know what to say apart from Im really sorry and I am thinking of you at this difficult time. :grouphug:

Thinking of you and your family :grouphug: times like this are so difficult. I lost my dad last November, and my DBF didn't know what to say or do to make things easier. Just him being there helped, when I needed a hug or to talk through how I was feeling :grouphug:

Im so sorry , not sure what to say but I just wanted to share my support.

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I'm very sorry, am sending :grouphug:

:grouphug: from me too, DH suffered a massive stroke 3 years ago at age 49 and the first days and weeks are terrifying for all involved.

I'm thinking about you all, as for being strong, I believe we get strength from somewhere unknown when we truly need it, and kids always amaze me at how they cope so much better than adults in difficult times.

Hi

I am so sorry to hear your sad news. It's never easy losing a loved one. I work in the hospital as a Aux Nurse and I see many families in these unfortunate circumstances. All I can say is dont worry about not being head strong for him. Just be there for each other and the kids. :grouphug:
