So, I find out that I have a chance to go back to a former employer (job I loved) beginning September 1 just about the time my current contract (job I loathe) is up. The catch was we had a November 6 cruise booked on Magic and it would be hard for me to take that extended time off due to the nature of the assignment. We would have to decide to cancel or move the cruise by Aug 23 to avoid a penalty. I had booked DVC nights wrapped around the cruise (one night before and two after), and I have a Dec use year, so just a couple of days left to bank the points if I was going to cancel the reservations. I take a deep breath, and....

1. I call DCL. They are able to transfer our Magic Eastern reservation (now almost completely paid off) to a Valentine's cruise to the Mexican Riviera. We hand picked our verandah midship stateroom. The fare is nearly $400 less, and we get a $350 OBC. It will be like the Love Boat! Take me to the Acapulco Lounge!

2. I call MS. We would still like to use our already purchased plane tickets to Orlando and booked nights at VWL for an extended November weekend at WDW. But we need to cancel the "night before the cruise" stay and add on one day to the weekend. We are able to get a no-view studio at AKL. We are waitlisted for the extra night at VWL. It's 3 points less, too, so we bank the extra. Hopefully, our Friday night VWL cancellation meant someone else's waitlist wish got granted.

3. I go online and rebook to a week later the outbound of our Southwest flight to Orlando. It is $16 less per ticket, so we get a credit. Now we will have a long weekend in November at WDW.

4. I think to myself, gee, it would be really neat now that we're going to be in California to try and get a night at the Grand Californian for one night either before or after the cruise. We've never stayed on Disney property in Disneyland. I figure there's little hope getting a single Saturday night in a studio. Wrong! We get to stay there the night before the cruise.

5. And...just a couple days ago, I was able to book a Treehouse for three nights in prime time June for my daughter's high school graduation and family reunion. We'll be coming off the Dream and will use the Treehouse for our "home base."

And if that weren't enough, when I looked at the cash prices for Aulani, I realized there's no way on earth we'd fork over that money (an Oceanview Grand Villa costs as much per night as many people's monthly mortgage payment.) But it doesn't matter, because at some point in time, we'll be able to stay there on DVC points, which proved way less scary than I thought they would be.

I'm feeling awfully good about my DVC membership today.

well someones been sprinkled with pixie dust!! :yay:

Congrats on all the disney magic flowing in your direction...good luck in the job transition and have fun on your trips! 2 trips are always better than one!

WOW! That is great! :woohoo: You must have truckloads of pixie dust! pixiedust: Good luck on the new job! :thumbsup2: Enjoy all of your trips!

Thanks, everybody! I couldn't sleep all last night because I was both excited about the prospect of the new job and worried about what was going to happen to our upcoming Disney trip (if we'd be able to rebook, if it would cost more money, etc.) In our economy, one can hardly afford to jeopardize a job to take a vacation, but that doesn't make cancelling a trip any less painful. I work on a contract basis, so this new job may only last a couple months, but it is still a big step up. I feel very, very pixie dusted.

I'm so happy for you! :cool1: Don't you love it when all the stars line up :goodvibes It's so nice to see positive posts on the boards too ;)
