BIG disappointment in Poly Concierge..

my entire point here was it is so easy for defenders of everything Disney (of wich i usually am included) to say the policy is law in the state and that is why it is in place in the lounge but it is not.
I feel like the OP got spoken down for an unpopular opinion that seeemed to actually offend some. The fact is if you are paying for concierge, things should not compare to your local tavern. I think the staff mamber should have walked over with the requested beverage and checked the second ID themselves this would have been concierge level service and in keeping with responsible Inn keeping. Correct me if I am wrong this EXPERIENCE people talk about is supposed to be made by exemplary service.
I really did not mean to yank anyones chain tooo hard just a little push in hopes of honest conversation.

It sounds like the concern is a guest getting two beers and then giving one to an underage drinker. Bars don't have that problem if they don't allow underage patrons in the establishment. I've been in bars, not in FL, where they put an empty shot glass next to you to signify the next drink is free (twofers).

Pool bars and even the Margarita stand by Mexico generally limit you to one drink at a time.

Sounds like a resonable policy to me.

A lot of the places I go allow all ages or 18 and up, so limiting people to one drink per ID makes a lot of sense. They use wristbands and a clear/colored cup system, but the one drink rule still seems to be the one that works the best. Saw a couple kicked out of House Of Blues a couple weeks ago for the one giving the other (wristband vs. "X" on hand in black marker) alcohol.

Most places take it VERY seriously.

One place I go to has a sign that say's "We love fake ID's. We love to confiscate them and give them to the police."

I understand the "rules" and that the concierge staff may be concerned with me or my hubby giving my 5 year old a big 'ole class of wine, but they saw us everyday for solid week. They get to know your family as far as kids, ages and stuff just because they see you 3 to 4 times daily. So, I figured by the 3rd or 4th day there shouldn't be a problem with my DH getting more than one beer at a time. It wasn't like he was asking for 3 or 4 and he by no means was intoxicated or even near it.

I saw people actually "grocery shopping" in that concierge lounge and by the end of the week I told DH I don't blame them. I would take 5 sodas, huge glass bottles of water, pastries and anything else I could carry if I had known the service would be like it was.

Don't get me wrong...Poly is still my favorite resort...there's nothing like seeing my 5 year old daughter watching those wonderful fireworks from the beach..she's hearing impaired and her hearing aids make the fireworks too loud for her to see in the park so staying lagoon view is the only way we'll go. Just not concierge again.

We when went in '02 we brought our own toaster, bread, fruit, snacks and alcohol with us...I will be doing that again for our next trip!

The problem is if they do it for you they have to do it for everyone.

And here is precisely the dilemma. WDW has no 5 star resorts, only Deluxe resorts, rated Deluxe by...WDW. The Deluxe resorts are usually given 3 to (sometimes) 4 stars by outside rating systems. I think many visitors hear Deluxe and think they will be staying at the Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons and they are nowhere near that level of service. Then when someone says "concierge"! Well some imagine being waited on hand and foot!

Exactly! I love the deluxe resorts but Disney's concierge service is nowhere near that of the Ritz or even some of the Westin/Sheraton downtown hotels in some major cities. I love to do my own planning so I don't find Disney's concierge to be worth it for our family.

Just kidding with you, but there are a lot of people on the DIS that will jump all over you for bringing and using an outside appliance (ie, toaster, microwave, crockpot, mini-fridge, etc) in a hotel room. It's almost as taboo as re-using refillable mugs and pool hopping. Me, I don't really care and I was just poking fun at you. :teeth:

Oh! :goodvibes Wasn't aware of that...but, honestly...it does help with pop-tarts and stuff! I wouldn't dare bring something that really pulls the amps like a toaster oven or something like that...!! Then DH, who is also a licensed electrician, would really spank me!

We've stayed LVC 4 times now. I agree that the extra $$ you pay for it is more than the food and drink that you get. What we like is the convenience of it all. With a family of 5, it is easy to get up in the morning, shower, and head down to the lounge for breakfast. We aren't a big breakfast family, so cereal, fruit, muffins and bagels are just right, for us. When we return to the resort in the afternoon, we enjoy the cookies, water and soda while we hang out by the pool. What I enjoy the most is the location of the bulding. In my opinion, it provides the best view in all if WDW. That stinks that the service you received from the staff was not up to par. We've been lucky in that respect. We've had some great conversations with Chef Dick, and some of the mousekeepers.

Ditto.

Our 2 Poly Concierge experiences were both similar to the
OP's. The staff at the concierge desk was very rude to us as well.

Shame things haven't improved in the 4 or 5 years since our stays. It seems like I've read the same complaints over and over.

We now stay standard Poly and couldn't love it more! :sunny:

Why would concierge staff be rude? It seems unfathomable to me considering how much guests are paying to stay there for their vacations. It's just too weird. What's so difficult about being friendly when that's the basis of your job?? I have no idea why people in a position called concierge would be surly--why bother coming to work at all?

I was so excited to go and figured the price would be well worth it...WRONG.

First off, the concierge staff was rude. I paid cash for our park hoppers when we got there and because I had two different reservations she wanted me to check back in the next day and have a park hoppers be on our room key cards...I told her I wanted to go ahead and get the park hoppers since my 5 year old daughter is going to want to hit the parks running first thing in the morning..she kept INSISTING that I do the park hopper HER way until I finally said 'GET OVER IT ALREADY". After she checked me in she handed me the lais and goes "Here"....gee, thanks for the warm hawaiian welcome.

I had arranged prior to checking in that a Mickey hat with my daugher's name on it be in the room along with a Mickey and Minnie plush...NOT IN THE ROOM. I was pissed. They said their runner was sick and couldn't get to it...it was later put in the room.

The room was clean and new and all but I thought a bit dark. And you can't turn off the exhaust fan in the bathroom and I got sick of hearing that thing run. I miss the old canopy's over the beds. The TV is nice if you don't have to turn it up loud..the sound will crack if you do. And the bathroom showerhead.....it's so low that I thought it was a Candid Camera trick! I'm 5'2 and I had trouble with it....my poor husband almost had to shower on his knees!

The concierge food offerings got old real quick. The morning was nothing more than continental and waaaay too many sweets for kids. The afternoon was the biggest let down...pretzels, nuts, gold fish and salsa and chips..not even PB & J's for the kids. Evening fare was better..at least something hot for a change but you feel like a 16 year old trying to get anything alcoholic. You have to "ask" for a beer and you can't get more than one without proof that your spouse is in the room and you're getting one for her/him..so ID of some sort is required...WHAT? I don't care if I want 6 beers at once...I'm paying $500 a night for this?? Please..

The staff was nothing special. I had grand illusions of staying CONCIERGE and there is nothing grand about it or the staff. They barely talked. One morning they had these HUGE bagels and I heard one customer ask for a small one for her daughter and the staff member got it for her..so I then asked for one for my daughter and she goes "When the big ones are all gone we'll be putting the little ones out"...I then told her that my daughter shouldn't have to wait for 20 more bagels to be eaten before she could eat something appropriate for her size. Then the small bages had no slice in them..people were pulling them apart with their fingers making a total mess of their bagels....we were all laughing about it.

I love the Poly and have stayed there many times but will never pay for concierge again...it's simply not worth it.

Complaint,Complaint,Complaint!!!! Get over it princess you're on vacation. If you were my wife, you'd be sleeping on the beach. :rotfl:

Well.... it seems paying a premium does not guarantee premium cast members.

Thinking back maybe it wasn't rudeness. Maybe it was more like indifference.

indifference

n 1: unbiased impartial unconcern 2: apathy demonstrated by an absence of emotional reactions [syn: emotionlessness, impassivity, impassiveness, phlegm, stolidity, unemotionality] 3: the trait of lacking enthusiasm for or interest in things generally [syn: apathy, spiritlessness] 4: the trait of remaining calm and seeming not to care; a casual lack of concern [syn: nonchalance, unconcern]

Yup. That's what it was.
