Big Disappointment in Navi River Journey

Wow, sorry to hear about the wait. Did you consider bailing after 90 minutes? Or maybe you felt that you'd be riding "at any time now." We did NRJ with a FP last trip and thought it was nice but nothing extraordinary.

Did you find out what caused the major increase in wait time?

When we went the first time we rope dropped NRJ and had FPs for FoP. We waited about 15-20 minutes for NRJ. I actually really liked it - I thought it was beautiful and relaxing. I'm guessing I would have felt differently if I had waited 3 hours for it, but we don't wait 3 hours for any ride at WDW.

We found it a huge disappointment. I am glad we had a fastpass. It is marked off our to-do list permanently.

I thought NRJ was just okay. It needs more...something. I mean, I like it, but I would not want to wait very long for it in it's current form. I think some additional animatronic figures would be a good start.

I also wouldn't wait in line for that ride for longer than 10-15 minutes. I felt like I had to do it once it was walk-on for us first thing in the morning. Otherwise, I don't think we would have waited. My parents warned us that it wasn't worth standing in line for.

I agree. This ride was a big “huh?” to me. Would never wait more than 20 minutes to see it.

While I wouldn't wait 3 hours for it, I love this ride. I actually ride it instead of FOP. I ride FOP if my son is with me but when I'm solo, nope. I can't keep the glasses on my head so have to have one hand on them at all times, the front of ride hits me at just the right spot on my sternum to cause my reflux to act up, which hurts. We waited about 100 min to ride FOP the second time we rode it but that might be the longest we have ever waited and we actually don't mind doing stand by for most rides and will wait 60 min. without even blinking. I love all the details in Navi and see more every time I ride it.

I like the ride a lot, but won’t wait in any line longer than 30 minutes. I usually use FP for it on one of my AK days. I do wish the ride was longer though. I think double the length would have been just about right.

On Monday, we went to Animal Kingdom with one of my big anticipations to ride Navi River Journey. Even when my husband objected to the sign that said there was a 90 minute wait, I talked him into it. 3 hours later, we finally got on the ride. About 5 minutes later, it was done, and I never felt so bad for putting my husband (and me) through 3 hours of standing on line for a ride that lasted only 5 minutes. Just wanted to warn everyone to not always believe the wait signs.
I can only imagine that a 90min wait turned into a 180min wait (3 hrs) which is double what the wait time listed could only be a ride malfunction. If the wait was 30mins and it was actually 60mins I might think the wait time listed when I entered the attraction had not been updated recently enough mixed in with the possibility of a ride malfunction. But a 90min turned into a 180min? That more sounds like a ride malfunction. If indeed it was a ride malfuction I would say I hate those too when they happen but you can't predict those. It could be 5 mins posted time and a ride malfunction occurs lengthening that time considerably.

So let me ask this question: If the wait actually had only been 90mins would you still have been just as disappointed with the ride lasting only 5 minutes?

*On a side note I only rode NRJ once but I too wished it was longer. I would have loved going on it again though.

So far the only one & done ride/attraction for me in Disney has been Tiki Room and I'm adding this ride to the list.

Ha! I was so glad when there was a trick or treat station in the Tiki House, because I was able to tell my friends that had never done it before to look around and imagine all the birds singing and talking and they were like "yeah no!" and that was that!

It's been talked about in the past. Part of it is due to the nostalgic factor of the ride and another part is how it loads. There's probably other parts to it as well.

I'm sure there's reasons for every ride. I'm just saying from my angle, that I didn't see anything overwhelming to it. Yes, the fact that you're "flying" above the scenes is different, but that's about it.

Totally get it but you commented "I don't get the 90+ wait for Peter Pan. It's nothing special and it's over really quick." So I was providing some reasons.

I have a FP for this because all the FOP ones were gone. I’m sad to hear most people don’t like it.

For those of you saying you wouldn’t wait longer than 30,60 mins etc for a ride, what are your feelings on FOP? How long would you wait for that?

I would have been surprised but not disappointed if it had truly been a 90 min wait for a 5 min show. But now I know for the future not to try again. Once was enough.
