We have been planning a surprise trip for our kids in January. We booked a one bedroom at OKW and can't wait! This trip is for my husband's birthday. Well....today he says..."It would be so nice if this january trip was just the two of us! That's what I want for my birthday! Since the kids still don't know about it they won't be disappointed if we say it's just us." So..he called his mom and asked her if she'd like to come out here and stay with the kids for a few days. She said she'd love to! They are super excited to spend the time with her and are totally ok with us going alone! They know we are taking them in the summer! So all the questions I've posted about high chairs and cribs and baby stuff go out the window! It's just the two of us! :cool1::banana::lovestruc:woohoo::cheer2:

How nice! What a very special birthday trip that will be!

Before I go on my :goodvibes ridiculous soapbox - HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3:

I think there would be less divorce if more and more people did this - I know my parents, who didn't have a ton of money, had regular alone time (adult only social life - weekends away and vacation time if they could afford it) and they are together 54 years. When I was little of course I thought, "not fair". :rotfl2: But now I think it's important and clearly see the value. Good for you.

I've seen posts on the DIS where some say "how could go without your kids?" "how could you do that to them?". I just think :confused3. EEEK I say. I feel we're too child centric these days.

Okay, I'm done.

Smart husband. :thumbsup2. Lovely MIL. :lovestruc

Enjoy, my DW and I did that in Feb of 2008. We did a three nighter at VWL in a studio and it was very nice. We just strolled around, did an attraction or two and had nice meals and enjoyed each other's company. I hope we can do it again soon!

(i just went back to find my trip report after reading your post, here it is if you want check it out)

Hi supersuperwendy,
That worked out really well. :wizard: Have a wonderful trip and :bday: to your DH. Enjoy! :thumbsup2

You have a great family - a supportive mother in law, and well adjusted kids. Have a wonderful birthday getaway!

Thanks Everyone!

Now if our kids had never been to WDW I wouldn't have the heart to go without them. But my little DVC-ers are spoiled rotten when it comes to WDW so this one's for mom and dad! Woo Hoo!

I can't wait to read your TR photobob!

You will have a great time. DH and I just did a trip in October with just the 2 of us for his birthday. It was so much fun. Our kids stayed with my MIL and had a great time. Disney is so different without the kids and equally as fun.:goodvibes

We were talking this morning about the things we wanted to do there since we won't have the kids and he goes.."Honey I SHRUNK THE AUDIENCE!". Awww he hasn't seen it in years since it scares the crap out of our kids and now it's not there! I guess we'll see Captain EO though.

I changed all our ADRs from the kids favorites to our favorites!! He LOVES the Biergarten but my kids hate it..so we booked that! Should I tell them to start chilling the beer steins now?!:rotfl2: Also the new Hacienda, Yak n Yeti and we are gonna try Sci Fi for the first time!

I can't wait to read your TR photobob!

Wendy,

It is a very brief TR with several photos.
I think what we really enjoyed was just going at our own VERY relaxed pace and doing whatever we wanted to do when we wanted to do it. We had only been during the hot months previous to that trip and really enjoyed more pleasant temperatures that February afforded. It was actually warm for that time of the year and warmer than I had planned for! It was near record temps of low 80's. I only wish that we could have stayed longer! We are less than a year from becoming emptynesters so I hope we can do some more similar trips!

I know you will have a wonderful time .
My kids were brought up in Disney now 32,28 and 19.
but we always celebrated by giving ourelves a week away from the kids each year.
it has helped us get through 36 years now of marriage .
Now the planning starts for the big kids holidays .
all those things you could not do before:dance3::dance3::dance3:

Like yours, my children have been many many times so they were totally fine when DH & I went over Labor Day alone.

IT WAS WONDERFUL!

We also stayed at OKW and really enjoyed it. We took the boat a few times (something I hate doing with 2 strollers!) and just loved being together without all the craziness of the kids.

The biggest difference I noticed was: we didn't take all these bathroom breaks!
making sure everyone goes in the room before you leave for the bus, right when you get off the bus before you go in the park, before you eat lunch, before you get in line for a ride, before you leave the park for the bus...etc.... I couldn't believe how much less I was in bathrooms!!!!!

Enjoy your getaway! It will be such fun!:goodvibes

2 times in the last 3 years DW and I have "escaped" for a long weekend without the kids to WDW (by long weekend I mean 5 days :rotfl2:).

We absolutely loved it....Stayed at BCV both times and had the most relaxing time! I agree, more "Disney Parents" should do it!

I will say that we did take our kids as well both times later on that year for a 9 day trip. If not things could have gotten ugly:rotfl2:

It is always great to get away for a few days without the kids!

We are doing a split DCL/WDW stay in December with kids.

But, we have lined up both MIL's for April so DW and I can go down for F&G at Epcot. We got BCV for 5 days!!!

It is so important for both kids and parents to have time away from each other!

Our plans for the trip go like this ... DW sleeps in! I get up early and walk around Epcot and take pics. Go back to the room about 10am and get her to start our day together.

Maybe we'll see you two there. Dh and I are doing the same thing in Jan over MLK weekend from Fri to Wed. We had a 3 night trip 2 years ago, and absolutely loved every minute of it. Others say they relax and only hit a few rides without the kids. Dh and I are total commando's without those kids sand bagging us down. :lmao:

I agree with the above soapbox. Mom and dad deserve some time alone. Happy parents=good parents.

Have a great time.

Enjoy your trip. Yahoo to your DH for his decision. My DH couldn't leave our DDs at home until they were in college and even then the first trip was harder on him than me.

Congrats! You are so very lucky!

We have never been alone since DD was born 7.5 years, and I can count on 1 hand the amount of dates we've had. Parents are both young, so they all work and are busy with their own stuff, as are siblings. Our youngest is a very active and busy 3 year old, so it takes work to watch him. LOL!

We would love to take an adult-only trip, but it's just not possible, so anytime I read about one, I am so happy for that couple. :)

Have a great trip! Tiger

My husband and I did an Adults only trip last May for our Anniversary. We took the kids for our annual fall trip in September (so mom and dad got to do two trips last year).

I just booked a family suite at ASMU for us for next fall at my husbands request he thought it would give us more space since our kids are now 10 & 9 which will be 11 & 10 next fall.

After I booked the suite and reiterated the price difference once again he asked me how much a short trip for just the two of would be during one of the free dining offers in the Spring. So in less than a minute I was online checking prices and found out if we can get a sitter for the kids and if we drop back down to a regular room it would only cost us $200 than the price difference in the suite in the fall for a 4 night /5 day trip at the beginning of March for the two of us.

Hope you have a great trip, we really enjoyed ours it is such a total different trip with out the kids.

I love to see that I'm not alone in the world of couples only trips! We just might have to make this a tradition perhaps! An alone trip every 2 years or so!

MORE CHANGES!

Since it's just the two of us we decided to skip the 1 bedroom and grab a studio somewhere instead. We are going to try to rent out the rest of the points and hopefully have enough to get our daughter a laptop for xmas! I got through to MS this morning at 11 am and moved us over to SSR with a request for a DTD view! I'm sad to let OKW go, but that's ok maybe we can stay there next year. We loved SSR last time we stayed there so we are looking forward to it! I broke our reservation into 2 segments so I can add 2 nights QSDP and 2 night DDP later on. :goodvibes
