BIG change to FP+ today

Thinking WAAAY back to when details of FP+ first started making their way out, I do recall them saying something to the effect of having to choose between headliners. I remember people being quite upset about it and the usual folks pulling a "we just don't know...it could change"

Well here we are. I suppose it could change...again.

I don't think they have to do this at MK because it has so many more big attractions, although we will see during the holidays how well it holds up. Don't be surprised if at some point they allow 4 or 5 FP+ at the MK, while Epcot stays at 3 (or is it really effectively only 2?)
They have already tested 4 FP+ at MK a lot of people liked that much better. I'm also not saying they will do this at MK and I highly doubt they will.

I swear there are people on this board who think Disney could do no wrong...ever.
oh no don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of the new system, but I'm not going to cry bloody murder until true mechanics of the system are known.

I was able to book Wishes today with a FP for 11/10. It was not available earlier. Problem is, it doesn't show up on My Itinerary or My Reservations. But, when I go in and try to "change" my FPs for that day, Wishes shows up on that screen.

But here's the difference between you and me then. I'm not going to let the fact that I can't ride Soarin' or might have to stand in a longer line for it, RUIN my vacation.

This is where this is being blown out of proportion, IMO. Does it stink that they did this? Yes it does. Does it make riding those rides harder? Yes. But it won't ruin my vacation. My vacation consists of a lot more than just being able to ride headliner rides.

You have obviously been to Disney a few times and will probably get to go back again. For a lot of people this is there 1st or 2nd time there are they may not get a chance to go for quite a few more years. They have been researching their trip for a year or more and planned it all out and every week or so Disney changes something without warning and throws people's plans out of whack.

I'm at Disney to ride rides, to me it is an amusement park. I chose a less busy time to go and planned out a FP strategy to keep us out of lines, then FP+ started rolling out. No big deal, my resort wasn't included. Then more and more resorts started to be included. I got a little worried because that would mean less FP- available for me. Then it rolled out to my resort and I was very happy to know I would get on at least a few of the headliners without a wait and since I was a lover of all things tech and love to try new things I was psyched to fiddle around with all the new stuff.

Last night I was trying to fix a problem on a friend's MDE and it went bonkers, IT had NO CLUE. She arrives tonight and the fastpasses she had for her family at Epcot for TT and Soarin are now listed for 1 person only and even after copying them to the other people, they still say just 1 person. Her family was really looking forward to that so when she gets to the rides and can't get on and gets told to go to GR, yes, it is going to mess up her vacation. Starting off with disappointment is not the way to begin a magical vacation.

And this exactly!!! LOL ;) They still haven't done away with regular FP.

Today they haven't, but yesterday we didn't expect this to be rolled out for today. My vacation starts in 12 days. I am still hopeful that I can pull FP- when that day comes and I fully expect to have an awesome time. At this point I consider pre-booking FP+ a bonus, but if they do stop FP- for those with FP+ when I get there it will take a huge amount of joy out of my vacation.

This is a brilliant move.

Now the Fastpass+ of just last week looks a lot more appealing doesn't it? ;)

All the complaints will suddenly ease up when they reinstate the initial FP+ choices.

It's like when they raise gas prices just to lower them. They are still higher than they were before, but suddenly $3.24 looks really cheap.

Anyone else having problems selecting MK attractions past 5 PM on the week of Nov 11? None of my FP+ Selections for Nov13 are displaying times past 5 PM!

I'm afraid to look and anger the FP+ gods.

Why stress now over something you have no idea how it will be working in the future????

Worry about what you can do today!!

Because my friends are leaving today, tomorrow and Sunday and I leave in 12 days. I don't care what the end result will be at this point, I care how it is going to affect MY $10,000 vacation.

No I don't think they are doing anything but testing.. But the fact of the matter is during this particular stage of the testing.. It will indeed free up FP- somewhat.

Well, not really, most people have probably already booked their November FP+s, so it won't free any up unless they take what we booked away. So their still won't be a lot of FP- available, but you might not be able to switch anything because of the new restrictions.

My family and I went to Disney once 3 years ago. We might not get back there for many more years depending on how finances and health go. I can't just say, well next time we will ride the rides, and I don't understand why people think we should. I still think it will all work out for this trip, but after watching what happened to my friend's account and FP+s, I am starting to get nervous. Lack of availability of FP- combined with disappearing FP+ would throw a damper on things for me.

I love walking around WS. But yeah, at this point, with the lack of rides and the focus on festivals to sell food and drink, it's hard to see how Epcot merits a full park admission anymore. At what point does it just become a pretty mall. It should be half of the price of MK at this point IMO.

Just out of curiosity, when you have visited Epcot in the past, how many times do you ride Soarin and Test Track each day?

Put another way, how would you fill in these blanks:

I will not enjoy visiting Epcot unless I can ride Soarin at least __ times and Test Track at least __ times.

Why didn't they realize this before they entered the 60 day window of the holiday season?
Why are their computer and phone apps wonky and erratic?

It's possible they didn't realize how much demand there would be for FP+ on those two attractions.

This really is all about Test Track and Soarin'.

Exactly. During the testing periods in 2012, the attractions at all four parks were "tiered" like this.

Adding my thanks to the OP and to Kenny the Pirate for the Heads Up. I sure won't be messing with making any changes to our Soarin and TT FP+s for our November trip... ;)

Valid point, for November. But I'm not sure how it will affect Dec.

First only 3 FP+ per park per day. Ok. Now only 1 headliner FP+ per day in Epcot. Ok. Very interested in seeing what's coming next in this testing phase because you know there are all kinds of tweaks they're going to have to do to figure this out.

:confused3

And I'm not going to threaten to cancel my trip and hate the new system until I try it. I just have to say I'm really nervous about this trip over Thanksgiving. I feel like the the whole system is going to crash due the crush of people in the parks. I have never trusted Disney IT to get it right.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a discussion board. Far be it from me if I have an opinion...

Fair enough. But if FP has never been a big part of YOUR touring plan then why should we care about what you think about the latest change? Apparently if this is the way it will be rolled out or even if it's just a test it won't effect you either way.

Hope to see ya there! I'm not going to lie and say I don't have any sort of jitters, but you know it is what it is. I'll just make the best of it. After all, in the end it just boils down to vacation time with family.

I really think they need to rethink this. Offer everyone ONE FP+ per day, with TSMM and the new mine coaster not included at all. I could see that as a value added benefit, while not messing as much with the entire pool of available FPs. Then allow people to add FP+ slots once the arrive IN the park and have used the one they had scheduled, or maybe one every 2 or 3 hours after they scan their ticket at the gate.

As a person who will not have MB for my upcoming trip, this is good news for me. Levels the playing field a bit more than those who have FP+, pull FP- with all sorts of other options (old KTTW cards, etc., etc.)

Though I realize that all this can change at any time - like Disney asking for an extra premium for people to book more FP+. Get ready, folks...because you never know! Guess they just added an extra thrill ride for everyone, without even having to step foot in the parks! ;)

And what do you do when the CM stands in front of the regular FP machine and will not let you pull one because they see your MB? 2 reports of this at AK and when they said they were told they could pull regular FP in addition to FP+ the answer was go to GR and talk to them.

This was at KS I would be pretty upset to have to push my sons wheelchair all the way back to GR???
