Big Cedar Lodge

Thanks for the replies answering my question. Doesn't look like we'd feel comfortable -- really too bad as otherwise the place sounds great.

we've been twice the last two summers, and found the points price to be just fine for our honeymoon cabin with loft. the kids love the pools and the brushy creek lazy river has me trying to figure out if it is feasible to build a small scale one on our property. we love the activities at the resort, have only ventured into branson once to ride the ducks and eat downtown. the other can't miss for us is lambert's restaurant, "home of the throwed rolls", and some great home cooking, not sure when the best time to go is, seems like there is always about an hour wait. just go north of branson about halfway to springfield, there's another one at foley, ala, just north of gulf shores. haven't made it up to the bass pro shops hq, but will try next time. and there is some great golf nearby, the only place with nicklaus and palmer facilities together in the country, a nicklaus course and palmer driving range.

we love the cabins, and the themes to them is lots of fun, last trip we stayed in the yellow ribbon cabin, tony orlando theme. the gift basket is excellent, and even though it was july, i had to turn down the ac and start a fire in the fireplace. and i wasn't the only one to do this.

customer service is as close to disney as you get, ds left his teddy bear in the room, i called to check on him, not only did hk find him, (wrapped up in sheets), they sent him back with a note, and never asked for shipping charges. i was surprised, to say the least.

haven't ever flown there, but i highly recommend the drive up from hot springs on scenic 7 through harrison, ark in the ozarks, it is beautiful in the summer and i can only imagine what it is like this time of year. can't do it again, because dw gets carsick in the hills. stop at the buffalo river and take a dip.

hope this is helpful to those planning on a stay at big cedar, we love it there.

btw this is my 200th post, a small milestone, but one nevertheless.

Would agree with the recommendation for Lambert's. NEVER go there on a Sunday. It crowds up with people driving out of town for the weekend. We usually spend three or four day weekends at Big Cedar, so we usually time a trip to Lambert's on a late Thursday afternoon around four or five. It was still full, but there wasn't much wait.

We are also bluegreen owners, not at Big Cedar. We had an extended weekend at Big Cedar Wilderness club over labor day. Wonderful! We were in a one bedroom lodge unit. Ours did have mounted deer heads and a large bass on the walls, along with several antlers. We especially enjoyed the marina and the lake in that area for our waverunners! Can't wait to go back.

For all you bluegreen owners, check your paper work... Ours says we get a one month home resort priority period, for reserving our unit.

But that only applies to your deeded week at your deed unit. (Bluegreen is a hybrid system, with both a deeded week AND points).

If you want to go at any time other than your deeded week, then "gold" and "silver" members can reserve at any Bluegreen resort at 13 and 12 months, respectively. Standard members cannot reserve at any resort, including their home resort, until 11 months out.

Glad to help. Hope you give Big Cedar a try and that you enjoy it as much as we do.

I read somewhere that the decor of Big Cedar Lodge & timeshare villas include hunter trophies (e.g., heads of deer & other animals) -- that led me to cross this resort off our "to visit" list because we are animal lovers and we cannot imagine staying in a unit with the heads of animals hanging on the walls....

Oh, that would bother me, too! Given that housekeeping says many people try to hide the mounted animals with towels, sounds like we're not the only ones.

Has anyone seen the commercial (I think it's for Expedia) where a man is researching hotels, and discovers that the lodge he plans to stay at is full of taxidermy animals? It's very funny; it shows him imagining this disasterous vacation with his kids shrieking at the sight of huge stuffed snarling bears and such. (The idea of the commercial is that Expedia gives enough information to tell what a hotel will really be like.)

I see from one of the posts here that only some of the units have animals on the walls. So, maybe I'll look into getting one of those at some point, although the animals in the lobby would still bother me.
