Big Brother Thermostat?

In a 1-bedroom or 2 - mother gets cold easily so she sleeps in the master - while I get hot easily so I sleep in the livingroom - I think it is a window problem at OKW - the most windows the cooler the room is and the better I like it. but this, for us, has been a problem since day one not a new one at all.

I have been in the studio at BCV and the temperature was fine for me - the problem we had was the entire system had a problem - way to noisey and had to be replaced.

I haven't been in a 1-bedroom at BCV so I can't comment there.

However at work, in malls or church I am not paying money to be there. I understand what you are saying here and you are right, a person cannot be comfortable 100% of the time. However, I consider the DVC to be an extension of my home. I have paid good money to be there in one form or another and I honestly feel I have a right to be comfortable in my own home.
I couldn't agree more!

Candace,
Where is this motion sensor located at BCV?

I'm not sure where it was located in all three of the rooms, but in the Master BR, everytime I walked past the foot of the bed to (walk towards the patio door), I would hear a click. I finally figured out it was the motion detector and it was up on the wall (the wall between the Master BR and the jacuzzi) almost to the ceiling.

. There was some kind of outlet thing (but not an electrical plug-in) over the refrigerator, and someone had put masking tape across it. You could see open line-spaces under the tape. This wasn't a sensor, was it?

That was a Smoke Alarm sensor

Hmmm, I might have been one of the "negative" posts, although, that was not my intent. I posted that when we stayed at BCV in December we would turn the heat up at night because we were chilled in the morning when we got out of bed................. In the meantime, if someone wants to take that as a negative post, so be it. It was actually a reality to us.

cgcw,

I just wanted to be clear that I don't consider bringing up opinions or complaints about DVC stays to be "negative posts". The only point I was trying to make, was some people read about the issues that are aired here, and get themselves worried before they ever step foot on WDW property as a DVC owner.

My suggestion was not to stop the "negative posts". The suggestion was to not worry too much about them.

My apologies if you took my comments to be a "negative post" itself!

Granny,

No need to apologize. It was a reality that back in December I posted that we did have a problem with the temperature of our unit at BCV. I think for the most part, all members on these boards have the best intentions. There will always be people who find things to complain about. There will always be people who worry about everything. That's just a part of life. And, maybe my reply came on a little strong.

As a recent transplant from West Allis, WI to Florida be reassured that what is cold for you in in Wisconsin (boy do we miss the snow), folks in Florida cannot even imagine. We have been there since the motion detecters were installed, and we were fine. Don't worry be happy, it was in the 70's today, I guess our 2 weeks of winter are over, and my students can stop complaining how cold it is when it hits 40.

What is wrong with a negative post? If one feels that they had a bad experience with something they should voice it. Negative posts are as misleading as positive ones; depends on which side of the fence you are on.

I encourage people to post both good and bad regardless of the overall bias of the forum. Hearing both sides is the only way to attempt to arrive at the truth.

Hope this does not spark any flames as I am leaving to VWL in about 2 hours and won't be able to respond...

Some people prefer colder environments, some prefer hotter ones. For myself I want the temperature to tend towards whatever the weather is outside...so if its 90 I want the room to be warmer and if its 30 colder. That way the adjustment is smaller when I leave the room. This also means I tend to prefer that the room is cooler in the morning.

So given that each individual is different I think it would be difficult for Disney to perfect the room temperatures...it would be impossible to make it "just like home". For starters I suspect the majority of DVC owners live in single family homes where the temperature isn't influenced by adjacent rooms (on four to six sides). I think on this one you really have to accept that the unit isn't going to be quite just as you like but will be very close.

However at home, I have a normal thermostat that stays set at exactly where I put it. It doesn't override my adjustment just because it doesn't sense I am moving. I expect the same when I am staying in my "2nd home." I have lived in single family, as well as multifamily homes and have stayed in numerous hotels around the USA. I have never had trouble keeping the temperature where I wanted it. There may be fluctuations of a degree as the system adjust, but not what I experienced at OKW where it was unbearably hot until I woke up and moved around.

I agree with what sgtdisney has already well said.
One of the pleasures of a deluxe accomodation--a "home away from home" should be to be able to set your own comfort/temperature level.

Agreed. Certainly the tempurature should remain comfortable at night while sleeping. At minumum, the electronic sensors that are currently being installed need to be fitted with timers so that movement is not required during the night to keep the room at a comfortable setting. I understand the desire to keep costs down by not wasting energy cooling an unoccupied room, the system needs to be improved in order to remain comfortable when occupied.

Exactly!! You put it better than I did.
But I'm pretty sure it won't happen.
Guess I'll need a 2:30 AM "wake-up" call so I can get out of bed and get the temperature to cool down:D

I have said many times before over the years here that there are many people that do want anything to be posted that is negative. We have seen the type of comments from one person that is an attempt to stop the negative posts. There are many negative things about DVC that must be heard regardless of some that want in their own way to put down those that post negative. The fact of the matter is that these negative posts are far more informative than than the ones who run around thinking that DVC is nothing short of heaven on earth. I make no apologizes to anyone that this may offend. In fact I hope this wakes those who have their heads in the clouds that there is plenty wrong with DVC that could improve and should change. I have always been troubled by those that use these tactics. At any rate the thermostats at BC are way out of line in my opinion and should be replace with no motion sensors.
