BIG Blisters & Not Much Disney (Sadly!)

WOW! Two big news items! Congratulations on the pregnancy! That is very exciting and I'm very happy for you! :cloud9:

And heading back to the world in November??? :cool1: We went last year in Nov., you may remember from my trippie. But we went later in the month... the last week actually. LOVE the crowd levels! One thing you may want to check is when Soap Weekend is at MGM... oh, alright, HS. I think it may be that first weekend you'll be there. That draws a big crowd!

That's so exciting! Another trip! Yay!

Thank you - I can't wait! I think we will be there before you so you can make me jealous when I am home and you are just about to go!!!

Thanks very much - I'm so excited too. This little bean does feel different. I am feeling way more pregnancy symptoms and we just have a feeling he/she is going to hang on.

We checked our the Super Soap Weekend and its on the Saturday / Sunday we arrive. I posted about it in another thread and some responses indicated that we should be ok so long as we avoid HS. So we've set our plans to visit the other parks on those days! Plus as we arrived on Saturday late afternoon, we will probably take the rest of that day and Sunday pretty easy...

Good plan! :thumbsup2

Glad to hear all is well with the little bean. A trip in November, I am jealous. I am so happy for you. I hope your mom has a better trip this time. Thanks for clearing up the confusion about the Yorkie. That DH of yours is a meanie, not giving you any. I agree the Flake is good, I really like the Club mint wafers. Can't wait for the next part of your TR. ;)

Thank you so much! Mum is really excited too - I am sure she will be fine as long as she keeps her feet out of the sun!!!

I've not had a club mint in ages! I love any minty chocolate - its so tasty. During our July trip we found some minty M&Ms, they were heaven!!!

Just a quick update from me!

We are booked for our November trip!!! The plans changed slightly and we're now flying into Orlando International (it was going to be Sanford) which I think is FAB myself! We've also got an extra day!!! I don't know what we'll do with it, probably another MK or AK day (our fave parks!). Lastly, I booked tickets for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party!!! Its for 16 Nov, the day after we arrive. I've told Mum the tickets were sold out so I can surprise her on her birthday this week!!!

I'm so excited!!!

.

Its pretty much decided, we just need to take the plunge and book. I think we're going to fly on 15 Nov, for 7-nights and stay at the AKL again. Mum thinks we should forgoe the Savannah View this time as we're unlikely to see any new varieties of animals compared to our stay in June / July.

I can't believe it! I might be going to Disney again in 90days or so time!!!!! I'm a bit nervous about the pregnancy part of it, but at least it won't be scorching hot and my Mum loves taking things easy anyway so we don't need to do any of the 'commando' style park touring (well maybe we'll make an exception for Toy Story Mania!).

Keep everything crossed that things go to plan and we will be booked to go very soon! I will start a new pre-trip report too I think!

xxx

We'll just miss each other. We're arriving on the 25th and staying until the 30th. We're having Thanksgiving Day dinner with Chef Mickey himself. Not a bad day, I'd say.

I hope it does work out for you to take this trip. It would be fun to have some special time with your mom. I love it when Jill, Brooklynn, and I go and do our girl trips!

Thanks! We have booked!!! My Dad made the booking for us yesterday as my Mum and I were messing around and couldn't decide (she is nervous about taking a pregnant daughter and I am nervous about going pregnant without my hubby!). We had already lost one set of flights so he took the plunge for us and booked our holiday!

We arrive on 15 Nov, quite late, so I am thinking about booking us a town-car as we don't want to have to wait ages and ages for ME... but then I don't know enough about it so need to have a look online!

I have already booked us tickets for MVMCP on 16 Nov too!

But the best news is, we have an extra day so I need to look at our planned schedule, check theme park opening hours etc. and try and work out what we should do!

I'm so excited!!!

We all woke up really early today - I think with the exception of my Dad who can sleep and sleep and sleep - we had all woken up by 5am. That’s what happens with a 5hr time difference! Hubby was dead excited to wake up on his first morning in Florida. He got his swimmers on straight away and jumped into the pool. Mum and I made a cup of tea (so very English! … and we had even brought our own UK tea-bags!!!) and set the breakfast things out. We had cereal, bagels, cheeses, hams and jams with bread.

Last night we had agreed to take it easy and not rush to get out today but as we were all up so early, we were all showered, dressed and ready to go by about 8.15am. We left the villa and started our first journey to DISNEY!!! We were off to the Magic Kingdom today - yay!!!

We arrived into the car park and parked in Pluto, which I think is fairly close to the front! We hopped on the tram and went over to the T&TC. We had to buy tickets before we went across to the park. Although the UK have good deals with tickets, we would not have got full use out of what they offer, so we opted for the ‘Magic Your Way’ tickets. We chose the 6-day park tickets and added on park hoppers (which we didn’t end up using!).

We decided to take the ferry across to the Magic Kingdom as there was one there waiting, nearly ready to depart, and the monorail station looked very busy!

By the time we arrived at the park gates, it was about 9.30am.

Then it was time… time for our first glimpse of MAIN STREET!!!

We decided our first port of call should be SPLASH MOUNTAIN! As it was warm, we thought it would be a good idea to dry off over the course of the morning. Mum didn’t want to come on it, she didn’t like the idea of the very big drop. I have to admit, this was actually my first ever ride on Splash Mountain. I am not good with big drops and have always declined it until now, but this time I really wanted to go on it. We waited for about 15mins and then it was our turn. I really enjoyed the ride, it was so much longer than I expected and the drop was not as bad as it looks!!!

After a brief toilet break, we decided to go on Big Thunder Mountain - one of my Mum’s favourites!

066.jpg

068.jpg

I think we ended up waiting for about a 35-mins but it was worth it, we do love this ride, it’s a classic!

We then walked back towards Adventureland and got fastpasses for Jungle Cruise, the return slot gave us enough time to ride Pirates of the Caribbean and have lunch so that is what we did!

We waited about 20-mins for Pirates, I was surprised - the longest I have waited for it has only been about 10-mins! I love this ride so so much, it’s really one of my favourites (I know I probably say that for all of the rides!!!). I enjoyed seeing the additions of Captain Jack Sparrow, I love him (don’t we all!) and so it was really fun seeing him on the ride!

It was then time for lunch and I suggested we had a look at El Pirata Y el Perico Restaurante and also Pecos Bills. On looking at the menu for El Pirata Y el Perico Restaurante I didn’t fancy anything so we went around the corner to Pecos Bills. On the way we ran into this…

069.jpg

070.jpg

Back to Pecos Bills... the Worms and hubby were impressed with the menu and could not decide! Dad and I went for the Pulled Pork Sandwich, Mum went for a Cheeseburger and Hubby went for the Chicken Wrap. Of course we made full use of the Fixins’ bar - it was great!!!

FOOD PORN!!!

I’m quite a nosy person and couldn’t help noticing a couple on the table next to us arguing for their entire meal… she ended up walking away!!!

After lunch, it was time to use our fastpasses for Jungle Cruise...

We love Jungle Cruise... some piccies for you!

I think our ‘captain’ might have been new? She seemed quiet and didn’t make us laugh as much as we have done before!

After Jungle Cruise we headed over to Tomorrowland. We all needed a bit of a rest and what better ride for that than the TTA!!!

The worms on their way up to the ride...

094.jpg

It’s so nice and relaxing isn’t it. I think we rode it 4 times in total during our MK visits!

Next hubby and I said we wanted to ride Space Mountain!!! But of course when we got there, we were disappointed to see it was down and the CMs had no idea when it would be up again  We had already split up from the Worms, they had gone to do a spot of shopping and also get us fastpasses to ride Buzz Lightyear. I tried ringing Mum to tell her that we couldn’t get on Space Mountain but she wasn’t answering (later I found out it was because they were in COP!). Hubby and I went back on the TTA and we got stuck on it for about 15-mins. Right before you go into Space Mountain, it was pitch black!!! We also had the joy of a young boy who thought it would be amusing and fun to spend the entire ride screaming and squealing. Yes the entire ride!!! We just moved in time to see a bit of Space Mountain with the lights on, but I didn’t move fast enough with the camera so no piccies!!!

We then had another look at SM but it was still down so we decided to go and ride COP. Just as we were entering the queue, we saw the Worms coming out! We told them about SM and agreed to meet them later at Buzz Lightyear, just in time for our fastpass slot. I hadn’t been on COP on years so it was good fun to see it again. Would you believe this turned out to be my husband’s favourite ride of the trip? Not the rollercoasters, not the water rides - yes he LOVED COP!!! He was singing the song for days and days… bless him!!!

After we got off COP, Space Mountain looked like it was back up and running so we got in the queue. We quickly got to a point very close to the front and hundreds and hundreds of fastpass holders arrived in their queue. I think they were delayed from the breakdown earlier but also people in the queue when it went down also got fastpasses. We ended up waiting for about 45-mins in the end because the CMs let so many fastpass people through. They were probably letting 2 stand-by people through for everyone 20 fastpass people!

Me in the queue for SM...

096.jpg

Anyway, eventually it was our turn to ride! We do love Space Mountain but it was a lot rougher than I remember from 4-yrs ago. I know it’s getting old but it was so rough, I felt like I was being flung everywhere!!!

I think it was around 3.30pm now and we finally met up with Mum and Victor at Buzz Lightyear. My husband is EXTREMELY competitive and he was really really excited about Buzz. He did well, he thrashed us all, but I can’t remember his score!!! I hate that he takes control of the spinning too, just as I am about to hit a target, I get flung around in the opposite direction!

It was now getting close to our ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern so we wandered over to Liberty Square. The queue for the Haunted Mansion was 60-mins so we decided to watch the Hall of Presidents. This is Victor’s favourite, he really enjoys it! We were lucky that a show was just about to start so we went in after only a 2-3min wait.

After watching Hall of Presidents we went into a couple of shops before making our way over to LTT. We were seated pretty much immediately and met at our table by our server called Karen (she is probably the only servers name I will remember as my sister is called Karen, sorry!). We ordered drinks first… Mum got a coke, Dad and Rich got a Root Beer each and I got the special slushie fruit punch type drink (can’t remember what it was called sorry!). It was lovely!!!

We really enjoyed the meal, the salad came first - the dressing was lovely and it was covered in red onion which we all love! Next it was the main course… it was served family style and we had turkey, beef and ham; mashed potatoes, green beans, something else which I forget and gravy! It was delicious! Finally it was dessert but we were all so stuffed we barely ate any… it was apple and cinnamon cobbler with custard (I think!). During the meal, all of the characters came over… we were visited by Chip and Dale; Goofy; Minnie Mouse and possibly Pluto or Donald (I can’t remember). They were all so much fun and gave us as much special attention as they did with the families with children, we loved it!

Pics with the characters...

After eating and another bathroom break, we decided that we would ride the Haunted Mansion and then head home. The weather wasn’t looking great and we were beginning to get very tired from jet lag effects. We waited about 30-mins for the HM and I couldn’t wait to ride after the new additions!

121.jpg

Waiting for the HM ride...

122.jpg

123.jpg

I think I spotted 1-2 of the changes but later in our trip I found out what they all were!

When we had finished at the HM, we slowly made our way back to the front of the park. I couldn’t resist and stopped to buy a Mickey Ears balloon (for $10 - ouch!).

125.jpg

126.jpg

We didn’t have to wait very long for the monorail and it wasn’t very busy so we arrived back at the TTC fairly quickly. After hopping on a tram, we finally found our car. It was VERY hot in there!!! But thankfully our AC worked a treat!

We managed to get home easily, we didn’t get lost and it was a very straight-forward route. As soon as we got home, we all got in our swimmers and had a dip in the pool and spa to relax. Dad tried to get some ice with his drink... as you can see he was having some trouble!!!

129.jpg

After snacking on a few crisps and cookies, we eventually went to bed at around 10.30pm!

Next up, we go to *whispers* Universal Studios!!!

Looks like you had a great first day! I love the MK... I wish I could live there. *sigh*

:santa: As for MVMCP~ :yay: I'm glad you are going to go! We loved it last year! As I had hoped, it truly was the highlight of our trip!:santa:

Me too! in November we are going to try and spend at least 2 full days there, although we probably won't need too as there are quite a few 'big queue rides' that we won't be going on so might save us some time!

I can't wait for MVMCP - Mum will be really excited when I give her our tickets! I'm having them posted internationally and they were shipped yesterday!

Great pics of MK, I love your mickey balloon. I have never eaten at Liberty Tree before, maybe next trip it looks good. I don't mind the large pics. So glad to hear you got tickets to the MVMCP. Your Mum will be thrilled. :santa: I look forward to seeing pics of the decorations. (I love mint chocolate too.) :lovestruc

Sounds like you had an excellent first day at MK!

All of the food sounds delicious...especially Liberty Tree Tavern. It looks like you had great character interactions there too!

I lied - today is not Universal Studios!!! That’s tomorrow! Today is our first ‘easy’ day, we went to Gatorland; had a relaxing few hours by the pool back at the villa and then hubby and I went to meet our friends for dinner at the Grand Floridian…

We woke up again fairly early this morning - I think it was going to take a couple of mornings to get used to the time difference! Hubby and Dad got straight in the pool again for their morning dip whilst Mum prepared breakfast. I just relaxed!

After breakfast we all got ready and left the villa round 9.30am. We got on the road and headed for one of our favourite roads - the Orange Blossom Trail! Not sure why it’s a favourite… I think possibly because on our first Disney trip ever, we stayed at a villa just off the OBT and it always felt like ‘home’ after a long tiring day at the parks! We found Gatorland really easily and parked up. It had only just opened so we were in good time to make the most of our day.

We bought our tickets and were told if we moved quickly, we would make it in time to see the first show. Hubby and Dad paid an additional $10 which meant they got certain other perks, one of which included the opportunity to sit on a Gator (pics later)

Side Note: I’m really sorry if anyone is offended by the pictures from Gatorland as I know people have personal views on these sorts of things (animals detained in Zoo’s etc.). If they upset anyone, I will remove them, please just let me know.

We made our way to the first show, but stopped briefly on the way to take a few piccies…

135.jpg

The first show we saw was ‘Upclose Encounters’ where the two chaps doing the show got out amazing, sometimes very scary and deadly, creatures! Audience participation was required so I kept my eyes firmly to myself to avoid any eye contact!!! Bugs, insects and creatures do not go down well with me!

A few piccies from the show…

At the end, we had the opportunity to pay an additional $5 for a photograph with either a big lizard (which sort of looked like a baby croc) or with a snake. Hubby went for the snake picture, and in a big brave move for me, I had a picture with the lizard… on looking back, I wish I had had my picture taken with the snake!

152.jpg

153.jpg

After this show, we made our way to the next show which was the Gator Wrestling show and where my hubby and Dad would be able to have their picture taken with a croc. (Again if the following piccies offend, please tell me as I don’t mind removing them).

On the way, we stopped and took these piccies…

154.jpg

155.jpg

So back to the wrestling show…

The croc man (not really sure what else to call him!) chose a gorgeous little lad from the audience to help him choose a croc to wrestle with during the show. The little boy (he was 6yrs I think, but very tiny and shy!) walked around the ‘ring’ for ages and I think the croc man was getting pressed for time so had to get his Grandma to help! The little boy eventually picked a croc (Gator!) but the croc man had to pick a different one as the one the boy chose looked a bit feisty!!!

At this point, the croc man tied up the Gator’s mouth with tape, for obvious safety reasons, but I even found this a little sad to watch and unfair on the croc.

Hubby and Dad and their croc pictures…

162.jpg

163.jpg

After they returned to their seats my Dad decided to put his ‘croc smelling’ hands on Mum’s face (eeeeeew I know!!!). Needless to say, Mum was NOT happy!!!

The final show was some sort of Gator feeding. There were two men ‘competing’ against each other (the men from the Upclose Encounters show) and then the other man from the wrestling show was in charge of the show! They basically had pieces of food (I think it was raw chicken) and had to get their crocs to eat it all first. They swung it over the water hole and the crocs had to jump for their food. Again, personally I found this a bit sad to watch…

Here are some piccies…

I’m not sure how many of you have ever been, but Gatorland is very small and we had done pretty much all of it by 11.15am having only been there just over an hour.

We decided to go on the little train ride around the park which was fun and nice to get a bit of a rest! But there wasn’t really anything exciting to see.

195.jpg

196.jpg

197.jpg

198.jpg

There was only one thing left to see which my Dad wanted to look at (Salt Water Crocodiles), but it was getting hot and we were getting a bit hungry and thirsty so all decided that we would call it a day at Gatorland.

We took a few final shots on our way out…

200.jpg

202.jpg

203.jpg

205.jpg

In the gift shop, Mum bought my nephew a cute little tee-shirt and Hubby and I bought his Dad some Alligator meat with delicious sounding flavourings. We aren’t sure whether it was real or not, but when we got home we found out that you can’t bring things like that home! Good job we didn’t get stopped at customs!!! I also bought a Gatorland pin and decided I would collect a pin from each place we visited!

207.jpg

I knew there was a Wall Mart Super Centre on the 192 which was sort of on our way home, so we decided to stop off, get a few bits for lunch and Dad and I wanted to buy some the cheap disposable mobile phones so we could keep in touch easily during the trip. The Wall Mart was HUGE! I loved it!!! I could have shopped in there for hours and hours… Hubby and Mum went off to buy the food related shopping and Dad and I went off to buy a mobile phone.

We met up at the check out and this is where a little nightmare began… Mum asked the cashier if they accepted travellers’ cheques. She said they did and watched as my Mum signed and dated them and handed them over. Then the cashier realised that the cheques my Mum had were a specific variety that they couldn’t accept. She asked my Mum for another form of payment. However, when you sign and date a travellers cheque for the second time at a store / restaurant - you basically ‘spend’ the money and if they are signed outside the presence of your cashier / server, they are worthless because they could be forged (I think that is right!). So if the Wall Mart wouldn’t accept them, my Mum would have lost $150. The manager was called and she said again they wouldn’t accept them and they would need an alternative method of payment. My Mum reiterated that the cashier said she would accept the cheques and now they were worthless to my Mum unless spent in here. At this point I was getting worried about the outcome (I worry and panic WAY too much over small stuff) so I was really naughty and told my hubby to go and pack the shopping in the car and hide! He had already moved the trolley to the exit doors and was just hanging around waiting for the rest of us. The cashier had gone back to serving other people and hadn’t realised he had moved. I know, it was silly of me to suggest it! Anyway, it eventually got sorted and Mum and Dad met us back at the car.

We arrived back at the villa a bit later than we had hoped and we were all starving!!! We had another hot chicken (we love them) along with salad, cheeses, bread and crisps etc. It was a tasty lunch!

For the rest of the afternoon we relaxed! The boys spent most of the afternoon in the pool, Mum went for a power nap, and I had a small power nap and watched a bit of TV and then got in the pool later.

At around 4pm, I said to hubby we better get ready for our evening. We were off to meet some friends at the Grand Floridian for dinner!

Fiona is a girl I work with, we don’t chat very much in the office as she is always super busy, but on social outings and meetings when we’ve had a break, we’ve chatted loads and loads. One of those times we found out that we would be in Florida at the same time (well a 3-day overlap, they were leaving soon after we arrived) and so we suggested meeting up for dinner! As our hubby’s had not met, we arranged a few nights out together in advance of our trips to Orlando, so the boys could get to know each other. They were fine and we all got on like a house on fire!

We left the villa about 5.15pm so hubby and I could spend a bit of time at the GF before meeting them in the bar (I think it’s called Mizners?) at 7pm. We arrived at the hotel entrance and it was pouring down with rain so we left the car with the valet people and made our way inside…

WOW, what an AMAZING resort!!! Anyone who gets to stay here is SO SO lucky!!! We were just blown away and loved it loads! Hubby agreed to save up and bring me back here with our own kids in 4-5 years time for 3 whole weeks!

208.jpg

211.jpg

I really want to do the resort monorail loop so we headed up to the monorail building and just checked with the CM there that we were allowed to do this. The monorail was fairly quiet and for most of the journey we had the little carriage to ourselves. It was fun and we took quite a few piccies but as it was raining, many of them didn’t come out too well. We stopped at the Contemporary and then the Polynesian and after about 25-mins ish, I think, we made it back to the GF.

A few piccies…

215.jpg

220.jpg

221.jpg

We still had about 45-mins to kill before it was time to meet Fiona and Andy so we wandered around the shops. I loved the bath / body shop (what is the name of it!!!) and got a few things from there. We also found me a little GF pin to keep as a memory of our visit there. We wandered up to the higher floors in the main lobby building and took a few more piccies…

225.jpg

226.jpg

228.jpg

229.jpg

At around 6.50pm we headed down to the bar and thought we’d get a table and a drink before Fiona and Andy arrived. They were already there - they’d had the same idea!!! Fiona and I got cocktails and the boys got beers. I had the blue glowtini drink (what is the name of it!!!) and kept the ice cube (we got two on the holiday in total!).

Our ADR was for around 7.30pm-7.45pm (we never knew exactly as Fiona’s MIL had kindly taken care of the ADR for us!) and we only waited a few minutes before being taken to our table at Narcoosee’s… we were sat by the waters edge, it was a perfect table.

232.jpg

For our starters, I had the calamari as did Fiona and Andy (must be a firm favourite!) and hubby had…??? I can’t remember!!!

Side Note: Do you think this baby is affecting my memory???!!!

For our main course, Fiona and I both had the scallop risotto, I think mixed with corn and cheese. It was DELICIOUS! Andy had some chicken and my hubby had the lamb.

230.jpg

231.jpg

Just as we were beginning our main courses, the water electrical pageant started so my hubby nipped out and took a few piccies…

233.jpg

234.jpg

235.jpg

Fiona and Andy were on the DDP and said they had loads of snack credits left. They kindly offered to buy us each an ice cream using their snack credits! (From Gasparillas??? I think!) We agreed that Andy would go and get them and we could eat them outside on the balcony of Narcoosee’s whilst watching Wishes!

Before that though, we had a visit from Andy’s younger brother (he knew we were eating there)… apparantely Andy loves sour sweeties and he had found some in Goofy’s Candy Co. that are REALLY sour. Of course we all had to try one… no sooner had it hit my mouth I totally freaked out and spat it back out!!! Gross I know!!! It rolled across the table and landed in front of Fiona. I felt so guilty!!! (I do have a piccie of that but its too gross to share!!!)

We had such a laugh about that, a highlight of the night! I will be keeping my eyes open for more sour sweeties in our Nov trip to bring back for Andy!

It was now just before 10pm and Wishes was due to start… Andy ran off to get us the ice creams. He had Vanilla, Fiona and hubby had Chocolate and I had something that apparantely, at the GF, they call “Squirrel”!!! It was chocolate chip and I have no idea where the squirrel part came from… unless it was a family joke!!! The ice cream was delicious and we all stood and watched Wishes, it was lovely, we could even hear the narrative / music!!! Hubby got some fantastic piccies…

After Wishes, we were going to head back to the bar for another drink before hubby and I went back to the villa. BUT, I was in a cheeky mood (after a few drinks!) and after pointing out there room building to us, I asked Fiona and Andy if they would let me have a sneaky peek of their room!!! I think they were in Boca Chica. They had a ground floor, pool view room. The room was GORGEOUS! Very spacious, decorated SO lovely and just well, really really lovely! I was SO jealous they were staying there and hubby’s promise of bringing me and our family back was definitely sealed after seeing the rooms!!!

We then headed back inside to Mizner’s lounge again and had a few more cocktails and beers. As always happens whenever we see Fiona and Andy, we talk so much and are having such a fantastic time, that the minutes and hours just fly past… before we knew it, it was nearing Midnight! They were heading home the next day (it was a nice feeling that we were literally just starting our holiday!!!) and needed to finish packing a few things early in the morning so we said our goodbyes, hubby and I collected the car from valet parking and off we went back to the villa.

As predicted, we got home and the worms were in bed asleep! We grabbed a quick drink each and went straight to bed. We had an exciting day ahead of us at Universal Studios!!!

The Mickey balloon is cute isn't he? I have got one on our last two trips and set it off in the air with a note attached from me. This time we set out purple Mickey balloon off in memory of the little baby we lost

Sounds like you had an excellent first day at MK!

All of the food sounds delicious...especially Liberty Tree Tavern. It looks like you had great character interactions there too!

The characters were great, I was so pleased they spent as much time with us as we wanted, I suppose I thought they would pay more attention to kids!!!
